Four players, three rounds, two players race, one winner takes it all. Kia ora tatou, I'm Chris Kirk, and this is Brain Busters. Get ready for series of escalating rounds where we test our players on te reo, history, spelling, memory and more before it all leads up to this ` the Brain Buster. Malo e lelei, everyone. It's the one and only Mikey Falesiu, the king of the ultimate obstacle course. That's right, it's about pure strength, will, and power to see if you've got the goods in our winner-takes-all prize for none. Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. Captions by John Gibbs. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai haere mai, welcome to Brain Busters. Four more players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. But first, they need to tackle their specialist subject from our six options and score enough points to avoid elimination and stay in the game. In the meantime, let's meet today's players, firstly, Herbie. Kia ora, welcome to the show. Yep. What are we doing when we're not here on Brain Busters? Rugby, PS4. Nice. Stuff like that. Who's your favourite player? Ben Smith. Ooh, speedy Ben Smith. Great to have you here. Good luck to you. Next up we have Emily, also a rugby player I hear. Your favourite player? Portia Woodman. Nice choice. And I hear you're right into your baking, what do like to bake? Anything. Anything and everything. Nice, good luck to you. Next up, we've got Scarlet. Welcome, Scarlet. Why are you here on Brain Busters? Um, to enjoy the game show. Excellent. We're so glad to have you. And last but not least, we do have Amor. Amor, I hear you've got something published. Can you tell us a little bit about that? Uh, yeah, I got my poems and short stories published in Paint n' Pen. Wow, very awesome! Thank you so much for joining us as well. Thank you to everyone for being here today. So, let's get straight into it, not waste any time, and play Mega Memory. 10 points for every correct answer, but you will lose 10 points if you get it incorrect. Of course, no one eliminated during this round, so give it your all. Good luck, your time starts now. A human usually has how many toes? Scarlet? 10. In degrees Celsius, what temperature does pure water freeze? Emily? 0. Which large US city includes Brooklyn and Manhattan? Herbie? New York. Sesame, Sunflower, Canola, Rice, Bran` (BUZZER) Emily? Seeds. Oil. Pfft. In the story of Peter Pan, what is the name of the one-handed villain? Herbie? Captain Hook. The blue kiwi is associated with which online auction brand? Emily? Trade Me? Complete the line ` I do not like them, Sam-I-Am. I do not like green... Scarlet? Hams and` Eggs and ham. No` Yes. Correct. In rugby, how many points does an unconverted try score. Herbie. 5. Correct. What is Professor Snape's first name? Emily? Lost it. Severus. Pfft. Which animated movie includes the song 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'? Herbie. The Lion King. How many months are in the spring season? Emily. 4? 3. What type of fruit is a Braeburn? Amor. Berry? Apple. In Dragon Ball Z, which planet do Saiyans come from? That is time. Vegeta was the correct answer there. Herbie is in first place on 40 points, Scarlet is on second in 20 points, and Emily and Amor are yet to score. So because Emily and Amor are tied on 0 points currently, it is going to be Emily who is first to play her specialist subject. What have you chosen, Emily? Uh, sequencer. Thank you, this is Sequencer. Take the mystery out of history ` getting things chronologically correct to win points. 20 points for these sequences, Emily, so some big points to be played. We need some points on the board for you, so good luck. Here comes your first sequence. In which order did the following animals become extinct. Locked in those answers, let's see how we've done to start with. A nice strong start, Emily. Good job. In what order were these invented? How's she gone in this one? Another strong answer. In what order were these board games first released? How do we think about that one? Does she have three for three? Let's see. She does indeed, with a nice smile there. In which sequence were these book series first released? More of a think about this one. Wants to change it again. She's unsure. Should she have kept it how it was before? Let's find out. Yep. Knew she had that one. Next up ` In what order would you complete these years in high school in America? Fast on that one. Think she's got it, but does she? Absolutely. Put these Stone Age periods in order from oldest to youngest. Another confident lock-in. Is it correct? Yes, indeed. Next up, Emily, finally. In which order were these landmarks constructed? Final sequence, how has she done? (LAUGHS SOFTLY) Missing out there on her last sequence. But a fantastic job, with 5 correct answers, Emily has jumped to top of the leaderboard. Now sitting on 100 points, Herbie, still on 40, Scarlet on 20, and Amor yet to score, but we are about to change that right now, Amor, so what is your chosen round today? Uh, Spellbinder. Thank you very much. This is Spellbinder. Word power becomes point power in this letter-by-letter spelling challenge. Stay on track for maximum rewards on the leaderboard. All right, Amor, currently sitting in fourth place. We need to change that to avoid that elimination, OK? Here comes your first word, worth 20 points. 'Postponement.' Sorry, P-O-S-T... there. Nice stuff! 'Diagonal.' Also correct. 'Narrator.' Just needed that 'T-O-R' to finish. 'Subscribe.' That's the one. 