Has Daddy told you he's here to save the world? Bet he hasn't told you how he was planning on doing it. I don't know what you're talking about. Well, there's a big price to pay. Eliza? She's not here. If the Reapers have her, they'll only be taking her to one place. The city. There is no Eliza. What we need is a distraction ` something to draw the guards away from the entrance long enough for us to get inside. But what kind of distraction? A full-frontal assault. Eliza, can you hear me? That won't work ` not this time. I've decided it's time to take the gloves off. (SOBS) Find a dark and cold hole somewhere and throw her in it. (GENTLE FOOTSTEPS) (EERIE AMBIENCE) (PANTING) Hunter? Hunter? It's me, Ben. Ben? (GASPS) The hunt, the Reapers, they're` STUTTERS: Take it easy. Where is everybody? They're gone. They're all gone. No. (SOBS) We need to go before the Reapers decide to come back. They don't frighten me! Getting yourself killed isn't gonna bring any of them back. We need to go (PANTS) now. WHISPERS: Hurry. (WHIMPERS) ('THE CUL DE SAC' THEME) (GENTLE, EERIE MUSIC) (SILENCE) (EERIE MUSIC SLOWLY SWELLS) (MOUTHS) (EERIE SINGING) (MOUTHS) # Belinda Hopman's 'Fix Its (and Favours)' # The knocks on your skin # tell stories from within # but you want to keep them hidden. # Erasing the spots # so it looks like time stopped # but of course you have to go over the top. # We gotta fix you up # and spit you out. # They say! # Do it yourself with a little bit of magic. # Call in your flaws and we'll sort them out. # They say! # You're all numb, well, # so get used to it. (SIGHS) (SCREAMS) (FOREBODING AMBIENCE) Eyes on me. Really? Thought my day couldn't get any worse. I'm impressed. I've taken everything from you ` your sister, your brother, your entire family. I threw you in a dark hole to rot and somehow you're still fighting. Maybe I won't break you. Perhaps I should just kill you and get it over and done with. Oh, can you please? I'm really sick of listening to your voice. (DEEP SINISTER MUSIC) (RINGING AMBIENCE) (INHALES DEEPLY) (RUSHING NOISE) (SOUND CUTS OUT) Of course I'll break you. It's only a matter of time. You see, I have all the time in the universe, where you ` you feel every microsecond of passing time. That's what will eventually get you ` the insuppressible march of time. It'll make your mind snap. Why are you doing this? What do you want? I need your help to find your father before he does something terrible. Terrible? He wants to destroy you; that is a really, really good thing. Did he tell you how he was planning to do it? Yes. He's going to reset Prometheus and put everything back to the way it was before the Wave, before you. He's going to destroy everyone and everything, completely wipe out all of existence. That's a lie. He's been lying to you since the very beginning. He lied to you about his work. And then he abandoned you, Eliza and Tom... not just once, but again and again. He left you alone to deal with everything... the loss of your friends. Tom would be alive today if it wasn't for him. You accuse me of being a tyrant yet you can stand by and allow your father to decide everyone's fate? I wanna go back to my cell. What if I told you you could see Tom again? Tom's dead. In this reality, yes. But he exists elsewhere. I can create a place for you to be together again, live happily as if none of this ever happened. All you have to do is help me find your father. Well, if you're so powerful, why can't you find him yourself? I've tried. Something is blocking my sight. I don't know where he is. Let me show you something. The Reapers came, so we hid. You did good. Everybody get your things. We're leaving. I'm gonna stay and fight. Hunter, it's over. The Reapers have won. I say when it's over. I need you to help me get these kids to safety. I'm not asking. That's an order. I'm no damn babysitter. (SIGHS) Rest. We're leaving first thing in the morning. Well, come on. The Wave is coming. You've spent all these years running from it. Well, I've seen it consume thousands of people. I'll tell you a secret about the Wave. It's not death. Well, at least, it doesn't have to be. The Wave is a portal. It's a bridge between worlds. Those who know the secret and can focus their minds have the entire universe at their feet. You are one of those people, Rose. You have the power to use the Wave to find your father. All you have to do is think of him. That's nonsense. The human mind is a very powerful tool. It can change the way the universe behaves simply by observing it. Well, even if I did believe you, I don't think I could find Dad. His memory is fading and I'm beginning to forget his face. There are forces at work that are trying to stop you ` the same forces that are blocking my vision. There is a way to break through. Your father's journal. It's the one thing you still possess that connects you both. You can use it to focus in on him. Why would I help you? You sacrificed everything for your friends and family. And how does your father repay you? With death. This is your chance to be with your brother again. This is your chance to be