A documentary about the sinking of the passenger cruise ship Mikhail Lermontov in the Marlborough Sounds on February 16, 1986. The ship was carrying 738 passengers and crew and dozens of local fishermen and boaties risked their lives to rescue survivors, many of whom never fully recovered. An experienced New Zealand pilot was blamed, and in a secret, out of court settlement the Marlborough Harbour Board made a $5 million payment to the Russioan government. Fourteen years later, those involved, including the shamed Russian Minister Vladislav Vorobyov and his imprisoned Second Mate, tell what happened.
