Who has the mind power to make it all the way through the rounds and ends up at this ` the Brain Buster? - Chilling out with your man, Mikey Falesiu. Will our top two players be able to handle the pressure of the ultimate obstacle course? I guess we'll find out soon. Let the games begin. - Sounds good to me, Mikey. Thank you very much. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. Captions by Sophie Pearce. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today we have four more players battling it out to see if they can be called the ultimate Brain Buster. Now as always, we'll start with our specialist subject rounds where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to get enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. First up, Dominic. Welcome to the show, Dominic. How we feeling about being here on Brain Busters? - I'm so excited to be here right now. It's, like, amazing. - Awesome. Right into your Italian food. If you had to pick, pizza or pasta? - Pasta. - Nice choice. Great to have you here, Dominic. Also Beth'el, welcome. All the way from Rotorua. - Yeah. - What do you love about Rotorua, Beth'el? - The geysers and the tourists. We're top in the world. - Awesome. Good luck for you on the show. We also have Poppy. Welcome, Poppy. What do you like doing in your spare time? - I like to play a lot of hockey. - I'm not gonna lie, Poppy. Hockey scares me. I'm scared the ball's gonna, like, hit me in the face of something. Has that ever happened to you? - Yeah, I broke my teeth, but just... nothing major. - My point proven, Poppy. (CHUCKLES) My point proven. I'm sure that's not gonna happen on the show today though, OK? - Yeah, hopefully. - (LAUGHS) And we also have Pratyush. Welcome to the show, Pratyush. Now your shirt is very cool and it does something, right? - Yeah. - Can we see? - It just... - Magic. - ... flips over. Yeah. - Awesome. Also a big cricket fan. - Yeah. - Favourite player? - Kane Williamson. - Nice choice. Good luck to all of our players now as we head into our first round of the day, it's Mega Memory. 90 seconds on the clock, team. Best of luck. Your time starts... now. What name is given to the three sticks standing in the ground in cricket? - Pratyush. - The wickets. - (DING!) - Which of Doc McStuffins parents is also a doctor? - Dominic. - Her mum. - (DING!) - Which New Zealand city is named after Plymouth in England? - Pratyush. - New Plymouth. - (DING!) - In 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to allow` - Pratyush. - Allow women the right to vote. - (DING!) - What vegetable are French fries made from? - Pratyush. - Potatoes. - (DING!) A giant sequoia called General Sherman is the world's largest what? - (BUZZ!) - Tree. What number month in the year is May? - Pratyush. - Five. - (DING!) - What type of food is basmati? - Poppy. - Rice. - (DING!) - What shaky natural phenomena is measured on the Richter scale? - Pratyush. - Earthquakes. - (DING!) - What phrase from The Lion King means, 'No worries for the rest of your days'? - Poppy. - Hakuna matata. - (DING!) - Just in time, and that is time up on a very speedy round of Mega Memory. Thank you all for playing. Let's take a look at the leaderboard. Pratyush has the lead with 60 points. Poppy is on 20 points. Dominic is on 10 points, and Beth'el is on a zero points. So I think we should change that for Beth'el right now as we move into our specialist subject rounds. Beth'el, what have you chosen to play. - Reo Rangatira. Thank you very much. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Beth'el, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) How are the nerves, Beth'el? - Uh, calmed down. - Calmed down, that's good. All right, time to focus. 20 points for each question. You got this. Here's your first. What is a Maori word for water? - Wai. (DING!) - That's the start we want. Tuawha is fourth. What is fifth? Tuarima. (DING!) - Two in a row. What New Zealand city is also known as Kirikiriroa? - Um... Gisborne. - (BUZZ!) - Hamilton. - Oh. - What is an English word for manawa and ngakau? - Heart. - (DING!) - Sure is. Na wai a Ranginui rawa kau Papatuanuku e whaka wehe? - Tane Mahuta. - (DING!) - Kia ora. What is a karakia? - It's a prayer. - (DING!) - It sure is. And just like that, Reo Rangatira is complete. Beth'el, well done. You can take a step back to your podium. Beth'el now has the lead with 100 points. Pratyush is on 60 points, Poppy has 20 points, and Dominic is on 10 points. So next we have Dominic. What have you chosen? - Spellbinder. - Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. Dominic, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Spelling. Think