Child poverty advocates say the Government is contributing to the growing number of Kiwis struggling to afford food. TVNZ has obtained data under the Official Information Act showing around 85,000 food grants were declined in 2024, rising to 88,000 last year. Most applications are still approved, with around 130 million dollars paid out, but advocates are questioning why more people are being turned away.
