1The final election result has been announced. National lost a seat and leader Don Brash formally conceded to Helen Clark who now will attempt to form a Government. The Greens failed to return Nandor Tanczos to Parliament and a rise in the party vote for The Maori Party saw Parliament's overhand reduced from 122 to 121. Final results were: Labour 50, National 48, New Zealand First 7, Greens 6, Maori Party 4, United Future 3 and The Progressives 1.

2National Leader Don Brash has decided to remain on with the party as leader despite losing the election. He says he plans to fight the next election, which he believes may be sooner than three years from now.