'Luminous.' 'O-U-S' to finish luminous there. 'Ferocious.' Sorry, just needed 'F-E-R' there. And that is a very quick round of Spellbinder. Three correct there, Amor, so let's take a look at the leader boards. Emily still has top spot on 100, Amor for now is safe with 60 points, Herbie 40 points, and Scarlet has 20 points. So, of course, we still have Herbie and Scarlet to take on their specialist subject rounds. And we are getting one step closer to taking on the Brain Buster, the question is, Mikey, can't they handle it? I think they can handle this, Chris. But do you know what you're gonna need to complete this bad boy? You're gonna need three things, and I'll help you out a little bit. Number one, upper body strength. Number two, lower body strength. And number three, pure will. (CLICKS TONGUE) I know they've got this, Chris. Thank you very much, Mikey. And don't for get, you can play from home as well. Just head online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere, we'll be right back right after the break. * Kia ora, welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Emily and Amor take on their specialist subject rounds. Now, it is Scarlet's turn. Scarlet, what have you chosen? Blueprinter. Thank you very much. This is Blueprinter. Put your memory under pressure for rapid recall of maps, plans and diagrams. Blueprinter requires pinpoint accuracy for point-scoring power. Excited to be here on the game show that is Brain Busters. How will she do under pressure in Blueprinter. Good luck, you're gonna have 30 seconds to memorize and then 30 seconds to put in your answers. So let's see our location today. Auckland Transport Rail Map. Your time starts now. (THOUGHTFUL MUSIC) From Pukekohe to Swanson, the At Rail Service will have you chugging through Auckland. 15 electric trains will soon be riding the rails too. So keep an eye out if you ever catch a ride at one of the 41 stations. And that is time to memorise, Scarlet. So now you're gonna have 30 seconds to put in all of those locations. Good luck, your time starts now. 10 seconds left, Scarlet. Thoughts on how you did, Scarlet? Not sure. (LAUGHS) Not too sure? Well, let's find out now. Let's see where our first one was, was it right? Unfortunately not, anyway, moving on. Miss Sunnyvale as well. It's OK, still some more opportunities. Did miss Swanson. We got Sylvia Park! There we go, on the board, Scarlet. Next up ` miss Morningside, and finally ` We got Papakura. Thank you very much, Scarlet. Obviously, tricky game, a bit of Blueprinter, but you've done very well. So, Scarlett has now taken on her specialty subject round, let's see where she is on the leaderboard. Emily is in first place at 100 points, we have an interesting second place with Scarlet and Amor both on 60 points. Herbie is on 40 points, which means Herbie is our last player to take on his speciality subject round. What are you playing today, Herbie? Reo Rangatira. Thanking you, this is how we play Reo Rangatira. He pehea te pai o to mohiotanga? 'How good is your knowledge'? If you're a rangatira of te reo, you'll be point-scoring in Reo Rangatira. All right, Herbie, no pressure. You were in first after Mega Memories. So let's see if you can get back to that top-spot. Here comes your first te reo focused question. What is a Maori word for dark, sad or disheartened? Pouri? Nice start. Is hupa paukena pumpkin soup or onion soup? Pumpkin. In Maori mythology, who slowed the sun? Tane? Oh, Maui. Knows he got it wrong, Maui, yes, the correct answer. What is a Maori word for local people or hosts? Rangatira? The answer there. He aha nga mei o te rangi i arahi i nga kaihautu waka ki aotearoa nei? South Island? Was the answer there. Finally, what is a Maori word for river? Awa. Quick on that one, and correct to finish Reo Rangatira there. Three correct answers, I think you probably could have got four, if not five, but still a fantastic job. Herbie and Emily are both safely through to the next round with 100 points. However, we have Scarlet and Amor tied for third place on 60 points. So, what's gonna happen now is we're going to our sudden death tie-breaker. I will ask both Scarlet and Amor a question. If they answer it and get it right, they are through to the next round. But if they buzz in and get it wrong, they will lose, and the other player will go through in their place. Good luck, Scarlet, good luck, Amor. Here comes your tie-breaker question. Which artist has a movie based on their life called Rocketman? Elton John? ...is correct. Congratulations, Scarlet, you are through to the next round. Which does mean, Amor, I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. It's been a pleasure having you on the show. What are you going to do with the money? Uh, I'll probably buy something for my family. What a lovely choice! Thank you so much for playing, Amor, it's been great having you on. So we have our three players through to the next round, they are Herbie, Emily and Scarlet. And of course, we're getting another step closer to that Brain Buster. Mikey ` I'm excited, are you excited for them to take it on? Chris, it's super exciting! Because very soon, our top two finalists will be joining the king here in the kingdom to flip their points into money. Shot, Mikey! Before we can make it to the brain and bust it, though, we need the brain teaser. And that is done by our players choosing for which category they would like to play. So, we've already had four of our categories here on Brain Busters. Our remaining categories are identifier and equaliser. So, Herbie, Emily, and Scarlet, please vote for your option now. Well, three of our players have locked in their vote. Let's see what Herbie voted for. Equaliser, Emily chose... Identifier, the deciding vote is Scarlet, what did she pick, though? Identifier! Excellent, this is how we play Identifier. Arrange, eliminate and identify to pass the science test and stack up the points. Now I think this one's going to be pretty interesting. Of course, in the Brain Teaser, you get thirty points if you buzz in and get it correct, but you will lose thirty points if you buzz in and get it wrong. And there's only thirty points that separate all of you, so it's gonna be tight, good luck. Here comes your first question. 