I'm really not sure why I'm single. I might be setting my standards too high. I've been on so many dates, even, that I can't even count. I've never been in love. I've dated a few boys, but it didn't really eventuate into anything. What brings you to Married at First Sight? I do wanna share my life with somebody. I've tried all sorts of things ` dating sites, et cetera. I live such a busy lifestyle. I kind of need your help to find me someone to kind of fit in with that lifestyle. It's clear that we have a large section of the population who are lonely. I 100% get lonely. Finding someone in Auckland is so difficult. With relationships now, there's a real strong sense of immediacy ` it needs to happen now. I've tried Tinder, Bumble... It gets to a point where it's almost emotionally draining. The problem is, I think, they're isolating themselves and they're actually not getting out and meeting people. I just, sort of, rock up to every wedding and walk out the door by myself again. I don't want 17 girlfriends. I want that one person. The best way forward to find authentic love, is reflected beautifully in this social experiment ` Married at First Sight. My name is Tony Jones and I'm a counsellor specializing in relationships with both individuals and couples. I'm Dr Trisha Stratford, both a clinical psychotherapist and also neuro-psychotherapist. My name is Stephanie Dowse. For the last 25 years I've been specializing in couples' counselling. We know that chemicals are involved in love, but it's not just all about chemicals. It takes a very special person to get married at first sight. The condensed version of a relationship. Hi, nice to meet you. Hi, how are ya? I'm Brett. BRETT: Married At First Sight was amazing for us, really ` how we met each other. Aw, that was nice. We kinda never dreamed it was possible, but, yeah, here we are. We've had the happiest ending that we could have. Yeah, well sort of in the process of buying our first house together, we definitely want to get a family in the future, and get some kids one day. TONY: We're not looking for a six-weeks dating program. We're not looking for somebody that's gonna be gone in two months. We're looking for their life partner. Even if the first impression isn't there, I'd like to think that both of us can work together to find out what it is that makes us click. I'm really excited to meet him. Oh, shit, she's gorgeous. (STIRRING MUSIC BUILDS) NERVOUSLY: Hi. NARRATOR: 12 singles... (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) ...and six marriages. # I'm getting married. # We'll fast-track their relationships through honeymoons,... Looks incredible. I think these experts got it spot on. He is actually amazing. Almost too good to be true. ...home stays,... (SCREAMS) I just don't know how they're compatible. ...and time with the in-laws. The language barrier is a little bit tricky. It's going to take a little bit of digestion. Who will find love... Can't believe we just did this. We're married. Are we gonna share a bed? ...when married.... You're gonna meet your future husband. ...at first sight? You all right, mate? He's not gonna spew, is he? Yes! That's not the bride? Copyright Able 2018 Step one ` Buy a SodaStream. Step two ` Save up to 2000 bottles a year by using one reusable bottle. Step three ` Planet saved. I'm particularly excited and really like to kick this off with looking at Fraser. Fraser, he's got a huge amount of energy. He's got a really, really strong extrovert personality. My name's Fraser Pearce. I'm 27 years old, and I currently am a policy analyst for a government agency, here in Wellington. I would 100% call myself a nerd, and I'm proud of it, like, it's who I am. I know so many good people, either through board games, video games, card games, choir. (VOCALISES) The sort of songs that we're singing is about space, there's something from a video game. It's just absolute nerdgasm. SINGS GRANDLY: # That's rain, and it's probably the shower. # I had a life plan about five or six years ago, that I would've thought that I would've been married by now. I dated someone a while ago, and I was at a stage where I thought I was ready to marry them. She ended things. That sort of thing takes a lot of time to get