Get ready for a series of escalating rounds, where we test our players on maths, memory, Te Reo, spelling and more before it all leads up to this ` the Brain Buster. Malo e lelei, everyone. The one and only Mikey Falesiu, the king of this ultimate obstacle course, where mental ability and physical agility combine in a winners take all prize finale. Thanks, Mikey, and don't forget, you can play and win from home as well, so let's meet today's Brain Busters! Captions by Annie Curtis. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Thank you so much for joining us today, as four more players battle it out to see if they have what it takes to become the Brain Buster. But first, they need to tackle their specialist subject from our six options and score enough points to avoid elimination and stay in the game. So let's meet our players now, starting with Megan. A very warm welcome to the game. Now, I hear you're a keen violin player. How long have you been playing for? I've been playing for eight years. Excellent, and what kind of music do you love to play? Irish jigs. Lovely stuff. Well, good luck to you in the game. Next up, we have Jenna. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. Hear you're a bit of an actor. What is it you love about acting? Uh, I just love performing in general. Excellent, well, hopefully that can help you take out Brain Busters today. Another actor, right into his musicals, is Jack. Jack, what's your favourite? Oh, Bohemian Rhapsody? Keen on your sport as well. What do you play? Hockey and I'm keen to do rowing. Excellent, and last but not least, we do have Cambell. Kia ora. Thank you so much for joining us. Keen league man. Yeah. Who are we supporting when we're watching league? Uh, mostly Queensland,... (SUCKS TEETH) ...if they play, but yeah. I hope we don't have too many Blues supporters out there watching then today. Yeah. Good luck to you, Cambell. So we have met all of our players, and it is time to get into our first round, and it's going to be a 90 second general knowledge buzz in quiz, so this is Mega Memory. For every correct answer, you will gain 10 points. For every incorrect answer, you will lose 10 points. Good luck to all of you. Your time starts... now. In which country is the Eiffel Tower located? Paris. Nah. (CHUCKLES) (BUZZER SOUNDS) France. In which musical do orphans sing the song Food, Glorious Food? Megan. Jamie Oliver. Oliver Twist. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Oliver. In astronomy, Matariki is the name of a group of what? Jenna? Stars. (DING!) What type of luxury timepieces are made by Rolex? Jenna. Watches. (DING!) In the 1933 movie named after him, which gigantic ape climbed the Empire State Building? Campbell. King Kong. (DING!) Who won lots of awards for her pop song Hello? Jenna? Adele. (DING!) Which New Zealand brand of supermarkets features a cartoon shopkeeper called Cheeky Charlie? Jack. Oh... pass. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Four Square. Which animated show features Homer, Marge` Jenna. The Simpsons. (DING!) Isaac Newton is said to have thought of gravity when what fruit fell on` Megan. An apple. (DING!) The ball and stick game called hurling is the national past-time of which country? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Time up. Ireland. How many days are in a fortnight? Campbell? 14. (DING!) In the Dr Seuss story, what did the Grinch try to steal? Cambell. Christmas. (DING!) In which country is the world's tallest building located` (ALARM SOUNDS) I started so I'll finish. In which country is the world's tallest building located, Dubai's Burj Khalifa? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Out of time. The correct answer there was the United Arab Emirates, and that does wrap up Mega Memory. Jenna sits at the top of the leader board with 40 points, Cambell is on 30 points, Megan is on 10 points, and Jack is yet to score, so let's see if we can get Jack up that leader board now, because he is gonna take on his speciality subject round first. So Jack, what have you chosen today? I have chose Spellbinder. Thank you very much, Jack. Let's see if he can get some points with Spellbinder. Word power becomes point power in this letter-by-letter spelling challenge. Stay on track for maximum rewards on the leader board. Jack, please step forward. All right, Jack. Spellbinder coming up for your speciality subject round. A nice opportunity to get some points on the board, OK? Each correct word is worth 20 points. Best of luck to you. Here comes your first word. Spell 'ability'. (DING!) That's correct. Nice start, Jack. Your next word is 'thirteenth'. (DING!) Nice job, Jack. 'Catastrophe'. (BUZZER SOUNDS) You need an 'A' there. Sorry, Jack. 'Southern'. (DING!) That is correct. You're doing great. Next up is... 'miraculous'. (DING!) Nice and confident. Good job. 'Maximum'. (DING!) Also correct. Spell 'audience'. (DING!) 