Hip hop to history, maths to memory. We start with four, but in the end there can be only one. - Keeping it fresh with your boy Mikey Falesiu. I don't know about you at home, but the best two players that go through to the Brain Buster have their hands full. Let's hope they're up for the challenge. - I'm sure they're ready to take it on, Mikey, and don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. Captioned by Sally Harper. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping I've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we move on to our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. Firstly, Anurag, welcome to the show. You're into robotics. What kind of stuff have we built and created? - So I built a robot car which can be controlled through your phone, through the Wi-Fi. - How on earth do you do that? - Hard work. - (LAUGHS) I bet it was. Great having you here, Anurag. We've also got Finn. Squash player, went to nationals. What was that experience like? - It was amazing, thanks. - Awesome. Would we like to, you know, try to some international competitions in the future? - Hopefully, yes. Yeah. - Best of luck for that. And for now, we're getting competitive, here on Brain Busters. Olivia, welcome to the show. - Thank you. - Lucky enough to be living in a gorgeous place, Akaroa, what do you love about living there? - I love going for the walks and the views on the walks around the peninsula. - Yeah, I bet your view outside your bedroom window is pretty spectacular as well, I'm guessing. - Yes. - Great to have you here, Olivia. And we've also got Frankie. Welcome to the show, Frankie. Ready to be on Brain Busters? - I think so. As ready as I'll ever be. - Excellent, great to hear. Well, let's get straight into it. Thank you all so much for coming. It's time for our first round of the day. It's Mega Memory. Ninety seconds on the clock for our players. Ten points up for grabs for each correct answer, but give me the incorrect answer, they will lose 10 points. Let's get into it. Your time starts now. What is the name of the snowman in Frozen? Anurag. - Olaf. - Which two-wheeled transport is made by Avanti? Finn. - Bicycle. - Which former One Directioner has an album called Fine Line? Frankie. - Harry Styles. - Beginning with B, who is Mario's main enemy? Anurag. - Bowser. - What is the capital of Russia? Finn. - Moscow. - Does Nivea make products to clean your face or your car? Frankie. - Face. - Did Herman Melville write Moby Dick or Moby Duck? Anurag. - Moby Dick. The NZ COVID-19 tracing app is black, white and which other colour? Olivia. - Yellow. - Candy Cat, Danny Dog and Petra Pony are all` Anurag. - Peppa Pig. - Which season is traditionally the warmest? Finn. - Summer. - Great Danes and poodles are both breeds of what? Anurag. - Dog. - What was the first sophisticated optical observatory placed into orbit around Earth? Finn. - Satellite. - Hubble is the answer. - Where on your body would you wear contact lenses? Frankie. - Your eyes. - Just in time. Well done to all of you. Really solid answers there. So let's take a look now at the scores. Anurag has the early lead with 50 points. Frankie has 30 points, Finn has 20 points, and Olivia is on 10 points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds, and starting off today is Olivia. What would you like to play, Olivia? - Spellbinder. - Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. Olivia, please step forward. Are we ready, Olivia? - Yes. - Ready to make new memories? - Yes. - It's the.. the jersey. All right. We'll just get straight into it. Best of luck, Olivia. Here comes number one. Please spell heroic. Correct. Possum. Well done. Cathedral. Awesome job. Please spell silage. - Can I please have a sentence? - Farmers cut grass to make silage for animals in winter. A G E to finish off silage. Spell fatigue. Kia ora. Your final word is fuel Is correct. Well done, awesome job. Thank you so much for taking on Spellbinder. Olivia now has the lead with 110 points. Anurag has 50 points, Frankie is on 30 points and Finn has 20 points. Time now for our second player to come forward and take on their special subject round, that player is Finn. What would you like to play? - Sequencer. - Thank you very much, Finn. Let's play Sequencer. Finn. Please step forward. So, Finn, you've gone to nationals for squash. How do we deal with big pressure situations like this? - Stay calm, get through it. - Nice work. Right, well, let's see if we can do that right now. Best of luck. Here comes your first sequence. - Arrange these reality TV shows into the order of first screening. Into your reality TV shows, Finn? - Not really, no. - Well, you got it right, still. Arrange these classic kiwi treats by their date of creation. Well done, Finn. In which order did these music genres first gain popularity, from earliest to most recent? Looking for three from three here. Nailed it. In which order were these animated movies first released? Very impressive stuff here, Finn. Arrange these tennis stars by order in which their professional career began. Pretty good at squash, how's your tennis? - Not as good. - Correct answer. Arrange these New Zealand events from earliest to most recent. How we feeling about this one, Finn? - Not so confident. - Yeah, tricky one. Needed to swap around New Zealand signing the United Nations charter, and then we had New Zealand, Australia and USA sign the ANZUS Pact. All very close, though. In