(ENERGETIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC) Captions by Joshua Tait Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai haere mai and welcome to Brain Busters. Today we have four players who are ready to go, hoping they have what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. First, they need to tackle their specialist subject from our six options and score enough points to avoid elimination and stay in the game. So let's meet our potential Brain Busters today. First up, Sam. Welcome to the show. What made you want to come on to Brain Busters? Just wanted to. Fair enough. Think you've got a good shot of winning it? I hope so. That's the right attitude. Daniel, welcome to the show. Right into your football. Do you watch the Premier League? Yep. Favourite team? Manchester United. Wrong answer. Liverpool was the correct answer. No way. Why is that? I just like looking at the stars and studying all the space anomalies and things like that. Epic. Well, hopefully, maybe, some of those questions could pop up today. And last, but not least, we have Holly. Now, Holly, I hear you're into ballet. Yep. How do the feet feel after you do ballet? Surely they've gotta hurt, right? Yeah, there are a few blisters and stuff. (CHUCKLES) Do you ever get used to it? Um, so far ` no. (LAUGHS) (LAUGHS) Good, that's promising for everyone watching at home wanting to get into ballet. All right, well, we're not worried about ballet at the moment. We're worried about Brain Busters. So let's get into our first round of the day ` it's Mega Memory. 90 seconds on the clock for our players today. Each correct answer is worth 10 points. Just a couple of easy, maybe some medium and some hard equations for you to answer. Each is worth 20 points. Good luck ` here comes your first equation. That's the one. Correct. That's correct. Add a zero ` 10,000. Sam, thank you so much for playing Equaliser today. And just like that Sam, our first player, has tackled her specialty subject round, but where is she on the leader board? Let's have a look. Daniel still has first place with 80 points. Sam now has 70. Holly has 30 and Shivam has 10. So it is Shivam's turn now to tackle his specialty subject round. What have you chosen, Shivam? I've chosen Identifier. Thank you very much, Shivam. Let's play Identifier. Arrange, eliminate and identify to pass the science test and stack up the points. Good luck. 20 points for each of your Identifier questions. Here's your first one. Happy with that first answer? Yes. As you should be. Another strong answer. Had a think ` make sure he had the order right. But is it? Indeed, it is. Correct. Taking his time, checking over those answers. Did he have that bottom two around the right way? Let's see. Yes, he did. Gotta make sure it's right. Locked in. And correct! And that is our final Identifier question correct for a perfect score. How does that feel? It feels awesome. You've done an amazing job. I really appreciate that you took your time and nailed every single one. Thank you for playing. Thank you. Shivam is on 150 points. Daniel is on 80 points. Sam is on 70 points, and Holly is on 30 points. Of course, Daniel and Holly still to go, as I mentioned before. But, Mikey, early signs are looking pretty promising. What do you reckon? Yeah, Chris. Maybe an early start, but you know how the saying goes. It's not about how you start. It's about how you finish. So I'm gonna give you three tips to help you complete the ultimate obstacle course. Number one, you're gonna need upper body strength. Number two, you're gonna need lower body strength. And number three, most important, you're gonna need pure heart and will. Let's see if they've got this, Chris. Cheers for that, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just head online to Hei Hei Games. Don't go anywhere, we'll see you right back for more Brain Busters. Just head online to Hei Hei Games. Don't go anywhere, we'll see you right back for more Brain Busters. Kia ora and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, Shivam and Sam took on their specialist subject rounds. And next to have a go is Holly. Holly, what have you chosen? Sequencer. Thank you very much. Let's play Sequencer. Take the mystery out of history. Getting things chronologically correct to win points. 