- Four players, three rounds. Two players race; one winner takes it all. Kia ora. I'm Chris Kirk, and this is Brain Busters. Who has the mind power to turn their knowledge into dollars and end up at this, the Brain Buster? - Mikey Falesiu chilling here on the ultimate obstacle course, where our final two will battle it out to see who will be crowned as today's Brain Buster! - Thanks for that, Mikey. And, as always, you can play from home as well. So, let's meet today's Brain Busters! (EXCITING MUSIC) Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 (MUSIC CONTINUES) - Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players battling it out, hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. Now, they'll go through their specialist subject rounds from our six choices today. Then they'll hope they've got enough points to avoid elimination and carry on through the game. So let's meet our players now. - First up, we've got Jasper, a future ornithologist. Loves watching birds. Why do you love them? What got you into it, Jasper? - I love adventuring to... unknown places, um... Endemic birds in New Zealand especially. We've got lots of special birds, like the kakapo ` my favourite ` the flightless parrot. - Awesome. So hoping some bird-related questions could pop up today? - Hoping so, yes. - Fingers crossed. Great to have you here, Jasper. We also have Blake ` right into your chess. What d'you love about chess, Blake? - Uh, I just like logical thinking, and it's sort of like putting your mind on a board sort of thing. - So have you got a bit of a strategy coming in to Brain Busters today, to beat your opponents? - I dunno. Just... just wanna win. That's all. Yeah. - That's the attitude. Nice work, Blake. Also got Cass. Cass, welcome to the show. Why do you wanna be here on Brain Busters? - Um, I just wanna have fun and meet new people ` just try a new experience, really. Nice. And if you were to win Brain Busters, what would you spend the money on? - Um, there's a concert coming up, and I've gotta pay for tickets for that, so, yeah. - Nice. Best of luck to you. And last but not least, we do have Hannah. Hannah, whereabouts in the world would you love to go? - Probably Paris. - Why's that? - To go see the Eiffel Tower, and there's a bunch of different foods and people there. - Awesome. Maybe some France knowledge could be popping up for you today as well. Who knows? But I think we should get straight into it. Great to have you all here. So, let's play our first round ` it's Mega Memory. (INTRIGUING MUSIC) As always, 90 seconds on the clock. 10 points if our players buzz in and get it right ` but buzz in and get it wrong and they will lose 10 points. Here we go. Your time starts... now. Which cartoon character's grandparents are Granny Pig and Grandpa Pig? Blake. - Peppa Pig? - Which murder mystery board game includes Miss Scarlet, Reverend Green` - Cass? - Um... Oh, I forgot. Never mind. - Pluto. The H2go brand is associated with which liquid? Blake. - Water. - Beginning with D, what type of animals are created in Jurassic Park? Blake. - Dinosaurs? - Made by Whittaker's, Dark Ghana is a type of what? Cass. - Chocolate. - Does melanin make skin darker or lighter? Blake. - Lighter. - Darker. In the film Avengers Endgame, who plays Tony Stark? Hannah. - Oh... It's, um... Nah. - Robert Downey Jr. In which country is the Taj Mahal? Jasper? - Dubai. - India. On a standard six-sided die, what do any two numbers on opposite faces add up to? Blake. - Four? - Seven. What is the Italian company Ferrari best known for making? Jasper. - Cars. - Moccona and Nescafe are both brands of what? Cass. - Coffee. - Which singer/songwriter's debut album was called American Teen? - (BUZZER BLARES) - Khalid. Which Olympic sport uses a long, sharp spear? Blake? - Pole vault? - Javelin. That was our final answer there, and that does wrap up Mega Memory. Thanks so much for playing our first round. Let's take a look at the leaderboards. Cass is in first place, with 20 points, Jasper is on 10 points, Blake has zero points, and Hannah has zero points as well. So, now we move into our specialist subject rounds, and to start us off today, it is Blake. So, Blake, what are we playing? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much, Blake. Let's play Equaliser. (INTRIGUING MUSIC) He's always thinkin' ahead when he's playing chess, but how will he do with our equations today? Blake, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Bit of a rollercoaster in Mega Memory. Blake answered a whole lot of questions but, unfortunately, just got some of them wrong. So I think it's time to redeem ourselves here. Yeah? - Yeah. - 20 points for each correct equation, Blake. Best of luck. Here comes your first one. - 17? - 18. Close start. - 198? - That was quick. Correct. Next equation ` - 63? - You got it, Blake. - 64. - Back on track. - 12. - 48? Final equation, Blake. - 294? - Is correct. Great finish there to Equaliser. Some super speedy answers as well. How did you manage to work it all out in your head so quick? - Oh, I dunno. I'm just` Practice, I guess. - Fair enough. Well, hey, great job, Blake. Thank you so much for playing Equaliser. Blake has jumped up to first place, with 100 points; Cass is on 20 points, Jasper is on 10 points, and Hannah is on zero points. So I think it's time we change that. Hannah, what are we playing today? - Blueprinter. - Excellent choice. Let's play Blueprinter. One day she'd love to make memories in France, but today we need to test her memory. Hannah, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Think You got a pretty good memory, Hannah? - Yeah. Well, we're about to find out. So, you're gonna have 30 seconds to see what our blueprint is today, then 30 seconds to input your answers. Best of luck, and let's take a look. Edinburgh Castle is where we are. You have 30 seconds on the clock, starting now. Edinburgh Castle was once the home of the Scottish monarchy. It is nestled in a volcanic crag called Castle Rock that has been inhabited by people since the Iron Age, so at least 3000 years. 10 seconds left, Hannah. And before you know it, time is up. You will have 30 seconds to put in all of those answers. Best of luck. Here we go. It's halfway, Hannah. Five seconds to get that last one in. Just in the nick of time, Hannah. How do you think you went? - Pretty good. Nice. I like the confidence. Let's have a look. Nice work. Got the first one. And we got the Royal Palace. And the New Barracks. Looking really good here, with Western Defences. Aww, spoke too soon. Couldn't get the Regimental Museum. Come on ` Governor's House! No, unfortunately not. So started with a hiss and a roar, Hannah. Just trailing off towards the end there, but still a fantastic effort. Thank you so much for playing Blueprinter. Blake still has the lead, with 100 points; Hannah is on 80, Cass has 20, and Jasper has 10. So, after the break, Cass and Jasper will take their turn at their specialist subject rounds. But of course, everyone is thinking ` will they have enough points to get to the Brain Buster? - It's not gonna be easy for our two finalists turning their points into dollars. They're gonna have to work extremely hard for it, because this bad boy is a whole nother level. Better let 'em know, Chris! - Will do, Mikey. Thank you very much for that. And don't forget, of course, you can play from home as well; simply head online to HEIHEI Games. Do not go anywhere. We'll be right back for more Brain Busters. (EXCITING MUSIC) (EXCITING MUSIC) Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, Blake and Hannah took on their specialist subject rounds, and next up to the front, it is Jasper. So what are we playing, Jasper? - Identifier. Excellent choice. Let's play Identifier. (INTRIGUING MUSIC) He can identify just about any bird, but can he identify all the answers today? Let's find out. Jasper, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Fingers crossed that we have some bird-related questions pop up? - Yup. (CHUCKLES) - Let's find out. 20 points for each correctly identified question. All the best. Here we go. First one locked in for Jasper. Points on the board. Yes, indeed. That's 20 points, Jasper. Locked in for this one. Ah, needed to swap it out for 'rusting metal' and 'cooking an egg'. Happy with this one, Jasper? - Yep. - And rightly so. Nice work. Back on track. Oh, just missing out by one there, unfortunately, Jasper. Surely we gotta eat our greens, right? Yes. Nice work. Good finish there as well, Jasper. How do you think you eat? - All right. Yep. - You did a really good job. You should be super proud of yourself. Thank you so much for playing Identifier. Blake sits at the top, with 100 points; Jasper moves up to second, with 90 points; Hannah has 80 points; Cass is on 20 points. So it is just Cass lift to tackle her specialist subject. And what have you chosen to play today, Cass? - Spellbinder. Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. (INTRIGUING MUSIC) Currently sitting in that risky elimination position. Can she avoid it? Let's find out. Cass, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) No pressure, Cass, if you want to avoid that elimination. All right? 