It's all about pure strength, speed and mana when it comes to the Brain Buster. Will today's final two contestants have the grit to take on this beast? Chris, let the games begin. - Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget ` you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. (UPBEAT ELECTRONIC MUSIC) Captions by Stephanie Phan. Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2021 - Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping I've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. Now, we'll start with Mega Memory before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where players can choose from six of our options They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet our players now. Evie, welcome to the show. Right into your martial arts. What kind of martial arts do we do? - I do Brazilian jujitsu, but I'm hoping to start kickboxing soon. - Very cool. How long were you doing that for? - Almost two years now. - OK, I just want to say, if I have to eliminate you, please don't flip me or anything, OK? - I'll try my best. - (LAUGHS) OK. Thank you, Evie. Moving on to Tana. Right into your basketball, my man. - Yeah. - Watch the NBA? - Yeah. - Favourite team? - Houston Rockets. - Nice choice. - Favourite player? - James Harden. - Beast mode, right? - Yeah. - Just like yourself on Brain Busters? That's the attitude! We've also got Aakash. Right into your cricket. - Yep. - Favourite thing about cricket, man? - It's fun. You can play with your mates, and it's really fun overall because... I play with a ball. - Yeah, absolutely. And do you have a favourite player? - Yep. Virat Kohli cos he's really consistent and really nice the way he plays his shots. - Yeah. Master with the bat, indeed. And we've also got Freya. Great to have you here on the show. Right into performing. You got dancing and drama. Have you done some shows recently? - Yeah, I was in Gang Show, which was a show in Auckland Grammar School, and it had 75 people in the cast. - Wow, big cast. So no stranger to the stage. How will she perform on the Brain Buster stage though? We'll find out very shortly. Well, good luck to each and every one of you. Let's get straight into our first round of the day. Let's play Mega Memory. Our players will get 10 points if they buzz in and give the correct answer, but buzz in and fail to do so, they will lose 10 points. 90 seconds on the clock. Let's get into it. Your time starts now. Which New Zealander directed the three Lord of the Rings films? Aakash. - Peter Jackson. - (DING!) - Molenberg and Vogel's are both types` Evie. - Bread. - (DING!) - Which continent is home to the white rhinoceros? Aakash. - Africa. - (DING!) - In the Pixar movie Up, the house is carried away by what? Evie. - Balloons. - (DING!) - Which Kiwi singer-songwriter's real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor? - (BUZZ!) - Lorde. What colour is Facebook's messenger app? Tana. - Blue. - (DING!) - The computer Deep Blue beat which game's world champion? - (BUZZ!) - Chess. Your eyes are responsible for which of the five senses? Evie. - Sight. - (DING!) - Beginning with W, which liquid is carried in an aqueduct? Evie. - Water. - (DING!) - What is signalled when a cricket umpire holds up a finger? Tana. - Out. - (DING!) - ...was the answer to our final question for Mega Memory. Thank you so much for playing, team. Let's take a look now at the scores. Evie has 40 points. Tana has 20 points. Aakash has 20 points as well. And Freya is on zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds, and I think we should definitely get some points on the board for Freya. So what would you like to play, Freya? - Sequencer. - Great choice. Let's play sequencer. Freya, please step forward. So, how long will you have been performing for, Freya? - Since I was four. - Nice. Do we remember our first production? - It was Annie. - Oh, very cool. A great one as well. Well, let's see if we can have a great score here for Sequencer. Best of luck. Let's get into it now. In which order were these singers born from the earliest to most recent. I think you're right with this one. Well done, Freya. Arrange these bicycles in order of their evolution from earliest to most recent. Had that order around the wrong way. Just need to swap it and we would have been right. Arrange these Disneyland theme parks in the order they first opened. Hoping this one's right. Come on, can we get it? So close again. You had it in the right order as well. Finally ` In what order were these landmarks erected in New Zealand? Our final Sequencer. History repeating itself. Unfortunate there, Freya, but still a great effort. Thank you so much for taking on Sequencer. Evie has 40 points. Tana has 20 points. Aakash has 20 points as well. And Freya also has 20 points. Now it's time for a second player to come out to the front and take on the challenge. And that player is Tana. What would you like to play? Equaliser. Thank you very much, Tana. Let's play Equaliser. Tana, please step forward. Now, I'm guessing we're pretty good at maths because we must be calculating all threes we're shooting from downtown. - Yep. - (LAUGHS) Excellent. All right, let's get into it, Tana. Best of luck. - 99. - (DING!) - Correct. - 147. - (DING!) - Well done. - 37. - (DING!) - Quick on that one. - 2. - (BUZZ!) - Negative two. - 61. - (BUZZ!) - 71. Finally for Equaliser ` - 19. - ...is the correct answer. Tana, well done there for Equaliser. Really impressive stuff. And I