over. I know what being in love is like and from one to 10 about how excited I'm on Married At First Sight, I would say... 13.2. Fraser, in particular, he's got a lot of positivity, and the values that he's brought through are quite consistent with somebody in particular. Let me guess. Monique? Monique. They have so much in common. Mm-hm. And, I think, the fact that they're both really are on the experiment for the right reasons ` they want to settle down, they want to have a family. And I noticed that she absolutely loves having someone around too that makes her loved. What are your thoughts, Trish? Well, interesting couple. They're very conservative, aren't they? They're a lovely conservative couple. They match on many levels, and I agree ` they're both really resilient. I like the optimism, so I think, they've got a good shot ` these two. (STIRRING MUSIC) I've never been in love. (CHUCKLES) No. I've dated a few boys, but didn't really eventuate into anything, like, I didn't really` wasn't really feeling it. And, yeah, now I'm here. I'd like to feel the love for somebody, like, how I do for my best friends and family, but in, like, a romantic sense. I want someone that's open-minded and wants to try new things with me, someone that is funny and can have a laugh with me. If they don't wanna have children in the long term, that would be a deal breaker for me, because I'm extremely clucky. (LAUGHS) Because I hang out with kids all day, like, that's my job. Yeah, I think I've, like, wanted to have a kid since I was a kid. So, yes, very clucky, like, 100%. (LAUGHS) I'm at Riccarton Market, where my family is working and I'm going to surprise them with the news, that I'm getting married to a stranger next week. Hi. Oh, hi, what are you doing? Just thought I'd come and hang out. Slash, I actually have something that I need to tell you guys. Um... MUM: OK, yeah? You know how I entered Married At First Sight a while ago. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yep. So, get ready for the wedding, because, um, yeah. Oh my God, Monique, that is brilliant. Brilliant. (SQUEALS) (LAUGHS) Show me. I've lost the plot. I am absolutely blown away. I'm just absolutely gobsmacked and I'm really proud of her. When? When? When? It's next Monday. Next Monday?! Oh my God. Yeah. Oh my God. Yeah... (CHUCKLES) Oh my God. Next Monday?! (MONIQUE LAUGHS) Aw, congratulations. Who is he? I don't know. (LAUGHS) You don't know?! Oh, OK. I'm just a bit shocked. OK. (CHUCKLES) Right, OK. I'll just give you a moment. I'll just give you a moment to... I'll just give you a moment to process. (CRICKETS CHIRP) Oh... I am quite nervous about telling my dad. He is a Jehovah's Witness, and Jehovah's witnesses are quite a more conservative branch of Christian. I really hope I don't give him a heart attack. Hello, Fraser. Hello, old man. How is everything up at there? Oh, we're all good. Ah, excellent. I have, um, some news to share with you, Dad. Yeah? I'm gonna be on Married at First Sight. (BELL TOLLS, HEARTBEAT THUMPS) (DRAMATIC MUSIC) In Wellington, Fraser's breaking the news to his father that he's about to marry a complete stranger. I have, um, some news to share with you, Dad. Yeah? I'm gonna be on Married at First Sight. (GUFFAWS) That is not quite how we envisaged the first boy's marriage. I must admit I'm rather dumbstruck. (LAUGHS) I have to ask, Dad, do you support me in this decision? I mean it's still a marriage. (LAUGHS NERVOUSLY) SLOWLY: Yes. Yeah. (CHUCKLES AWKWARDLY) Um... What happens if it goes wrong? Whatever happens, we just want the best for you, Fraser. That's the main thing. Thanks, Dad. I really appreciate that. And it is a serious thing. You gotta remember that. It's the way I'd treat it. I love you lots. I love you too, Fraser. (BOTH CHUCKLE) Oh my goodness gracious. (LAUGHS) (TRAFFIC HUMS) So, I'm gonna go grab you trousers and a shirt to start off with, Awesome. ...and then we'll go from there. Cool? Thank you. I'm feeling pretty nervous about this entire thing. It's sort of gradually getting bigger and bigger, and I think, like any wedding, it's normal to feel nervous. But, in this case, I've not met her and she's not meet me. (SWEEPING ROMANTIC MUSIC) You look beautiful. It's so pretty. Aw! You