we're pretty good at it? - Average. - Average. Might need to be better than average if you wanna win Brain Busters. I'm sure you'll do a great job, Dominic. Best of luck. 20 points for each word that you spell correct. Here we go. Billionaire. (BUZZ!) A-I-R-E. Percussion. - (DING!) - Correct. Spell 'foreign'. - (DING!) - Well done. Your final word is... mercury. (BUZZ!) M-E-R-C-U-R-Y for 'mercury' there. Dominic, tricky round there for Spellbinder. Probably spelling a little bit too fast. I think you definitely could have got a few more words as well, but still, thank you very much for playing. - Thank you. - You can take a step back to your podium, Dominic. Beth'el still has the lead with 100 points. Pratyush is on 60 points. Dominic has 50 points, and Poppy has 20 points. Already halfway through our specialist subject rounds, and all of our players are wondering if they are going to have what it takes to get to the Brain Buster. - Getting closer to that time where our final two contestants will be racing through the Brain Buster. Only one can be crowned champion though. Can't wait, Chris. - Neither can I, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just head online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you right after the break. * Nai mai hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Now just before the break, we had Beth'el and Dominic take on their specialist subject rounds and needs to come to the front is Poppy. So what have you chosen to play, Poppy? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much. Let's play Equaliser. Poppy, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) So quickly tell me the story. What happened with the teeth and the hockey ball? - I was just running back and this girl lifted her stick a bit too high and smacked me right in the mouth. - Ohh. - Yeah. - Gotta hurt. - Yeah, it was bad, but you know... - OK. Put that in the past now. - Yeah. - Don't have to worry about it. New game, which is, of course, Brain Busters. Equaliser coming at you. 20 points for each correct equation. Here's your first one. - (DING!) - Correct. - (DING!) - Is correct. - (DING!) - You got it. (BUZZ!) (BUZZ!) Tricky one there. Your last Equaliser is... - (DING!) - That is absolutely correct. Congratulations, Poppy. Couple of tricky ones in there, but you still did a fantastic job. Thank you for playing Equaliser. Beth'el and Poppy share the lead with 100 points. Pratyush is on 60 points, and Dominic is on 50 points. So we just have Pratyush left to play his specialist subject round, and what have you chosen? - Identifier. - Thank you. Let's play Identifier. Pratyush, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Well, Pratyush, you're clearly very good about defying cool shirts, but can you identify today's answers? Let's find out. Good luck. Here comes your first Identifier. Had to have a think about it. Let's see. (DING! DING!) - (BUZZ!) - Just needed to swap artichoke out for Bovril. Get some points here, Pratyush. (DING! DING! DING!) Yes. Well done. Know the pH scale well, Pratyush? - I think so. - We'll find out. (DING! DING! DING!) Sure do. Hoping to increase that score even more. (DING! DING! DING!) And Pratyush does. Can you get back on track? (DING! DING! DING!) Sure can. Well played, Pratyush. Don't think it could be a shoe lightbulb? - No. - (LAUGHS) - Pretty confident of that. - Good to hear. - (DING! DING! DING!) - And good to see it is right as well. Pratyush, well done, a great round of Identifier. Pratyush, bringing it home in style, but where is he on the leaderboard? Let's see. Pratyush retakes the lead and has 160 points. Beth'el has 100 points, Poppy has 100 points, and Dominic is on 50 points. So unfortunately we do have to eliminate someone now, and that is you, Dominic. It's been great having you on the show. You get to go home with a $100 bank account though, so what are you gonna do with that money? - Probably spend it all on Maccas with me and my best friends. - (LAUGHS) Brilliant answer. I love your honesty as well, Dominic. Cheers for coming on the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. It's just one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Three players remaining, but only the top two will be racing to see who will be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion. - We will be finding that out very soon, Mikey. And to help with that, we have our Brain Teaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds and we are left with two for our players to choose