- Hip-hop to history, maths to memory. We start with four, but in the end they can be only one. - Kia ora. Mikey Falesiu with today's action. Let's hope our top two players are ready to work because only one will be leaving victorious. Who will it be? It's find out. - Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. Captions by Sophie Pearce. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai haere mai. Welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping I've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we move into our specialist subject rounds where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to get enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet today's players. Firstly, Grace, welcome to the show. Now, you right into anime. What's your favourite anime right now? - Well, my favourite anime at the moment is called Danganronpa. It's a murder mystery. - Ooh, maybe some anime questions popping up. Fingers crossed for that. Who knows? Henry, great to have you here on the show. Now, you've recently just started playing the flute. - Yeah, so I just started playing that at the start of this year, actually. And the reason I started it up was because my granddad used to play it. And when he passed away, he gave me the flute and I decided to, almost, continue that legacy. And, yeah, I've been playing it this year. - Very, very cool indeed, Henry. Thank you so much for joining us here on the show. Tuterangiwhiu, great to have you here also ` a future All Blacks star. How's the rugby season gone? - Very good. We won the competition this year. - Nice. Congratulations. Who's your favourite All Black? - Rieko Ioane. - Nice. What a man. Hope to be like him one day? - Yeah. - That's the plan. And we've also got Yeshvi on the show. - Thanks. - Great to have you here, Yeshvi. Now, you're into calligraphy,... - Yes. - ...which is this beautiful handwriting art that I have no chance of ever being able to do, but what got you into it? - Well, in Year 6, during art, we did calligraphy as a topic and then I got really interested in it, so I've been doing it since then. - Awesome stuff. I'm very, very jealous, Yeshvi. But here we are. Brain Busters time. I wanna say good luck to all of you as we get ready for the show. Let's get into our first round of the day. It's Mega Memory. You guys know the drill ` 90 seconds on the clock for our players. Who will come out on top after Mega Memory? Let's find out. Good luck. Your time starts now. Does Witchery sell clothes or cookies? - Henry. - Clothes. - (DING!) - Which character is a Muppet, Kent Brockman or Sam the Eagle? - Henry. - Sam the Eagle. - (DING!) - Which country's capital is Berlin? - Yeshvi. - Germany. - (DING!) - Which type of gymnastics uses a club and hoop? - Yeshvi. - Uh... rhythmic. - (DING!) - Who released the 2020 single Stupid Love. Tuterangiwhiu. - Ed Sheeran. - (BUZZ!) - Lady Gaga. The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic to which other ocean? - (BUZZ!) - Pacific. What did New Zealand inventor Richard Pearse build and crash? - Henry. - The aeroplane. - (DING!) - Double Down is the 11th book in which series? - Grace. - Diary of a Wimpy Kid. - (DING!) - Where were the 2008 Olympic Games held? Henry. - Reo? - (BUZZ!) - Beijing. Which colour is Fungus the Bogeyman? (SIREN WAILS, BUZZ!) Green was the answer to our final Mega Memory question. Thanks, everyone, for playing. Let's take a look at the leaderboard. Henry and Yeshvi share the early lead with 20 points. Grace has 10 points and Tuterangiwhiu is on zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds and starting us off today is Tuterangiwhiu. What would you like to play? - Reo Rangatira. - Thank you very much. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Tuterangiwhiu, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) All right. All Black in the future. Right now, Brain Busters champion. Can we do it? - Yeah. - All right. It starts here with Reo Rangatira. Best of luck. Here comes your first question. What is an English word for tamariki? - Child. - (DING!) - Correct If my kai is on a pureti, what is my kai on? - Plate. - (DING!) - Kia ora. In the New Zealand cheeky 12 Days of Christmas song, each verse ends with, 'And a...' what bird in a Ponga tree? - Pukeko. - (DING!) - Well done. - What is a Maori word for netball? - Poitarawhiti. - (DING!) - Well done. How many native species of bees does Aotearoa have, 22 or 28? - 22. - (BUZZ!) Are paua, kina and pipi types of kaimoana or huawhenua? - Kaimoana. - (DING!) - That is