look gorgeous. Aw. Gorgeous as. Picking out my dress was pretty crazy. It's not something that I was like really thinking about doing. Do you love it? Do you feel pretty? Um, I think so. Yeah. (CHUCKLES) Yeah. I dunno. I really like it. It hasn't really felt real until literally, like, this second. At first it was, like, excitement here, nerves here, but now, it's kinda like, nerves here, and, like, excitement here. I'm nervous about going up the aisle and then, like, his reaction to me. I'm probably the most nervous about that. Who thought dressing up could be so much fun? I'm really excited to see what my bride will look like. It's all a mystery. I mean, I would really like for them to two legs. I mean, that's a good start. And, you know, two of everything... when that's the normal number of things to have. CHUCKLES: That is a terrible thing to say. Damn, I look awesome. My mum's gonna have kittens. (CHUCKLES) The ideal woman for me ` pretty strong eyebrows. I'm attracted to just the normal body shape, so I don't mind if they've got a few curves. I often go for kinda the cute, a little bit geeky that confident boy... man. (CHUCKLES) Oh, you look so sexy. (CHUCKLES) I absolutely cannot wait for the day. (POIGNANT CELLO MUSIC) And all too soon, Monique and Fraser's wedding day is here. Cheers. Cheers. (CHUCKLES) Ooh, boy. Yeah. I am getting married... Yeah. ...in two hours' time. I am feeling everything. It's hitting me, but it's hitting me in a good way. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am really excited and really nervous. Yeah. (EXCLAIMS) HIGH-PITCHED: What have I done? How are you feeling about it? I'm excited. I'm supportive of her big adventure ` a plunge into the unknown. I am very proud. I just really hope he's just, like, really kind. As long as he's like really kind. I hope he doesn't have like a real set-in-stone image of, like, the girl that he wants, like, cos then he might not get that person. (CHUCKLES) Like, I'm not that bad, but I'm definitely not your typical, like, yeah, beauty, like, person, no. But, like, I'm a good friend, so I hope I make a good partner. (HEART-WARMING MUSIC) All the uncertainty. This is gonna be the person that I could spend the rest of my life with. My biggest fear is that the person that I'm matched up with doesn't find me attractive, doesn't find me interesting and just doesn't really wanna be with me. Nearly there. Be another four minutes. At the end of the day, I'm looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with, and I'm ready for that. What a day... # to get married! # I really hope that my wife likes the gift I got her. Oh my God, they're so nice! OK, this is real now. 'Thanks for doing the thing.' 'Dear, future wife...' Well, good punctuation so far. (ALL LAUGH) 'Today's that lucky day where you get married to me, or is it the other way around...' Ooh, funny. Sense of humour. Oh my God, what the hell am I actually doing with my life? I think now it's starting to feel a bit more real, especially because of the card that he just gave me. I'm really excited to meet him. And I hope that he, like, doesn't have really high expectations. (CHUCKLES) I don't want his expectations to be like lowered when he sees me, like, hopefully he's pleased to see me and hopefully I'm pleased to see him. 'I just wanted to give you a little something before we meet to show my appreciation for this 'courageous step you're about to take with me.' Oh my God, I think I'm in love with him because he used the right 'you're'. (ALL LAUGH) (ALL GASP) That's really nice. It's beautiful. Really good start. Yeah, definitely. He did good. Like, he did really well. FRASER: Oh, far out. Ah, it looks lovely. Nope! Oh, boy. It is happening. (TENSE MUSIC) (GUESTS CHATTER INDISTINCTLY) (TENSE MUSIC CONTINUES) (STIRRING MUSIC) (MUSIC INTENSIFIES) I'm not quite sure how I'd react if my new wife and I are not each other's cup of tea. (TENSE MUSIC) WOMAN: Oh my God. Is that him? (WOMAN WHISTLES) (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) (EXHALES) (GUESTS LAUGH) Did you know I'm getting married? (LAUGHS) Yeah, I did. Oh my God. Don't cry! Don't cry. Oh my God. You look nice! You are` Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh, hi. Don't