'Fascia'. (BUZZER SOUNDS) C-I-A there to finish up 'fascia'. A tricky one to end there, Jack, but a great job there, especially towards the end. Got a good run, so thank you so much for playing. So Jack boosts himself to top of the leaderboard with 120 points, Jenna is on second with 40 points, Cambell has 30, and Megan is on 10 points, so now it is Megan's turn to take on her speciality subject round. What have you picked today? Identifier. Thank you very much. This is how we play... Identifier. Arrange, eliminate and identify to pass the science test and stack up the points. Megan, step forward. Welcome to the front, Megan. So what is it you love about playing Irish Jigs? Well, I really like the rhythm of them, like, the feeling of playing. Well, hopefully you can get into the rhythm of Identifier. Good luck. Remember each is worth 20 points. Here comes your first one now. Locked in those answers nice and quick. Let's see if she's right. (DING!) Strong start, Megan. Arrange these creatures in order of their expected lifespan from shortest to longest. Already locking in. (DING!) And she's got two. (DING!) And correct again. (DING!) Has she got this one? Absolutely. Definitely in that rhythm. (DING!) That's it. (DING!) Megan, you're doing such an awesome job. Moving on. Which three of these would you find in toothpaste? Took her time for this one. She's got them all correct so far, but does she have this one right? (DING!) She does indeed. Locked it in. How well does she know her food? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Just missed that one. Last but not least on what has been a fantastic round. (DING! BUZZER SOUNDS) Just missing out on the last question there. That does wrap up Identifier. Megan, an amazing job. Thank you so much for playing. With a great run of questions, Megan is now in first place on 150 points, Jack is in second on 120, Jenna is on 40 points, and Cambell is on 30 points, but of course, Jenna and Cambell still have their speciality subject rounds to go, and we'll be getting one step closer to taking on that Brain Buster, right, Mikey? That's right, Chris. Our top two players will be racing, flying, soaring through the ultimate obstacle course to take out the top spot. You better let them know. Bring your A game. And don't forget, you can definitely play from home as well. Just head online to HEIHEI Games. Answer the 10 quiz questions for your chance to win. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more Brain Busters. (EXCITING MUSIC) Nau mai, hoki mai, kia ora, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Jack and Megan do very well in their speciality subject rounds, but can Cambell and Jenna do the same? We are about to find out, because Cambell, it is time for you to take on the challenge. What is your round you have selected? Uh, I've selected Reo Rangatira. Thank you very much. Let's see how we play Reo Rangatira. He pihia te pai o to mohiotanga? How good is your knowledge? If you're a rangatira of Te Reo, you'll be point scoring in Reo Rangatira. Cambell, please step forward, and let's see how well you can take on Reo Rangatira. Best of luck to you, Cambell. Let's see if we can get you back up the leader boards. Good luck. Your first question is... what is the English word for 'koura?' (DING!) That's correct. What is a Maori word for 'breakfast?' (DING!) During a powhiri, tangata whenua are on one side. Who is on the other? Tangata whenua. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Manuhiri is the correct answer there. Oh. What is a Maori word for dog? (DING!) Quick on that one. Tupu-A-Rangi and Tupi-A-Nuku are stars from what star constellation? (DING!) Nice stuff. (DING!) Kia ora. What is the Maori symbol for fortune, fertility and creation? Tino rangatiratanga? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Hei tiki. Pass. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Tohuto was the final answer there of your Reo Rangatira round. Some really good answers had. Cambell, thank you so much for playing. You can take a step back to your podium. Megan is on 150 points, Cambell has snuck back into second place with 130 points, Jack is on 120 points, and Jenna is on 40 points. Of course, Jenna is still to take on her specialist subject round, and it is very close at the top. Can she avoid elimination? We are about to find out. Jenna, what is your chosen subject? Blueprinter. Thank you very much. Let's see how we play Blueprinter. Put your memory under pressure for rapid recall of maps, plans and diagrams. Blueprinter requires pinpoint accuracy for point-scoring power. Hopefully trying to avoid elimination. Jenna, please, step forward. How sharp's your memory, Jenna? Pretty good, sometimes. (CHUCKLES) (CHUCKLES) Sometimes. Well, let's hope it is now. Each correct selection will gain you 20 points. Good luck, and let's see where we are today. We're on the Aratere Interislander. Your time starts now. The Aratere is the