Just two countries have won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth games, England and Jamaica. New Zealand and Australia have won gold, New Zealand is hopeful they can join those bronze medal winners today. It is New Zealand versus Jamaica at the Commonwealth games. Jenny May, I suppose it is a wait and see after the lost Australia in the semi-final. This is what it's about today. Yes they will be bitterly disappointed by yesterday's match. If we look at the starting lineup, Sinclair moves back to wing defence. Bailey Mes is that gold shoot. What I can tell you is that Selby-Rickit is ill. She is still back at the players village. She has a virus and can't stand up. Thoughts are with her. No doubt she would love to be with these girls this afternoon. And does open up another opportunity for Bailey Mes playing in a gold shoot. The other two changes from the starting lineup, Francois is moving. Shannon Francois came on to the court last night against Australia and did a fine job. No surprise that she gets that starting bib back. No surprise that we see her at wing defence. This is the strongest lineup. We are used to seeing that towering figure of Fowler-Reid. Shanice Beckford gets the ball out. It will be interesting to see what happens after that one goal loss. They have been guilty at throwing the towel in. They will absolutely back themselves to come out strong this afternoon and perhaps steel an impressive winner gets a silver ferns. Jamaica is the defending bronze medallists. They have 59 shots to 54 yesterday. This young girl here, Sterling has had a 'sterling' tournament. She has played quickly well against the silver ferns. It'll be interesting to see how Katrina Grant contains her. They were exposed last night against the Australians, with Caitlin Bassett and her height. There she goes, Bailey Mes. She is accompanied by Maria Folau who is the third most capped Silver Fern. Grace Kara has been solid. She has been playing at wing attack. Shannon Francois keeping that centre bib. She really proves why she should be starting at centre. Katrina Grant is one of three players in this lineup who played in the final 2014. She is the captain. The defence of lineup is completed. They are so disappointed. The fans in particular, are experiencing the hurt that is going through the New Zealand team. No athlete goes out there to perform badly. You get out there and you do the best that you possibly can. So far hasn't been good enough for the silver ferns, but a bronze medal isn't bad. Against the odds with the way Jamaica has been playing in recent times against New Zealand. They pushed England to just one goal in the semi-final yesterday. The final is England versus Australia. Not a great start for the silver Ferns. In previous Games, Jamaica has not come within seven goals of the Silver ferns. The confidence will be high. Good hustle from Katrina Grant. That ball could have gone straight to Maria Folau then. Bailey Mes open in the back. Good start for her. Good settling shot for Bailey. During yesterday's match, towards the end, the comment that may be New Zealand just needed to be a bit more risky , like Australia did . Long passes . Get out and have a go . It comes with confidence , turning and letting the ball go . A bib on the ground . Contact, gold defence. Maria Folau with a shot, her first for the game. Important for her to get that goal in. You see the difference with the Jamaican team. They turn and look straight towards the goal circle. The first aim is to see if they can get that ball into Fowler-Reid's hands. She is such an imposing figure. You can see her as a target all the time. Is not like the New Zealand team members don't know how good she is. Beckford with the mistake there. Overcooked that pass. Sloppy game so far from both teams. A beautiful pass up and over. Again, we may see... Unless we can get those of feet moving, Fakahokotau, we still have Jury on the bench. She does have a lot more height. A bit more indecision into the minds of the Jamaican feeders. Great start from Bailey. Just look at that really hard job the defence of your have got against this one. She is 1.96 metres tall. You can see the difference when they stand alongside each other. She is not just tall, she is athletic. The reality is, Fakahokotau cannot do it on her own. She needs some players outside to do some work, use the space. Bailey Mes had a few issues with that last night against Australia. A call for three contacts in the time that she did spend on the court. Two in the first minute. Couldn't quite work out why. There was conversation in the break between Katrina Grant and the umpire. I think it is that elbow that she has got. Another turnover for the ferns. Shooter, contact. Contact from Bailey