- Four players, three rounds, two players race, one winner takes it all. Kia ora, I'm Chris Kirk and this is Brian Busters. Get ready for a series of escalating rounds where we test our players on maths, memory, Te Reo, spelling and more, before it all leads up to this ` the Brain Buster. - Mikey Falesiu back at it again. It's all about pure strength, speed, and mana when it comes to the Brain Buster. Will today's top two contestants have the grit to take on this beast? Let the games begin! - Kia ora, Mikey, and don't forget you can play from home as well. So lets meet today's Brain Busters. Captions by Ellen Sinclair. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2020 Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Brain Busters. Today we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options today. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. Firstly, Toi, welcome to the show. Right into your surfing. Where do we like to go surfing? - Piha Beach. - Awesome. What's the biggest wave we've surfed? - I'd say 4ft-5ft. - Woo! Were you pretty scared doing that or was it easy? - It's easy. You just fall into water if you fall off, so it's` - Fair point. All right, Toi. Great having you here on the show. Zaria, welcome to the show as well. I hear you can do a bit of contortion? Maybe a little bit tricky to show us at the moment, but what's some crazy things you can do? - I can bend backwards and put my head through my feet. - Wow. I think it's probably a good thing you're not showing us that now. - Yeah. - All right. Great to have you here, Zaria. Aaron, welcome to the show. Now, you've recently just taken up fencing. What got you into that? - I've done a different kind of sword fighting for three years before, so when I saw that my school was offering to do fencing, I just immediately wanted to try it out. - Absolutely. Oh, great to have you here on the show, Aaron. And we've also got Jordan. Right into your sport. You play hockey and netball. What got you into sport? - My parents, actually. Both my parents played hockey when they were younger, so, yeah. - So can you run circles 'round both of them now? - Not quite. - (LAUGHS) One day. All right. In the meantime, though, we are here at Brian Busters, set and ready to get into it. So let's play our first round of the day. It's Mega Memory. You know the drill ` 90 seconds on the clock, so let's get straight into Mega Memory now. Good luck. Your time starts now. Which Toy Story movie stars motorcycle man Duke Caboom? Jordan. - Toy Story 4. - (DING!) - A stegosaurus was a type of what? Aaron. - Dinosaur. - (DING!) - What is the main ingredient of an omelette? Jordan. - Egg. - (DING!) - Which duo sing 'Rain On Me'? Jordan. - Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. - (DING!) - In showjumping, which animal does the jumping? Jordan. - Horse. - (DING!) - Which country is Shakespeare's Richard the Third king of? Zaria. - England. - (DING!) Are the rings that Sonic the Hedgehog collects black or gold? Zaria. - Gold. - (DING!) - Which cartoon characters best friend is Milhouse? Aaron. - Bart Simpson. - (DING!) - Hickory dickory dock, the what ran up the clock? Jordan. - Mouse. - (DING!) - In Danger Mouse, what type of animal is Penfold? Zaria. - Beaver? - (BUZZ!) - Hamster. What unmanned flying device rhymes with 'phone'? - (BUZZ!) Drone, and that is time up for Mega Memory. I think you all probably knew that last one as well, but no matter, still a whole lot of points to be had there. Thank you, everyone, for playing. Let's take a look at the scores. Jordan has the lead after Mega Memory with 50 points, Aaron is on 20 points, Zaria has 10 points, and Toi is on zero points. I think we should change that score for Toi though, as we move into our specialist subject now. So what are you going to play, Toi? - Reo Rangatira. - Thank you very much. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Toi, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) First to go. So do you think the pressure's on you, or do you think it's better to go first? - Pressure's on me, for sure. - Pressure's on ya. 20 points for each Te Reo-focused question you get correct. Can't lose any points, so make sure we give everything a go, all right? - Yep. - Best of luck. Here's number one. Please spell maunga. - (DING!) - Kia ora, that is correct. What is a Maori word for 'back', as in, body part? - Tuara. - (DING!) - Well done. Translate this ` ta Rawiri rorohiko. - That is Rawiri's computer. - (DING!) - Correct. Which parent would you call Mama? - The mum. - (DING!) - You definitely would. What is an English word for makona, ngata, or ea? - Perfect. - (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately not correct there. Satisfied was the answer, Toi. - Lake Taupo. - (BUZZ!) - Waikato. And finally, what is an English word for reka? - Tasty. - (DING!) - It definitely is. Awesome job, Toi, congratulations. Five correct there. Thank you so much for playing Reo Rangatira. Toi now has first place with 100 points, Jordan has 50 points, Aaron has 20 points, and Zaria has 10 points. Time now for our next player to come up to the front. And that player is Zaria. So Zaria, what would you like to play? - Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Zaria, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) What made you pick Identifier, Zaria? - I like science. - Makes sense to me. All right, let's not waste any time, get straight into it. 20 points for each one you get correct. Here comes your first Identifier question. Wanting to make sure that we've got all the right answers