correct. And just like that, Reo Rangatira is complete. Really well played. Thank you so much for taking it on. - Thank you. - Tuterangiwhiu has first place now with 100 points. Henry is on 20 points. Yeshvi also has 20 points. Then we have Grace on 10 points. So time now for our second player to come forward to take on their specialist subject round, and that player is Grace. What would you like to play, Grace? - Sequencer. - Awesome. Let's play Sequencer. Grace, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) All right, Grace, why do we pick Sequencer? - Cos I'm... I find history really interesting. - Great. Well, hopefully we can get a whole lot of points for it as well. Good luck. Here comes you first sequence. In which order did these animated movies first appear on screen? - (DING! DING! DING!) - Great start, Grace. In what order were these data storage formats created? - (DING! DING! DING!) - Nicely done, Grace. Put these footwear brands into the order they were first released. Quick to make that change. (BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!) But not the right order, sorry, Grace. Converse All Stars back in 1917, Ugg Boots in 1978, and most recently Crocs in 2002. In what order were these celebrity children born? How well do we know our celebrity children, Grace? - Not really well. (CHUCKLES) Fingers crossed. - (BUZZ! BUZZ! DING!) - Oh. Unlucky there. Just need to swap around Suri Cruise and Blue Ivy. In which order were these universities founded? (DING! DING! DING!) - Well done, Grace. Great effort. Thank you very much for taking on Sequencer. Tuterangiwhiu still has the lead with 100 points. Grace moves into second now with 70 points. Then we have Henry and Yeshvi both on 20 points. So two players have already completed their specialist subject rounds, but all four players are hoping they can head to the Brain Buster. - It's about to go down for our final two players, but only one will be going to Amygdala to turn their points to dollars. - Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Simply hop online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere and we'll be right back e muri i te whakata. * Nau mai hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had to Tuterangiwhiu and Grace take on their specialist subject rounds. And coming up to play next, it is Henry's turn. What would you like to play, Henry? - Today I'll be playing Spellbinder. - Thank you very much, Henry. Let's play Spellbinder. Henry, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) What's going through our mind at the moment, Henry? - A little bit nervous, but I've done quite a bit of practise, so I think I'll be OK. - Good to hear you've been practising. Let's see just how well we can do then. 20 points for each word you spell correct. - OK. - Good luck. - Let's go. - Your first word is... spatula. - (DING!) - Correct. Coach. - That would be... - (DING!) - That would be. Gracious. - That would be... - (DING!) - Well done. Telephone. - (DING!) - Awesome work here, Henry. Swale. - That would be... - (DING!) - Correct. Chivalry. - (DING!) - Correct again. Your final word is... gully. (BUZZ!) - Ugh! - Henry, so close... - So close. - ...to a perfect score. Just needed to drop the E and you were there. Still really impressive stuff ` six out of seven. Very well played. Thank you for taking on Spellbinder. - Awesome. Thank you very much. - Henry is now in the lead with 140 points. Tuterangiwhiu has 100 points, Grace is on 70 points, and Yeshvi has 20 points. So we have just one player remaining to take on their specialist subject round and that player is Yeshvi. What would you like to play? - I'd like to play Identifier. - Awesome, Yeshvi. Let's play Identifier. Yeshvi, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) So not only an incredible calligrapher, also into ballet. How are we doing ballet for? - Well, since I was five years old. - Love it? - Yeah, I do. Absolutely. - I bet we would love a whole lot of points as well. - (CHUCKLES) Yes. - So let's see how many we can get now. Good luck. Always good to get off to a great start. - (DING! DING! DING!) - That's how we do it. Took our time with that one. - (DING! DING! DING!) - And it is correct. I would have maybe considered flush toilets. But then again, I'm not playing ` it is you. - (DING! DING! DING!) - And of course, you've got it right. Some very interesting options there. Have we picked the right ones, though? (DING! DING! BUZZ!) Again, so close, Yeshvi. Finally for Identifier... Last one for identifier. We'd