which order were these singers born? Do we have our final Sequencer correct? Yes, we do. Finn, a really, really strong round of Sequencer. Just that one move separated you from a perfect score. Thank you so much for taking on Sequencer. - Thanks, Chris. - Finn now has the lead with 140 points. Olivia has one 110 points. Anurag has 50 points, and Frankie has 30 points. So a very impressive start for two of our players in our specialist subject rounds. But all of our players are wondering, hoping they've got what it takes to head to that Brain Buster. - It's about to go down for our final two players. Will they be able to handle the heat? Can't wait to find out. - Neither can I, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just hop online to ` Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * Nau mai, hoki mai, welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Olivia and Finn take on their specialist subject rounds. And coming up to the front now is Frankie. So what would you like to play? - Blueprinter. - Thank you very much, Frankie. Let's play Blueprinter. Frankie, please step forward. So, how long have you been skiing for, Frankie? - I think eight years now. - Oh, wow. So nothing but black diamonds from now on? - Mostly. - (LAUGHS) Awesome. Right, let's get into Blueprinter now. You have 30 seconds to take a look at what your Blueprinter is and then 30 seconds to put in your answers. So, here comes your Blueprinter. It's the Mongol Derby. Best of luck. Your time starts now. In 1224, Genghis Khan created the legendary Mongol Derby course as a way to send messages across the Mongolian steppe. Today, you'll see riders racing a recreation of the same exhausting ride over 1000 kilometres in 10 days. Only half of the racers finish the race in any given year. Ten seconds left, Frankie. And that's time. We'll now put 30 seconds on the clock for you to put in those answers, that time starts now. Halfway, Frankie. Five seconds left. Missed out on putting those final two on, but that's OK. Hopefully we can see green across the board for the remaining ones. First one, please. Is correct. That's two. Make it three. Couldn't go for four, though. And missed out there. So, started off great, Frankie, unfortunately just towards the end missing out. Still, great effort. Thank you so much for taking on Blueprinter. - Thank you. Finn has 140 points. Olivia has 110 points. Frankie has 90 points, and Anurag has 50 points. So we just have one more player remaining to take on their special subject round and that player is Anurag. What would you like to play, Anurag? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much. Let's play Equaliser. Anurag, please step forward. How we feeling Anurag? First place after Mega Memory. - Yeah. I'm confident. - Can we continue it? - Hopefully. - Let's find out now. Best of luck, here comes your first equation. Correct. Correct. Well done. Next up ` Awesome stuff. Finally ` Correct. Very fast on a couple of those. Anurag, thank you so much for tackling Equaliser. An excellent way to round out our special subject rounds. So let's take a look now at the leaderboard. Anurag has 150 points. Finn has 140 points. Olivia has 110 points, and Frankie has 90 points. So unfortunately, we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brain Busters. Sorry to say it's you, Frankie. Really, really close. Tough battle today on the show. The good thing for you is you get a $100 bank account. So what will you be doing with that money, Frankie? - I'll probably put it towards new skis. That is an awesome idea, Frankie. Can't wait to see you absolutely tearing up the slopes. And a massive congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Only three players remaining, which means very soon the top two will be flying, climbing, and racing their way to see who'll be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion. - Thanks, Mikey. And before our players can head to the Brain Buster, we have our Brainteaser. Now, all of our players have gone through their specialist subject rounds and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are Reo Rangatira and Identifier. So, Anurag, Finn and Olivia, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you everyone for voting. We'll start with Anurag who has voted for Identifier. Finn would like to play Identifier as well. And Olivia has chosen Identifier. There we go. Let's play Identifier. 30 points if our players buzz in and give the correct answer. But they will also lose 30 points if they buzz in and fail to do so. So let's get into our Identifier. For the Brainteaser, here comes number one. Anurag. - Fingers, nostrils` I mean, fingers, eyelashes, nostrils. Arrange these body parts by their numbers present in the human body, from greatest to least. It's not the correct order, I'm sorry. Eyelashes first, then fingers and finally nostrils. Finn. - North, East, South. - Finn not wasting any time there, would love to extend his lead he now has. That will do it. - Tree frog, cane toad, bullfrog. Needed to swap around bullfrog and cane toad, sorry, Anurag. Anurag. - Sine, calibrate, and translation. - Unfortunately not right, I'm afraid, Anurag. Need a percentage and square root there. Anurag. - Yam, taro, and Jerusalem artichoke. - Yeah, well done there, Anurag. And just like that, we have completed our Brainteaser. Thank you all for playing, let's take a look at our final leaderboard. Finn has 170 