(heavy thump) (heavy door opening) (mechanical whirring) (buzzing) (squeaking) (gasping, retching) (gasps) Hello? (coughing) Hello?! (creature squeals) (growling) (squealing) (gasping) Hey! Hey! Help me! (rapid panting) (whirring stops) (buzzer blares) (panting slows) (whirring) (laughter) Okay, go get him. Day one, Greenie. Rise and shine. (laughter) Kid looks like a slopper to me. (indistinct chatter, laughter) I could use some help in the kitchen. (laughter) ALL: Oh! Hey, we got a runner! Yeah, look at him go. (panting) (groans) Whoa! Oh, yeah! (laughter) Watch it there, Greenie. Nice! (whooping) Take it all in. Be here a long time! (whooping continues) (panting) (boys whooping) (dramatic music) Able 2016 (grunting) (lock clicking) He's all yours! I got it. Tie the end. (goat bleating) Okay. What do you think? Hey. (gasps) Hey there, Green Bean. You're not gonna run again, okay? Good. (lock clicking) (clears throat) My name is Alby. Now, can you tell me anything about yourself, who you are, where you came from? Anything at all? (sniffling) No. Can you tell me your name? No. I, uh... I can't remember anything. Why can't I remember anything? It's okay. (breathing heavily) Hey, relax. Relax. It's normal. (sighs) It happens to us all. You get your name back in a day or two. It's the one thing they let us keep. What is this place? Let me show you. (indistinct chatter) ALBY: We eat here. We sleep here. We grow our own food. We build our own shelter. Whatever we need, the Box provides. The rest is up to us. "The Box"? Yeah. They send them once a month with fresh supplies and a new Greenie. This month, that's you. Congratulations. Sent up? By who, though? Who put us here? Yeah, that we don't know. Hey, you all right, Alby? (chuckles) Green Bean, meet Newt. Hi. When I'm not around, he's in charge. Well, it's a good thing you're always around, then. Listen, that was some dash you made earlier. You know, for a second, I thought you had the chops to be a runner, till you face-planted. (laughs) That's great. Wait, a "runner"? Newt, do me a favour. Go find Chuck. All right. Thanks. Look, I'm sorry to rush this. You came up a little late, and there's a lot to do. We got something special planned tonight. Yeah. You'll see. Hope you're not afraid of heights. Let's go. Come on. This is all we got. We've worked hard for it. If you respect this place, you and I will get along just fine. What's out there? We only have three rules. First, do your part. No time for any freeloaders. Second, never harm another Glader. None of this works unless we have trust. And most importantly, never go beyond those walls. Do you understand me, Greenie? Hey, Alby! (chuckles) ALBY: Hey, Chuck. Where you been, man? CHUCK: It's basically the same story for all of us. We wake up in the Box. Alby gives us the tour. Then here we are. Don't worry. You're already doing better than I did. I clunked my pants three times before they got me out of the pit. Three more of those! Oh, come on. Here's the last one. All right, lash those all together, guys. Dude, where are you going? I just want to see. You can look around all you want, but you better not go out there. Why not? What's through there? I don't know. I just know what I'm told. And we're not supposed to leave. (sighs) Hey, Chuck. New Greenie, huh? How does it feel to be promoted? Feels great, Ben. I thought no one was allowed to leave. I said we're not allowed to leave. They're different-- they're runners. They know more about the maze than anyone. W-Wait, what? What? What? You just said "maze." What? I-I did? Yeah. CHUCK: Where are you going? What are you doing? I'm just gonna take a look. I told you, you can't. No one leaves, especially not now. It's not safe. Okay, all right, I'm not gonna go. Hey! (grunts) (panting) We got to stop meeting like this, Greenie. Get off me. All right, calm, calm, calm, calm. Hey, don't touch me! Whoa, take it easy. Take it easy. Just relax. Hey, what the hell is wrong with you guys? Relax. Just calm down, all right? No, okay? Why won't you tell me what's out there? Just trying to protect you, man. For your own good. All right, you guys can't just keep me here. I can't let you leave. Why not? (rumbling) (rumbling continues) (wind whistling) (panting) What the hell? (rumbling continues) (rumbling stops) Next time, I'm gonna let you leave. Welcome to the Glade. Light him up! (cheering) ALL: Gladers! Gladers! Gladers! Gladers! Gladers! Gladers! Gladers! (cheering continues) (chuckles) To the Gladers! Hell of a first day, Greenie. Here. Put some hair on your chest. (gags, spits) Oh! (coughs) Oh, my God, what is that? (chuckles) (coughing) I don't even know. It's Gally's recipe. It's a trade secret. Yeah, well, he's still an asshole. He saved your life today. Trust me. The maze is a dangerous place. We're trapped here, aren't we? For the moment. But... you see those guys? There, by the fire? Those are the runners. And that guy in the middle there, that's Minho. He's the Keeper of the runners. Now, every morning when those doors open, they run the maze, mapping it. Memorizing it, trying to find a way out. How long have they been looking? Three years. And they haven't found anything? It's a lot easier said than done. (distant rumbling) Listen. (rumbling continues) Hear that? That's the maze changing. It changes every night. How is that even possible? You can ask the people who put us in here if you ever meet the bastards. Listen, the truth is the runners are the only ones that really know what's out there. They're the strongest and the fastest of us all, and it's a good thing, too, because if they don't make it back before those doors close, then they're