Today, we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. Firstly, Sienna, great to have you here on the show. What do we like to do in our spare time? - I really enjoy orienteering, especially when you get out in the forest, cos you're all around the nature. - Pretty good at it, or do we get lost often? Yeah, get lost pretty often, but it's always fun trying (CHUCKLES)to find your way back. - Totally, all part of it. - Yeah. - Great to have you here, Sienna. Summer, welcome to the show. Dirt biking is your thing. How did you get into that? - So my dad and some of our other friends go riding a lot, and I kinda just joined in. So I started when I was about 8 or 9. - Yup. - So, yeah, I've been going for a while now. It's really great. - And so you all go as, like, a big group? - Yeah, it's really great. We go to Woodhill Forest often. - Oh, awesome. Great to have you here, Summer. - Thank you. - Ben, welcome to the show. Reading. - Yep. - BOTH: Love it. - What books are you reading at the moment? - I'm moving through quite a few books. I'm reading a series, the Mistborn series, and I have the first book, and the second book is at the library, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. - Oh, very cool. Awesome. And maybe if we get some money here on Brain Busters, put it towards some books? - Yeah, definitely, probably. Well, some of it. - (CHUCKLES) Yeah, nice to hear, Ben. And we've also got Te Kaea. Are you going to be the star today of Brain Busters, though? - Oh,... I don't know. - We will find out very shortly. Who will it be? Everyone wants to know. Well, let's not waste any time and help find out now and get into Mega Memory. 10 points for every question our players get right, but buzz in and fail to answer it correct, our players will lose 10 points. 90 seconds on the clock. What would you like to play, my friend? - Reo Rangatira. - Sweet as. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Te Kaea, please step forward. (ELECTRONIC MUSIC) Te Kaea, the leader. - Yeah. - The question is ` can you lead yourself to a victory here on Brain Busters? - Hopefully. - Let's find out now. This is where it really makes a big difference. 20 points for each question. Good luck. Here is number one. What is the English translation for tane? - Boy. - Correct. Please spell 'kuia'. Well done. If I am sad, am I pai or pouri? - Pouri. - Kia ora. What is a Maori word for the colour white? - Ma. - Awesome stuff. What is a Maori way to say 'moon' or 'month'? - Kare au i te mohio. I don't know. Let's play Identifier. Sienna, please step forward. (ELECTRONIC MUSIC) So, good at identifying where you are when you're out orienteering. Can we identify the correct answers today? - Hopefully. (CHUCKLES) - Let's find out. Good luck. Had sun bear locked in there. Switched it to squirrel glider. Was that the right move to make? Yes, it was. Well done. Correct. Nice. Fast on that one. That would explain why. How are we feeling about this one, Sienna? - Not so sure. (CHUCKLES) - Pretty sure now. Again, very, very fast. And Sienna is correct. This for a perfect score. Sienna gets it. Well done, Sienna. Thank you for taking on Identifier. Sienna has the lead now with 160 points. Te Kaea has 100 points. Ben is on 40 points, and Summer has 30 points. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * Nau mai, hoki mai, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Te Kaea and Sienna take on their specialist subject rounds, and playing next is... Summer. What would you like to play, Summer? - I'm playing Blueprinter. - Thank you very much. Let's play Blueprinter. Summer, please step forward. (ELECTRONIC MUSIC) How's the old memory, Summer? - Hopefully pretty good. (CHUCKLES) - We're about to find out. The largest public library in the South Island, Turanga is filled not just with books, but also with spaces for exhibitions, meetings, studying and several sound and film studios. There are even sewing machines and 3D printers available for you to explore your creative side. 10 seconds left. Time's up. Summer, you now have 30 seconds to put in your answers. Study Room is incorrect. Wharepaku is right. Missed out there, unfortunately. And Fiction is not correct either. The Meeting Room is, though, and so is the Roof Garden. So, a nice