NZ woman Anna Williams' love of an Iranian tribe and their dying art and culture leads to a surprise invitation from Sir David Attenborough. We follow New Zealander Anna Williams – the only known carpet repairer in New Zealand – on one of her many pilgrimages to Iran, where she stays with nomadic Qashqai and learns from their famous weavers. In The Kiwi, the Knight & the Qashqai, Anna Williams sets off on what could be her last trip. She has cancer. The documentary takes us to a community in Iran seldom visited by foreigners. Here Anna discovers that many young Qashqai do not want to weave or carry on their traditions, preferring to give up the nomadic life in tents to look for jobs in the cities. In London, Anna visits Sir David Attenborough who, some 40 years ago, made a BBC film about this famous tribe and their beautiful traditionally-woven rugs. With his fine memory and sharp wit, David and Anna share an engaging conversation about their shared interest; the remarkable Qashqai.