from. Today those options are Blueprinter or Sequencer. So, Beth'el, Poppy and Pratyush, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for casting those votes. Let's firstly take a look at Beth'el... who voted for Blueprinter. Poppy has chosen... Sequencer. So it comes down to Pratyush who has picked... Blueprinter. There you have it. Let's play Blueprinter. Best of luck, everyone. So, we're gonna have 30 seconds to memorise our Blueprinter for the Brain Teaser and then do your best to give me those answers. Good luck. Let's take a look at the Blueprinter. Your time starts now. Aotearoa is one of the best places in the world to stargaze, and our southern sky claims the three brightest stars: Sirius, Canopus, and Alpha Centauri. One of our star constellations, the Southern Cross, even features on the national flag. (TENSE MUSIC) Five seconds left. Time is up. So, please buzz in when you think you know the answer. 30 points if you get it right. Buzz in and get it incorrect, you will lose 30 points. Here comes your first one now. What is this? Pratyush. - Aquarius. - (DING!) - It is indeed Aquarius. Well done. Your second one. Pratyush again. - Capricornus. - Can you get two in a row? - (DING!) - Great job, Pratyush. Third. Poppy. - Grus. - (DING!) - Well done, Poppy. Poppy again. - Sagittarius. - (DING!) - It is Sagittarius. Just one more to go. This please. Poppy. - Pavo. - (DING!) - Congratulations. Well done, Poppy. Thank you all for playing our Blueprinter round for the Brain Teaser. Let's take a look now at those scores. Pratyush moves out to 220 points. Poppy is now on 190 points, and Beth'el is on 100 points. So I'm sorry to say, Beth'el, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. They didn't give you a chance to buzz in on that round there, but that's OK. You get to go home with a $100 bank account, so what are you going to do with that money? - I'm not sure what I want right now, so I might save it. - Very wise idea. Beth'el, thank you so much for coming on to the show. And congratulations to you, Poppy, and to you, Pratyush. For you guys, it is through to the Brain Buster - Who out of our two players will be leaving us today's Brain Buster champion? Don't move a muscle because we'll be right back. * And the answer is a bull market. Welcome back to the show. You're just in time for the big one ` it's the Brain Buster. (EXCITING MUSIC) - I'm up here with the final two players, Poppy and Pratyush. Now, Poppy, design is your thing, right? - Yeah, I do. I really enjoy it. - What got you into design? - Well, I just kept saying it in magazines and on TV, and then I thought I'd maybe try it out. - Nice. You like the design of the Brain Buster? - Yeah. - Ready to take it out? - Awesome. Yeah, I'm ready. - All the best. And Pratyush ` chess, my man. I've heard you pretty good. - Yeah, I'm pretty good. - Do you think you can take out the Brain Buster? - Yup. - Awesome attitude. Best of luck to you both. Let's jump up on to our zip lines and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three, two, one. Fly! Poppy and Pratyush, you've both done pretty well so far today. Will you be able to keep that up or will the Brain Buster be too much to handle? Only one can make it through. Who's it gonna be? First blaze down the Neurotransmitters, starting strong as the carry on across the Molecule Steps. Pratyush checking out his code. And Poppy hops through the Corpus Callosum at top speed as well. Hippocampus time. Have our players remembered their codes? Yes, and yes. Pratyush profusely pushes himself up the Parietal Lobe, past Poppy. As hard as that was to say, it's nothing compared to what these two are putting themselves through here. Pratyush at the top now, but so is Poppy. Let's hope you don't lose any teeth in here like you did when playing hockey, Poppy. Wow, these two are fast and fearless. Shooting across the Frontal Lobe now, on their way to those DNA Molecule switches. You can feel the competition. Whoever manages to activate their switch first will have a big advantage. Oh! Pratyush and Poppy's both activate. It'll be a sprint to the finish. There's one obstacle left, which is the Basal Ganglia. Under, over, under... Who's it going to be, Chris? - Wow, what a race that was! Poppy, just getting there, as we can see by the smoke. I'll get you to come across this way, Poppy. Pratyush, you stay right there. What a race, guys. That was neck and neck the whole way. I think you both pretty much mirroring each other for that whole race. Pratyush, we'll start with you, if you can catch your breath. How was the obstacle course? - It