be` How you feeling? I'm feeling actually quite fine. You're standing on the dress! Oh! (LAUGHS) All right, let's do this. You look amazing. Thank you. They did a good job on me. Yeah. (CHUCKLES) Oh my gosh, this is actually happening. I'm about to marry someone that I've never met before, so, yeah. Whoo, let's just do that. OK. (CHUCKLES AWKWARDLY) Hello, I'm Fraser, by the way. Yeah, I know all these people. We go way back (!) Way back. It's a possibility that she is jarred from initial reaction that he does turn to humour too much. Remember to breathe, Fraser. (TENSE MUSIC) Yeah, I'm really, really scared right now. (LAUGHS) There's that undercurrent of 'what if?' What if she doesn't like how I look? What happens if she thinks I'm just a massive nerd? I'm a dork and I wouldn't want for that to be a sort of tension. So, you all right? Yeah! Just... yeah. Just get it done. Oh my goodness, this is absolutely mental. (MAN LAUGHS) God, this is mental. Yes! (GUESTS LAUGH AWKWARDLY) That's not the bride? (LAUGHS) Damn it. (GUESTS LAUGH) (TENSE MUSIC) (BELL TOLLS, HEARTBEAT THUMPS) (TENSE MUSIC) Yes! (GUESTS LAUGH AWKWARDLY) That's not the bride? (LAUGHS) Damn it. (GUESTS LAUGH) Ah! (LAUGHS) I kind fluffed it a little bit. (STAMMERS) Is that the` Is that the bride? No that's-that's, not the bride. (GUESTS MURMUR QUIETLY) (CHUCKLES) Oh my gosh, I'm tripping up a little bit. (LAUGHS) (GUESTS LAUGH) Oh my God. (LAUGHS) (TENSE MUSIC) NARRATOR: Our experts are about to match the next two singles who are willing to meet for the first time at the altar. OK, for this next couple, I'd really like to explore one match in particular. Can we have a look at Wayne? (BLUESY ROCK MUSIC) My name is Wayne Anthony Mackintosh, I'm 32 years old from Taranaki, and I'm a helicopter engineer. And my father passed away saving my life in a jet ski accident. I was very young. We were at the beach on Christmas holidays and we ended up falling off a jet ski. It malfunctioned and kept going. We were very far out in the ocean and by the time help arrived, they chucked us both on a boat, went to shore, and cos my mom's a nurse, she started to perform CPR on him, but unfortunately, he passed away. And it was very traumatic for, I think, everyone involved, including my mum. I owe her my whole life. She's the angel. So, I felt that I'd need to cram as much adventure and excitement into my life, cos you don't know when it's gonna end. I'm committing so much of my heart to the process. I just hope that someone else is there committed the same as what I am. I think it would be good opportunity for us to challenge a type, so Wayne's type he's described being a small, petite, blonde, that's usually younger than him. And initially that was a little bit of a barrier in terms of finding the most compatible match for Wayne. One individual in particular I'm really keen to hear your thoughts. Ksenia. Mm. That brings quite an energy that I think Wayne would be quite receptive to. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHS) (LAUGHS) My concern here is that if she doesn't like him, she's not gonna be bothered to try and find out about him. Mm-hm. I think` Cos she's quite black and white in her ideas and her thinking. Well, he is a self-declared romantic, and that's the other positive thing. She wants someone that she can go and feed the ducks with, she wants someone that will spend quality time with her. That's her love language. And I think he might be able to deliver. In Auckland, Ksenia is about to break the news to her closest friends. I wonder why we're all here. (LAUGHS) Maybe she's leaving New Zealand. I hope not. (LAUGHS) Hi! Hey! I've got big news to tell you guys. I'm getting married. Oh my God. (SCATTERED LAUGHTER) Are you joking? I cannot believe it. Who is he? I don't know. (LAUGHS) I'm marrying a total stranger. I'm worried about the guy, obviously. So, how do you feel about all this going on? I feel happy, I feel excited, and I'm looking forward. (ALL EXCLAIM) I don't think they're scared or nervous and I'm not scared or nervous at all. It's fun. Why not? (COW MOOS) Yeah, mate. Hey, guys. How you going? Hi! Marcus. Taco Tuesday, eh? Tacos, mate. The friends are all very much getting on with their