finish, Summer. Well done. Thank you very much for playing Blueprinter. - Thank you. Sienna has the lead with 160 points. Te Kaea has 100 points. Summer now has 90 points, and Ben is on 40 points. We just have one more player remaining to take on their specialist subject round. That player is Ben. What would you like to play? - Spellbinder. - Thank you, Ben. Let's play Spellbinder. Ben, please step forward. (ELECTRONIC MUSIC) Ben must be feeling good. He had that lead after Mega Memory. - Yup. - Can we continue it? - I hope so. Let's try now. Good luck. Your first word, Ben, is... civil. Correct. Grizzly. Well done, Ben. Enthusiasm. Correct. Feud. Ben is on a roll. Configure. Awesome stuff, Ben. Please spell reciprocated. Excellent stuff. Ben, your final word... is yeti. Ben, that is correct, and you have a perfect score. Excellent spelling, Ben. Well done. Thank you for taking on Spellbinder. What a way to finish our specialist subject rounds. So let's take a look now at the leader board. With that perfect score, Ben now has the lead with 180 points. Sienna has 160 points. Te Kaea has 100 points, and Summer is close behind on 90 points. So, unfortunately, we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brain Busters. And it's you, I'm afraid, Summer. Just 10 points in it. So, so close. But the good news is you now have a $100 bank account. What will you be doing with the money, Summer? - I'm probably going to save most of it up, and I might spend some on a new helmet. - Ah, nice choice, Summer. Great having you on the show. - Yup, thank you. - And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - One gone and three players left. It's almost go time for our top two players. Hope they got their game face ready, because it's about to get real. - It sure is, Mikey, especially as we're about to head into our brain-teaser now. All of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we're left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are... So, Sienna, Ben and Te Kaea, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Sienna, who has chosen to play... - BOTH: Equaliser. - Te Kaea has voted for... Sequencer. So it comes down to Ben, who has voted for... - Equaliser. - Here we go. Let's play Equaliser. Can Te Kaea catch up, or will Ben and Sienna run away with the points? Let's find out now. Here comes your first equation. Te Kaea. Correct. Ben. - (SIGHS) - Ben. - (SIGHS) - 16 was the answer. Sorry, Ben. Ben. Is correct. Sienna. Is the correct answer to our final brain-teaser. Well done to all of you. Let's take a look at the final scores. Sienna moves to 190 points. Ben has 150 points, and Te Kaea has 130 points. So a great round there for our brain-teaser. We do have to eliminate someone now, though, and I'm sorry to say it is you, Te Kaea. Really great battle today on the show. A $100 bank account is all yours. So what will you be doing with that money? - I'll be saving it. - Nice work. Keep it for a rainy day. Thanks for coming on the show, my man. And congratulations to Sienna and Ben. For them, it's now on to the Brain Buster. - Started with four, and now we're down to two. Who will be taking out the Brain Buster? Don't go anywhere. We'll find out very soon. * - Nau mai, hoki mai, and welcome back to the show. Today, we've had four players battle it out, and now just two remain as they get ready to take on the Brain Buster. - Our final two players have made it this far. Ben and Sienna, well done to you both. You guys ready for the ultimate obstacle course? Awesome. Let's jump up on to our seats, and let's get ready to fly. Cool, here we go. Three, two, one. Fly! Ben and Sienna are about to enter the Brain Buster. 