stuck out there for the night. And no one's ever survived a night in the maze. (rumbling continues) What happens to them? Well, we call them Grievers. Of course, no one's ever... seen one and lived to tell about it. But they're out there. Right, well, that's enough questions for one night. Come on. Listen, you're supposed to be the guest of honour. Oh, well, no, no... No! No, no, come on. Let me show you around. I... Really, I'm not... Come on. Yeah, I've got... (grunting, cheering) Oh! Ow! Over there, we've got the builders. Very good with their hands, but then not a lot going upstairs. And then we got Winston. He's the Keeper of the slicers. And we got two med-jacks, Clint and Jeff. Right here. What's up? Yo, Newt. They spend most of their time bandaging up the slicers. What if I want to be a runner? (Newt chuckles) Have you listened to a word I just said? No... no one wants to be a runner. And besides, you got to get chosen. (grunting) Get chosen by who? (shouts) Whoa! (grunts) Huh? What do you say, Greenie? Want to see what you're made of? Greenie! Greenie! ALL: Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! Greenie! (cheering) CHUCK: Come on, Greenie! Yeah! GALLY: Okay. All right. The rules are simple, Greenie. I try and push you out of the circle. You try and last more than five seconds. (laughter) Take it easy on the Greenie, Gally. GALLY: Ready? Come on! (grunting, cheering) (coughing) Get up, boy. Come on, Greenie. We're not done yet. Show us what you got. (laughter) Stop calling me Greenie. GALLY: Stop calling you that? What do you want to be called? Shank? (laughter, cheering) Yeah! What do you think, boys? Shank! Shank! Shank! Does he look like a shank? (grunting) ALL: Oh! Come on! (spits) GALLY: You know what? I think I've settled on Shank. (laughter, indistinct chatter) (grunting) Ooh! Oh! Yeah, there you go, Greenie. (cheering) Not bad for a Greenie, huh? (groans) (coughing) (crowd groaning) Thomas. Thomas. Hey. Thomas! (chuckles) I remember my name. I'm Thomas! ALL: Thomas! (cheering) Welcome home, Thomas. (laughter) (poignant music) Good job, Thomas. Yeah. (creature screeching in distance) What the hell was that? That, my friend, was a Griever. Don't worry. You're safe here with us. Nothing gets through those walls. All right, guys. Let's tuck it in for the night. Come on. It was a good night. (whistles) Good job, Thomas. Yeah. Bright and early tomorrow, boys. (animal hooting) (distant screeching, rumbling) MAN: You're safe here with us. WOMAN: Wicked is good. THOMAS: What's out there? GIRL: Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, T-Thomas, Thomas. (echoing): Can you hear me? Everything's going to change. ALBY: Thomas. Shh. Hmm? Follow me. ALBY: It's peaceful, isn't it? I know it's hard to believe, but it wasn't always this way. We had dark days. We lost a lot of boys to fear. To panic. But we've come far since then. Established order, made peace. Yeah. Well, why are you telling me this? Because you're not like the others. You're curious. But you're one of us now. You need to know what that means. (sombre music) What happened to them? Like I said, dark days, Thomas. (sniffs) Has anyone tried climbing to the top? Tried it. The ivy doesn't go all the way to the top. And besides, where are you gonna go from there? Yeah, well, what about the Box? You know, next time it comes up, you just jump... No, we tried that. The Box won't go back down with someone in it. Okay, well, what if we... No, we tried it, all right? Twice, all right? Trust me, anything that you think of, we've already tried. The only way out of here is through the maze. Now, look, you want to be helpful? Here, go dig us up some more fertilizer. "Just get the fertilizer, Thomas." "No, just get the fertilizer. You know where it is-- it's just out in the middle of the woods." (birds squawk in distance) (bird cooing) (birds chirping) (intriguing music) (insects buzzing) Oh. (low growl) (exhales) Uh... Ben, right? I don't know if we, uh, ever... (growling) Hey, are you okay? (grunting) (fierce yell) (grunts) Get the hell off me! It's your fault. I saw you. You did this. (grunts) I saw you! (grunting) (screams) (grunting) Hey! Hey! (yelling, grunting) THOMAS: Hey! Help! Help! Help! Help! (grunting) (growling) Come on! Come on! NEWT: Hey! NEWT: Hold him down. Calm down. What are you doing? (growls) Calm down, Ben. Yo, what the hell happened? He just attacked me! You okay? GALLY: Calm down, Ben. (Ben gasps softly) No. No. No. All right, lift his shirt. Please. I didn't mean it! Lift his shirt. (grunts) No! No. No, no, please. Please. (panting) He's been stung. (quietly): Help me, please. (crying): Please. Please, just help. Put him in the pit. Come on, everybody help. Take him to the pit. No! No! Med-jack! BEN: Please! Please don't do it! GALLY: Calm down, Ben! BEN: Get off of me! Get off of me! NEWT: Calm down. BEN (crying): Please, no! You don't understand! Please stop! Please... He did this! Please stop! No! No, please! Help me! THOMAS: So what happened to him? It's called "the Changing." It's what happens when someone gets stung. Listen. We haven't been able to get a clear word out of Ben since it happened. You know, he's not making any sense. And it's only gonna get worse. The infection is spreading. He's dangerous. What did he say to you? Um... he-he said he saw me and that this is all my fault. How could this be my fault? All right, get some rest. (pats Thomas's back) Wha... Alby. Yeah? What's gonna happen to him? (birds warbling, chittering) (Ben panting, groaning) Just listen to me. Just, please, listen to me! Please, Minho... (growling) Alby! (low growling) (rasping breaths) (growling) (high-pitched