20 points, Holly, for each sequence. Good luck, here comes your first one. Thank you. In which order did these famous people live? There we go ` back in the points. In what order did these bands break up? Locking in those ones. Missed out on Fifth Harmony and One Direction. Still not quite over One Direction breaking up either. Anyway, next one. In which order were these beverages released for sale ` earliest to latest. Knows her sugary drinks well. During a calendar year, in what order do these events fall? Think about that order. May have wanted to change it, but she stuck with it. And it was the right thing to do. Order these Roman numerals from lowest to highest value. For our final sequence ` has she nailed the Roman numerals? Indeed, she has. Holly, thank you so much for playing at Sequencer. For correct answers. Nice job. Shivam still holds the lead with 150 points. Holly is on 110 points. Daniel is on 80 points, and Sam is on 70 points. So, we do just have one more of our players to go for their specialist subject round. And that is Daniel. Daniel, what have you chosen? Spellbinder. Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. Word power becomes point power in this letter-by-letter spelling challenge. Stay on track for maximum rewards on the leader board. Didn't want to share many of the answers in Mega Memory? And Sam is on 70 points, which does mean, Sam, I am very sorry to tell you, but you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Not going home empty-handed though. You get to take home a $100 bank account. So what are you going to do with the money? Probably save it. Wise idea, Sam. Thank you so much once again for coming on to the show. As for the remainder of our players, they are moving through to that next stage and getting every so close to that Brain Buster, Mikey. Oh, the odds just got better for our three remaining players, which means our top two finalists will be battling it out to see who will get the chance to turn their points into dollars. Oh! Thanks for that, Mikey. And of course, all three of our players want to get to the Brain Buster stage. But we can only take two. So to separate our players, we do have the Brain Teaser. And that is done by our two remaining specialist subjects. Of course, all of our players have tackled four of them, and we have two left. Today, they are Blueprinter and Reo Rangatira. So, Daniel, Shivam, Holly, the choice is absolutely up to you. Please vote for which one you would like to play now. Everyone has locked in their vote, so let's start with Daniel. He has locked in Reo Rangatira. Shivam has picked Blueprinter. And Holly has chosen... Reo Rangatira. So let's play Reo Rangatira. He pihia te pai o to mohiotanga? How good is your knowledge? If you're a rangatira of Te Reo, you'll be point scoring in Reo Rangatira. We already have some pretty high scores. And we need some movement if certain players want to avoid elimination. 30 points if you get it correct, but if you buzz in and get the question wrong, you will lose 30 points. Still anyone's game. Good luck to all of you. What is leg or foot in Te Reo Maori? Holly. Waewae. Which native bird is well-known for its singing and white tuft throat? Holly. Tui. She has two in a row. Nice work, Holly. Which sport is Wynton Rufer from Ngati Porou famous for? Daniel. Football? That's correct. What is rimurimu? Holly. Tree? (SIGHS) Last one. What is a Maori word for visitor or guest? Clock ticking down and it's done. The correct answer was manuhiri. So that does wrap up our Reo Rangatira round. Thank you so much for playing that one. Daniel is on 230 points. Shivam is on 150 points. And Holly is on 140 points. So by just 10 points, Holly, you do miss out on going through to the Brain Buster. So you have been eliminated. Thank you so much for playing. What are you going to do with the money? I'm gonna save it to go travelling when I'm older. Great choice. Thank you so much for playing, Holly. You were just so, so close. I'm sorry you can't go through. But congratulations to Daniel and Shivam. They are through to the Brain Buster. The two boys have made it to the finals, but there can only be one winner. Who's it gonna be? Stay right there. Don't move a muscle. We'll be right back after the break. * We asked the colour of the $20 note. The answer ` green. Kia ora, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Our four players have taken on Mega Memory, their specialist subject, plus the Brain Teaser. And now our top two will tackle the Brain Buster. I'm here with our two finalists, Daniel and Shivam. Now, Daniel, just by looking at the course, what do you think the hardest part will be? Maybe the tunnel. Nice. And how are you feeling? Hopeful. Hopeful. Awesome. And Shivam, how about you? Which part of the course looks hard and how are you feeling? Probably the very end where you have to do the things with the switches. True. I'm feeling very nervous. Less talk, more action. Let's jump on to our zip lines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three,... two,... one. Go! First up is the Brain Stem zip line. Shivam's got his harness off first and straight down the