340 combined points on the line here. They each had perfect scores for the speciality rounds, so I think we're in for a good race. No problemo over the Molecule Steps. Sienna got a good look at her code, and they both fire through the Corpus Callosum. It's looking pretty tight at the moment, but a mistake at the Hippocampus could change that. Nope, still tied. Sienna's orienteering experience is coming in handy. She's navigating this course like a pro. Both players now tackle the tunnels. Ben's stuck in the webs. Oh no, that's definitely set him back and now has a bit of catching up to do. There's still time, though. Sienna is tracking well across the Frontal Lobe. And here comes Ben. Sienna's had more time on the DNA switches. Can she activate her side before Ben? Good to go! She's unlocked the final stage of the race ` the Basal Ganglia. Under and over to the finish. It's going to be too late for Ben. Nice one, Sienna. There you go, Ben. Just one more obstacle, and you've made it to the end. A great competitive race from these two today, Chris. - Nice work, Ben. Finish strong. Hits that buzzer, and that is our race complete. Sienna, I'll get you to come across this way. Ben, we'll start with you. A close race there for a bit. It was neck and neck, and then you just got stuck on that code. It didn't want to activate. - Couldn't find the combination. Yeah, unfortunate there, Ben. But still a great effort today on Brain Busters. Thanks for competing. A $100 bank account is yours as well, so what will you be doing with the money? - Probably saving. - Smart choice, Ben. Great having you here. Sienna, congratulations. You have beat the Brain Buster. How does that feel? - Feels really good. - You've done amazing. One thing left to do, though, Sienna, and that is taking on Amygdala. Sienna, congratulations and welcome. Sometimes you say you get lost when you're orienteering, but you've managed to find yourself here in the final round. How does it feel to be the winner of Brain Busters today? - I'm really excited. You've done a fantastic job. Playing for some great money as well. Of course, you scored 190 points today. Nicely done. Ben also did fantastic ` 150 points for him. We combine those two together, and you're playing for $340. Good luck. Let's get into it, Sienna. What game would you be playing if you landed on Bond Street or Community Chest? - Monopoly. - Sure would. The longest in America, what type of geographical feature is the Mississippi? - A river. - Correct. Which team won the 2019 Halberg Award for Best Team of the Year? - The All Blacks. - The Silver Ferns. Which movie features Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe? - Madagascar. - Great movie as well. St Petersburg and Vladivostok are in which country? - Russia. - Quick to answer that one. Well done. What is a swimming race using four different strokes called? - Individual medley. - Done much swimming? - Yeah, I used to be a swimmer, so. - Confident with this one, then? - Yeah, (CHUCKLES) hopefully I get it right. - What's your go-to stroke? - Probably backstroke, yeah. - Definitely medley? - Yes. - Of course, getting that one right. Who sung Shallow with Bradley Cooper? - Lady Gaga. - Is it the type of song Lady Gaga would usually sing? I'm not sure it is. You think it is, though? - Yes, it's one she did for the movie. - Well done. Doing really good here, Sienna. Keep it up. In which country's cuisine is food cooked in a tandoor oven? - Indian. - Very fast locking in some of these answers. It doesn't matter, because you've got it right again. Which Australian city hosted the 2000 Olympics? - Sydney. (CHUCKLES) - Little bit more doubt there. - I wasn't born then, (CHUCKLES) so I don't remember. - So we're guessing Sydney, or do you think it could be Sydney? - I have no idea, so it's a guess. - If you would have guessed something else, what would it have been? - Maybe Melbourne. - Maybe Melbourne. And Sydney is correct. Nicely done. Finally for Amygdala ` is a tambourine a fruit or a musical instrument? - It's a musical instrument. - Musical instrument is your answer. I swear there's a fruit that must sound like that, though, isn't there? - Yeah, kind of. (CHUCKLES) - (DING!) - Musical instrument is correct, Sienna. Great job. Let's take a look. $306. Well done. What are you going to do with the money? - I'm going to put it towards a scuba diving course. - Oh, cool. How long have you wanted to do that for? - Quite a while, but I'm only just old enough, so. - I'm sure you'll have an absolute blast doing that. Sienna, congratulations once again. $306. - Whoo-hoo! Well done, Sienna. Hey, you ever been to Sydney or Melbourne before? - No. - Oh, hopefully with that money, you could go there one day. - (LAUGHS) - If you think you can take on the Brain Buster just like our girl Sienna, jump online and head to Heihei Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020