gasping breath) (Ben panting loudly) (Ben sobbing) (coughs, pants) (trembling): No, no, please, please don't, please don't do it. (weak, rasping breath) (rumbling) (whimpering) (rumbling continues) (whimpering, crying) Poles! (grunts) No. No. (Ben's gasping breaths) (raspy breaths) ALBY: Move in! (panting): N-No... No, no! No, please! No. Please. Please! Please, don't! No, I can get better! Please! Just listen to me! (crying): Please, no! Please, no! You don't underst... ALBY: Push him in! No, stop! (sobbing): I'll get better! I'll get better! (others grunting) (gasping breaths) (sobbing): No! Please, just listen... Please! Pl... No, no, no! No! No... (sobbing) (screaming) (insects chittering) (bird squawking in distance) (birds chirping) He belongs to the maze now. INDISTINCT CHATTER ENGINE RUMBLES, REVS ENGINE REVS INDISTINCT CHATTER TENSE MUSIC HEARTBEAT THUDS ENGINE REVS GEARS CRANK, ENGINE REVS, TYRES PEAL Whoo! ENGINE ROARS, TYRES PEAL Yo! TYRES SQUEAL Whoo-hoo-hoo! Whoo-hoo! Whoo-hoo! I feel like I'm in a game. BOTH: Whoo! EXCITING MUSIC LAUGHTER, TYRES SQUEAL Far out! BOTH LAUGH This is insane! POWERFUL MUSIC (continues striking chisel) THOMAS: Do you think he might make it? (sighs) Ben? No. No one survives a night in the maze. (deep creaking in distance) You just got to forget about him. (deep creaking in distance) (birds warbling) (deep whirring) GIRL (echoing): Thomas. WOMAN (echoing): Wicked is good. Don't make it easy on them. GIRL (distorted): Thomas. (echoing): Everything's going to change. THOMAS (echoing): Wicked is good. MAN (echoing): This is gonna hurt a little. WOMAN: Wicked is good. WOMAN 2: Thomas... (echoing): you have to choose. (rumbling, clanking) (exhales) (rumbling) (rumbling continues) (rumbling stops) (low, indistinct chatter) THOMAS: All right, but why would Alby go in the maze? I mean, he's not a... he's not a runner. NEWT: Things are different now. Alby went to retrace Ben's footsteps before sundown. Look, are you gonna help? Okay, so he's gonna go back to where Ben was just stung... Alby knows what he's doing. All right? He knows better than any of us. What does that mean? (sniffs) All right, it's like you've heard, yeah? Every month, the Box sends up a new arrival. But someone had to be first, right? Someone had to have spent a whole month in the Glade alone. And that was Alby. I mean, it can't have been easy. But when those other boys started coming up, one after the other, he saw the truth. And he learned that the most important thing is that we all have each other. 'Cause we're all in this together. (exhales) (gentle music) Yeah. There you go, Greenie. (distant rumbling) (intriguing music) THOMAS: They should be back by now. What happens if they don't make it? They're gonna make it. And what happens if they don't? They're gonna make it. (intriguing music continues) (crows cawing in distance) (birds chirping) (low, deep creaking in distance) Come on, guys, can't we send someone after them? GALLY: That's against the rules. Either they make it back or they don't. Can't risk losing anyone else. (deep creaking) Oh, no. (rumbling, deep creaking) There! (loud, echoing grunt) Wait, no, something's wrong. (grunting, groaning) Come on, Minho, you can do it! Come on! Come on, Minho! (all shouting) CHUCK: Come on! You can make it! Minho, you got to leave him! They're not gonna make it. (indistinct shouts) GALLY: You got to leave him! (grunting) (yelling) (dramatic music) (all mouth inaudibly) GALLY: Hey! CHUCK: Thomas, no! (others shouting) (grunting) (yells) (grunts) (panting) (both panting) Good job. (panting) You just killed yourself. Wait, wh-what? (panting) (both continue panting) What happened to him? MINHO: What does it look like? He got stung. What happened to his head? I did what I had to do. (eerie screeching in distance) (Minho grunting) Uh, okay, all right, help me get him up. We got to go. The maze is already changing. Hey, Minho! (low, deep creaking) We can't just leave him here. THOMAS: We got to get him up. (Thomas and Minho grunting) (panting, grunting) MINHO: Come on. (panting, grunting) MINHO: Oh. Okay, just sit him down. Sit him down. (grunts) (panting, grunting) (screeching in distance) This isn't gonna work. We got to go. We got to go. Wait, wait, what are you talking about? We got to do something. We got to hide him. Where? I don't know, Minho. Just think-- you're telling me there's not a single place we can take him? (frustrated grunt) Listen to me, shuck-face, all right? Take a look around! There's nowhere to go! (distant screeching) You don't get it. We're already dead. (low, deep creaking) (Thomas and Minho grunting) THOMAS: Two... three. (loud grunting) One, two... three. (both grunting loudly, Thomas and Minho gasping for breath) Okay. (low rumbling) What are you doing? What are you doing? (Minho panting) What are you doing? (rumbling, deep whooshing) We got to go. We got to go right now. What? No, no, no. No, we got to go. Just a little more, and we'll tie it off. No, no, no, no, no, no... (low growling) (thumping, whooshing) Minho, stay with me, okay? Oh! Stay with me, Minho, okay? Just a little more. We're almost there. I'm sorry, Greenie. What? Minho! (Thomas grunting) (eerie screeching in distance) (grunts) (low, deep growling) (panting) (low growling) (distant howling) (clanking, clicking, thumping) (low growling) (clanking, thumping) (growling) (distant screeching) (trembling, panting) Okay. (grunting) (low growling in distance) (grunting) (clanking, thumping) Come on. (low growling) (gasping) (snarling, growling) (clanking, thumping) (clanking, thumping recede in distance) (panting) (low rumbling) (low