20 points for each correctly spelled word. Here comes your first one. 'Terrain'. Nice start. 'Apprentice'. Quick to spell that one. 'Gigabyte'. Nice stuff. 'Plantation'. 'Wholly'. - Um, can I have it in a sentence? 'Police thought the witness lied and his story was wholly inaccurate.' Needed another L in there. Sorry, Cass. 'Vertices'. - (SNIFFS) - You got it. Nice work. Your final Spellbinder word is... 'clearance'. That is correct. What a great round of Spellbinder there. CHUCKLES: Don't think you're ever gonna misspell 'wholly' again ` just the one L separating you from a really, really great score. But still a fantastic score. Cass, thank you so much for playing Spellbinder. - Thank you. - After a near-perfect score, Cass has 140 points; Blake is on 100 points, Jasper has 90 points, and Hannah is on 80 points. So, unfortunately, Hannah, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters today. Just missing out by 10 points. But you do get to go home with a $100 bank account, so what are you going to do with that money, Hannah? - Probably buy something nice for my friend for her birthday. - What a lovely choice, Hannah. And a massive shout-out to your friend for her birthday. Congratulations to our three remaining players as well. For them, as one step closer to the Brain Buster. - One down, three to go ` which means very soon, the top two will be joining me here to take on this beast. - Sure are, Mikey. Before we can get to the Brain Buster beast, though, we have a thing called our Brain Teaser. Now, all of our players have gone through their specialist subject rounds today, and we're left with two options for our players to choose from today. They are... So, Jasper, Blake and Cass, please pick which one you would like to play now. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Thank you, everyone, for voting. Let's take a look first at Jasper,... who has chosen Sequencer. Blake has voted for... Sequencer as well. Cass ` already nodding, but what has she picked? Sequencer. There it is ` three for three. Let's play Sequencer. It's currently very close for second and third. Who will go through and who will be eliminated? Can Jasper and Blake catch Cass as well? We're about to find out right now. Best of luck. Here comes your first sequence. - Jasper? - Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, then Jacinda Ardern became the Prime Minister of New Zealand, then Japan hosted the Rugby World Cup. - In what order did these events take place? Is Jasper correct? Buzzing in very quick. Yes, indeed. Nice start, Jasper. In what order were these kitchen appliances patented? - Blake. - The microwave, the electric oven, and the blender? - Blake wants to get in on the points as well. Can he do so? Unfortunately not. Sorry, Blake. In what order did these Star Wars films come out? Cass. - The Force Awakens, The Rise of Skywalker, and The Last Jedi. - Cass trying to extend her lead... ...but needed to swap The Rise of Skywalker and the last Jedi around. In what order were these buildings the tallest building in the world? Blake. - Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Empire State Building, and Burj Khalifa, Dubai. - Blake knows he needs the points here. Can he do it? Needed to swap around Empire State Building and Petronas Towers. Sorry, Blake. And that does wrap it up. Thank you so much for playing that one. Let's take a look now at our updated leaderboards. We have a change in the leaderboard! Jasper now holds first place, with 120 points; Cass is on 110 points, and Blake has 40 points. Had to go for it, Blake, but unfortunately couldn't quite get there, so I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. A $100 bank account, though ` it is all yours, so what are you gonna do with the money, Blake? - Uh, probably future savings. Might put it towards something in the future. - Nice thinking, Blake. Thanks so much for playing. Congratulations to Jasper and Cass. For them, it is on to the Brain Buster. - Our final two are about to take on the Brain Buster, but will they be able to perform under the pressure? We'll find out soon. We'll find out soon. * Welcome back to the show. The moment has finally arrived ` it all comes down to the Brain Buster! (EXCITING MUSIC) - I'm joined here with our two finalists, Jasper and Cass. Now, Jasper, you're really into tennis, bro? - Yup. - Hey, topspin or slice? - Oh, topspin all the way. - Whew! I hope you topspin your way through the Brain Buster, man. And same to you, Cass. Drawing is