lives. They've all got partners, married or engaged. I just, sort of, rock up to every wedding and have fun and walk out the door by myself again. It's time to just man up and be the groom and take the number one spot and go with it. The reason that I've invited you guys here tonight is... I'm getting married next Tuesday. Oh my God. (LAUGHS) Are you serious? Didn't think you were that desperate, mate. (LAUGHTER) Who is it? I've never met her. I don't even know her. I meet her when she comes down the aisle. Have you told your mum? Is she OK with this whole stranger situation? No, she literally said` she goes, 'Oh, it's so something you would do.' It's so crazy to have Taco Tuesday and this gets announced. I feel like we need to interview her first. (LAUGHS) Hopefully she's chilled, eh, not to serious. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cos Wayne's pretty down to earth. He's, yeah, a lot of fun. I think he's got the best personality. Like, he wears his heart on his sleeve. If anyone's gonna give it 100%, it's gonna be Wayne. ALL: Cheers Wayne! (BOTTLES CLINK) Congratulations. Wow. It's amazing. Beautiful. I feel now very excited. I am absolutely in love with the dress. I hope I'll be in love with my future husband. Do you think my future husband will like it? Like your dress? Everything. (LAUGHS) He better be. (LAUGHS) Yes, there's no choice. (laughs) I'd like to settle down and have family and children if we love each other, if we're happy. Yeah, I would love that. Well, I think that's definitely the one. Hi, Jo. I'm Wayne. Nice to meet you. I'm here for a suit today. Oh, don't worry. We've got you sorted. Cool. Just gonna go for something navy blue and something light on the bottom. Sweet. I know exactly what to show you. I'm so excited every day to wake up next to someone. As long as the love's reciprocated, I'll be happy as. My deal breakers probably have to be just people who think their shit don't stink and just put 'emself on a platform where they're better than other people without actually knowing 'em. All right, and I popped a white pocket square in this too for you. Today ` getting my suit fitted up. Everything's sort of hit home that it is real and we're actually gonna go through the whole process and potentially find the love of my life. Yep, great. I love it. The wedding day has now arrived, and it's just a matter of hours before our two singles meet for the first time at the altar. I'm thinking he's got a nice last name. (CHUCKLES) Yeah, that's very important. Yeah. (CHUCKLES) I've had a few relationships in the past. We still on a good terms. We're still friends. WOMAN: Any heartbreaks? Ah, what, mine? (LAUGHS) Are you going to teach him Russian? (LAUGHS) Oh, he definitely will learn some Russian. Yeah. (LAUGHS) Like (SPEAKS RUSSIAN, LAUGHS) Yeah. (SPEAKS RUSSIAN, LAUGHS) That's probably the first one he's gonna learn. (LAUGHTER) Ksenia? Yes. So, what's your deal breakers? (QUIRKY MUSIC) If he's bald. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHTER) You think he's going to be old and bald? (LAUGHS) Yeah. (LAUGHS) But he still likes feeding the ducks. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHS) WAYNE: (EXHALES HEAVILY) there's gonna be a lot of deep breathing today. I've known you for 25 years, and you're generally a pretty cool customer. I don't think I've ever seen you like this. You're petrified, mate. We're here, doing it and getting ready, and I still don't believe what's actually going on. I'm actually going through all the raw emotions pretty heavily. So just nervous and couldn't sleep and all that sort of stuff. It's all pretty hard for me to cope with, because I'm normally pretty in control of my emotions and what's going on, and this is just something new, so... I'm just trying to deal with it. Obviously everything that I've picked previously hasn't worked, so... I mean there's a common denominator there, isn't there? (LAUGHS) (LAUGHS) This is like the biggest thing that's happened to me. All the emotions and the feelings that I would go through is the most biggest roller coaster I've ever been on. All right, mate. It's that time. What do you reckon? Come on. We'd better go and get ready. Let's do it. Previous times, like, I've