growling) (distant thumping, rumbling) (distant screeching) (distant rumble, screeching) (squishing) (low growling) Whoa! (gasping) (roaring) (gasping, grunting) Whoa! (yelling) No! (grunting) (screeches) Oh! (grunting) (continues gasping, grunting) (rumbling) (rumbling) Oh, shit! (clanking) (grunting) (yells) (grunting, gasping) Whoa! (grunting) Whoa! (gasping, grunting) (low growling) (screeching) (screams) (grunts) (gasping, panting) (screeching) (gasps, pants) (screeching) (grunts, gasps) (grunting) (snarls, screeches) (screaming) (grunts) (low growl) (screeching) (grunting) MINHO: Hey. (gasps) You're a crazy son of a bitch. Okay, come on, follow me! Come on! (deep growling in distance) (rumbling) Okay, it's changing, it's changing. Come on, come on, come on, come on. This section's closing. Come on. We can lose it down here! (rumbling) MINHO: Thomas! What are you waiting for? Get out of there! (hissing, snarling) (roars) Come on! (Thomas yells) (grunts) Come on! Come on, Thomas! Don't look back! MINHO: Run! (yells) Move it, Thomas! Go on! MINHO: Move your ass! Okay, let's go! Come on! Come on, Greenie! Let's go! (gasping, yelling) Thomas...! (echo fades) (rumbling, clanking) Hey, guys! Get up! (rumbling stops) Told you, Chuck. They're not coming back. Let's go. (grunting) No way. Yeah! Yes! CHUCK: Yeah! Yeah! (Thomas and Minho grunting) (chatter, laughing, whooping) I got him, I got him, I got him. Watch out, watch out. Easy. What happened out there? How'd you guys make it out? (Thomas and Minho panting, coughing) You saw a Griever? (panting): Yeah, I saw one. He didn't just see it. He killed it. (dramatic music) (lively chatter) Things are changing. (chatter quiets) There's no denying that. First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight, and then Alby. And now our Greenie here has taken it upon himself to go into the maze. Which is a clear violation of our rules here. Yeah... but he saved Alby's life. Did he? For three years, we have coexisted with these things, and now you've killed one of them. BOY: It's true. Who knows what that could mean for us? Well, what do you suggest we do? He has to be punished. (excited chatter) BOY: Whoa, whoa. Come on. He killed a Griever. Gally, come on. Minho. You were there with him. What do you think? (Minho sighs) I think... in all the time we've been here, no one's ever killed a Griever before. When I turned tail and ran, Look, I don't know if he's brave or stupid... (others chuckling quietly) Whatever it is, we need more of it. I say we make him a runner. A runner? What? (excited chatter) Minho, let's not jump the gun here, all right? CHUCK (chanting): Thomas! Thomas! Thomas! Thomas! Calm down, all right? If you want to throw the newbie a parade, that's fine. Go ahead. But if there is one thing that I know about the maze, it is that you do not... (rumbling, distant bellowing) (low, indistinct chatter) (repeated bellowing, rumbling) Come on, hurry up! Okay, wait, wait, I know that sound. The Box-- it's coming back up. It shouldn't be. (clanking, whirring) Newt, what do you see? Do you see it? What's in there? It's a girl. No. What? No way. NEWT: I think she's dead. What's in her hand? Is she all right? "She's the last one... ever." What the hell does that mean? (gasping breath) (all gasp) (gasping breaths) Thomas... (panting slows) You still think I'm overreacting? (Alby coughing, grunting) NEWT: Jeff... what's going on? What's the matter with her? Why won't she wake up? Hey, man, I got my job the same way you did. Well, do you recognize her? No. Really? 'Cause she seemed to recognize you. What about the note? Yeah, we'll worry about the note later. I think you should worry about it now. We've got enough to deal with at the moment. JEFF: He's right, Newt. If the Box isn't coming back up, how long do you think we can last? No one said that. Let's not jump to any conclusions. We'll just... we'll just wait until she wakes up and see what she knows. Somebody's got to have some answers around here. Okay. And where are you going? Back into the maze. Hey. Hey, Thomas. Hey. Hey. Come on. What is this with you, huh? A death wish? You just got out, and now you want back in? Newt said that no one's ever seen a Griever and lived to tell about it, right? And, Minho, now we have one. You're telling me you're not even a little bit curious? Not really, no. So, what's the plan? You gonna go out and dissect that thing all by yourself? I will if I have to. Have the other runners left yet? The other runners quit this morning. MINHO (sighs): After Alby got stung, they're not in any hurry to get back out there. Why are you? I-I think it's time we find out what we're really up against. All right. But you're not going back out there alone. Meet me in the woods in half an hour. (low, indistinct chatter) BOY (in distance): Yeah, next time, you can do it. (exhales) Will this be enough? Okay. Let's go. (intriguing music) MINHO: Come on! (suspenseful music) That's disgusting. Hey, there's something in there. You mean besides a Griever pancake? (faint rumbling) Whoa, whoa, whoa, wh-what are you doing? (clanking) (all gasping) Shh! Whoa, whoa, whoa! I thought you said it was dead. Was it a reflex? You hope. Okay, come on, let's try and pull it out. All right, let's go, everyone get a hand on it. Come on. All right, ready? On three. One, two, three. (all grunting) (grunting) (panting) You okay, Fry? Yeah. Thanks, brother. (exhales) (squishing) (disgusted groans) What the hell is that? (quiet, steady beeping) Interesting. FRY: Okay, whatever it is, can we take this up back at the Glade? 