Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory, before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. Now, they'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players. Firstly, Jack, welcome to the show. Now, I hear you and your friends have invented a game, have a little bit of a bet going on. - Yeah, we've got a game of tag that we started in September. - It's where we play outside of school and in school as well. - Yeah. And so if you're in at the end of the month, you have to get a mullet. - Wow. So, are you safe at the moment? - Yeah, I'm safe. - Oh, good luck is all I'll say to you. And good luck on the show as well. Naomi, welcome to you. I hear you're a bit of a traveller. Where's your favourite place in the world you've been? - Oh, my favourite place in the world is definitely Japan. - Why's that? Because I just feel that it's a really technologically advanced place, and I really like all the things that it has to offer. - Oh, so will your world-travelling skills and knowledge help you on Brain Busters? - Hopefully. - Let's find out a bit later on. Finley, great to have you on the show. - A trombone player. How long have you been playing that for? - Three years. - In any bands? - Lots of school ones, yeah. - Nice. Buzz in and get the correct answer, you will win ten points; but fail to do so, you will lose 10 points. 90 seconds on the clock. Your time starts now. Finley has the early lead with 30 points. Katelyn has 10 points. Jack is on zero points. And Naomi is also on zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds. And coming up to the front first today is Jack. - So what would you like to play, Jack? - I'd like to play Sequencer. Thank you very much. Let's play Sequencer. Jack, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) First up today for our specialist rounds, Jack. Never an easy task, but are we ready for it? - Yes, I am. - Good to hear. Best of luck. Here comes your first sequence. Arrange these modes of transport in order of invention. Jack hoping to get those first points on the board. That will do it. Order these rules by the order they occur in the Dua Lipa song New Rules. Familiar with the song, Jack? - I recited it in my head. Well done. In which order were these New Zealand clothing brands established, from first to last? Close. Just needed to swap Swandri and Barkers around. In which chronological order did these cities host their first Commonwealth Games? You had that order there. You wanted to move Christchurch before Auckland, and then moved it back. - I just felt because Auckland was a high populated city, it would be first. Good logic there. Well done, Jack. Finally for Sequencer,... In which order were these professions established in New Zealand? Our final Sequencer, Jack. Really want to be able to finish strong here. And you've done it, Jack. Well done. Really well played, my friend. Thank you for taking on Sequencer. Jack is out in front now with 80 points. Finley has 30 points. Katelyn is on ten points. And Naomi is on zero points. So let's bring our second player to the front now. That player is Naomi. What would you like to play? - Spellbinder. - Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. Naomi, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) - How are we feeling about Spellbinder? - Uh, I'm feeling a bit nervous. - Confident? - Kind of. Best of luck. 20 points for each word you spell correct. Here's your first word. - Fare. - Could you please use the word in a sentence? I pay the driver my bus fare. - Fare. - Correct. Stylish. - Stylish. - Well done. Cicada. - Cicada. - Really great stuff here. Horrid. - Horrid. Next up is... ecstatic. - Ecstatic. - Correct again. Cohesion. - Cohesion. - Naomi, you've done a fantastic job so far. Your final word is... Remnant. - Remnant. - That is correct. And Naomi, you have a perfect score. Really well played. Congratulations. - Thank you for taking on Spellbinder. - Thank you. After a perfect score, Naomi now has the lead with 140 points. Jack has 80 points. Finley has 30 points. And Katelyn has 10 points. So a very impressive start here on Brain Busters. And of course, all of our players are wondering if they're going to be able to hang out with Mikey. - Here on the Brain Buster, one wrong move will cost you. Hopefully not with today's final two. I'm confident they got this. - Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just hop online to Heihei Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * Nau mai, hoki mai, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Jake and Naomi take on their specialist subject rounds. And coming up to the front now is Katelyn. So what would you like to play, Katelyn? - I would like to play Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Katelyn, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) - So, obviously very competitive when it comes to the athletics. - Yeah. - Are we feeling competitive today? - Yep, quite competitive. Good. Great to hear. Best of luck. Let's get into Identifier now. Lovely start. Took your time with this one, Katelyn. And good thing, too. You got the right answer. Going for three in a row. That's done it. Identify the three terrestrial