Mes. Sterling. Brilliant Young player. Just 22 years old. Amongst her most admired player is Harrison, the former New Zealand player. Built like her too. Yeah, thinking that. Probably as athletic. Fowler-Reid, her confidence has grown. She was a shooter that would stand close to the post. Now she is getting confidence with the ball in hand. And make the even more dangerous. They are just turning and passing it, and they can when you have a target like that. Placements are not quite there for the silver ferns in the early part of the bronze medal match. Maria from out wide. Three from three. Remember in the match against Australia, there was just errors and an inability to fully take advantage of the opportunities that they open for themselves. It ended up a defeat. Again, Sterling being able to come around the body and tip the ball. Bailey Mes trying to hold underneath that circle. Underneath the goal, rather. Jamaica getting their hands absolutely everywhere. Sterling and Facey. A bit more urgency required from the silver ferns. Grab the ball, pull it in. Placement. Some tired bodies out there, no doubt. It has been a gruelling week of netball. When things aren't going well, it hurts even more. Absolutely. Seven-5, bronze medal match at the Commonwealth Games. Not only physically tired but mentally tired. We are at the stage where we just can't wait for that plane home and close the book on this. Well done. Fakahokotau, call for the contact. Just the what she is up against. Once that was on the circle edge, it is so hard to stop it. The feeder doesn't have anyone in front to take away that vision. It is easy for people to say, stop them getting that ball! It is harder than that. Looking for accuracy here from Maria Folau. Lucky not to get a short pass call from the umpire. Brilliant, Maria Folau. They are actively seeking the intercepts. She is really active, Katrina Grant. You saw her snatch a couple of really good intercepts. Key for turnovers for New Zealand. That is where they have to attack the ball. Not when it's on its way to Fowler-Reid, but before it gets there. It is too hard otherwise. Sterling, that is brilliant. Knowing that Bailey Mes was not going to take the shot out wide, she was looking at the other options that were available. Maria Folau. Not sure if someone stood on her foot. She has had issues before. She is fine. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) concerned on that bench. You can see them hushing the crowd. Sterling! Brilliant defensive work by Sterling. You want to see the best out of court. Easy Pass into Fowler-Reid. 10 for 10. Sitting on 100%. That is very Harrison. Her eyes are wide open on that ball. Jamaica hold a three point lead. Obstruction goalkeeper. Maria Folau. She has set. Contact, shooter. Good rebound by Jamaica. Look at the Silver ferns employing the three-foot guard throughout the court. Beside the keeper. Good clearing pass. Nice. You see the difference when they get that ball out of that defensive end. Nice and cleanly how it sets up for that attacking end. Good defensive. A warning come here. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Fakahokotau being called for a number of contacts on Fowler-Reid. That will be one of the tactics to get under Fowler-Reid skin. You've gotta try everything when she is such a dominant force. Just must be set at this point in time at the match, Jamaica look hungrier than the silver ferns. Physically a little bit more upbeat. More accurate. Surprise that didn't go straight into Fowler-Reid. Maybe trying to mix things up a little bit. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) you'll be crazy not to go for the odd longshot knowing that Fowler-Reid is underneath the post ready to get that rebound. Fowler-Reid going for the longshot. And they get the rebound. That is brilliant. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) the rebound went into both hands. That is called hops. Bailey Mes, good hold. Needs to finish this one off. No matter how high she can get, the highball will find the shooter. As another to the Jamaican score. You need help from that whole defensive end. That comes through from the wing attack to goal attack. Gotta put the pressure on before it gets there. Otherwise you are saying to a teammate, well, good luck. Jamaica is playing like a team that has scored wins against New Zealand recently , unexpectedly so many of them, and they are determined to win this and the bronze medal. Fowler-Reid has been a thorn and every New Zealand side, domestically and internationally, she really is such a dominant figure. As an assistant coach in the northern mystics, it certainly has been a challenge trying to figure out how to combat. At times, we have had little wins. Silver Fern is