love to get this right. (DING! DING!) (BUZZ!) History repeating itself ` missing out by one again. Just needed to put in 'bear' instead of 'hyena'. So close with so many of those Identifier questions, but still a really great job, Yeshvi. Thank you for playing Identifier. - Thank you. - So that is our specialist subject rounds completed. Let's take a look now at the leaderboard. Henry still has the lead with 140 points. Tuterangiwhiu has 100 points. Yeshvi moves into third place now with 80 points and Grace has 70 points. So unfortunately, we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brian Busters, and Grace, I am very sorry to tell you that it will be. It's been great having you here on the show. And of course, you get to go home with a $100 bank account. So what will you do with that money, Grace? - I'm probably going to buy some more Switch games. - Oh, nice. What's your favourite game at the moment? - Well, I quite like Pokemon Sword. - Yeah, nice one, Grace. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - With three players left, go time is just around the corner. Whoever our final two are, hope they're ready for this. - They are definitely are ready, Mikey. The question is, who can get to that Brain Buster? And to help decide, we have our Brain Teaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds and we're left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are Equaliser and Blueprinter. So Henry, Tuterangiwhiu, and Yeshvi ` please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Henry, who has decided to play... Blueprinter. Tuterangiwhiu would like to play... Blueprinter as well. And Yeshvi would like to play... You guessed it, Blueprinter. Three for three. So let's play Blueprinter. Buzz in and get the right answer, you will receive 30 points, but give the wrong answer and you will lose 30 points. Time now for our Blueprinter for the Brain Teaser. 30 seconds to have a look at what it is. And then when you think you know the answers. Here's your Blueprinter. Good luck. Your time starts... now. The tallest mountain in the world, nearly 4000 climbers attempted to reach Everest summit before New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay achieved the feat in 1953. The lofty peak is also known as Chomolungma by locals, meaning 'mother goddess of the Earth'. 10 seconds left. That's time. When you see them pop up, please buzz in when you think you know. First one... This please. Yeshvi. - Three Pinnacles. - (DING!) - It is Three Pinnacles. Well played. Next. Tuterangiwhiu. - Um... Second Step. - (DING!) - It is the Second Step. Awesome stuff. Third... Henry. - Is the Hornbein Couloir ` I think that's what it's called. Is that pronounced right? (BUZZ!) Not correct, I'm afraid, Henry. This please. Yeshvi. - Hornbein Couloir. - (DING!) - That is right. Finally... Yeshvi. - Rongbuk Glacier. - (DING!) - That is correct again, Yeshvi. Well played. That is our Brain Teaser complete. Thank you all for playing. Let's take a look at our final leaderboard. Yeshvi now has the lead with 170 points. Tuterangiwhiu has 130 points, and Henry has 110 points. So, Henry, I'm sorry to say, unfortunately, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. A $100 bank account now has your name on it. So what would you like to do with that money? - I think I'm going to spend that on getting some new skateboard trucks for my skateboard. - Nice, Henry. Best of luck there. And also, make sure you stick at it with the flute as well. - Thank you. - Cheers, Henry. And congratulations to Tuterangiwhiu and to Yeshvi. For them, it's now on to the Brain Buster. - Who out of our two remaining players will be leaving as the Brain Buster champion? Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. * Nau mai hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. We've had Mega Memory, our specialist subject rounds, the Brain Teaser, and now it's time for the big one ` the Brain Buster! - It's the moment of truth for our final two players, Yeshvi and Tuterangiwhiu. Well done on making it this far. Now, Tu, I know hockey is one of your sports. Tell us how you got involved with that, man. - When I was about Year 5 I started to play hockey and then throughout the years, I just started to really enjoy it, and... - Nice, bro. So you should be the master at hockey, right? - Yeah. - You ready to be the master at the Brain Buster? - Definitely. - Nice, man. Best of luck. And Yeshvi, I know swimming is something that you're into. How did you get involved with that? - Well, I started doing it