- We start with four, but in the end, there can be only one. Kia ora. I'm Chris Kirk, and this is Brain Busters. Who has the mind power to make it all the way through the rounds and end up at this, the Brain Buster? - What's good, everybody? It's your boy, Mikey Falesiu, Mr Brain Buster. Hopefully our final two are ready for the Ultimate Obstacle Course, so let's get the show on the road. - Let's do it, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play it from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters! Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the Ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we make our way into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet today's players. Firstly, Siena, great to have you here on the show. Now, right into your skiing. Obviously a bit hard to do that at the moment, but what do we love about skiing? - Um, I like going fast and just skiing with my friends and, yeah, the snow's quite fun as well. - Awesome. How long you been doing it for? - I've been doing it since I was about 2, so a long time. - Wow, Siena, you're crazy. I bet you absolutely rip it down the slopes. Next up, Sam, great to have you here on the show. Right into your gaming. What games do we play? - Uh, mainly Destiny. - Nice. And we're a drummer as well? - Yeah. - Are we in any bands or anything? - Um, just a school band. - Do we sound good? - I don't know. - Getting better and better, right? Awesome, Sam. Lachlan, great to have you here on the show. What do you do in your spare time, Lachlan? - Mostly train at the Athletics track, and yeah` - Awesome. So what are our main events we do for Athletics? - Uh, the 100m and the 400m. - All right. How fast are we? - Uh, 13 flat in the 100m race and, um, 58 seconds so far in the 400. - OK. Remind me to never play a game of tag with you, Lachlan. (BOTH CHUCKLE) Ciara, lovely to have you here on the show as well. When not in school, what do you do? - Um, mainly Irish dancing. - How long have we been Irish dancing for? - For roughly nine years. - Wow. And also right into our baking as well. - Yeah. - What do we like to bake? - Um, muffins and cupcakes. - Making me hungry, Ciara. And I'm guessing you guys are hungry and eager to get into Brain Busters, so let's get straight into it and play our first round of the day. It's Mega Memory. Let's put 90 seconds on the clock and get straight into Mega Memory. Your time starts now. Mattel's Barbie is one of the world's most popular what? Lachlan has 20 points. Ciara also has 20 points. Siena has 10 points. And Sam has zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds. And starting us off today will be Sam. What you want to play? - Uh, Identifier. - Thanks, Sam. Let's play Identifier. Sam, please step forward. First up for our specialist round, Sam. How are we feeling? - Mm, good. - Nervous? - A little. - You don't look nervous. Let's get into it, eh? Good luck. 20 points for each one you get correct. (TENSE MUSIC) Correct! A wee shake of the head from Sam. Geography not our strong point? Had Paris. Needed Madrid and Brussels there. Correct! Nicely done, Sam. How we feeling about this one, Sam? Could go either way. That's one, two... Missing out chromium. Needed to be added there. Finally for Identifier... Nicely done. Good way to finish there, Sam. Thank you very much for playing Identifier. Sam's out in front now with 80 points. Lachlan has 20 points. Ciara also has 20 points, and Siena is on 10 points. Time for our second player now to come forward, and that player is Siena. What would you like to play, Siena? - I'll play Spellbinder. - Awesome. Let's play Spellbinder. Siena, please step forward. Should have said, 'Ski on down,' or something. - (CHUCKLES) - How on Earth were you skiing at the age of 2? - I'm not sure, actually. - Just did it? - Yeah. - No fear. Crazy. All right. Good luck, Siena. Let's get into Spellbinder. Your first word is... zebra. - SPELLS: - Correct. Steeple. - SPELLS: - Well done. Librarian. - SPELLS: - Lovely. Canopy. - Could you please, um, get the definition? - An ornamental cloth covering hung or held up over something, especially a throne or bed. - SPELLS: - Just the one N in there, Siena. Your next word is 'marbling'. - SPELLS: - Well done. Diorama. - SPELLS: - Excellent stuff. And your final word, Siena, is 'confront'. - SPELLS: - Super skier and a super speller as well. Siena, well done. Very close to a perfect score there. Thank you for taking on Spellbinder. Siena now has the lead with 130 points. Sam has 80 points. Lachlan has 20 points. And Ciara has 20 points. So two of our players have already taken on these specialist subject rounds, but all four of our players are hoping they can head to the Brain Buster. - It's getting closer to that time where our final two players will be here on the Brain Buster going head to head to be today's champion. Let's hope they're up for the challenge, because it ain't gonna be easy. - No, it won't, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Simply head online to HeiHei Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri e te whakata. * Hoki mai ano. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Sam and Siena take on their specialist subject rounds. And coming up the front next is Lachlan. What would you like to play, Lachlan? - Blueprinter. - Thank you very much. Let's play Blueprinter. Lachlan, please step forward. Thank you for not running too fast forward there, Lachlan. Appreciate that. How on Earth do you run that quick? - Um, just lots of training and practise, I guess. - All right. Now let's see if we can test that memory of yours playing Blueprinter. 30 seconds to have a look at what the blueprint is and then 30 seconds to put in your answers. - OK. - Good luck. Here comes your Blueprinter. Your time starts now. The Otuataua Stonefields and surrounding area have a rich cultural history. Archaeological finds of the gardens, whare and storage pits show how Maori adapted their crops to fit the shorter and colder season. Using the volcanic rocks as stone walls to warm and mulch the soil, extending the growing season by to a month. 10 seconds left. (COUNTDOWN CLOCK BEEPS) Time up there. You'll now have 30 seconds to put your answers in, which starts now. (TENSE MUSIC) Halfway. Not that you needed any more time, Lachlan. Quick to put those answers in, but are they in the right spot? - (EXHALES) - Let's find out now. Rock Forest is correct. So are the Lava Caves. Lava Flows is correct. Ihumatao Papakainga is correct. So is the Avocado Orchard. Off to a great start. Otuataua Pa is right. Can we get a perfect score? Yes, we can! Restoration Area is correct. Lachlan, arms folded, very happy his efforts. Well done. Super speedy and a great memory. Congratulations. Thank you for taking on Blueprinter. - Thank you. - With that perfect score, Lachlan now has 160 points. Siena has 130 points. Sam is on 80 points, and Ciara has 20 points. So there is just one player remaining to take on their specialist subject round, and that player is Ciara. What would you like to play? - Sequencer. - Thank you very much. Let's play Sequencer. Ciara, please step forward. How did we get into Irish dancing, Ciara? - Um, I think it was like friends of Mum and Dad's. Their daughter was doing it, so we just went to watch the show and yeah. - Loved it ever since? - Yeah. - Awesome. All right. Let's hope we love Sequencer now. 20 points for each sequence you get correct. Here is your first one. Put these video games into order of release. Had it around the wrong way, Ciara, unfortunately. That's OK. Moving on to our next one. In which order were these hit songs released? All fantastic songs, if I do say so myself, but is that the order we're after? Sure is. In what order did these geologic periods happen? I can tell you they happened a very, very long time ago. But do we have the right order? Needed to swap Triassic and Jurassic around. Finally for Sequencer... Put the following shows into the order of when they were first on TV. Watched any of the shows? - No. - Do you have the right order? Last one. Well played. Yeah, awesome stuff there. Great to finish strong. Ciara, thank you so much for taking on Sequencer. So that is our specialist subject rounds complete. With that in mind, let's take a look at the leaderboard. Lachlan has 160 points. Siena has 130 points. Sam has 80 points, and Ciara has 60 points. So unfortunately, we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brain Busters. And Ciara, I'm sorry to say it is you. The good news is you've got yourself a $100 bank account. What will you do with that money? - Um, I'm thinking of donating some of it, and then the rest of it I'm just gonna save. - Awesome. What would you like to donate it to, Ciara? - Um, probably Camp Quality. - Very cool. What do they do? - So it's a camp for` It's like all volunteers and they take sick cancer kids and they do a camp in Living Springs in January. - Awesome. Ciara, that's such a lovely idea. Thank you very much for coming on to the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Only three players left, which means we'll see our top two in action very soon. Only one will be cashing out that big prize, though. Can't wait. - Thanks, Mikey. And before we can get to that big prize, we have our Brainteaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we're left with two options for our players to choose from. Today those options are... So Siena, Sam and Lachlan, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Siena, who has decided to play... Reo Rangatira. Sam would like to play... Equaliser. So it comes down to Lachlan, who has chosen... Equaliser. There we go. Let's play Equaliser. Sam's got a little bit of catching up to do. Or can other players hold him off? Let's find out. Good luck. Here comes your first equation. Siena. - Um... Sorry. - Out of time, Siena. 