just not making the most of those opportunities. Ooh, yeah. Fakahokotau did not look good. Landed on top of Fowler-Reid's foot. I would not be surprised if you call time here. That looks nasty, that little fall. Physically, she gives it everything. And has been a long, hard, arduous campaign here for New Zealand. And the buildup to it as well. Fakahokotau leaves. Jury is on to the court. We talked about last night against Australia, never saw it come, great rebound they had. We will see what she can do against Fowler-Reid. Let's have a look at this. Your see her ankle. It has turned, already strapped, that left ankle. And so we have the first quarter of this match. It is the Jamaicans leading New Zealand and the bronze medal game. Fakahokotau receiving quite a bit of attention to her left ankle. She is still off the court as we began the second quarter. New Zealanders trailing by 15 to 11. Probably the two biggest stats from the first 15 minutes would be looking at the shooting stats. Jamaica have only had one more shot at Golden the Silver ferns. 15 from 16, the ferns 11 from 15. The other stat would have to be the feeds into the circle. Jamaica with 24. Of course, they have a bigger target on the back. The Silver ferns are just 12. Interesting listening to the different chats that went on time. A relatively close shot. Sasher Henry asking Shanice Beckford the goal attack for Jamaica to take them on. Have a go and don't be afraid to take the long shots. Why would you when you have somebody like Jhianele Fowler-Reid who can get up for those rebounds. Brilliant shot. She is faced with sterling, who is doing a great job. Jamaica are just all over the silver phones. CORRECTION: silver ferns. Sometimes you don't know what team is going to front up on the day mentally. In this case, they are so keen to add to the worries of the New Zealand team. Jamaica won the middle and 2002 and a 2014. At the other three Commonwealth games, England has won the bronze medal. It's been a battle between Australia and New Zealand in the previous Commonwealth games for the bronze and silver. Fowler-Reid is another to her enormous tally of gold in a career. CORRECTION: goals. Just can't finish it off. The players are tired. Their bodies are feeling it. You need shooters to take the shots and put them in. Otherwise it is an extra amount of work that you have to do. Good work from Sam Sinclair. Fowler-Reid way out of the circle. You need to keep are out there. She can't shoot from out there. She won't shoot from out wide and she can't shoot from outside the circle. I don't think she likes the attention she is getting. (CHUCKLES) she is marked up on her. She is going to try make life miserable for Fowler-Reid. Nice work by Bailey Mes. Sterling jumps that shot. This is the thing about the Jamaicans. This kid won't care. She is out there and doing it. She is 22. It is a young team this Jamaican side. How does that affect Bailey Mes's confidence? It might knock her confidence even more. This is how quickly Jamaica can score. Look at that, up in the air. She has had one against each of the New Zealand shooters. Fowler-Reid looking for help. Again, this is a typical pattern. She gets the ball whether it is outside or inside the circle. She feeds it out and they feed it straight back to her. Somebody needs to be taken away those options on the outside. Nice work. Lovely touch from Grace Kara. It is a better angle. Again, that attempt by Sterling. Good rebound. Four points is the difference. Obstruction, goalkeeper. When Fowler-Reid has the ball out that far, you want to look for other options. Not much you can do when you are standing beside. Nice set up. Good to see Mes with a smile on her face at that stage. Fakahokotau is coming back into the match. Interesting. I thought she was doing OK. You can see the shooting percentage. Jamaica is a 96%. Largely due to Fowler-Reid sitting on 19 from 20. Shanice Beckford three from three. There she goes again. Upsets. Folau had a big frown on her face. The thing is, you can get frustrated about it. Look at that. Just goes to show how athletic Stirling is. A good turnover. Folau making sure. 6-7 to Jamaica in this quarter. That is a big pass. Both defenders went back on to Fowler-Reid. In the process, they got pulled foot contact. CORRECTION: For contact. Centre contact. There is plenty of contact. Nice touch between Folau and Mes. Narrows the gap. How do they keep Fowler-Reid out of close range? Loose pass. Must take advantage of this. That turnover came as a result of the goal attack being under pressure. Yes, there was no one there, but she had` Fowler-Reid was looking for options. That was a last-second one. We need to see more pressure being applied from the silver ferns. Good work, Mes. Looks like there was something majorly wrong with sterling. New Zealander closing up a big second quarter for them. Currently leading this quarter by two goals. Great pressure on the ball from Temalisi Fakahokotau. Great clearing pass by Grant. Again, we see it. Once I get the ball flew out of the defensive end, clearing through the mess. You sense that the Kiwis are playing with more fire. Have a look in the back. Yes, that is it. Jamaica applying a real one-on-one game. They are level. 