longest-serving ferry of the current Interislander fleet, carrying passengers across the Cook Strait, between Wellington and Picton. Interislander has three ferries ` Aratiri, Kaitaki and Kaiarahi. Combined, they have carried more than 40 million passengers. Five seconds left for Jenna. That is time. Hopefully you've managed to lock in all of those. Your time starts now. (TENSE MUSIC) 10 seconds to put in those last ones. And just in the nick of time with that final one there. Jenna, how well do you think you did? I think I did all right? (CHUCKLES) OK, let's see just how well. Got the movie theatre straight away. (DING!) That's two. (DING!) Make it three in a row. (BUZZER SOUNDS) That's the entry/exit, though. That's OK. Still three there. What's our next one? (DING!) Very good. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Missed the outdoor seating, though. (DING!) Got the observation deck. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Missed the lounge. (DING!) But we got the elevator and the nursery. Not a bad effort. Her memory was good enough to get her to the top of the leader board. Jenna now sitting on 180 points, Megan is on 150, Cambell is on 130, and Jack just missing out with 120 points, so unfortunately, Jack, your time on Brain Busters is up. Managed to spell 'miraculous' and 'maximum', just unable to get the maximum number of points. No matter, though. You still get to go home with a $100 bank account. What are you gonna spend the money on? Oh, maybe a new hockey stick. Great idea, Jack. Thank you so much for playing Brain Busters. But as for our remaining players, it means they are one step closer to taking on the Brain Buster. Right, Mikey? Very soon our top two will be joining me here to turn their points into money. Thanks, Mikey. Before they have the chance to take it on, though, we need to decide who our two players will be, and for that we have the Brain Teaser. We've played four of our speciality subjects, which leave us with Equaliser and Sequencer. So now Megan, Jenna and Cambell, it is up for you to vote for which one you would like to play, so please cast your votes now. All right, our votes have been locked in, and let's see what we are going to be playing. Megan voted for... Jenna voted for... And Cambell voted for... There you have it. Let's see how we play Sequencer. Take the mystery out of history ` getting things chronologically correct to win points. It is close as we move into our Brain Teaser, Cambell currently sitting in that elimination position, but can he avoid it? He will certainly hope so. 30 points for each correct answer in this round, but you will lose 30 points if you buzz in and get it incorrect. Good luck, and let's play our Brain Teaser, Sequencer. In what order did these companies release their first cars? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Time up. Put these current Black Caps in order from most test runs to least test runs. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Out of time again. In what order were these New York landmarks opened? Cambell. Uh, Empire State Building, Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Missed that. Sorry, Cambell. We'll move on. In what order were these David Walliams books released? Thinking about buzzing in. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Not able to do so. Out of time, as we move on to our last one. In which order would you find the primary colours in a dictionary? Jenna. Blue, red, yellow? Quick on the answer there. She waited for the question. Is she right? (DING!) She is indeed. So that wraps up our Brain Teaser round. Thank you so much for playing, everyone. Getting that final answer really boosted Jenna's score, now sitting on 210 points. Megan is on 150 points, and Cambell is on 100 points. Cambell, unfortunately it does mean you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. It has been a pleasure having you on the show, though. Going home with a $100 bank account. What are you gonna spend the money on? Uh, some hacks. You sure you don't wanna spend it on a New South Wales Blues shirt? Positive. (LAUGHS) All right. Hey, thank you so much for playing. Really appreciate you coming on the show. So, Mikey, we've now got our two players ready to tackle that Brain Buster. That's right, Chris. Two hemispheres, two tracks to the finish line, but only one winner can take out the ultimate obstacle course. Who's it gonna be? We'll find out after the break. * We asked for the word that means exchanging your money for a service or product. The answer is... spending. Kia ora, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Our four players have taken on Mega Memory, their specialist subject round, plus the Brain Teaser, and now our top two players tackle the Brain Buster. I'm joined here with our two finalists, Megan and Jenna. Megan, how are you feeling? Are you ready? Good, but, like, nervous. Good but nervous? That's