Neurotransmitter. Daniel right behind with some spin. On to the Molecule Steps. They've both got good speed here. Got the code and whizzing along the Corpus Callosum. Now, hopefully they remember their codes for the next part ` the Parietal lobe. Daniel's first. Shivam having trouble though. But Daniel's leading with a strong climb. Shivam's still trying at the Hippocampus. Yes! That'll cost him some time. Daniel's through the tunnel already. He has quite the advantage right now. He's off along the Frontal Lobe, heading for the Molecule ladder. But Shivam is on his tail, ploughing through that tunnel. He still has a chance to win this. Daniel's on the ladder trying a number combination to change the light switches ` his cue to climb down and race for the finish. There it is! Go, man, go! Shivam on his heels. He'll have to move much faster if wants to win this thing. Over and under the Basal Ganglia, and a strong finish for Daniel! Shivam lost a bit of time at the Hippocampus earlier and just couldn't come back from it. But he's made it to the end now. Good job. And just like that our race is done. Daniel, bring it across. What a race. Thank you so much for a hard-fought race there. Shivam, we'll start with you. Just got a bit lost on that code, mate. Yup. What happened? I forgot to push the hash at the end, so, yeah. Awww. Unfortunate. But, hey, still a great effort here on Brain Busters. Get to go home with a $100 bank account. What are you going to do with the money? I think I'm just gonna save it up for something. Maybe learning how to become an astrophysicist. Probably, yes. (LAUGHS) Great choice. As for you, Daniel, congratulations. You are through to the next round. How does it feel to be the Brain Buster for today? Oh, it's really exciting. Great feeling. Yeah. You've done amazing. So, Daniel is getting ready for Amygdala. Daniel, you've made it through to Amygdala. Congratulations. What a journey so far. 80 points you had after Mega Memory. Then you did an amazing job in Spellbinder. Nearly getting a perfect score, just needed to spell irresistible and you would have had it. So, here is how it's going to work. Shivam got 150 points, including his seven out of seven round in his specialty subject, so $150 from him. Plus 230 points you got, for a combined total ` $380 you're playing for, Daniel. How does that sound? Really good. Really good? A lotta money? Yeah. Let's try win as much as we can. So $38 for each correct answer is yours. Good luck, Daniel. Here is your first Amygdala question ` Which New Zealand telecommunications brand shares its name with a temperature? (SCOFFS) I don't know. Give it a guess ` first question. WHISPERS: Temperature... Oh, 2Degrees. Now it's clicked. Yeah. Correct. Good work. I knew you had that one. Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Ernie are all characters on which TV show? Sesame Street. Nice. The player who holds his ball in the fewest strokes wins in which sport? Golf. On a roll. Who was the headmaster of Hogwarts at the start of the Harry Potter series? Dumbledore. Which Australian singing group's songs include Big Red Car and Hot Potato? The Wiggles. Big fan of The Wiggles when you were younger? Yeah! Who wasn't, right? Not many people. (CHUCKLES) Let's see if you've got it right. You do. Five out of five. Which Carnegie Medal-winning New Zealand author wrote The Haunting and The Changeover? Margaret Mahy? Bit of a guess? Yeah. Locking in Margaret Mahy? Yeah. What?! You're correct. Great guess. Yes, it was Margaret Mahy, indeed. How many friends make up the Dude Perfect trick shot group? Counting away, so Daniel clearly has seen a bit of Dude Perfect before. Five? You watch a lot of their stuff? Not really. I've seen some, but... Could be right, could be wrong. Have we missed one? It is. On the quiz show The Chase, who of the following is not a Chaser? The Beast, The Vixen, The Terminator. The Terminator. CHUCKLING: How's the confidence about this? Not too great. You've been guessing pretty well so far. Can it continue? Yes, it can. WHISPERS: Yes. With the capital Caracas, in which country is Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world, located? (SIGHS) No idea, no. Give it a guess. Any country in the world. Dunno. Venezuela, the answer there. Which former Destiny's Child member has three children with rapper Jay-Z? Beyonce? You're locking in Beyonce for your final Amygdala question. You've had an amazing run here so far. Can this complete a really, really strong Amygdala round? Yes, it can! Daniel, congratulations. Let's take a look at the board. $342. Daniel, it's all yours. How does that feel? Really amazing. What are you gonna do with the money? Football jerseys. Football jerseys. Manchester United.