'Cause I don't want to meet this guy's friends. He's right. It's getting late. Come on. THOMAS: Yeah, we found this. It was inside a Griever. These are the same letters we get on our supplies. Yeah. Whoever put us here obviously made the Grievers. And this is the first real clue, the first anything, you've found in over three years, right, Minho? Right. Newt, we got to go back out there. Who knows where this might lead us? You see what he's trying to do, right? First he breaks our rules, and then he tries to convince us to abandon them totally. What... The rules are the only thing that have ever held us together. Why now are we questioning that? If Alby was here, you know he'd agree with me. This shank... needs to be punished. You're right. Thomas broke the rules. One night in the pit and no food. Oh, come on, Newt! One night in the pit-- you think that's gonna stop him from going into the maze? No. And we can't just have non-runners running into the maze whenever they feel like it. So let's just make this official. Starting from tomorrow, you're a runner. Wow. Gally... No, Fry. Thanks, Newt. (birds squawking, chirping) Hey, where are we going? You'll see. (sighs) It's the maze. All of it. There's nothing left to map. I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle, every pattern. If there was a way out, we would have found it by now. Why haven't you told anyone this? It was Alby's call. People needed to believe we had a chance of getting out. But maybe now, we have a real chance. (sighs) Take a look at this. About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections. All right, we found these numbers printed on the walls. Sections One through Eight. See, the way it works is every night when the maze changes, it opens up a new section. So today, Section Six was open. Tomorrow it'll be Four, then Eight, then Three. The pattern always stays the same. (beeping) What's so special about Seven? I don't know. But last night, when you killed that Griever, Section Seven was open. I think it must be where it comes from. Tomorrow, you and I are gonna take a closer look. Hey! What are you guys doing? You're not allowed in here. (panting) Sorry, it's just the, um... It's the girl. What, is she awake? You could say that. GALLY: Come down here! Chuck, what's going on? GALLY: Stay back, stay back! (laughs) Girls are awesome. GALLY: There you go. All right. FRY: Oh, damn! Leave me alone! Everybody, watch your heads! Heads, heads, heads! Hey! Throw one more of those things, I'm... (groans) Go away! We come in peace! Yo, Gally, what happened? Just duck. I don't think she likes us very much. What do you want from me? Hey, look, we just want to talk. I'm warning you! Oh, take cover, y'all. Take cover! Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, whoa, it's Thomas! It's Thomas! She stopped? Okay, I'm gonna come up, okay? Okay. Just me. Now, I'm coming up. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, just... Easy, all right? Where am I? What is this place? Why can't I remember anything? This-this is all normal, okay? We've... we've all been through this. Okay? And your name, that'll come back to you in a couple of days. It's like the one thing that... Teresa. What'd you say? My name. It's Teresa. (softly): Okay. All right, Teresa, I'm Thomas. But... but you already knew that, though, I guess, huh? They said I kept saying your name in my sleep. Who are you? I don't know. I-I-I can't remember, okay? None of us... none of us here can remember anything. We all woke up here, just like you did. Hey, I promise, we're... I'm gonna... I'm gonna take this. Okay. (chuckles) GALLY: What's going on up there? Is she coming down? Um... Hey, listen, you guys just give us a second, okay? (sighs) All right. Come on. Is this what all girls are like? That girl is crazy. TERESA: "She's the last one." What does that mean? I'm not sure. Ever since you came up, that Box hasn't gone back down. You know, and I just think it's got everyone a little worried. Especially Gally. He thinks it's my fault. (sighs) Are you sure you don't remember anything else? I remember water. Feeling like I was drowning. These faces staring at me. And this voice, this woman's voice saying the same thing over and over. "Wicked is good." Ever since I've been here, I've had these dreams. Well, I thought they were dreams. You... You were there. You were there, and you told me that everything was gonna change. (sighs) What does it mean? I don't know. I... I just always get pieces. And the others don't remember anything? No. Why are we different? These were in my pocket when I came up. "W.C.K.D." "Wicked is good." What if we were sent here for a reason? Alby. (gasping, groaning) NEWT: We don't even know what this stuff is. We don't know who sent it, or why it came up here with you. He's already dying. Look at him. How could this possibly make it any worse? (gasping) Come on, it's worth a try. (Alby groaning) All right. Do it. Okay. (grunting) Whoa! You shouldn't be here! You shouldn't be here! Whoa! No! Grab him! Watch out. Whoa! (grunting) Get the syringe! Let go! (panting) Well, that worked. Okay, from now on, someone stays here and watches him around the clock. Hey. Sundown, Greenie. Time to go. Hey, what is your problem with me? Everything started going wrong the minute you showed up. First Ben, then Alby, and now the girl. Everybody saw she recognized you. And I'm betting you know who she is. Gally. You-you know we can't stay here forever, right? (rustling) Who's there? It's just me. (sighs) Sorry, Chuck. Here. You'll run better on a full stomach. (chuckles) Oh. Mmm. Thanks, Chuck. Hey, what do you got there? Oh, wow, that came out pretty damn good. What's that for? It's for my parents. You remember