60ml, 400ml and 2L. Locked in those answers, can she take the lead with that one? Yes, she can. Emily. Can move quickly, prickly, and coloured red. Does she have two for two? Indeed, Emily, shooting out in that lead. (BUZZER SOUNDS) Time up on that one. Herbie. Maui dolphin, stag beetle and kakapo. Can Herbie get some points back and close that gap on Emily? Yes, he can. Sigh of relief there from Herbie. Last one. Emily? Base rock, subsoil and topsoil. Bit of confusion on her second and third choice, did she get it round the right way? Yes she did. Strong round for Emily, there, as she moves to 190 points. Where are our other players on the leaderboard? Let's find out now. So as I just mentioned, Emily is on 190 points, Herbie is on 130 points, and Scarlet is on 70 points. Unfortunately, Scarlet, it does mean your time on Brain Busters is over. Managed to avoid that first elimination, unable to do it again. Have you enjoyed Brain Busters? Yeah, I loved it. Great to have you on the show. And you go home with a $100 bank account. What are you going to do with the money? Um, give some to the family. Lovely choice. Scarlet, thank you so much for playing. So, as for Emily and Herbie, it is now on to the Brain Buster. Two players are going to face the true test of power, speed, strength and pure will. The catch is, there can only be one winner. Who's it going to be? Don't move a muscle, we'll be right back after the break. * And the answer was $50,000! Kia ora, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Our four players have taken on Mega Memory, their specialist subject round, plus the Brain Teaser. And now our top two players will tackle the Brain Buster. Here I am, joined with our two finalists, Herbie and Emily. Now, Herbie, how are you feeling, man? We finally made it up to this moment, are you ready to go? Yep. Good to go. Less talk, more action. And Emily, how are you feeling? I'm pretty nervous, but ready to go, yeah. Here we go! In 3... Fly! Woo-hoo! Herbie and Emily heading into the Brain Buster now. Harnesses off, and both slide down the Neurotransmitters, neck and neck. Now on to the Molecule Steps, Emily being cautious here. Herbie's got his code, and speeds down the Corpus Callosum, swiftly followed by Emily. Herbie at the Hippocampus, has he punched in the right code? Yes! Emily's turn... Away she goes! Herbie's ahead, and nearly up the Parietal Lobe. Emily is close behind, but look at Herbie go! He's already through the tunnel. Where's Emily? Here she comes, getting a bit tangled up there. Come on, Emily! Herbie now crossing the Frontal Lobe! He's flying! Emily's made it out, and catching up quickly! This could be anyone's race... Carefully balancing as they head for the DNA Molecule Ladder, Herbie makes it first and must work out the switch sequence. When the lights change colour, they must race to the finish line. Emily not far behind, but is it too late? She's hanging on tight, and not giving up. There goes the lights! Herbie flies to the Basal Ganglia. Under, over... Emily's got one switch, but Herbie's done it! He's won the race, nice one, Herbie! Off the DNA Ladder, through the Basal Ganglia, here she comes... Nearly there... Well done, Emily! And there we go, that is it! The Brain Buster is complete. Herbie, come on across. Emily, firstly, we'll start with you. Thank you so much for taking on the Brain Buster. It was not quite the result we were after. But did you have a lot of fun? Yeah. (LAUGHS) Congratulations. So, what are you gonna do with the money? Go home with a $100 bank account. I'll put it towards a PS5. Aw, nice, yeah, recently released. Great job Emily. Thank you so much for coming on the show. Herbie, congratulations, taking it out. The way you got through the web there was super quick. How does it feel to be the winner of today's Brain Busters? Yeah. Feel's pretty good. Awesome. Happy, yeah. Well, it now does mean that Herbie is ready to take on Amygdala. Welcome to do the Amygdala. Here we have Herbie, you've done an amazing job, man. You've got through that Brain Teaser, just, and obviously a fantastic effort on the Brain Buster. Of course, you get to steal all of Emily's points. She had 190, and add that with yours, which was $130. So you're playing for $320, Herbie. So, each question, right, is worth $32. 10 questions, you've got this. Are you ready to go? Yep. Here is your first Amygdala question. Is the New Zealand show about farmers and farming called Country Countdown, or Country Calendar? Country Calendar. That's correct, nice strong start. South Africa. Quick on the answer there. Which show, set in the town of Bedrock, features next door neighbours Barney and Betty Rubble? Flintstones. ...is correct. Great start, here.