done something really cool, I've always wanted someone there to be with me, and you sort of look around and there's no one there. So... I'm looking forward to having someone to share experiences with in life. You'll need these. (LAUGHS) Yes. Thank you. (GLASSES CLINK) Wow! (GASPS) Oh, you look gorgeous, my dear. Ksenia. It's very beautiful. Oh, you're so beautiful. Hopefully you're never going to wear another wedding dress again, and you're going to meet the man of your dreams. There's definitely no going back in those heels. (LAUGHTER) All right, big fella. You're in charge of these today. All right, mate. Let me see 'em. I think, today, it's life-changing. And I'm not scared for that; I'm excited for that. I'm just hoping it all goes good and everyone falls in love. I'm absolutely petrified of what's about to happen. All right, mate. Let's get ready to do it. No, hold on a sec. What? I think I'm having, like, a heart attack. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) You all right? Why don't you sit down for a bit? (BELL TOLLS, HEARTBEAT THUMPS) I just got an unexplainable sharp pain in my chest. Are you serious or what? Yeah. Well, sit down, mate. No, I'm all right. Let's just do this. Are you sure? (BLEEP) that was odd. It's just nerves, mate. I'm just so nervous. You'll be right. We were really worried when he started clutching at his chest, because you could tell that he was serious. I mean he's a bit of a joker, but I've never seen him this nervous. You know? Anything could happen today, I think. All right, mate. Best of luck. (CHUCKLES) I am putting my heart on the line, and I'm potentially very, very vulnerable to getting hurt. How you feeling? I've felt better. When you've sang in musicals and stuff in high school, you never looked this nervous. Because I knew what musical it was. Yeah. I don't exactly know what wife I'm getting. Yeah. So it could be Cinderella or it could be Little Shop of Horrors. (LAUGHS) You just don't know. The one thing that I really want for Wayne and the one thing I want out of his new wife is just for her to be open minded. This could be the final drive toward a wife and kids. She could have kids. Never know. Six or seven of them. (LAUGHS) Are you all right, mate? He's not gonna spew is he? Oh mate. I think my biggest concern for Wayne is that he will fall really deeply for this new woman in his life and she may not feel the same way. So you're gonna meet your future husband. He better have a nice last name. Yeah. (LAUGHS) Physical attraction is important when trying to build a connection, but it's not imperative. That can come later. The connection really is based on, can I trust this person? Do we have similar views on things? Is this someone that I feel I really want to get to know more? (LAUGHS) I know, I know. Aw. Are you gonna kiss each other? Would you say yes? If he's not a frog. (LAUGHS) (SMOOCHES) I'm just about to get married. Ooh! Come on, be brave! (LAUGHS) I know, I know. I'm still feeling very positive, and I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to whatever the future will bring. I hope he's the one, and I hope I'm the one for him. How are you this morning, Morgan? I'm better than Wayne, I can tell ya. (LAUGHS) Oh. (LAUGHS) This has just been him all morning. (LAUGHS) Oh no. Sometimes he'll sit there and stare at the roof. (LAUGHS) (APPLAUSE) (EXHALES HEAVILY) I'm not after a physical attraction. I just wanna see a pretty big smile and just be happy and know that she's in a good frame of mind doing this. WAYNE'S MUM: I was just thinking he's gonna have a ring on his finger and... old married man (LAUGHS) (APPLAUSE) TONY: With the ceremony itself, there'll be an absolute flooding of emotion. There'll be fear, anxiety, excitement, and an absolute anticipation of the next few moments. I'm not always this ugly. It's cos I haven't slept. I get better in the afternoon. I gotta say my mind was very blank, because we're both so overwhelmed with all her family's presence and just the spotlight on me. It was very intimidating. (GENTLE MUSIC) (MUSIC SWELLS) (TENSE MUSIC) (LAUGHS NERVOUSLY) (MONIQUE LAUGHS) MONIQUE: Oh, wait. I'm tripping up a little bit. Oh my God. (LAUGHS) (GRAND MUSIC SWELLS) Hi! Hello! Oh, you're really tall. Good afternoon and welcome, everyone, to the wedding ceremony of Fraser and Monique. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) I was too nervous to, like, look him in the eye. (LAUGHS) Please don't run away. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHTER) 'I think she likes my sense of humour. I can tell we're gonna get along really well.' So do you, Fraser, take Monique to be your friend and partner in crime? Will you promise to cherish and respect her, to care and protect her, to comfort and encourage her and walk alongside her no matter what? Yes. Oh, um, I do. I do. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHTER) (LAUGHS) Do you Monique` Oh. Sorry. (LAUGHTER) (EXHALES) Do you, Monique, take Fraser, to be your friend and partner in crime? Will you promise to cherish and respect him, to care and protect him, to comfort and encourage him and walk alongside him no matter what? 'I can tell she's a little bit nervous.' I just wanted to give her a big hug and let her know everything's gonna be OK. I do. I do. Ta-da! Nice. It's really pretty! Fraser and Monique, I now declare you both husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride and now wife. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) I think the kiss went well, but I didn't want, like, a big kiss, but I didn't want just, like, a grandma peck either, so I was, like, right bang in between. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) I'm really stoked, cos that was something that definitely, definitely worried me. We've got this. Don't worry. (LAUGHS) I'm married now. Lord. Yeah. Yep. Oh my God. Yep. Yep. I'm married now. Yeah, might` should probably go talk to my husband. I feel like I should do that. (CHUCKLES) You know? So, guys, I need you to hold her around her waist. OK. Let me put my hand, like, there. OK. The wedding photos create a little bubble where our couples are actually forced into a small, physical space with one another. You will look at your flowers. OK. That's where they're gonna have to touch one another. So, here? Perfect. Yeah. You also smell really nice. Oh, that's good. I think it's hair spray. They're gonna have to look into each other's eyes. Oh, we're very close too. (LAUGHS) They're gonna have to certainly simulate, 'We're in love.' It's exactly where they asked us to be. Yeah. So it's play-acting at the very, very early stages. But it would be fantastic if this play-acting actually turned into reality. It would be great for them. OK. Perfect. Ooh, you just went in for that. OK. (LAUGHS) You weren't expecting that one. No. 'Standing next to someone that I've literally met five minutes ago,' I am already feeling that there's some sort of connection between us. OK. All right. Done? This is completely out of body. (LAUGHS) I don't feel like myself right now, like, at all. (BELL TOLLS, HEARTBEAT THUMPS) Hi. Hi. Hello. Oh, congratulations. Oh my God. Friends and family are crucial to the longevity of a relationship. They can either make it or break it. I feel like you guys are honestly like the boy and girl version of each other. The sense of humour is, like identical. That's creepy. 'Amazing' is the word you're looking for. I think that the experts have maybe matched me with someone who is, like, very similar to me. (LAUGHS) Hopefully that's a good thing. I'm sure it is a good thing. I wouldn't really know. I've never really dated someone that's, like, exactly the same as me, so... yeah. Do I get all the dirt on Monique? Not yet! (LAUGHTER) Yeah, she is bossy. You'll find that one out. Look at her. 'Not yet.' (LAUGHS) Fraser seems real cool. He looks like he's quite like my sister with, like, dorky jokes, and they look like they've been together for years. Screams at you, yeah. Most of our individuals have expressed how important their family and friends are. There's a real pressure on each of the individuals to put their best foot forward and to show the best version of them to each of their families. MONIQUE'S DAD: That was so cool. It was. Thank you. How you feeling? Oh, I'm stoked. (LAUGHS) Your daughter's got such a great smile. It's... Aww. My friends and family are, like, in love with him. Yeah. Like, couldn't have asked for a better reaction from them and, like, a better person to come into my like family and friendship group. I hope they don't all clap. It'll be, like... They're totally gonna clap. I'm so sorry. Oh they're not. Oh, no, they're not. They're not. Oh, shit. No, they are. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) 'I'm just feeling, like, really overwhelmed and, like, flustered. 'I don't feel like myself right now, like, at all. (CHUCKLES SOFTLY)' Ooh. OK. To my new family and my beautiful wife. GUESTS: Aww. I'm a goofy bureaucrat, and it's kind of clear that that's the case. I love board games, card games and video games. I'm also an aspiring beach babe. (ALL LAUGH) But more seriously, I am here for the right reasons. Thank you all for being here. I really look forward to sharing this journey with you all and especially you. I've always liked the idea that I can meet someone that is better than me. I think she's definitely gonna be a contender for that. Well done. No, that was really good. (GLASSES CLINK) (WARM MUSIC) Stop looking people in the eye. Don't. You don't have to look at any of them. I'm not gonna look at anyone else. 'I think the experts have done really well so far.' I'm so out of time. (LAUGHS) I'll lead. I'll lead. I can't wait to actually find out more about who she is. I can't wait! Do you want to try? No. Do you want to? Why not? No, no, no, no. Oh! (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) 'I'm a sucker for a good smile, and she's got it in spades.' 'Oh, I don't know. (LAUGHS) I don't know. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. (LAUGHS)' (CAR ENGINE STARTS) Do you look this good normally? (LAUGHS) This is slightly... nerve-racking, but it's gonna be really cool that the person that I'm going to sleep to and waking up next to is my wife. Whoa. We're here. Yeah, we did it. 'I really don't want anything to happen tonight. 'Like I'd already decided, like way before that I wouldn't do anything on the first night.' Happy to share a bed, not doing any activities. I already planned that about, like, four weeks ago. I` No, that's cool. Excellent. I'm excellently in mind with that, cos I don't wanna do anything on the first night cos` Zero activities. 'For me, I don't want to put any pressure on her.' I would prefer that we get to know each other first before anything like that happens. OK, cool. No, we've got that sorted. Yeah. Ah! Oh my God. I think I know what this is. Ah! What is it? READS: Monique and Fraser, don't unpack your bags. Tomorrow, you are traveling with AirAsia to Bali where you will meet the other newlyweds. Yay! Yes! I didn't know any of that. I'm really` Yes! What the hell? We are going to Bali tomorrow, so I'm like absolutely, like, super pumped about that. Awesome! 'I think the experts have done really well so far. I can tell that we're both insane people.' And I think that this is just the first day of many to come. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Awesome. Holy shit. She's gorgeous. Hi. I'm Wayne. (LAUGHTER) Ksenia. I don't know if we kiss or we hug or what we do, but... (EXHALES) 'It was surreal. Like, this has been months of excitement built up into one moment.' I was just happy. I just seen her smile and I was just like, "OK, cool." That gave me rest assurance. You're very pretty. Thank you. You're very tall. This is good. We're doing well. It's heels. Oh, OK. So, yeah, I'm usually a bit shorter. (LAUGHS) Well if I need anything out of the pantry you can... (LAUGHTER) 'Her physical appearance was amazing. She's a 10. She's just... Yeah, I was very happy.' Ksenia, Wayne. Wayne, Ksenia. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. What`? Where you from? (DRAMATIC NOTE) Tomorrow night ` a marriage made in heaven? Um... Our experts match the next couple. It looks really beautiful. I'm getting married. Oh my word. Finally found someone to marry me. (LAUGHS) Tattoos are skin-deep. And later ` the happy couples honeymoon in Bali, working on sun tans and relationships. He told me yesterday that I was cold blooded. WAYNE: I'm unsure whether she's giving it 100%. (BELL TOLLS, HEARTBEAT THUMPS) Captions by Starsha Samarasinghe and Julie Taylor. www.able.co.nz Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air.