planets. - What do we think about this one, Katelyn? - Not too sure. Let's see. You're correct. Well done. - Do we know our dinosaurs, Katelyn? - Um, not too well. - Hopefully. - Fingers crossed. Unfortunately missed out there. Needed Megalosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex. - Confident with this order, Katelyn. - Yes. - 100%? - Yeah, a hundred percent. - (INHALES SHARPLY) I dunno. Of course you're right there, Katelyn. Well done. And that is Identifier done and dusted. - Thank you for taking it on. - Thank you. Naomi still has that lead with 140 points. Katelyn moves into second now with 110 points. Jack has 80 points And Finley has 30 points. So we do just have one more player remaining to take on the specialist subject round, and that player is Finley. What would you like to play? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much. Let's play Equaliser. Finley, please step forward. (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Music and maths, eh? Taking on Equaliser. - How do we feel about that? - OK. - Ready to go? - Yeah. - Excellent. First equation is coming up now. Not wasting any time. Correct. Very impressive. Awesome stuff here. 20 was the answer. Your final equation. Is the correct answer to our final equation. Well done, my friend. I think you should have got a perfect score, though. Still, thank you so much for tackling Equaliser. A really impressive way to finish off our specialist subject rounds by Finley. So let's take a look now at that leader board. Finley now reclaims the lead with 150 points. Naomi has 140 points. Katelyn has 110 points. Then we have Jack on 80 points. So unfortunately it has come to the time where we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brain Busters. Jack, I'm afraid it's you. A $100 bank account is all yours, though. So what are you doing with the money going? - I'll probably just save it up for the future. - Nice. Potentially saving it up for a certain mullet haircut? - Hmm, could be. - Not gonna happen on your watch? - Nah, it'll be someone else. - Good to hear it, Jack. Congratulations on playing. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Whoo! Three players left. Two will race, but only one winner will go through to Amygdala to turn their points into dollars. - Thanks, Mikey. And before we can head to the Brain Buster, we have our Brain-teaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through, their specialist subject rounds, and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Today those options are Blueprinter or Reo Rangatira. So, Naomi, Finley and Katelyn, please choose which one you would like to play now. Thank you everyone for voting. We'll start with Naomi, who has chosen... Reo Rangatira. Finley would like to play... Blueprinter. And Katelyn would like to play... Blueprinter as well. There you go. Let's play Blueprinter. Still the potential to go any way here at the moment, so let's get straight into our Blueprinter now. Of course, you'll have 30 seconds to have a look at it, and then you'll need to buzz in and give me your answers after that. Good luck. Here comes your Blueprinter. It is Craters of the moon. Your time starts now. The moon is full of craters or holes that have formed from intense pummelling by space rocks between four to three billion years ago. The moon is an easy target for the space rocks, as it has no atmosphere to protect it. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) (TIMER BEEPS) 10 seconds left. That's time. Hopefully we've got those all locked in. We will now start playing. First one. Naomi. - Sea of Clouds. (BUZZ!) - Sorry, Naomi, it wasn't Sea of Clouds. It was in fact Sea of Vapours. Next one. Naomi again. - Sea of Moisture. (BUZZ!) - Sorry, Naomi. That one was Sea of Cold. And lastly... - Naomi again. - Copernicus. Is correct. Well done. Thank you very much for playing our Brain-teaser. That was Blueprinter. Let's take a look at our final leader board. Finley manages to hold on to the lead with 150 points. After answering every question, Naomi now has 110 points. And then Katelyn also has 110 points. So we have a tie, which means we now need to go to our tiebreaker round to see who will join Finley on the Brain Buster. So this game is just between Naomi and Katelyn. I'll ask a question. The first person to buzz in and give me the correct answer will go through to that Brain Buster. But if you give me the incorrect answer, your opponent will go through. Good luck to you both. Here comes your tiebreaker question. In 2011 Shell New Zealand rebranded as what? - Naomi. - Z. Is the correct answer. Congratulations, Naomi. You are through. Katelyn, I saw you push that buzzer just a fraction of a second behind. So unfortunately, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Really great effort today on the show. A $100 bank account is all yours as well. So what will you be doing with that money? - I'm going to put some of it towards my 40 Hour Famine fundraising, and then I'm also gonna buy some carrots for my friends. - Awesome choices, Katelyn. Great to have you on the show. And congratulations to Naomi and Finley. For them, it's now on to the Brain Buster. - The ultimate obstacle course, where