Tena koutou katoa, and welcome to Te Karere. A big weekend for Tuhoe in the Waimana Valley as Te Hui Ahurei a Tuhoe took place, with people from all over the country who have ties to the iwi taking the stage on Saturday ` a time for challenges to be laid, and a chance to share ideas about the future of the event. Timoti Tiakiwai has more. We're unable to provide subtitles. The whanau of Taharora Marae in Waipiro Bay are still uncovering damage caused by the heavy rain that came with the cyclones two years ago. While they've received insurance money for repairs, they say it doesn't cover the full cost of restoring themarae to its former state. They acknowledge they can't control the weather, but believe the Gisborne District Council has a responsibility to fix the road above the marae to stop water from rushing down and causing further damage. Irena Smith has this story. We're unable to provide subtitles. Aucklanders were taken by surprise over the weekend as thunderstorms and heavy rain wreaked havoc across the region. There were around 750 lightning strikes across the city from Friday night through to the following morning. This, combined with torrential rain, caused flooding in some areas and left around 20,000 customers without power. This comes after a particularly rough week of weather for the upper North Island, with Northland still dealing with the aftermath of ex-Cyclone Tam. MetService says it will review its response to see whether more could have been done, after warnings were only issued once the storm had already hit. They're one of the longest-standing kapa haka ropu at Hui Aranga ` a Catholic Easter gathering rich in faith, culture, and competition. For the Ruapehu Maori Catholic Club, this kaupapa isn't just about the stage ` it's about whakapapa, whanau, and wairua.