when I was little. Just like that, yeah. - So you should be the master at this too? - Mm-hm. - You ready to get that W today? - Yes. - Awesome. Best of luck to you both. It's now time to jump up on to our zip lines and lets get ready to fly. Cool? Here we go, three, two, one, go! Welcome to the ultimate obstacle, Tuterangiwhiu and Yeshvi. Yeshvi has a 40 point lead, but that doesn't mean anything right now. It's about who has the strength, will and pure heart to make it through. Ballet should help Yeshvi over the Molecule Steps. Nice balancing. Tuterangiwhiu is entering the Corpus Callosum. I hope they both memorised those codes for the Hippocampus. It's looking pretty even at the moment, but someone's gotta come first. Codes are good. Ooh, the race is on. Now onto the Parietal Lobe. Tuterangiwhiu is nearly up. I hope the All Blacks or Black Sticks are watching because this guy could be the next big thing if he continues with this speed. Yeshvi's going pretty fast herself as she races through the tunnel. You need to have steady hands for calligraphy and also for the Frontal Lobe. Yeshvi better hustle. Tuterangiwhiu is on the DNA Molecule Ladder, moments away from activating his side, and he's done it! He can now head for the finish after tackling the Basal Ganglia. Yeshvi is yet to activate her side of the Brain Buster, but even if she did, there's no time to catch up. Tuterangiwhiu is today's champion. Yeshvi, your efforts haven't gone unnoticed. You were leading after the Brain Teaser round, but couldn't quite defeat the Brain Buster. Amazing work and what a race, Chris. - Almost there. Keep it up! Well done, Yeshvi. And well done, Tuterangiwhiu. Our race is complete. Yeshvi, we'll start with you. How much fun did we have on that obstacle course? - Oh, it was great. (CHUCKLES) - Great to hear it. You can see the smile, grinning from ear to ear, and why wouldn't you be? Second place today on Brain Busters, Yeshvi. Congratulations. - Thank you. - What are you going to do with your $100 bank account? - I'm probably going to buy some calligraphy pens. Yeah. - Of course. - Yeah, I think that is definitely the cool option for you to pick. Yeshvi, it's been great having you here on the show. Tuterangiwhiu, congratulations. You have beaten the Brain Buster. Did you think you're gonna be able to take it out today? - Uh, not really. Had the hope though, and here we are. Tuterangiwhiu, there is still one thing left to do and that is taking on Amygdala. Tuterangiwhiu, congratulations. You're here, the final round for Brain Busters ` Amygdala. Only thing we have to do is win some serious money, and you're playing for a little bit as well. Of course, you've had a great show. You scored 130 points. You went up against Yeshvi who actually scored more points than you. She got 170. So you can thank her for that. You get to take those points, meaning you're playing for $300. How much can we win? - A lot. - That's the idea. Good luck. Here we go. Who is not a Jonas brother ` Kevin, Nick, Nigel? - Um... Kevin? - (BUZZ!) - Nigel was the answer. Is a rugby game divided into halves or quarters? - Halves. - (DING!) - Correct. Always gonna get that one, future rugby star. Beginning with D, which gemstone is also a suit in cards? - Diamond. - (DING!) - Is correct. Well done. Who directed The Hobbit movies? - Taika Waititi? Great New Zealand director. - Uh-huh. Is it the director we're after? - (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately not Taika Waititi. Peter Jackson was the answer. Which is thinner, a muffin or a pikelet? - Pikelet. - Is pikelet right? - (DING!) - Sure is. Spell 'rua'. - R-U-A. - (DING!) - Correct. What kind of tree is rakau Kirihimete? - Um... Ponga tree. (BUZZ!) - It was Christmas tree. - (GROANS) Finally for Amygdala ` in New Zealand netball, how many points is a goal worth? - One. - Just the one? - Yeah. - Not two, not three, not four, not more? Just the one? (DING!) - One is correct. Well done. Very well played. Let's take a look at your score ` $150. Congratulations. What are you going to do with the money? - Probably just save it, you know. - Save it? - Yeah. - Keep it in the bank. You never know when you might need it. Awesome. Tuterangiwhiu, congratulations once again. Really well played. $150. - Well done, Tu. You happy with that amount? - Yeah. - You ready to go home with it, eh? - (CHUCKLES) - Well done, man. If you think you can take on the ultimate obstacle course, just like our boy, Tuterangiwhiu, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Thank you NZ On Air.