36 is the answer. Sam. - 300. - Is correct. Siena. - 22. - Is correct. Siena. - Six. Oh, eight. - You're right, Siena. It is eight. Thanks, everyone, for taking on the Brainteaser. Let's have a look now at our final leaderboard. Lachlan stays on 160 points. We have Sam on 110 points. And Siena on 100 points. So it was a very close battle there, but unfortunately, Siena, I'm sorry you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. You knew the answer as well! That's OK. The good thing is you've got yourself a $100 bank account. What do you want to do with the money, Siena? - Uh, I'll probably spend it on some ski gear or just some food or something like that. Yeah. - Sweet as, Siena. Thanks for coming on the show. - Thank you. - And congratulations to Sam and Lachlan. For them, it's now onto the Brain Buster. - Only the greats make it this far. Who will be today's Brain Buster champion? Don't go anywhere. * Calculator! - Another financial term for the New Zealand dollar is... the Kiwi. Hoki mai ano. Well, we started with four, but only two remain as they get ready to take on the Brain Buster. - It's show time for our final two players, Sam and Lachlan. Boys, well done on making it this far. You guys proud of yourselves? You guys should be, man. Now, I know, Sam, football is one of your sports. How do you get into that, bro? - Um, when I was younger in primary, I used to compete against the seniors in juniors. - Oh, and look at you now, man. You made it to the Ultimate Obstacle Course. You ready to take it out? - Yeah. - Mm. Quietly confident. And Lachlan, I know rugby is one of your sports, bro. How did you get into that? - Um, just playing with a couple of mates and decided I liked the tackling and all that stuff. Yeah. - Awesome, man. And here you are, ready to tackle the Brain Buster. You ready for it? - CHUCKLES: Yeah. - Awesome, boys. It's now time to jump onto our zip lines and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three, two, one. You can do it! Will it be Sam's destiny to become Brain Buster champion? Or will Lachlan sprint his way into Amygdala? Let's find out. Down the Neurotransmitters and onto the Molecule Steps we go. Two sporty players today. Will their football and rugby skills help them through the Ultimate Obstacle Course? We know how good Lachlan's memory is after that perfect score in Blueprinter. I'm sure he'll have no trouble memorising the codes. Absolutely no worries. And same goes for Sam. The Parietal Lobe is the next challenge for these two. Lachlan makes short work of it, though. Don't fall behind, Sam. You've got this! Through the Tunnel Web goes Sam, as Lachlan sprints across the Frontal Lobe. Can Sam catch up before Lachlan finds the combination to light his half of the Brain Buster? Lachlan still trying. No luck yet. Sam's at the switches now too. Oh, and Lachlan gets it! Great work, my man! Lachlan dives down out into the Basal Ganglia as Sam activates his side of the Brain Buster! Lachlan manages to keep his lead and gets an impressive victory. Sam coming in just seconds later! An awesome race today, Chris. - Great race, team. Sam, we'll get you to come across this way. We'll start with you. You guys were mirroring each other for the majority of that course. A great race. Uh, Sam, how much fun was that? - Uh, fun, yeah. - Really enjoyed it? - Yeah. - Well, Sam, second place today, meaning you've got yourself a $100 bank account. What will you be doing with the money? - I don't know. - Save it up? Spend it? Bit of both. We will see. Sam, great having you here on the show. Lachlan, congratulations. As I mentioned before, it was a very close race. What were re you focussing on during the obstacle course? - Oh, nothing really. Just what was ahead, eh. - Just trying to go fast? - Yeah. - You've done a great job. One thing left to do, Lachlan, and that is, of course, taking on Amygdala! Lachlan, Mr Speed, has raced his way into Amygdala. Congratulations. How does it feel to be in the final round? - Uh, pretty good, yeah. - You've done really well. Some great points today. You scored 160. Sam scored 110, meaning you're playing for $270. - Yeah. - Good luck. Let's try win all of it. - Yeah. - How many strings are on a ukulele? - Um... four. - Correct! Which company makes the PS4? - Sony. - They do indeed. Which football skill is also something a baby does? - Kicks. - Correct. I think I'll go with carpet. - You're going with carpet? - Yep. - Final answer? - Yep. - Locking that in? - Yep. - You said tiles. - Yeah. - And then you changed to carpet. - Yeah, just thought I'd go with that. Sounds better, I think. - Was it right to change? - (EXHALES) - Carpet is correct. Which country is home to singer songwriter Anika Moa? - I'm not really good with my singers, but... I'm just gonna to say America, cos Hollywood. Yeah. - All the big stars are. - Yeah. - It's not correct. She's actually local, right here in New Zealand. - Oh! - Uh, yeah, she was born in Auckland and grew up in Christchurch. - Oh yeah. - Is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Carol Lewis or Lewis Carroll? - Carol Lewis, I think, yeah. - 50/50. - Yeah, pretty much. - Actually, Lewis Carroll. Is hummus a dip or a tree? - A dip. - You are correct. And finally, for Amygdala, a Post-it note is generally sticky on how many sides? - One. (CHUCKLES) - Just the one? - Yeah. - And one is correct. Lachlan, great job, my friend. Let's take a look. You scored yourself $162. Well played. What are you gonna do with the money? - Um, I don't know yet, but I'll figure out something, yeah. - Save it up for the time being? - Yeah. - Lachlan, it's been great having you on the show. All the best with the running, and congratulations. $162! - Nice, Lachlan. Did you enjoy your time here on the Brain Busters, bro? - Yeah. - You happy with your amount? - Yeah. - Awesome stuff, bro.
