Tena koutou katoa, and welcome to Te Karere. The Labour Party's deputy leader says they will step up in the fight to legalise medical marijuana and champion drug reform. This follows one of parliament's leading drug reformers, Peter Dunne's announcement that he'll quit politics while the Greens are dwindling in the polls. Political reporter Eruera Rerekura has this story. It's a hazy situation surrounding drug laws. Since Peter Dunne's resignation announcement - who will champion this cause? Kelvin Davis says it's time to change the law. The Maori Party shares those same thoughts. The NZ Drug Foundation says parties such as the Maori Party understand this issue. Ms Fox says P has been the real evil in all communities. In the end there is only one party that still fully supports drug law reform. Eruera Rerekura, Te Karere. Labour launched their new television ad campaign today after their surprise leader change mid-campaign three weeks ago, The party may hold six of the seven Maori seats, but you'd be forgiven for thinking they had no Maori caucus at all as they don't seem to feature in the new ad campaign. Hania Douglas reports. Let's do this. But it seems "let's" doesn't include everyone because Maori don't seem to feature. Even co-leader Kelvin Davis didn't get a look in. You might catch Meka Whaitiri for a second if you are quick enough, but the focus is obviously the new leader, Jacinda Ardern as they hope to win this race. Ardern says the omission is due to a separate ad campaign for the Maori caucus. But with the elections racing towards us, there's a danger of them running out of time to win the Maori voters. Hania Douglas, Te Karere. Rescuers remain determined in their search to bring home two men missing in the Tongariro National Park. It's now been ten days since Vincent Taurima and Hakopa Ngaronoa went missing, after they entered the bush to escape police after allegedly stealing a vehicle. An area between Tree Trunk Gorge Road and the Pillars of Hercules is being searched. A police dog re-joined in the search yesterday Police are urging business owners from East Cape. Down to Southern Hawkes Bay to be wary and report any suspicious activity. If shop owners or consumers knowingly purchase stolen avocados, they could be charged. After the break, Kapa haka personality Kingi Kiriona has been named as a finalist at one of New Zealand's most prestigious song writing awards. The plight of homelessness continues to be a major issue for the Tamaki Makaurau electorate. The finalist for New Zealand's most prestigious song writers awards have been named, with kapa haka expert Kingi Kiriona receiving a Silver Scroll nomination for his haka and waiata fusion Te Atua Whiowhio performed by his haka team, Te Iti Kahurangi. Te Okiwa McLean has more. All aboard! Last call! I, we, we're all feeling humbled by this nomination. Te Iti Kahurangi's song, He Atua Whiowhio, has been listed as a finalist for the Maioha Award at the 2017 Apra Silver Scrolls Awards. The song focuses on the prophet Te Kooti Arikirangi when he was hiding from authorities in Te Nehenehenui. This is about a prophetic vision he had. He saw a strange being that whistled. It entered the door of a house, and it went out the back of the house. Not long after the vision Crown officers arrived to plan with Ngati Maniapoto how they would go about constructing a railway with a line that would run through Te Kuiti. That was the strange whistling being Te Kooti prophesied about - he prophesied about trains. This song was launched last year as part of the 'He Kura Kainga - A Treasured Home' album. However, this song started life as a whakaeke. And from there became a hip hop music track. So Jeremy Male played around with the haka. As a result it became a hip hop haka. So this was trying, but it's an honour that we have had this happen and it's a recognition of our willingness to remix that haka with influences from modern music. And his words of encouragement to the world of haka. We know the potential of haka. So you are right, we need to encourage kapa to release their songs and haka. However, we need to encourage radio stations more to play our songs and our haka because they are popular. The APRA Silver Scrolls awards is in September here in Auckland. But who will win? Who knows? Te Okiwa McLean, Te Karere. A new report by KPMG and ASB Bank has compiled the stories of Maori businesses with a focus on leadership and entrepreneurship. The All Blacks name their team for Saturday's game on Thursday morning. There's no doubt the Black Ferns are confident heading into their world cup semi-final against the US tomorrow morning. Training in Belfast today ahead of their must win match there's been a certain focus in the forwards to make improvements on their 29-21 loss to England in June. It is sure to be one of the most hotly contested come election day as incumbent Peeni Henare of Labour takes on the Maori Party's Shane Taurima. But what of the people and the issues of the electorate? Our reporter Ripeka Timutimu found out how mean the streets of South Auckland can be. Tamaki Makaurau. From its sparkling waters in the Waitemata, to its million dollar homes. It is the electorate desired by many. But for many life isn't so glamourous. Full tummies and warm bodies. That's Debbie Munroe's goal for the homeless. There are now 24,000 that are homeless in Tamaki Makaurau. There are now 24,000 that are homeless in Tamaki Makaurau.