there for the first one. And they are definitely all there. Had three answers in then you wanted swap. Was it the right thing to do? - Hope so. - Yes, it was. Well played. Quickly locking in. Was Zaria too fast, though? Maybe a little bit quick there, needed Saudi Arabia and Jordan in. Confident with this one? - Yep. - You got three green. Awesome work, Zaria. Confident? - Yeah. - Goes right again, very well done. Finally ` Final one. Do we have it? Yes, indeed. Zaria, well played. I can see why you like science! Really awesome stuff. Thank you so much for taking on Identifier. Zaria now takes the lead, sitting comfortably on 130 points, Toi has 100 points, Jordan has 50 points, and Aaron has 20 points. So, a great start for two of our players in our specialist subject rounds. But all of our players are wondering if they're gonna have enough points to get to that Brain Buster. - It won't be easy for our top two players. If they really want to be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion, they've gotta bring more than just their A game. Let 'em know, Chris! - I definitely will, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. Just hop online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * - Nau mai, hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Toi and Zaria take on their specialist subject rounds. And coming up the front now is Aaron. So what would you like to play? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much, Aaron. Let's play Equaliser. Aaron, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) So, Aaron, I gotta ask, wearing all that fencing gear, does it get really hot in there? - It can get quite hot after a while. - I bet it does. Far out. All right. Well, now we're only feeling the heat, the pressure of Brain Busters. Handling it so far? - It's OK. - (LAUGHS) All right. Let's get into Equaliser now. Best of luck, Aaron. Here comes your first equation. - 220. - (DING!) - Well done. - 76. - (DING!) - Great stuff. - 81. - (DING!) - Quick on that one. - 198. - (DING!) - Impressive stuff here. - 231. - (DING!) - 6. - (BUZZ!) - 15 was the answer there. Finally for Equaliser ` - 147. - (DING!) - Well done. That is the correct answer to our final Equaliser equation. Really well played, Aaron. Thank you so much for taking it on. Aaron is now in first place with 140 points, Zaria has 130 points, Toi has 100 points, and Jordan has 50 points. So just one player remains to take on their specialist subject round. That player is Jordan. What would you like to play, Jordan? - Blueprinter. - Thank you very much. Let's play Blueprinter. Jordan, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) So, think we're pretty good at memorising stuff? - Yeah, hope so. - We're about to find out now. Of course, you have 30 seconds to have a look at what your Blueprinter is, and then a further 30 seconds to lock in all your answers. Best of luck. Let's see what your Blueprinter is. It's the Venice canals. Best of luck. Your time starts now. The city of Venice has been built on the lagoon for over 1200 years, and many of the buildings dotted around the canals are up to 800 years old. Though rising water levels currently threaten it, the city remains one of the most spectacular and important cultural heritage sites in the modern world. 10 seconds left. Time's up. 30 seconds to now put in your answers. That time starts now. Still had plenty of time on the board, so feeling confident, Jordan? - A bit. Let's see. First one, please. Correct. Missed that second one, though, I'm sorry. And again there. Three incorrect in a row, sorry. Oh, not looking good! Come on, we need to see some green! Unfortunately not what we want to see there, sorry, Jordan but thank you so much for taking on Blueprinter. That is our specialist subject rounds all wrapped up. So let's take a look now at the leaderboard. Aaron holds on to the lead with 140 points, Zaria has 130 points, Toi has 100 points, and Jordan has 70 points. So unfortunately, we do need to eliminate a player now from Brain Busters. And I'm sorry to say it is you, Jordan. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. A $100 bank account is all yours. So what will you be doing with that money? - I'll probably spend it all on clothes and chocolate. - (LAUGHS) I like the honesty, Jordan. Thanks for coming on to the show. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to that Brain Buster. - Our three remaining players must stay focussed if they want to go to the Amygdala. It's not going to be easy, but I'm sure they're ready. - We're definitely ready, Mikey, ready to get straight into our Brain-Teaser now. All of our players today have gone through this specialist subject rounds and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are Spellbinder or Sequencer. So, Toi, Zaria and Aaron, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We'll start with Toi, who has decided to play Sequencer. Zaria would like to play Spellbinder. So it comes down to Aaron, who has chosen to play Sequencer. There we have it. Let's play Sequencer. Some big points up for grabs. The only question is, who will take them? Let's find out now as we head into our Brain-Teaser. Best of luck. Here's your first sequence. In which order were these animated movies` - Aladdin, Horton Hears A Who, and The Boss Baby. - ...first released, from earliest to most recent? That is the correct order for Aaron. In which order were these gaming consoles first released? Toi. - PlayStation Portable, Nintendo 3DS, and Xbox. - Toi hoping to catch up here. Unfortunately can't do so. In which order