your parents? (softly): No. Well, I mean, I know I must have them. (sighs) And wherever they are, I'm sure they miss me, but... I can't miss them because I don't remember them. What do you think you're gonna find out there tomorrow? I-I don't know. Hey, but if there's a way out, Chuck, me and Minho are gonna find it. (sighs) Here. (chuckles) Chuck, why would you give this to me? I can't remember them anyway, but maybe if you find a way out, you can give it to them for me. I'll let you get some sleep. Hey, Chuck? Come here. Put out your hand. I want you to give that to them yourself. We're gonna get out of here. All of us. Okay? I promise. Yeah. All right. Good night. Night, buddy. (sighs) Big day, Greenie. You sure you don't want to sit this one out? Come on, man. Get me out of here. All right. (rumbling) Let's go! (dramatic music) (panting) This way! Not much further to the inner ring. Let's go! Come on, this way. (dramatic music continues) MINHO: That's strange. THOMAS: What? MINHO: Seven's not supposed to be open for another week. THOMAS (sighs): What the hell is this place? MINHO (echoing): We call them blades. (panting) It's Ben's, isn't it? Yeah. A Griever must have pulled him down here. (buzzing, whirring) Whoa, hey! (clicking) (buzzing, clicking continue) (rapid clicking) I think it's showing us the way. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What, what? (clicking continues) This way. Come on. (clicking continues) Minho, you ever see this place before? (echoing): No. (clicking continues) (rapid clicking) Ah, it's just another dead end. (squeals, clicking continues) (beeps, trilling) (clanking) (gasps) (rumbling) You sure about this? Nope. (electronic trilling) (buzzing) (distant tones) (mechanical hissing, creaking) What the hell was that? (low note blares) (mechanisms clicking) We got to get out of here. Give me the key. Give me the key. (grunts) All right, move, move, move! (panting) We got to go! Run, Thomas! We're gonna get trapped! (grunting) Go, Go! Go! Go, go, go, go, go, go, go! (yells) Move! Come on! Minho! Come on, let's go, let's go! Come on! (panting, grunting) (yelling) Come on! Oh! Keep going, keep going! Let's go! (grunting) Go, go, go, go, go! (rumbling) Whoa! Aah! Go, go, go, go! (rumbling) Whoa! Come on! Don't look back! Come on! (grunting) Oh, shit! There! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! (grunting) (groaning) (panting) (rumbling) Whew! (rumbling) NEWT: Now, what the hell is going on out there? We found something, a new passage. We think it could be a way out. Really? It's true. We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it must be where the Grievers go during the day. Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, you're saying you found the Grievers' home? And you want us to go in? Their way in could be our way out, Chuck. Yeah, or there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side. The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he's done, as usual. Yeah, well, at least I did something, Gally. I mean, what have you done, huh? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time. Let me tell you something, Greenie. You've been here three days, all right? I've been here three years. Yeah, you've been here three years, and you're still here, Gally. All right, so what does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently. Maybe you should be in charge, Thomas. Guys. Hey! What about that? Maybe you should be in charge. It's Alby! He's awake. Good evening. Any alcohol tonight? Good evening. Any alcohol tonight? I am the master of the way. Good evening. Any alcohol tonight? I am the master of the way. ALL CHATTER, LAUGH Good evening. Any alcohol tonight? Hey! Over here, mate. Alby, you all right? Hey, Alby. Alby, we might have just found a way out of the maze. You hear me? We could be getting out of here. We can't. We can't leave. They won't let us. What are you talking about? I remember. What do you remember? You. You were always their favourite, Thomas. Always. (shouting outside) Why did you do this? Why did you come here? (shouting continues) (Alby crying) BOY: What are we gonna do?! Where should I go? (shouting continues) Hey, Winston, what's going on? The doors, they aren't closing. (frantic chatter) (clanking, rumbling) (gasping) (rumbling) (birds cawing) (clanking, rumbling) (gasping) (rumbling) Okay, Chuck, I want you to go to the Council Hall, okay? Start barricading the doors. Mm-hmm, okay. Winston, you go with him. Got it. GALLY: Get the others. Tell them to go to the forest, go hide. Now! Minho, I want you to grab every weapon you can find. I'll meet you at Council Hall. Let's go. Okay, Teresa, you and I are gonna go get Alby, all right? Come on. Run! Grievers! Go back! Go back! (Grievers bellowing) All right, everybody hide! Go, go! Run! Teresa, come on! Run! Run! Go! Go! Go! Help! Take cover! No! Stay down! Run! (screaming) (Griever bellowing) (screaming) (chittering) (groans) Zart! No! (screams) Help me! Go, go! Get to the village! Go, go, go, go! Go. (screaming) Shh. Stay down, stay down. Gally! Let me in, let me in. (screams) Alby! Are you okay? What's going on? They're here. Grievers? (screaming) Thomas, what do we do? It's got me! (screaming) THOMAS: Everybody run! Run, run! Jeff, come on! Go, go, go, go, go, go! In here, guys! (screaming) Oh, shit! (screeches) Come on, keep moving! (Gladers shouting) Go! Go, go, go! He's gaining, he's gaining! He's right behind me! Help! (panting) (screams) Whoa! Keep moving! Oh, shit! (grunts) Go. Just go. Alby! Get behind me! Come on! FRY: Over here! Let's go! Over here! Let's go! Come on! Whoa, whoa! Get to cover! Over here, come on! Winston! Go! Take him, Winston. Get Alby inside. Chuck, get in. Here, take this, take this. Go, go, go, go! Lock down the doors. (Griever chittering) (thumping) (thumping continues) (chittering) TERESA: Careful. (Griever screeches, gasping) NEWT: Stay back, guys. (thumping) Shh. FRY: Shh. (gasping, shouting) CHUCK: Move! (screaming) (grunting, coughing) NEWT: Is everyone all right? JEFF: Yeah, I'm okay. BOY: Help! Hey, grab him! Help! (screams) (gasping) Watch out! Hey, get away from there! Get back. Hey, get back, get back. (screaming) Whoa! JEFF: Chuck! THOMAS: Get him, get him! (screams) Chuck, no! Grab him! Pull him back! Help! Chuck, don't let go! No shit! Pull! Don't let him go! (shouting, grunting) Keep pulling! (bellowing) (screaming) (bellows) (yells) (Chuck coughing) Chuck, you okay? Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks, Alby. (Griever chittering) Alby! Watch out! (screaming) NEWT: Grab him! (grunting) Thomas, get them out. (screaming) Alby! No! Thomas? Thomas! No, don't go out there! Thomas, no! No! Thomas, wait! Thomas, wait! (distant bellowing) No, no! No! No! Where is everybody? Who's that over there? Gally... (grunts) Whoa, hey! Whoa, whoa, come on! This is all you, Thomas, huh? Look around! Back up! Back up, Gally! It's not Thomas's fault! You heard what Alby said. He's one of them! One of who? He's one of them, and they sent him here to destroy everything, and now he has. Look around, Thomas. Look around. This is your fault. Hey, back off, Gally! This is not Thomas's fault. Calm down. Calm down. What are you talking about? Get off! Hey! Calm down. A lot's happened today, all right? They sent him here, and now he's destroyed everything that we've built. What are you talking about? Gally, calm down, there's no point. Hey! Hold him back! Gally, you have to relax! Maybe he's right. No, no, let go of me! Thomas? THOMAS: I need to remember, Teresa. Calm down, all right? Just get off me! Calm down, all right? Thomas? (screaming) Thomas! No, don't! Hey, what are you... Thomas. Hey! TERESA: Chuck, get the other syringe. Thomas? Thomas. It's okay. Say something. You all right? TERESA: Thomas, I'm here. THOMAS: Who put us here? ALBY: That we don't know. THOMAS: Teresa, why are we doing this? Excellent, Thomas. Come with me. Wicked isn't good. Thomas, Wicked is good. THOMAS: How could this be my fault? BEN: You did this! I saw you! THOMAS: I can't keep watching them die. TERESA: Hey. Are you okay? What the hell were you thinking? What happened? NEWT: Gally's taken control. He said we had a choice. Either join him or get banished at sundown with you. (groans) And the others agreed to that? Gally has everyone convinced that you're the reason all this has happened. Well, he's been right so far. What are you talking about? This place... it's not what we thought it was. It's not a prison; it's a test. It all started when we were kids. They'd give us these challenges. They were experimenting on us. And then people started disappearing. Every month, one after the other, like clockwork. Sending them up into the maze? Yeah, but not all of us. What do you mean? Guys, I'm one of them. The people who put you here, I worked with them. I-I watched you guys for years. The entire time you've been here, I... I was on the other side of it. And so were you. What? Teresa, we did this to them. No. That can't be true. THOMAS: It is. I saw it. Why would they send us up if we were with them? It doesn't matter. NEWT: He's right. It doesn't matter. Any of it. These Creators took care of that. But what does matter is who we are now and what we do right now. You went into the maze, and you found a way out. Yeah, but if I hadn't, Alby would still be alive. Maybe. But I know that if he were here, he would be telling you the exact same thing. Pick your ass up and finish what you started. 'Cause if we do nothing, then that means Alby died for nothing, and I can't have that. Okay. Okay, but we got to get through Gally first. (tapping) This is such a waste. Gally. It doesn't feel right, man. JEFF: Yeah, what if Thomas is right? Maybe he can lead us home. We are home. Okay? I don't want to have to cross any more names off that wall. You really think banishing us is going to solve anything? No. But this isn't a banishing. It's an offering. What? Wait! Gally, what are you doing? You really think I'm gonna let Thomas back into the maze after what he's done? Look around you! Look at our Glade. This is the only way. And when the Grievers get what they came here for, everything goes back to the way it was. Are you listening to this? Why are you all just standing there? He's crazy. You shut up. If you stay here, the Grievers are going to come back. They're gonna come back, and they're gonna keep coming back until you're all dead. Shut up! Tie him up. Do you hear me? I said tie him up! (grunting) Hey! Aah! You're full of surprises, aren't you? You don't have to come with us, but we are leaving. Anyone else who wants to come, now's your last chance. Don't listen to him. He's just trying to scare you. All right? No, I'm not trying to scare you. You're already scared. All right, I'm scared. But I'd rather risk my life out there than spending the rest of it in here. We don't belong here. Okay? This place isn't our home. We were put here. Okay? We were trapped here. At least out there, we have a choice. We can make it out of here. I know that. I'm sorry. THOMAS: Gally, it's over. Just come with us. Good luck against the Grievers. (determined music) THOMAS: Everybody, this way! (determined music continues) Keep it up, guys. We're almost there! (chittering) CHUCK: Is it a Griever? Yeah. Shit. You take