Who has the mind power to get through all the rounds and ends up at this ` the mighty Brain Buster. - Mikey Falesiu, ready, as always. Our final two players will be pushed to their limit to be crowned as today's Brain Buster. Will they be able to handle the heat, Chris? - We're about to find out, Mikey. Thank you very much for that. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. (EXCITING ELECTRONIC MUSIC) Captions by Michaela Cornelius Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. As always, we start with our specialist rounds, where our players can choose from our six options. Hopefully, they will get enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players today. First up, we've got CJ. Five instruments you can play. What are they? - Yeah. Drums, piano, keyboard, ukulele and guitar. - So surely you're in a band or something? - A friend and I are trying to start one. That's why I try to save up for a drum kit. - Oh, nice. Good work. I'm sure Brain Busters can help that. $100 already, so cha-ching! Next up, we have Vanessa. What do you like to do in your spare time, Vanessa? - I like to do fencing. - Fencing. So we're talking, like, the sword one or the banging fences in the ground? - The sword one. - Riiiight, makes sense. I suppose you probably wouldn't want to do the fence one in the ground in your spare time, would ya? - No. - (LAUGHS) Great to have you on the show, Vanessa. Next up, we've got Shelby. Right into doing your own, like, playwrights. - Yes. - What kind of stuff do you do? I like writing adaptations of classic fairy tales, and then I'm working on a couple of originals. - Very cool. What's your original stuff about? - My original at the moment is about a race based on vampires that I'm calling Starlings. - (INHALES SHARPLY) Spooky. I like it. Great to have you on the show as well, Shelby. And then we've also got Michael. Michael, what you want to be when you're a little bit older? - I'd love to be either a footballer, a musician or an entrepreneur. - Oh, very cool options, indeed. Why, thank you, everyone, for coming on to the show. Let's get into our first round. It's Mega Memory. 90 seconds is on the clock for our players. 10 points if they buzz in and get it right. But buzz in and get it wrong, they will lose 10 points. So here we go, Mega Memory. Your time starts now. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a spin-off from what movie series? Shelby. - Harry Potter. - What kind of animal is Blue in Blue's Clues? Shelby? - Pass. - Dog. Which part of the Christian Bible was written first ` Old or New Testament? Michael. - Nintendo. - Which country has the world's highest population? Vanessa. - China. - What colour tin does the drinking chocolate Milo come in? Michael. - Purple. Oh no. - Green. Vanessa. - Beetle. - What meat is used in carbonara? Time's up. The correct answer there was pork. And that is it for Mega Memory. Thank you everyone for playing our first round. Let's take a look now at the leader boards. So we move into to our specialist subject rounds now. And I think CJ deserves to get some points on the board. So we'll start with you, CJ. What are you going to play today? - Blueprinter. - Great choice, man. Let's play Blueprinter. He's got a whole lot of different musical instruments to remember, but how good is his memory today on Brain Busters? CJ, please step forward. All right, CJ, you're gonna have 30 seconds to have a look at what our blueprint is. Then you're gonna have a further 30 seconds to put in all of your answers. Make sense? - Yup. - Good luck. Let's take a look at our Blueprinter. We're at Auckland Airport. Best of luck. Your time starts now. The third busiest airport in Australasia, Auckland Airport has over 20 million passengers travelling through its terminals every year and over $15 billion worth of freight passing through too, making it New Zealand's biggest travel hub. 10 seconds left, CJ. It's time. All right, 30 seconds on the clock now to input all of those answers. That time starts now. 15 seconds left, CJ. 5 seconds left. Aw, I think we missed one there, but, still, hopefully you're about to see a whole lot of green CJ, best of luck. Let's take a look at our first one. Got the Footy Field straight away. Nice work. And Aviation Security. Got Butterfly Creek as well. Missed out on the Short Term Parking, CJ. And the shopping centre. What about International Terminal? Ah, couldn't quite get that one. So three correct there for Blueprinter. Thank you so much for playing, CJ. So next to play is Shelby. What have you chosen? - Sequencer. - That's the one. Let's play Sequencer. Hoping some vampire-related questions pop up in Sequencer today. Shelby, please step forward. I can't promise you vampires will pop up, but you never know. You never know. 20 points for each correct sequence. Shelby, best of luck. Here comes your first one. List these North Island towns from east to west. East to west. Is that the right order? Needed to swap it round. No worries, Shelby. Still plenty of time to get some more points on the board. In what order did Justin Bieber release these albums? One for all the Beliebers out there. Is that you, Shelby? - Absolutely not. - (LAUGHS) Let's see if we can get some points here. More of a Belieber than you think, Shelby. In what order with these Paris attractions built? Nice work, another 20 points Shelby. Your final sequencer. In what order with these household items invented? Last one. Similar theme, again, just needed to swap the two of them around. Still, great job at playing today. Thank you so much, Shelby, for taking on Sequencer. So two of our players have already gone through their specialist subject round. And when we return from the break, our remaining two players will have a go. But of course, everyone is wondering, 'Can I get to the Brain Buster?' - We're getting closer to that time, where our final two will tackle the brain buster. Things are about to get real, so I hope they're ready, Chris. - Don't worry, Mikey. They're all over it. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just head online to Heihei Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back for more Brain Busters. * Welcome back to Brain Busters. Now, just before the break, CJ and Shelby took on the challenge of their specialist subject rounds. And next to step up is Vanessa. So what are we playing, Vanessa? - Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Let's see if Vanessa can avoid elimination. Please step forward, Vanessa. How are the nerves now, Vanessa, compared to when you're doing fencing? - I think fencing is more nerve-wracking. - All right. OK, good to know. So you should be sweet through all of this. 20 points for each correctly identified answer. Here comes your first one. Fantastic start. Nice work. Locked in the next one there. Have we got it? Great stuff, Vanessa. Can we get back on track, add 20 more points? Nicely done, Vanessa. Just needed to swap around primary and secondary consumer. Vanessa happy with just the one change there. And you're right. Here comes your last Identifier question. See if we can end with another correct answer. We can indeed. Vanessa, great job. That is Identifier, done and dusted. Gauge. Three in a row. Spell appropriate. Just needed a 'P' in there before the 'R'. Sorry, Michael. Your next word is... tomb. Kia ora, Michael. Well done. Chronological. Well-spelled, Michael. Your final Spellbinder word is... participation. - Participation. - That is correct. Michael, well done. I think you were very, very close to getting a perfect round there. How do you feel about it? - I'm extremely proud of what I've done today. - As you should be, Michael. Thank you so much for playing Spellbinder. Michael now his first place with 140 points. So I'm sorry to say, Shelby, just by 10 points, you've missed out today on brain busters. But you get to go home with a $100 bank account. So what are you going to do with that money, Shelby? - I've got a lot of books on my to-be-read list, so I'll probably buy some books. - Oh, nice. What's top of the list at the moment? - I'm not sure. There's about six of them (CHUCKLES)that are at the top. - (LAUGHS) Thank you so much for coming on to the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. It is getting closer and closer to the Brain Buster. - The odds just got better for our three remaining players. Very soon, our top two will be taking on the ultimate obstacle course. I hope they've been training, Chris. - We will see shortly, Mikey. In the meantime, we have our brain-teaser. Now, all of our players have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we are left with two for our players to choose from. Today, our options are ` So CJ, Vanessa and Michael, please choose which one you would like to play now. Thank you very much for locking in those votes, We'll start with CJ, who has voted for... Reo Rangatira. Vanessa has chosen... Equaliser. So it comes down to you, Michael, and he has picked... Equaliser. Thank you all for your votes. Let's play Equaliser. Can CJ catch up, or will Michael and Vanessa run away with it? Let's find out now. 30 points if you buzz in and get it right, but you will lose 30 points if you buzz in and get it wrong. Thank you so much to everyone playing that round. Let's take a look at our updated leader board. Vanessa now has the lead with 180 points. So let them run away with it, unfortunately, CJ. So you have been eliminated from Brian Busters. Going home with a $100 bank account, CJ. So what are you going to do with that money? - Might put it towards a drum kit or go spend it at the mall. - Nice work, CJ. Good luck with the band as well. - Thank you. - Have to send us some of the music. - Yeah. - Sweet as, CJ. And congratulations to you, Vanessa, and to you, Michael. It is now time for the Brain Buster. - Two tracks to the finish, but only one will leave victorious. Who will it be? Don't go anywhere. Who will it be? Don't go anywhere. * Welcome back to Brain Busters. Today, our players have been battling it out throughout the show, all leading up to this moment, the Brain Buster. - It's the moment of truth for our two finalists, Vanessa and Michael. Now, Vanessa, you really enjoy writing poems, is that right? - Yup, I like writing poems about abstract things and poems that rhyme. - Awesome, nice. And Michael, you're amazing at the piano. - Yes, I love playing the piano, and I also really enjoy technology and football. - Oh, awesome, man. Let's jump up on our zip-lines, and let's do this. Here we go. Three, two, one. Go! Vanessa and Michael head into the Brain Buster. Vanessa has a 10-point lead going into this, but Michael doesn't seem fazed, as he slides down the Neurotransmitter. The Molecule Steps are next up. Here comes Vanessa. Michael is ready for the Corpus Callosum now that he has retrieved his code and hopefully remembered it. Vanessa with a more careful approach on the steps. She's got her code. Michael at the Hippocampus and definitely remembered that code. Vanessa can't be far behind now. She's on her way to the Parietal Lobe, while Michael is already climbing it. Through the tunnel. And it looks like Vanessa successfully entered her code as she tries to catch up. Michael swings across the Frontal Lobe with Vanessa on his tail. He's not bothered, though, because he is quite a bit ahead and nearly reached the DNA Molecule Ladder. There goes Vanessa, crawling through the tunnel. But Michael has activated his switch. He's coming down the ladder to the Basal Ganglia and makes his way to the finish. He was behind in points at the start of the race but quickly came out on top by the end of it. Ka pai! Vanessa, you had a great run there. It's a tricky course, but you made it to the end with no hiccups. What a great effort, Chris. These guys were awesome. - And there goes Vanessa, hitting that buzzer. Come across, Vanessa. What a race. Thank you so much for competing, the both of you. We'll start with you first, Vanessa. Congratulations on competing in Brain Busters today. Thank you. - You've had an amazing run. Almost that perfect score... - Yeah. - ...in Spellbinder as well. Never forget how to spell appropriate now, will ya? (LAUGHS) - No, never. All right, so you got 170 points. Vanessa got 180 points. We combine both of those scores. Michael, you're playing for $350. - Wow, that sounds really good.