our top two players will battle it out to see who will be today's Brain Buster champion. One winner. We'll find out soon. One winner. We'll find out soon. * Welcome back to the show. For our final two, it all comes down to this ` the Brain Buster! - I'm here with our final two contestants, Finley and Naomi. Well done to you both for making it this far. You guys ready to take on the ultimate obstacle course? Awesome. Let's jump up on zip lines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three, two, one, fly! We've got trombone player Finley and globetrotter Naomi taking on the Brain Buster today. Will Naomi's travel skills and knowledge helped her navigate the ultimate obstacle course? Finley has taken the lead early on. He's seen his code and breezes through the Corpus Callosum. Naomi doesn't want to fall behind, and catches up pretty quickly. Both enter their codes successfully, and they can now head up the Parietal Lobe. Finley will have to work extra hard to stop Naomi from closing that gap. He's into the tunnel, going at pace, but Naomi is still in this race. She's really pushing through now, hoping to get ahead of Finley. And just like your T-shirt says, you got this! They're both flying across the Frontal Lobe for the DNA Switches. Finley's made it first, though, trying that first switch. No luck yet. Naomi now having a go. Oh my gosh! There it is. Naomi has managed to overtake Finley so close to the finish. There goes his side of the Brain Buster. It's a sprint to the end. Naomi only just in front. Can she hold it long enough? Yes! Epic race, Chris. - What a race that was. Good sportsmanship from you two. Naomi, I'll get you to come across this way. Finley, we'll start with you. You had the lead for the whole race, and it seems like out of nowhere, Naomi came and snatched away from you. - Still, how much fun was that course? - Really fun. Great to hear, Finley. And a great effort today on Brain Busters as well. A $100 bank account is all yours. What will you be doing with that money? - I'm gonna try and save for my brother's birthday, but probably gonna spend it on me. - (LAUGHS) I like the honesty, Finley. Great having you here. Naomi. Never give up, and this is what happens. You were trailing. You got to the code straight away, and now you're here. Did you think you were gonna be able to take it out? I was hoping so, but... And I was nervous, but... Well, I guess in the end, I managed to do it. Yeah. Just goes to show that you've got to always keep pushing. And you gotta push a little bit further, Naomi, because there is one thing left to do, and that is taking on Amygdala. Naomi, congratulations on making it to Amygdala after a spectacular race on the Brain Buster. How are we feeling? I'm feeling good. I actually didn't think that I would, like, actually get this far, and I thought that I wouldn't actually win the Brain Buster, because I was behind at the start. But, um, well, I guess I managed to catch up and do the switches correctly, so... Yeah, not just correctly but very quickly as well. So here we are now at Amygdala, and you are playing for $270. A lot of money. Let's see how much we can win. Good luck, Naomi. In which Olympic sport can you do backstroke? - Swimming. You sure can. Which is not a TV network ` TVNZ, CNN, CIA? - CIA. - Correct, of course. It stands for Criminal Intelligence Agency. Which organisation features in The Avengers movies ` SHIELD or BROOMSTICK? - SHIELD. - Correct. Is Gandalf a wizard in Harry Potter or The Hobbit? - The Hobbit. Absolutely. Of course, Dumbledore is the white-bearded wizard in Harry Potter. What is a Venus flytrap? - It's a plant. - No hesitation whatsoever. So, of course, you are right. In their song, what are the Bananas in Pyjamas coming down? - Stairs. - Stairs. That's correct. Well done, Naomi. Which country in the Caribbean rhymes with 'tuba'? - Bermuda. - Bermuda? - Questioning now. Think there's something else that it could be? - I can't think of anything else it could be from the top of my head, but you never know. It could be Bermuda. - You never know. (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately, not correct. The correct answer was in fact Cuba. - (SIGHS) Makes a lot of sense now, doesn't it? (CHUCKLES) Finally, who is not a weather presenter ` Daniel Corbett, Meghan Markle? - Meghan Markle. - You don't think she presents the weather? - No. - Why's that? - Well, at least she... She's... She was a former royal, and I'm pretty sure she was an actress before. - So maybe went presenting the weather to acting? - Could have happened? - Possibly. - But... - Don't think it's the case? - Don't think so. (DING!) Your reasoning is good enough for me. Well done, Naomi. Congratulations. - You've scored $189. Really well played. - Thank you. What are you going to do with the money? - I'm going to save it up and put it towards a new phone. Smart choice indeed. Naomi, congratulations. Thanks once again. $189. - Well done, Naomi. Are you happy with that amount? - Yeah. - Awesome. You should be. If you think you can take the Brain Buster out just like our girl Naomi, jump online and head to Heihei Games. Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Thank you, NZ On Air.