points. Olivia has 110 points. Then we have Anurag on 90 points. So Anurag, I'm sorry to say, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Hitting that buzzer, the points just not going the way you wanted them to, I'm sorry. But a $100 bank account is all yours. What would you be doing with that money? - Probably going to save it to buy a new phone. - Nice choice, Anurag. Great to have you on the show, my friend. And congratulations to our two remaining players. For them, it's on to the Brain Buster. - A test of perseverance, resilience and determination for our final two contestants. Who will be today's brain buster champion? We'll find out who very soon. Who will be today's brain buster champion? We'll find out who very soon. * Welcome back to the show. For our final two, it all comes down to this ` the Brain Buster. - Our final two players have made it to the Brain Buster. Olivia and Finn, well done to you both. You guys ready to take on the ultimate obstacle course? Awesome. Let's jump up on our zip lines and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three. Two. One. Fly. It's Olivia and Finn's time to tackle the ultimate obstacle course. Who will be moving on to Amygdala? Finn starts off with a bang and gracefully slides down the neurotransmitter followed by Olivia. There's not much to the molecule steps, but remembering their codes can be critical. Olivia has got a wee bit of catching up to do. Hopefully she's got that code in her head as she fires her way down to Corpus Callosum. Finn's already at the Hippocampus and his code is good. Olivia, now at her console, inputting that four digit code... Mm, not quite. Finn's flying ahead. Come on, girl, you got this. Nope, you better check that code again. Look at Finn go! OK, this time, Olivia. I can feel it. Woo-hoo! Now, quickly, get up that Parietal Lobe. Finn has torpedoed across the Frontal Lobe to the DNA switches, and is squashing Olivia's chance at glory. Finn has activated his switch and is free to head to the finish. With Olivia only just going through the tunnel now, I think it's safe to say we have a clear winner. Congratulations, Finn for the win. Great stuff tackling the course, Olivia. Unfortunately, the troubles with your code were too hard to come back from. We never said it would be easy, but you made it to the end. Ka pai. A solid race, Chris. - And that is our race complete. Finn, I'll get you to come across this way. Olivia. We'll start with you, though. Tough race, but congratulations on completing the beast that is the ultimate obstacle course. How does it feel to have that under your belt? - I don't know. - Good fun, though? - Yeah. - Great to hear, Olivia. Congratulations. Second place today on Brain Busters, meaning you have got yourself a $100 bank account. What will you be doing with that money? - Um, probably buying my cat a new tail. His fell off. - Oh, that's a great idea. I think your cat will very much appreciate that. Olivia, thanks for coming on to the show. Finn, congratulations. You've taken it out. You beat the Brain Buster. Did you think you were gonna be here? - Uh, not really, no. - Here you are, though. One thing left to do, Finn, and of course, that is taking on Amygdala. Finn. Kia ora, and welcome to Amygdala. Congratulations on being here. Didn't think you would, but here you are. You've been to nationals for squash. Now you're here as our Brain Buster champion. Are you feeling pretty good? - Yeah, it's pretty good. - Had a great run as well. 170 points, Olivia got 110 points. We put those two together and you have $280 you can possibly win. How much can we win? - 280. - That's the idea. Let's get into it, Finn. In which sport do you use oars to move backwards? - Rowing. - That's correct. Which of The Simpsons family members has blue hair? - Marge. - Also correct. Pedigree pet food is made for which animal? - Dogs. Or cats. Oh. - Lucky you got that one in. Is the Ganges a river or a mountain? - Mountain. - It is a river. Is creme brulee a savoury or a sweet dessert? - Sweet. - Definitely sweet? - Yep. - Well played. What is the world's smallest fully independent nation state? - The Vatican City. - Vatican City is correct. Which animated movie first featured construction worker Emmet Brickowski? - The LEGO movie. - Just guessing. - Guess and hope for the best. - Yep. - Always give it a guess. The LEGO Movie is correct. In America, what is measured on the Fahrenheit scale? - Temperature. - You are correct, again. Really impressive stuff here. At room temperature, is mercury a liquid or solid? - Liquid. - Fast on that one. - It's one of those facts you just know. - Can't argue that, then. Well done. Finally ` is a lentil a plant or an animal? - Plant. - Again, no mucking around. Maybe too quick for this one? - Maybe, maybe not. Pretty sure not. - You are correct with plant. Congratulations, Finn, let's step across and see that you have scored yourself $252. - Thank you. Well done, man. Congratulations. What are you going to do with that money? - Probably save it till I need it. - Very smart choice, Finn. Hey, you've played brilliantly. $252 dollars. - Woo-hoo! Nice, Finn. Must have been the alpha, you reckon? Happy with that amount? - Yeah, very happy. - Awesome, man. Awesome. You should be. If you think you can take out the Brain Buster just like our man, Finn, jump online and head to ` - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time that's it for Brain Busters.