think you could have got those three you got wrong as well. You knew them, but still a great effort. Thank you so much for taking on Equaliser. Tana now has the lead with 100 points. Evie has 40 points. Aakash has 20 points. And Freya also has 20 points. So, we have two down with two to go in our specialist subject rounds. But all of our players are wondering if they'll have enough points to head to that Brain Buster. - It won't be easy for our top two players. If they really want to be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion, you've got to come with the right attitude. Let 'em know, Chris. - I'm on it, Mikey. Don't you worry. And don't you forget that you can play from home as well. Simply hop online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back a muri i te whakata. * - Nau mai, hoki mai. And welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Freya and Tana take on their specialist subject round and coming up to the front now is Aakash. So what would you like to play? - Blueprinter. - Thank you very much, Aakash. Let's play Blueprinter. Aakash, please step forward. I'm sure we must have a pretty good memory memorising all those incredible cricket shots you've got. - Yep. Mm-hm. - Let's put it to the test now as we take on Blueprinter. Best of luck. 30 seconds to take a look at what the Blueprinter is, 30 seconds to put in your answers. Here comes your Blueprinter. It's the Lego House. Your time starts now. Located near the original Lego factory in Denmark, the Lego House is the ultimate experience for any Lego fans. Children and adults alike are able to physically and digitally build from Lego bricks, as well as programme robots and animate models. 10 seconds left. Time's up. We'll now put 30 seconds on the clock for you to put in your answers. That time starts now. Halfway. Here we go. All locked and loaded. Let's see how we've gone here. Best of luck. First one, please. Test Driver is correct. Masterpiece Gallery makes it two. You've got three in a row. Flower Artist makes it four. Nicely done with City Architect. Didn't quite get the Character Creator... or Story Lab. Started off great, Aakash, but just fell away towards the end. Still, should be very proud of yourself. Thank you for taking on Blueprinter. Aakash now takes the lead with 120 points. We have Tana on 100 points. Evie has 40 points. And Freya has 20 points. So we do just have one more player remaining to take on their specialist subject round, and that player is Evie. So Evie, what would you like to play? - Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Evie, please step forward. First place after Mega Memory; you must be feeling pretty good? - Pretty nervous. - Can we get back to top spot? - Hopefully. - Let's try now. Best of luck. Here we go. Big sigh from Evie. Wants this one to be right... and it is. Goes right again. Well done. Quick to lock in the first two answers. Was searching for that third and final one. Was it the right choice to make? Yes, it was. Think we've got this one, Evie? - Not so sure. - Should be feeling pretty sure now. Playing a little bit of musical chairs with our answers. Sticking with this though. Is it right? Had it locked in as well. Sorry about that one. Moving on to our final Identifier. And that is the way we like to finish. Evie, very well played indeed. Thank you for taking on Identifier. Lovely stuff from Evie. So let's take a look now at the leaderboard. Evie has taken back first place with 140 points. Aakash has 120 points. Tana has 100 points. And Freya is on 20 points. So unfortunately, we do now need to eliminate our first play today on Brain Busters. And it's you, I'm afraid, Freya. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. A $100 bank account is all yours. What will you be doing with that money? - Ice skating or an escape room with my friends. - Both very fun choices. Great having you here, Freya. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to that Brain Buster. - Our three remaining players must be feeling the heat now. They've got to stay focussed if they want to go through to the Amygdala. It's not going to be easy, but I think they're up for it. - They definitely are, Mikey. One challenge before we can get to the Brain Buster. And that is, of course, our Brain-Teaser. All of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are Spellbinder or Reo Rangatira. So Evie, Tana and Aakash, please select which one you'd like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Evie, who would like to play Spellbinder. Tana has chosen Reo Rangatira. And Aakash has decided we'll be playing Spellbinder. There we go. Let's play Spellbinder. Let's see if we get some good points here. Best of luck to all three of you. Here comes your first word. Bargain. Tana. - (BUZZ!) - Needed an I after that A. Sorry, Tana. Gleam. Evie. - (DING!) - Correct. Please spell 'multitude'. Aakash. - (BUZZ!) - T-U-D-E. I'm sorry, Aakash. Convertible. Tana. - (DING!) - ...is the correct answer for our final word. Thank you all very much for playing our Spellbinder. For the Brain-Teaser, Let's take a look at our final leaderboard. Evie pushes that lead out to 170 points. Tana has 100 points. And Aakash has 90 points. So I'm sorry to say, Aakash, you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Tana, just sneaking in there ahead of you unfortunately. But you get to go home with a $100 bank account ` well deserved as well. So what will you be doing with that money? - I'm probably