23 all. Great pressure on the centre pass. That is better defensive pressure. Fowler-Reid going for a longish shop for her and mailing it. She has been forced to do that very often. The team are gaining some confidence from that. Not a great pass. Could have been a straight flat connection. Again, the ferns are working so hard to get the turnovers. Finishing it off. Great work Temalisi Fakahokotau taken away the backspace from Fowler-Reid, Jamaica are really confused but where they need to put the ball into Fowler-Reid. Bailey Mes with a long shot. Sterling. After that little break, Fakahokotau coming on, really doing some damage. In the Jamaican shooting circle. Everyone is suffering out here. At the end of it, who is going to hang in there? Whose bodies are going to be able to cope with all that pressure? Is it Samantha Sinclair moving into centre? This was the starting lineup in the semi-final last night. There is also a change for Jamaica. Romelda Aitken comes in to replace Jhianele Fowler-Reid. Freight call by the coach. Obviously seeing Fakahokotau doing the work. Are you losing anything by putting on Romelda Aitken? She has been playing in the Australian league for a number of years. She has in the last couple of years since Jhianele Fowler-Reid has been the mainstay goal shoot. She has complained on the other end at goal keep. Asking for the ball. First shots and she has come on and she misses. She has not been playing goal shoot much for Jamaica. You wonder about how confident she will be with the shot. She needs to nail those opportunities. You expect that from your goal shoot. That is why you where the bib. You have to nail those shots. Aitken is really high and tall enough. She misses two from three. New Zealand can't get the rebound. Again, it is a bit tough. Set the penalty outside. Easy pass. Again, nice touch from Kara to Folau. 1 minutes left in the second quarter. New Zealand trail by four after the first quarter. Defensively, Fakahokotau and Grant have to figure out how they are going to do things at the bit differently. Yes, they might be around the same height, Aitken and Fowler-Reid. The positioning a slightly different. You have to adjust things. Those on the outside still need to apply the pressure. Folau just on the shot. Fowler-Reid was taking outside shots. Now they have got to do something with Romelda Aitken. Nice passing cut their from Kara. Just under 20 seconds to pull the score a little closer. Contact, advantage outside, weighing. It is frustrating when that happens. It is half time in this bronze medal match. Welcome back. We are just the half-time break of the netball. ABBY WILSON ON THE SIDELINE AT THE NETBALL. Fowler-Reid is pretty tough, isn't she ? She is incredibly tall. Ultimately it was coming down that height difference. Kelly Jury came on when Fakahokotau was injured, but she could by no means control Fowler-Reid. The strength is not just in her shooting, but on her way of getting the ball into her. When the feeding eased off we saw the key was able to get in there. When everything is going well, she is in credit be tough to stop. The percentages are well up there. She is currently at 95%. The Jamaican team is overall at 91%. It is really probably where the silver ferns should be. We saw Bailey Mes make all her shots in the first quarter. That second quarter we saw those shooters slip. We saw the defenders get in their space and a few rejections in the defence and, which really, I think, they started to get a bit of a case of the yips. Those shooting percentages really fall. Right now Folau is at 67%. Right now the silver ferns have had a lot more chances of goals than Jamaica. They have got a tough ask in the second half. Thanks, Abby. AN UPDATE ON THE RUGBY SEVENS SCORES ` the KIWI WOMEN HAVE JUST WON THEIR SEMI FINAL OVER ENGLAND BY 26 POINTS TO 5 AND WILL HEAD TO THE FINAL GOLD MEDAL MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA. IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MENS THEY'RE LIVE ON DUKE NOW. WE'LL BE BACK WITH THE SECOND HALF OF THE NETBALL JUST AFTER THE BREAK. New Zealand won the second quarter of this match, the bronze medal match against Jamaica. They trail by two. Jamaica over New Zealand. Third-quarter about to start. Interesting to listen to the huddle before the teams came out on court. They don't get too stressed out, the Jamaicans. They were having fun. 