Today we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. Firstly ` Henry, welcome to the game. - Hi. - I hear you're really keen on shoes. - Ah, yes. Yeah, I've got a lot of shoes. Yeah. Some say too many. - (LAUGHS) There's no such thing, Henry. - Yeah, no. From, like, the US to Australia. - Got a lot of shoes, yeah. - Wow. I know you and Mikey will definitely get along there. Great to gave you on the show, Henry. We also have Rahima. Welcome to the show. - Love to bake? - Yep. - What's your favourite thing to bake, Rahima? - I like to bake cakes. I like to decorate them. - Awesome. Have a favourite? - Um, no, not really. - Just anything you can get your hands on to bake? - I like to try anything. Yep. - Yeah. Nice. I like it. Awesome, Rahima. Ashton, welcome to the game. Right into your basketball? - Yeah, real into basketball. - Yeah. - Started playing a couple of years ago. Got really into it ` practise in my free hours, and I just love it as a sport as itself. - Awesome. Love watching it as well? - Love watching NBA. - Yeah. Favourite team? - Philadelphia 76ers. - Awesome choice. And Larissa ` great to have you here on the show as well. Love animals? - Yeah. - Favourite animal? - Probably a giraffe, just cos it's so tall and big. - They're pretty special, right? - Yeah. - Very interesting and unique animals as well. Well, great to have you all here. Let's get straight into Brain Busters now, and play our first round. It's Mega Memory. 10 points if our players buzz in and get the answer correct, but if they buzz in and get it wrong, they will lose 10 points. Let's get straight into it now. 90 seconds on the clock. Your time starts now. What country is the home of the tortilla and tacos? - Ashton. - Mexico. - Which of these is a game for the Nintendo Switch ` Arms or Legs? - Henry. - Arms. - Hiccup and Toothless are characters from which film trilogy? Henry. - How to Train a Dragon. - What food is used for the base of guacamole? - Ashton. - Avocado. - Name the 2013 animated film about a garden snail. - Ashton. - Turbo. - Which New Zealand city is known as the Windy City? - Henry. - Wellington. - In SpongeBob SquarePants, the Krusty Krab is famous for which food? - Ashton. - Krabby Patty. - How many days are in the month of April? - Larissa. - 30. - On what shaped board would you play a game of draughts? - Larissa. - Star. - Square. What type of competitions feature in the Pitch Perfect movies? - Henry. - Singing. - In which war was The Boy in Striped Pyjamas set? (BUZZER) - Ashton. - World War Two. Is the correct answer. And that is Mega Memory. Thank you all for playing very much. Let's take a look now at the scores. It's Ashton with the early lead on 50 points. Henry is close behind on 40 points. Then we have Rahima and Larissa both on zero points. So, time now to move into our specialist subject rounds. And going first today is Rahima. So what have you chosen to play, Rahima? - Spellbinder. - Awesome. Let's play Spellbinder. Rahima, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) So, first up today, Rahima. How are the nerves? - I'm really nervous. - Excited and ready to go, though? - Yep. - Excellent. 20 points for each word you spell correct. Here comes your first word. Cloudy. - Correct. Paling. - Didn't need the I. P-A-L-I-N-G Creativity. - Good work. Crevasse. - C-R-E-V-A-S-S-E, for crevasse. Finally, reverse. - Nice way to finish, Rahima. Very close on a couple of words there as well. - Still a great job. Thank you very much for playing Spellbinder. - Thank you. Rahima finds herself in first place with 60 points. Ashton has 50 points. Henry has 40 points, and Larissa has zero points; so I think it's time to change that now. Larissa, what will you be playing? - Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Larissa, please step forward. (INTENSE MUSIC) So, are we hoping for some animal related questions to pop up? - Yeah. - Fingers crossed. No promises, though, but let's get into Identifier. 20 points for each correct answer. Here we go. Larissa trying to get that first lot of points. And Larissa gets them. Larissa changing out some answers there. I think she may have needed to reread that question again. And a good thing, too. Well done, Larissa. Correct again. Well done, Larissa. Hoping to get back on track. And we do. Just the one simple swap there for Larissa. Was it the right move to make? Indeed, it was. You've done a fantastic job so far in Identifier. This is our final answer, locked in. And it is also the correct answer. Larissa, a fantastic job. Thank you very much for playing Identifier. Larissa moves into first place with 120 points. Then we have Rahima on 60 points. Ashton has 50 points, and Henry has 40 points. So some very close scores there, indeed. And all of our players are wondering if they're going to have enough points to head to the Brain Buster. - It's not going to be easy for our final two, turning their points into dollars. This bad boy right here is a whole 'nother level. Chris, they've got to work extremely hard for it. Better let them know. - Will do, Mikey. Thanks for that. And don't forget ` you can play from home as well. Simply head online to ` Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * Nau mai, haere mai and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Rahima and Larissa take on their specialist subject rounds, and next to play is Henry. So, Henry, what have you chosen? - Sequencer. - Thank you very much. Let's play Sequencer. Henry, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) So, Henry, imagine you've got your pick of any shoes in the world. What are you