happy. (SIGHS GENTLY) (POIGNANT MUSIC) (SNIFFLES) (INHALES DEEPLY) It's no use. I can't see his face. Don't let them win, Rose. (WIND HOWLS) (MELANCHOLY MUSIC) (THUNDER RUMBLES) (ENERGY CRACKLES) (WHOOSH!) (DISTANT BREATHING) There is no Eliza. What we need is a distraction ` something to draw the guards (GENTLE MUSIC) We'll rest here. (BAG UNZIPS) I'm glad you changed your mind. I didn't change my mind. As soon as you're all safely away, I'm heading back to the city. And then what? You can't possibly beat the Reapers. They're far too powerful. Then I will take as many down with me as I can. (SCOFFS) That is stupid. Brave but stupid. But my dad taught me never to run away from a fight. My brother taught me to never go into a fight you think you're going to lose. Now, I could sit here all day swapping family anecdotes, but we've got to keep moving. On your feet, you lot. There's a time to fight and there's a time to regroup and make a plan. Sounds like something Rose would have said. (HUFFS GENTLY) Let's go. (PREDATORY GROWL) (TENSE MUSIC) (KIDS CHATTER) What are you doing? Shut up. I said shut up. (ECHOES) Reapers. Off the track, go, go! WHISPERS: I knew it. (GRIM, POUNDING MUSIC) (PREDATORY GROWLS) (GROWLS) (BOW CREAKS) (FOOTSTEPS FADE) (EXHALES) That was pretty cool-headed for someone who never runs away from a fight. I'm not a loose cannon, stupid. Do you think they were looking for us? Probably just a random patrol, but... maybe I should stick around a bit longer, just in case. Just in case? (EERIE MUSIC) (WIND WHISTLES) (SHIVERS) (PANTS) (FOREBODING MUSIC) (DOOR CREAKS) (RINGING AMBIENCE) (ELECTRONIC CHIMING) (FOOTSTEPS) Dad! Don't mess with my head. It's` It's me. It's Rose. You're not real. Y-yes, I am. No, you're n` (SINISTER AMBIENCE) Rosebud. Sh`she's coming for you. She wanted me to betray you. She told me you'd lied. (AMBIENCE DRONES ON) Actually, I did lie to you, Rose. I'm here to destroy this world, not save it. All of this... It's happened before... over and over and over again like a bad record stuck on repeat. What do you mean? No one could have predicted this. It wasn't anyone's fault. (ELECTRONIC BEEPING, KEYS CLACK) (CHIMING) That'll work. 'When we first switched Prometheus on, there was a massive power surge. (ELECTRONIC HUMMING, ALARM BLARES) AUTOMATED VOICE: Warning, reactor meltdown imminent. It caused time to fold back in on itself, creating a temporal loop, a period of time where events repeat over and over again. Everything that has happened to you and your sister and brother has happened a thousand times before. (INSECTILE SQUEAK) (CHITTERING GROWL) (HOWLING) (RUSHING NOISE) (POPPERS CRACK) (SCREECHING) We harnessed energy from the Wave to create a portal that allowed us to travel between worlds. I tried to use Prometheus to alter history, reset time and break the loop. But it would just start all over again. (RAPID SNIPPETS OF SOUND) (SOUNDS SPEED UP) (SOUNDS BLEND TOGETHER) (RINGING SOUND FADES OUT) I've lost count of the number of times I've seen your brother die. It's time to put a stop to all of this. How? By destroying Prometheus. That'll create a gravity well that'll consume this entire plane of reality. So you're gonna kill us? I'm gonna end this once and for all. I'm setting you free. (ELECTRONIC AMBIENCE SWELLS) (AUDIO CUTS OUT) There is no Eliza. What we need is a distraction ` something to draw the guards 1 I'm shutting down the coolant systems. Without coolant, the reactors will overheat and explode. Don't do this. There's no other way. (ELECTRONIC CHIMING) (HAND SLAPS) (GASPS) Wh-What's wrong with you? You don't understand, Rose. You haven't seen what I've seen. I've lived it! Once! Not over and over and over. I can't go through it again. This isn't about us; this is about you. You've given up. You're a coward! P-Please. Please. Please don't do this, Dad. Please. (SOBS) No. (DEEP THROBBING HUM, ELECTRONIC ALERTS CHIME) It's done. (ALARM BLARES) AUTOMATED VOICE: Warning, cooling systems offline. Reactor meltdown imminent. Dad, what's your password? Please. (ALARM AND WARNING CONTINUE) (EXPLOSION) (GENTLE, SWELLING MUSIC) (ALARM AND WARNING FADE) (AFFIRMATIVE CHIME) (PANTS) (DISTANT EXPLOSION) (EXPLOSION, RATTLING) (FRANTIC ELECTRONIC BEEPS) (AFFIRMATIVE CHIME) (ALARM STOPS) Cooling systems rebooting. (SIGHS) (ELECTRONIC BEEPING, RUMBLING) (ALARM RESUMES) Warning, cooling systems compromised. Reactor meltdown imminent. (EXPLOSION) We gotta get out of here. There's nowhere to run. GROWLS: On your feet. (GRUNTS) (EXPLOSION) (DEEP RUMBLING) (SEARING AMBIENCE) (WIND HOWLS) (AMBIENCE FADES) (TENSE MUSIC) (DISTANT RUMBLING) (THUNDER CRACKS) The Wave? (THUNDER CRACKS) No. Something different. This is... Come on. We've gotta get inside. (THUNDER RUMBLES) Come on, everybody. Inside. (THUNDER CRACKS) (DEEP RUMBLING) (EERIE MUSIC) (BESTIAL GROWL) (GRUNTS) (POUNDING BEAT) (REAPERS GROWL) (WIND HOWLS FEROCIOUSLY) (CONSTANT RUMBLING) (GRUNTS) (PANTS) (ENERGY CRACKLING) (EXPLOSION) (SEARING MUSIC SWELLS) (MUSIC RINGS OUT) (GASPS) (PANTING) # Matisse Reynolds and Carlo Marinovichs' 'Sunshine And Rain' Captions by John Gibbs.
