Form years our saltwater country has played host to all different mobs come here for dance, ceremony and sporting, petitions. It is field our community with pride is to hear our Yugambeh language spoken. In ancient times, you would carry a message stick from clan to clan and nation to nation. For more than 1.2 million spectators and hundreds of millions of people watching across the world, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be remembered for many reasons, but for a significant number of firsts that will set the standard for future games. Yes, there are open worlds and games records broken, each representing an extraordinary level of effort and achievement, but these games will also be remembered where for the first time there were equal numbers of middle events for women and men. (APPLAUSE) and these were the games that saw the full and authentic integration of para-athletes into the games program. And these were the games that saw a long overdue recognition of our indigenous people, founded on action and results and not just words. (APPLAUSE) inclusion is a commonwealth games future. It is what makes us extraordinary. From its beginning in Canada nearly 80 years ago, the games were always designed to be more than just a sporting spectacle. They are away for us to come together and share what we have in common. If you will excuse a gentle boast, I can think of no better place for that vision to be realised than here on the Gold Coast. These games will also be remembered for the efforts, passion and commitment of so many people. Firstly to the athletes. (APPLAUSE) athletes, you came here to fulfil your destiny is. You have moved and inspired us all with your sportsmanship, and the compassion you are shown each other.