going to save up for a new laptop. - Nice choice, man, and best of luck with the cricket season coming up as well. Congratulations to Evie and Tana. For them, it's now onto the Brain Buster. - Who out of our final two players will be today's Brain Buster champion? Don't move a muscle. We'll be right back. * - We asked you in what year an EFTPOS machine was first used in New Zealand. The answer is 1985. Welcome back to the show and what a show it's been, but now it's time for our final two players to take on the Brain Buster. - I'm here with our final two players Tana and Evie, who are about to take on the ultimate obstacle course. You guys ready for this? Well done on making it this far. It's now time to jump onto our ziplines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three, two, one. Fly! The brain stem zipline brings Evie and Tana into the Brain Buster. Tana's a keen basketball player, and Evie is into her martial arts. Will either of those skills help them navigate the ultimate obstacle course? Nice spinning slide down the pole from Evie. But it's not about style points here in the Brain Buster; it's about speed. Speaking of which, Tana has sped through the corpus callosum already. Evie needs to pick up the pace. Boom! Tana enters the code with no problems. Here comes Evie now. Can she do the same? Yes! But Tana's almost up the parietal lobe already. Evie's using that upper body strength to pull her way up. Tana's in the tunnel now. And here comes Evie. I said she needed to pick up the pace, and that's exactly what she's done. Both Tana and Evie now make it onto the frontal lobe. It's a race to make it to the DNA molecule ladders. As soon as they find the right combination to activate their side of the Brain Buster, they can head to the finish. Evie and Tana's switches are both activated! It's going to come down to the wire. And... Evie has done it! Amazing race, Chris. - Wow, what a close race that was. So close. Evie, I'll get you to hop across this way. Tana, we'll start with you. Had the lead at the start there. Evie caught up. We thought you were going to catch up again. Unfortunately, couldn't quite get there. But, Tana, how much fun was that ultimate obstacle course? - It was good fun. - (LAUGHS) Good fun. I'll let you catch your breath, and tell me what are you going to do with that $100 bank account? Congratulations. It's all yours. - I'll probably put it into savings. - Save it for a rainy day? - Yeah. - Smart lad. Congratulations. Thanks for coming on to the show tonight, Tana. Evie, also trying to catch her breath. It was seriously a great race between the two of you. What was going through your head the whole time? - I need to win at the tunnel. (CHRIS CHUCKLES) - And that's what you did. You managed to pull it through, catch up. And here we are. Evie, one thing left to do, and that is taking on the challenge that is Amygdala. Evie, kia ora, and welcome to Amygdala. Great to have you here. How does it feel to be here? - Really good, actually. - A little bit nervous. Ready to take it on though? - Hopefully. - Well, you've done a fantastic job up to this point. You scored 170 points. Tana scored 100 points. Put those two scores together, and you're playing for $270. How much can we win? - Hopefully, all of it. - I like how you think. Let's get into it now. Best of luck. Here comes question one for Amygdala. Which character appears in the Marvel movies? Doctor Who or Doctor Strange? - Doctor Strange. - (DING!) - Correct. Is a limerick five or 50 lines in length? - Five. - (DING!) - Well done. Which country is home to the phrase 'shrimp on the barbie'? - Australia. - (DING!) - Definitely is. Well done. Which is used to stick things together ` Mellotape or Sellotape? - Sellotape. - (DING!) - Where would we be without some good old Sellotape? What word means pancake mixture and someone who hits a ball? - Batter. - Sure it's not something else? - Nope. - (DING!) - Sigh of relief. Batter is correct. What are raced in the America's Cup? - Boats. Sailing boats. - (DING!) - I think you might be right. How many astronauts were able to fit in a Gemini spacecraft? - Three. Or five` Three. - So, you're saying three. Also said five, but we've locked in three. - Yep. - (BUZZ!) - It's actually two. - Close. I was close. - You were close. Very, very close. About as close as you can get in fact. Next up, Pacific Rose and Royal Gala are varieties of which fruit? - Apple. - Apple a day gives us some more money in Brain Busters. - Of course, you know (!) - Is that how the saying goes? - Probably. I can't imagine it any other way. (CHUCKLES) - You said apple. - (DING!) - And it is the right answer. Finally, Evie, for Amygdala ` In lawn bowls, do you bowl along the ground or through the air? - The air. I have no idea what that is. - Never heard of lawn bowls? - I think I've heard of it. I just don't know what it is. - 50/50 shot, right? - (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately, it is along the ground. Still, a great effort here. Congratulations, Evie. You've won $189. Well played. What will you be doing with that money, Evie? - I want to go out for boba with my friends. - Awesome. Can't wait for you to do that, Evie. Thank you so much for coming on to the show once again. $189! - Woo-hoo! Shot, Evie. You happy with that performance? - Yep. - She should be, ay. Sigh of relief. Do you think you can take the Brain Buster, just like our girl Evie? Jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters.