'Never drop your head,' was the call from the coach. 'Never give in.' One ball at a time, one player at a time. Enough of a distraction from Folau. Williams. Tthat is one of the statistics there ` Jamaica had 24 to 12. almost came even by halftime. Opportunity for the Silver Ferns. If you've just joined us, Francois left the court with an injury. Brilliant from Claire Kirsten. (WHISTLE BLOWS) intimidation. Call for intimidation. Haven't heard that one for a little while. We are even. Silver Ferns are calling themselves back. Jamaica are under some pressure. Almost a held ball. They have been comfortably in front throughout this match. By four in the first quarter. Now it is tied up. Aitken, in terms of her confidence in the shots, certainly won't be there. They will be thinking they need to bring Fowler-Reid back into the game. A good movement by Mes. Goalkeeper. Intentional contact. There is a tough call on Stirling. Good call by the umpire. What will that do to her confidence? New Zealand in front. Make that 32. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) never drop your head, said the coach. She was in the front group, and her head had dropped a bit. They will be pumped up by this. Great feed to Bailey Mes. Again. This is when we need Bailey Mes to nail the shots. Obvious things to say, but there's just so much more pressure on the rest of the team. Quick ball to Aiken. Jamaica can score so quickly when they have someone as towering as Aiken. 32 all. Going to a Jamaican leader if they get the rebound. In front. Yes. (WHISTLE BLOWS) (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) hung there for a long time. Jamaica are back in front. possession, goal shoot! Brilliant work from the Jamaican defenders. Angela Williams. *Vangelee Williams. What does that tell you about the rate of turnover? Brilliant work from Fakahokotau. Folau repays her work. Time to regain some confidence, this New Zealand team. Don't leave anything out on the court. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) this is the thing. Aiken is failing to nail the shots, but she has a brilliant ability to rebound. Goalshoot, at the line. Mes sitting at 63%. Folau, 21 from 29. Aiken, 9 from 13. Five from five. She is definitely playing the feeding role. Happy to stand on the outside and feed the ball into the shooters. Jamaica just as quickly as they lost the lead are back in front by two. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) (WHISTLE BLOWS) A real scrap going on. Kara and Ward. Rickett isn't even here. She has an illness and has stayed back in the team headquarters. She did start the match against Australia. Fakahokotau, that's it. Start putting some pressure on the feeders. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) a march of scoring from Jamaica. The confidence to turn and let the ball go. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Beckford. Doing what she needs to do. Six from six, Beckford. A brilliant pickup from Jamaica. Aiken with a long shot. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) confidence is growing. They have gone through a patch where they lost the lead to New Zealand, and now they lead by five. Bailey Mes coming through the top of the circle. Missed by her teammates. There she goes. Just brilliant. Sterling, she says she really admires Harrison, the New Zealand player. She shows traits of that. Building confidence now. Why wouldn't you when your teammate is down the other end producing some scintillating tips like that. Confidence at both ends of the court. Fakahokotau. Good work. The defence on the outside which allows that ball to go short to Aiken. That gave Fakahokotau the op. She couldn't find Folau or Mes. Ekenasio coming on to the court. Mes leaves the game, 12 from 20. Giving it what she could. Brilliant, Fakahokotau. Came right of the body, trying to confuse the space, then having a go for the intercept. Grant is up against it. Sshe had her fingers to the ball but the ball wasn't there. Grabbed it, one hand. (WHISTLE BLOWS) intentional obstruction. Where you are now. Good call. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Another for Folau. Pressure from Grant, pressuring every pass. That is what you need. Kirsten doing her best. Once you get the circle edge, it is so hard for the defenders on the inside. New Zealand has gone from being up by one to trailing by seven. This third quarter has really hurt them, like Australia yesterday. Folau. Good screen set by Ekenasio. Kersten, good hustle. Sterling. Goalkeeper, contact. It hasn't stopped her. She is still coming out and looking for the ball. You need to stand off the player.