this, Chuck. Stay behind us. It's okay. Just stick with me. Once we're through, it'll activate and the door will open. All right, we stay close, we stick together, we get through this. We get out now, or we die trying. Ready? Here we go. Let's do this. All right, let's go! (all bellowing) (chittering) Get up! Look out! Again! Push it! MINHO: Watch the tail! Watch out! Look out, look out! No! (screaming) Whoa! (grunts) The key! Chuck! Watch the edge! (grunting) (chittering) Oh, no. (grunts) I got you, Chuck! Pull me up, pull me up! Watch it! Push! (all yelling) (screeches) (cheering) Come on! Thomas! Thomas! Chuck? All right, we got more coming! Here they come! Look out! Keep it steady, guys! MINHO: Hold it! It works. Come on! Teresa, go! Don't back down! Keep pushing! Stay together! Stay together! (Chuck shouts) There's got to be a way out! Come on! Hold him back! (bellowing) (growling) Watch it! Watch it! Watch out! (screaming) (bellowing) (electronic trilling) It won't open! Thomas! There's a code! Eight numbers! Eight sections of the maze. Hey, Minho! What? What?! What's the sequence? The sections of the maze, what's the sequence? (growling) Seven, one, five, two, uh, six, four... Whoa, heads up! Look out! Look out, Minho! (screams) Minho! Minho! (shouting) (groaning) Get off of me! Go! Somebody help him! Go, go, go! (bellowing) Back up, back up! (grunting) (screaming) Jeff! Jeff! (screaming continues) Minho, what's the sequence? Come on! Uh, six, four, eight, three! You got it? There's nowhere to go! Keep holding! Almost there! Come on! The door opened! (grunting) (chittering) (screeching) (grunting) (screaming) (rumbling) (door creaking) (clanking) (lights buzzing) (liquid flowing, dripping) (faint, echoing thumping) (liquid flowing, dripping) Seriously? (faint, echoing thumping) (alarm whooping in distance) (door creaks) (alarm continues) (tense music) WINSTON: What happened here? (electrical crackling) (tense music continues) (electrical crackling continues) So they were watching us. NEWT: This whole time. (tense music continues) (soft, low clicking) (on video): Hello. My name is Dr. Ava Paige. I'm director of operations of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. If you're watching this, that means you've successfully completed the Maze Trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you... but circumstances seem to have prevented it. I'm sure by now you must all be very confused, angry, frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason. You won't remember, but the sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire, famine, suffering on a global scale. The fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse. We called it the Flare. A deadly virus that attacks the brain. It is violent, unpredictable... incurable. Or so we thought. In time, a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly, there was a reason to hope for a cure. But finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed, inside harsh environments, where their brain activity could be studied. All in an effort to understand what makes them different... what makes you different. You may not realize it, but you're very important. Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you'll no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods. Progress is slow, people are scared. It may be too late for us... for me... but not for you. The outside world awaits. Remember... ...Wicked is good. (gunshot) (intense music) (alarm blaring, whooshing) (intense music continues) Is it over? She said we were important. Well, what are we supposed to do now? I don't know. But let's get out of here. GALLY: No. Gally? Don't. He's been stung. We can't leave. We did. Gally, we're out. We're free. Free? (raspy sob) You think we're free out there? No. No, there's no escape from this place. (crying) Gally, listen to me. You're not thinking straight. You're not. Now, we can help you. Just put down the gun. I belong to the maze. THOMAS: Just put down the gun. We all do. Gally! No! (gunshot) (Gally gasping) (gasps) (Gally groans) (gun clatters to floor) Whoa. Thomas... (weak groan) (quietly): Chuck... Chuck... Oh, no. Chuck? Chuck? Shit. Shit. Hey, look at me, look at me, look at me. (panting): Oh, shit. (groaning weakly) Chuck, look at me, all right? I got you, buddy. Just hang on. Shit, shit, shit. It's okay. Thomas, Thomas... (gasping breaths) No, no, Chuck. You're gonna give it to them yourself, remember? I told you that. Take it. THOMAS: No. (soft, rapid breathing) Thank you. Thank you. No, Chuck, you're gonna... (long exhale) Chuck? (trembling): Chuck? Hey. Hey, Chuck, come on! (crying): Come on, wake up. (sniffles) Damn it! (sobbing loudly) Damn it! (quiet, indistinct chatter) THOMAS (sobbing): Yeah, we made it. Come on. (sobs) I'm sorr... Goddamn it! Damn it! (sobbing): Come on! Thomas. THOMAS: Chuck! Get up, Chuck! Come on! (distorted, muted voices) (dramatic music) (muted, distorted shouts) No! (raspy exhale) THOMAS (echoes): Chuck! You can't just leave him there! (dramatic music continues) (dramatic music continues) You guys all right? Don't worry. You're safe now. (engine hums, helicopter blades buzz) (panting) MAN: Relax, kid. Everything's gonna change. (sighs) Well... I think it's safe to say the Maze Trials were a complete success. I wasn't expecting so many survivors, but... the more, the merrier. Thomas continues to surprise and impress. And for now, they seem to have taken the bait. It's too soon to say, but... they could be the key to everything. So let's move forward. It's time now to begin... Phase Two. (engine roars, helicopter blades buzz) (dramatic music swells)