picking? - I'd probably pick up some Yeezys. I think they'd be a cool shoe. - Need a little bit more money than the Brain Busters' money to get them. - LAUGHS: Oof. - All right. Best of luck as we go into Sequencer now. Here comes your first one. Order these female pop artists by age, from youngest to oldest. Whole lot of swapping around happened just there. Youngest to oldest was the question,... and that is what you've done. In what order did Germany invade these countries during World War Two? How good's your history? - (HISSES THROUGH TEETH) World War Two history is pretty good. But, yeah. - I like the confidence. Correct. Order the answers for these expressions, highest to lowest. Have to work out all sorts today for Sequencer. - Yes. Correct. Well done. Order these Lady Gaga songs by release date, earliest to latest. - Look at that. Well done, Henry. - Ooh! - In which order did these events occur in New Zealand? New Zealand history now. - How does that compare to your World War Two history? - I don't know. I think my social studies teacher would be` I don't know, but I'm guessing she might not be that happy, but I don't know. Find out. - Fingers crossed. - No. - Unfortunately not the right order there. Labour Day first, then Aoraki Mt Cook first climbed, followed by the first New Zealand governor general appointed. In what order were these home viewing options released? Ever watch something on a VHS tape before? - Can't say I have, no. - Seen a DVD, though? - Yes, I have. Yes. - I'm guessing a Blu-ray as well. - Yeah. No surprise. That is the correct order for our final Sequencer as well. Henry, fantastic job. - Thank you. - Thank you very much for playing. You can take a step back to your podium. Henry now jumps into the lead with 140 points. Larissa is on 120 points. Rahima has 60 points, and Ashton is on 50 points. So, just one more player needs to come forward to take on their specialist subject round. That is Ashton. What have you chosen to play, Ashton? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much. Let's play Equaliser. Ashton, please step forward. (INTENSE MUSIC) So, Ashton, are we more of, like, a lay-up kind of a guy, or shooting those three points? - Oh, I'm not very good at the three pointers yet, so I'm more comfortable with the lay-ups. - Awesome. Well, let's hope for a bit more than three points today in Equaliser. I'm sure you'll do great. So, let's get straight into it. Here comes your first equation. - 92. - Correct. - 498. - Well done. - 421. - Great job. - 247. - Very fast on these equations. - Four. - One. Final equation here ` - 47. Correct. Ashton, well done. Started off incredibly well, lost your way a little bit in the middle, but then brought it home really strong. Thank you very much for playing Equaliser. A great way to finish our specialist subject rounds, so let's take a look now at the leaderboard. Ashton has now jumped into the lead with 150 points. Henry is close behind on 140 points. Then we have Larissa on 120 points, and Rahima is on 60 points. So, Rahima, I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. And, of course, you get to go home with a $100 bank account. So what are you going to do with the money, Rahima? - I'm gonna be saving it up. - Wise choice, indeed, Rahima. Thank you once again for coming onto the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - One down, three to go. The heat just got turned up for our three remaining players because the top two will be joining me very soon to take on this beast. - Very soon, indeed, Mikey. But we do need to find those two players, and to help us, we have the brainteaser. Now, all of our players have gone through their special subject rounds, and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Today those options are the Reo Rangatira and Blueprinter. So, Henry, Ashton and Larissa, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you very much, everyone. Firstly, let's take a look and see what Henry has chosen ` Blueprinter. Ashton has voted for... Reo Rangatira, so it comes down to Larissa, who has chosen... Blueprinter. Thank you all for your votes. Let's play Blueprinter. A very close game on our hands here for Brain Busters today. So, who will be going home? Let's find out now. You're going to have 30 seconds to have a look at our Blueprinter, and then it's winner take all. Who can buzz in and give me those answers? Let's get straight into it now, and see what our Blueprinter is. It is the Prague Castle. Best of luck. Your time starts now. Held in St. Vitus Cathedral, the Bohemian Crown Jewels include the St. Wenceslas Crown, royal sceptre and coronation cloak. The precious jewels are locked by sets of seven locks, and each key is held by one of seven people. All seven key holders must be present for the unlocking process. Ten seconds remaining. (ALARM RINGS) And time is up. Best of luck to you. Please tell me what this one is. - Ashton. - That is the Royal Garden. - Ashton extending that lead. Nicely done. Next one, please. - Ashton again. - Imperial Stables. Sure is the Imperial Stables. Third. - Ashton once more. - St Vitus Cathedral. - Ashton on a roll here. Next one. - Henry. - Golden Lane. - Well done, Henry. One more. - Ashton again. - South Gardens. - South Gardens is correct. Speedy round of Blueprinter, indeed, for the brainteaser. Thank you all for playing. Let's take a look now at our final scores. Ashton has a whopping 270 points. Henry now has 170 points. Then we have Larissa on 120 points. So, Larissa, I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Boys just didn't give you a chance to buzz in on time! - No. - But that's all right. You still get to go home with a $100 bank account. So what will you be doing with the money, Larissa? - I'll probably either save it or buy a heat lamp to raise some chicks. - Oh, that's a really great option! - Yeah. - You'll have to send us some photos if that's the way you go, OK? - OK. - Thank you very much, Larissa. And congratulations to Henry and Ashton. For them, it's on to the Brian Buster. - Our final two will be taking on the Brain Buster. But will they be able to perform under the pressure? I guess we'll find out soon. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. I guess we'll find out soon. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. * Nau mai, hoki mai and welcome back to the show. We are down to our final two players, who are waiting and are ready for the Brain Buster! - Our final two contestants have their game faces on, so less talk, more action. Let's get ready to fly. Three, two, one, fly! Henry is a shoe fanatic, just like myself, of course, and Ashton loves playing and watching basketball. This race should be good. Our two finalists start off by zooming down the neurotransmitters and on to the molecule steps. Balancing is on point. Ashton's first to get his unique code, and now entering the Corpus Callosum ` Henry only moments behind. Hopefully you've both memorised your codes for the Hippocampus. Can Ashton the b-baller get a slam dunk? Swish! Henry's turn. Nice! Henry loves his kicks, but can he put them to good use up the Parietal Lobe? Ashton makes it up and heads straight into the tunnel, while Henry's still climbing the wall. Clever footwork is important here, and here. Ashton is carefully crossing the Frontal Lobe, and here comes Henry. He needs to regain that lost time. Ashton's already trying the DNA molecule switches... and unlocks the next part of the course. Henry's in trouble now because the finish line is in reach for Ashton. The Basal Ganglia is the last obstacle, and Ashton is today's Brain Buster winner. Piece of cake. Henry's now on the ladder. There go the lights. Unfortunately, he was no match for Ashton today. Hard luck, Henry, but great work keeping up the pace and still finishing with a good time. Impressive stuff, Chris. - Boom! There we go, Henry. Nice work. Come across this way, Henry. Stand right in beside Ashton, here. Nice work. Race complete. Thank you both for competing. Henry, it's pretty tough, isn't it? - Yeah, it is. It was a lot more tough than I was expecting. - Good fun, though? - Lot of fun, yeah. - Plus the shoes looked absolutely on point on that course as well. Henry, it's been great having you on the show. - Thank you. - Second place means you're scoring yourself a $100 bank account. - Thank you. - What are you do with that money, Henry? - Ooh, probably buy some new shoes. - No surprises there at all. Henry, great having you on the show. Ashton, congratulations. You have beaten the Brain Buster. How does it feel? - Oh, quite` I was quite nervous at the start, but once I got through, kind of calmed down, it was really fun. - Yeah. Take each stage at its face value, and you did a fantastic job. Ashton, congratulations. One more task left for you to do, and that is, of course, Amygdala. Welcome, Ashton, to Amygdala. - Thanks. - Great to have you here. I need to ask, what would be better, though ` scoring a buzzer beater or being here right now on Brain Busters? - Well, if I could be scoring a buzzer beater, it'd be on the Celtics right now. - (LAUGHS) - But right now, I like where I am. - Fair enough. All right. Well, let's get into it. You scored 270 points. A fantastic effort, especially in that brainteaser there. You cleaned up a whole lot of points. Henry also made a great effort scoring 170 points, which means you're playing for a grand total of $440. - It's a lot of money. - It sure is. So let's try and see how much we can win for you, OK? - Definitely. - Best of luck, Ashton. Here comes your first question. How many centimetres make up a metre? - 100. - Correct. Which movie sees a hot-shot racecar named Lightning McQueen get waylaid in Radiator Springs? - Cars. - Is correct. Fantastic movie as well. Love that one. What type of food is basmati? - Rice. - It sure is. Which well-known British chef had a TV show called The Naked Chef? - Jamie Oliver? - Think you know this one, or was that a bit of a guess? - That was a complete guess. - Complete guess. - Yes. - Into your cooking shows? - Not really. - And you've locked in Jamie Oliver. Luck's on your side. Jamie Oliver is correct. What fruit's nickname is the same as our national flightless bird? - Kiwi fruit, or kiwi. - Kiwi? - Kiwi. - Correct. What kind of animal is Hamtaro, in the Hamtaro video games? - Is he a pig? - A pig? - Yeah. Guessing from ham. I have no idea, though. - Guessing from ham, so pig. - Yeah. OK. I can see the logic. - Ham-ster. - Aw! - Of course! - Of course. All right, final one. Name New Zealand's tallest structure. The Sky Tower. - Sky Tower. Impressive structure. - Very. - Think it's the tallest? - 100% confident. - Seen it in person? - No. - You're 100% sure. - Yes. - (DING!) - So am I. Of course it is correct. Congratulations! $264. Ashton, well done. Well played, as well. What are you going to do with the money? - I'm going to save it for the point of savings, right now. - Nice. Very wise indeed. Ashton, thank you so much for coming on the show. Congratulations. $264. - Thanks. - And remember, if you want to be crowned as a Brain Buster champion, jump online and head to Heihei games. Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Thank you, NZ On Air.