was great, yeah. Lots of fun. - Great fun. Enjoyed it? - Yeah. How were thinking when you saw Poppy right beside each other at the end there? - I thought it was going to be close and I had to dash for the finish. - You did and almost got there as well. Unfortunately, couldn't quite do it though. Second place today on Brain Busters, so Pratyush you get yourself a $100 bank account. So what are you going to do with that money? - I'm probably going to save it for something I want later on in the future, yeah. - Wise words. Congratulations, Pratyush. Poppy. What a win. Did you think you were gonna make it? - I wasn't sure. I saw us both really close to the end, so... - Yeah, like I said before, you guys are right beside each other. Congratulations. So just one more thing left for Poppy to do and that is Amygdala. Poppy, congratulations on making it here to the Amygdala. - Thank you. - All done without breaking any teeth either. - Yeah, that's always a plus. - (LAUGHS) Indeed. What an effort it was as well. A great race between you and Pratyush. Just 85 milliseconds separating you and Pratyush. - Oh, wow! - So very, very close race. So let's get down to what you're playing for. So Pratyush actually scored more points than you leading up to this point, 220 to be exact. You scored 190 points, so we combined that together. $410 is the maximum amount of money you can walk away with. - That's a lot of money. - It is a lot of money. Shall we try and win you as much as we can? - Yeah, I reckon. - Let's get into it. Best of luck, Poppy. Which cartoon character's grandparents are Granny Pig and Grandpa Pig? - Peppa Pig. - (DING!) - Correct. Which game is sometimes called ping pong? - Table tennis. - (DING!) - Well done. What game was often traditionally played by balancing and catching the ankle bones of sheep? - Knucklebones. - (DING!) - You got it. Winners at the Academy Awards received a gold plated statuette with what nickname? - (CHUCKLES) I don't know, maybe... I don't know. The Grammys, or something. I don't know. (BUZZ!) - I think you're gonna kick yourself when I say this. Oscar. - (GROANS) I knew that one. - In which sport would you compete in the State of Origin series? - Aussie Rules. - Bit of a guess, that one? - Yeah. - Good guess. Is it the right guess though? - (BUZZ!) - Not quite. Very close. Rugby League is what it was. In Roman mythology, twins Romulus and Remus were raised by what kind of animal? Worth a guess, Poppy. - Um... Apes. - What made you say that one? - I have no idea. I just thought they were kind of like humans, I guess. - Fair reason to say that. - (BUZZ!) - Not correct though. Wolf was the answer. - Oh. - Which 2002 animated movie is set during Earth's big freeze and stars a sabre tooth tiger, a sloth and a woolly mammoth? - Ice Age. - You've seen all the Ice Age movies? - Yeah, I have. - Favourite character? - Um... Definitely Sid the sloth. - It's gotta be Sid. - Yeah. - But is Ice Age what we're after? - (DING!) - Yes, it is. In which country did Fuji apples originate? - Japan. - Japan. Many, many countries you could have said. You've said Japan. - Yeah. - Why did you say Japan? - I just took a guess. I didn't actually really know. - (DING!) - Always worth a guess. Well done. How many seasons did the show Friends run for? - Eight seasons. - A lot of hesitation, that answer. - (CHUCKLES) That was another guess. - Guessing's fine as long as we get it correct. Have we done it this time? (BUZZ!) 10. - Oh. - Just two away. Very close. Your final Amygdala question, Poppy. You've done great. Here we go. Was the most recent Star Wars movie called The Rise of Skywalker or The Size of Skywalker? - (CHUCKLES) The Rise of Skywalker. - What made you laugh at that one? - I just don't think a movie would be called The Size of Skywalker. - Fair point. But you never know. People get creative with their movie titles these days. - Yeah, that's true. - (DING!) - Not with this though. Of course The Rise of Skywalker. As we take a look at the screen, $246. Wowee, Poppy, it is all yours. What are you going to do with all that money? - Um... Probably go on a shopping spree. - Fair enough. Well deserved as well, Poppy. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. - Thank you. - Look after those teeth as well, all right. - Well done, Poppy. You happy with that performance? - Yeah, definitely. - Awesome work. If you think you can take on the Brain Buster, just like our girl Poppy, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's us for Brain Busters. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Thank you NZ On Air.