good. Good and nerves are good. All right? Jenna, you ready? Yes. All right. Hop off on to your seats, and let's get ready to rock and roll. Three, two, one... go! Whoo-hoo! Here they go. Megan and Jenna, who will take out the Brain Buster? Jenna's wasted no time getting unclipped, as she heads down the neurotransmitter and straight on to the molecule steps. Megan's still having trouble with her harness. This could be disastrous for her. She's finally out and on her way. Megan's going to have to make up plenty of time, Jenna already engaging the hippocampus. Has she remembered the code? (BUTTONS BEEP) Yes, she's got it! Hopefully Megan's got her code in her head as well, Jenna making her way up the parietal lobe, maybe not as fast as she would like, though. Megan punches in the code. (BUTTONS BEEP) No worries. If she can get up the parietal lobe quicker, she might be able to catch Jenna, who is now struggling a little bit with the tunnel. This could end up being a close race, Megan now in the tunnel. Oh, she's getting caught in the end there, and now they have to make their way across the frontal lobe. Now this is one of the trickiest parts of the course, and it's looking like Megan has well and truly caught up to Jenna now. Both players now up to the switches on the DNA molecule ladder. Who can find the correct combination first? Oh, this is a close one! That's Megan! Oh, man, this would be a massive comeback if she can make it to the end first. Both down the ladder now and on to the basal ganglia. Under, over, under... who's it going to be? Megan! What an awesome victory! (LAUGHS) Wow, what a race that was! (BOTH PANT) So close there. Jenna with the early lead, and then Megan coming back to take it by just a couple of seconds. Congratulations, Megan, on winning the Brain Buster. So unfortunately, Jenna, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters, by just a couple of seconds as well. But no matter, you are going home with a $100 bank account. What are you gonna use the money for? Probably just share it with my family and friends. What a lovely gesture that is. Jenna, thank you so much for playing Brain Busters with us today. So Megan, congratulations once again. You are through to the final round, so let's get ready to play Amygdala. Megan, congratulations again. You've made it to the final round, the Amygdala. So with your points and Jenna's points combined, you are playing for a total of $360, each question getting you one step total to that final prize money. Good luck, and let's get into your first Amygdala question. Prince William and Prince Harry are the sons of which prince? Prince Henry? Mm, I'm not really sure, but... She's not sure about that. Worth a guess, though, for the money. Is it Prince Henry? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Unfortunately not. It was Prince Charles. What is the name of the golden statue won at the Academy Awards? The Oscar? Quicker with that answer. Is she right? (DING!) Yes, nice work, Megan. The name of which Japanese martial art literally means 'empty hand'? Is it karate? Let's see if she's right. (DING!) She is. Nice job, Megan. What is the official Maori name that precedes the English name of New Zealand's highest mountain, Mt Cook? I have no idea at all. (CHUCKLES) (BUZZER SOUNDS) Aoraki, the correct answer there. What is the world's largest river by volume? Is it the Amazon River? That's a pretty large river. Is it the largest, though? (DING!) Yes. Nice work. Whose original name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta? (CHUCKLES) I don't know. (BUZZER SOUNDS) The correct answer was Lady Gaga. How many eyes does Mike Wazowski have in the movie Monster's Inc? Is it one? Have you seen Monster's Inc before, Megan? I think I have. A long time ago, though, so... (DING!) It is. In which city are the 2022 Commonwealth Games going to be held? Is it Tokyo? Tokyo have recently held the Rugby World Cup. Are they also going to hold the Commonwealth Games? (BUZZER SOUNDS) No, the correct answer was Birmingham. Baguette, ciabatta and focaccia are all types of which food? Bread. A confident answer. Has she got it? (DING!) She has. And your final question for Amygdala. Serena Williams is a world class player in which sport? Hockey? Don't seem sure on that, but you have locked it in. Is it correct? (BUZZER SOUNDS) Just missed out there. It was tennis, but congratulations. Let's see. $180. Congratulations, Megan! What are you going to do with the money? I want to buy a polaroid camera. What an awesome option. Thank you so much for playing, Megan. It's ben a pleasure having you, and thank you at home for watching as well. Join us tomorrow as four more players try take on the challenge. And don't forget, if you wanna compete here on Brain Busters, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. That's it from us. We'll see you next time for more Brain Busters! See ya! Thank you, NZ on Air!