did Taylor Swift release these songs, from earliest to most recent? Zaria. - Love Story, Begin Again, Blank Space. - Quick, quick, quick on that. Zaria, you are correct. In which order were these book series first published? Aaron. - The Famous Five, Animorphs, The Treehouse Book series. - Aaron wanting some more points. And Aaron gets them. And that is our Brain-Teaser completed. Thank you all very, very much for playing. Let's take a look now at a final leaderboard. Aaron moves to 200 points, Zaria has 160 points, and Toi has 70 points. So unfortunately, we need to eliminate another player now on the show. I'm afraid it's you, Toi. Thank you so much for coming on. A $100 bank account is all yours, though. So what are you going to do with the money? - I'll probably just save it. - Smart choice, Toi. Thanks for coming. And congratulations to Zaria and to Aaron. For them, it's now onto the Brain Buster. - Who out of our two remaining players will be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion? Don't move a muscle! We'll be right back. * - If you are online banking, you are banking on the internet. Welcome back to Brain Busters. We just have two players remaining as they get ready to take on the ultimate obstacle course. It's the Brain Buster! - It's the moment of truth for the final two players. Aaron and Zaria, well done on making it this far. You guys ready to take on the ultimate obstacle course? Awesome. Let's jump up on our seats and let's get ready to fly. Here we go ` three, two, one, fly! Aaron and Zaria zip line their way across and into the Brain Buster. The winner will be playing for a massive $360, so you better give it all you've got. Down the Neurotransmitters for a start, and on to the Molecule Steps. I'm not familiar enough with fencing to know what sort of skills Aaron can use on the course today, but all I know is that he's out on top. Code is in and boom! Zaria's turn. Aced it! The Parietal Lobe is next. Being a contortionist, we know Zaria is flexible, but is she fast? They've made it up the wall and into the tunnel. Man, that was fast. Wait, is Zaria in the lead now? Whoa! She really boosted it there for a bit. Both pushing through the Frontal Lobe to the DNA switches. This is it. Who's going to activate their side first? Aaron! He's good to finish the race, but not before the Basal Ganglia. I don't think Zaria has enough time to catch up! Congrats, Aaron. You are the winner! Here comes Zaria now. Exciting race, Chris. - Nice work, Zaria, almost done. There we go. What a great race! Zaria, I'll get you to step across this way. We'll start with you as well. Now, you were trailing to start there, you caught up, and then unfortunately, Aaron here came and took it away from you again. - Yeah. - What was going through your head, Zaria? - How hard is that combination? - (LAUGHS) Well, you managed to get through it. You've come out second place today on Brian Busters. A great effort, Zaria. A $100 bank account is all yours. So what will you be doing with that money? - I think I'll get a bonsai tree. - Oh, fair enough. Great choice! I like the way you think, Zaria. Thanks for coming on to the show. Aaron, congratulations. To and fro there. You're huffing and puffing. How was the course for ya? - The hardest part's just tryna make sure you don't slow down. - Yeah. And you didn't at all. You went right through the course. As we see a puff more of smoke come up. Well deserved first place, Aaron. Congratulations. One more thing left to do, and that is taking on Amygdala. Aaron, congratulations. You're here at Amygdala, the final round for Brain Busters. Did we think we were going to get this far? - Hopeful. - Was always hopeful. Well, here you are. You've played really well, scoring 200 points today, which is a great effort. Zaria also did really well. 160 points for her. You get to take all those points, turn them into dollars. 360 is what we're playing for. Let's try to win as much as we can. Aaron, best of luck. Here comes question number one. Do the Hurricanes play netball or rugby? - Rugby. - (DING!) - That's the start we want. Which is New Zealand's largest city? - Auckland. - (DING!) - It is. The correct answer is High School Musical. - Oh. - Which South Korean singer had a hit with 'Gangnam Style'? - Can't remember what their name was. - Any answer? - I just can't remember it. I'm sure I know it. - (BUZZ!) - PSY was the correct answer there. In stone fruits such as cherries, where is the stone? - In the centre of the fruit. - Like cherries? - Yes. - Delicious. How good? Christmastime, cherries... Is in the centre the correct answer? - (DING!) - Well done. What does an anemometer measure? - Height. - Done well so far. Can we go right again with height? - (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately not height, sorry, Aaron. The correct answer is wind speed. Which form of transport has a rotor on top? - Helicopter. - Helicopter. - Yes. - Think it's a rotor on top? - (DING!) - You've got the correct answer. Well done. Finally ` is the film Finding Nemo set in space or underwater? - Underwater. - Now, you hadn't seen High School Musical. - Nah. - Have we seen Finding Nemo? - Yeah. - Right. Confident with this one? - Yeah. - Definitely can't be space. - Definitely can't. - 100% underwater. - Nemo's a fish. - That rules one of the options out, probably. - (DING!) - Yeah, of course it is underwater. Well done, Aaron. $216. Congratulations. What are you going to do with the money? - Save it. - Smart choice, Aaron. Great to have you here on Brain Busters. Thank you so much. $216! - Nice stuff.