your thing? - Yep. - Favourite things to draw? - Buildings and patterns. - Buildings and patterns. Well, let's hope that you sketch your way through the Brain Buster to victory. Best of luck to both of you. Let's jump on our ziplines and do this thing. Here we go! And they're off on the Brainstem Zipline, which is only the beginning of this Brain Buster. Jasper's quick to remove his harness and hurries down the Neurotransmitter, followed by Cass. After tackling the Molecule Steps, both players need to remember their codes. Looks like Jasper is out in front for now, but Cass is picking up speed as she heads for the Hippocampus. Let's see if she has that code ready to go. (BEEPING) - Oh yeah! And Jasper? Sweet as. Who's going to make it up the Parietal Lobe first? It's pretty close! The tunnel is up now, and Cass has snuck ahead as Jasper rushes for the Frontal Lobe. Could be a close call. Only a few steps away from the DNA Molecule Ladder, where the switches are waiting for them. Cass is edging closer. She needs to change the lights ASAP! Jasper slipped! And there's the cue for Cass to finish the race. Jasper's a bit caught up on the poles, which is good news for Cass as she heads into the Basal Ganglia and straight for the end! Jasper's back on his feet, but there's no stopping Cass. Congrats! (UPBEAT ELECTRONIC MUSIC) - It was looking good for Jasper there at the start of the race until Cass stole the lead from him near the tunnel. Anything can happen here on this Brain Buster. Well done, guys! Over to you, Chris. - There we go ` Jasper finishing as well. Bring it across this way, Jasper. Yeah, we'll start with you as well. Firstly, that was some pretty smooth sliding under our last part of the obstacle course there. And also, tell me ` how was the race for you? You had the lead at the start. Then it slipped away. - Yeah. It was good fun. Love to do it again. Yeah. - Awesome. Well, hey, Jasper, thank you so much for coming on to the show. Second place for you today. $100 bank account as well ` it is all yours, so what are you gonna do with that money, Jasper? - Towards a new camera lens. Great choice! All the best with the photography... - Thank you. - ...as well, Jasper. Cass, congratulations ` you are today's Brain Buster Champion. Did you think you were gonna be able to catch up to Jasper when he had that early lead? - No, I actually didn't. I thought I was gonna be, like, completely last. But... - Well, you weren't. Change of fortune, and here you are. Congratulations ` You've taken out today's Brain Buster Champion. So for Cass, it is on to Amygdala. (EXCITING MUSIC) Cass, congratulations on making it to Amygdala. Did you ever think you were gonna be able to get this far? - Not at all. (CHUCKLES) - But here you are. How does it feel? - Uh, amazing, really. Yup. - Amazing. Gonna feel even more amazing when I tell you how much you're playing for ` $230, Cass. (MOUTHS) - Now, of course, you scored 110 points throughout the course of today's show, and Jasper scored 120 points, and the cool thing is you get to take all of Jasper's points, combine those two for $230. Are you ready to take on Amygdala, Cass? - Yes. - Let's do it. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Complete the children's song title ` Head, Shoulders, Knees and... ...Toes. - Nice easy one to start. Next up ` in a French restaurant, what are escargot? - French bread? - Sounded like a little bit of guess. Take you haven't had escargot before? Not French bread. It is, in fact, snails. - Oh. - Never forget that one now. - Nope. (GIGGLES) What movie snack food makes a loud noise when being heated? - Popcorn. - How good is popcorn? Delicious. - Yep. - Is it the answer we're looking for here, though? Hope so. Yes, it is popcorn. Two to go. Sodium chloride is the chemical name for which common flavour enhancer? - Salt. - This one would take us past $100. And it is correct! Your final Amygdala question ` how many years in three decades? - 30. - 30? - (DING!) - It is correct. Yes, congratulations. As we take a look ` $138. Cass, it is all yours. So what are you going to do with the money? - Probably buy the concert tickets and then just... treat myself, I guess. Go to the mall or something. Yeah. - Absolutely. You deserve it, Cass. Great effort. Thank you so much for coming on the show as well. You've been great. - Good work, Cass. I guess we won't forget what escargot is now, right? - (LAUGHS) - Definitely not. - Hey, if you think you can tackle the Brain Buster just like our girl Cass, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today.
