- We start with four, but in the end, there can be only one. Kia ora, I'm Chris Kirk, and this is Brain Busters. Who has the mind power to make it all the way through the rounds and end up at this, the Brain Buster? - Talofa lava. It's Mr Brain Buster, aka Mikey Falesiu. Things are about to get real, as we search for today's final two players who will compete to be the champion of the ultimate obstacle course. You don't wanna miss this! - Kia ora, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. (EXCITING MUSIC) Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2021 Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to Brain Busters. Today, we have four players hoping they've got what it takes to be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory, before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of our options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So, let's meet our players now. Firstly, Neve. Welcome to the show. Right into your surfing. What do we love about it? - I like the feeling of when the wave starts pushing you along and you, like, can feel it, like, moving with you, and jumping off at the end is quite fun as well. - Awesome. I bet that would feel great. I mean, I'd have no idea, because I need to be able to stand up to start with! Great to have you here on the show, Neve. Alex, great to have you here as well. You've been learning Latin. Why are we learning Latin? - Mainly because I have to,... - (LAUGHS) - ...but also, it's fun. I find it fun. - Nice work. What do you reckon your chances are here on Brain Busters today? - Decent. - Decent, all right. That's positive, it's positive. Great to have you here, Alex. Logan, great to have you here. Right into your football. Actually part of a football academy? - Yeah, it's really cool. We have a chance to improve our skills and get better. We have a really good coach, and he helps us to develop as a football player, hoping to get us into the first level eventually. - Nice. And so this is happening actually during school time? - Yeah, during school time. It counts as a period. - Very jealous, Logan. Great having you here. And finally, we have Amie as well. Right into your art, drawing specifically. What do we like to draw? - Mostly people. - How do you make it so you don't, like, have all weird, out of proportioned shapes and stuff for the eyes and the nose? - I just basically base it off reality, and then make it a little different. Like, my mouths aren't totally realistic. - All right. You can help me work on my stick figures after the show. Anyway, let's get back to it now. It's time to get into our first round of the day ` Mega Memory. 90 seconds on the clock as always. Let's get straight into Mega Memory. Your time starts now. Who makes laptops, ASUS or Thanos? Logan. - ASUS. - (DING!) - Who sung 'Castle On The Hill' in 2017? Logan. - Ed Sheeran. - (DING!) - Macaroni is a type of what? Logan. - Pasta. - (DING!) - In which sport is a serve hitting the net called a let? Logan. - Badminton? - (BUZZ!) - Tennis. - Is Samoa in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean? Neve. - Pacific. - (DING!) - Who is married to Leonard in 'The Big Bang Theory'? Neve. - Oh, wait. Pass. - (BUZZ!) - Penny. Which video chat software rhymes with 'type'? Alex. - Skype. - (DING!) - In the Marvel movies, which character does Benedict Cumberbatch play? Logan. - Dr Strange. - (DING!) - In computing, what does AR stand for? Amie. - Augmented reality. - (DING!) - Which is a US state ` New Cardigan or New Jersey? Logan. - New Jersey. - (DING!) - In 'The Ugly Duckling', what does the ugly duckling become? Neve. - Swan. - (DING!) - What is the only town on Rakiura Stewart Island? Amie. - Half Moon Bay? - (BUZZ!) - Oban. Rhyming with feast, which ingredient makes bread rise? Neve. - Yeast. - (DING!) - In which New Zealand city is Shortland Street filmed? Neve. - Auckland. - (DING!) - Is the correct answer, just getting in on time as well. Thank you for taking on Mega Memory. Let's have a look at our scores. Logan has the lead with 40 points, Neve has 30, Alex is on 10 points and Amie has zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject round, and starting us off today is Amie. What would you like to play, Amie? - Identifier. - Thank you very much. Let's play Identifier. Amie, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) So, Amie, do you think there's more pressure on you going first, or less pressure? - More pressure, I think. - More pressure. Can you handle that pressure? - Hopefully. - Let's get into it. Best of luck, Amie. Here comes your first question. Sure you don't want to put in tentacle there, Amie? Let's see if you've got it right to start with. Well done. Completely changed your approach there, Amie. Going down one avenue, took a turn, decided to take it another direction. Was it the right thing to do? - WHISPERS: Yes! - It sure was. Well played, Amie. Amie, happy with that one? Even more happy now because she is correct! Quickly going through her ABCs, making sure she's got it all correct, is it? Of course it is. Very impressive stuff, Amie. Great job. - I think I did that wrong. - Answers have been locked in, sorry, Amie. Know what you did wrong there as well. Yeah, sorry about that one, Amie. Finally for Identifier ` You are correct, Amie. A brilliant effort there. Fantastic job. Thank you for taking on Identifier. Amie jumps up to first place with 120 points. Logan has 40 points, Neve's on 30, and Alex has 10 points. So our second player to come forward and take on their specialist subject round today is Alex. What would you like to play? - Equaliser. - Thanks, Alex. Let's play Equaliser. Alex, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) Walking forward with determination, Alex. Ready to get into it? - Yep. - Best of luck, Alex. Here comes your first equation. - 84. - (DING!) - Correct. - 28. - (DING!) - Correct again. - 285. - (DING!) - Well done. - 21. - (BUZZ!) - 20.5. Can't get much closer than that. - 5.6. - (DING!) - Quick on that one. Finally for Equaliser, Alex ` - 15. - (DING!) - Is the correct answer. Well played, Alex. Some really great answers in here as well. Thank you very much for taking on Equaliser. Amie still has the lead with 120 points, Alex is close behind on 110 points. Logan has 40, and Neve is on30 points. So, an excellent start here on Brian Basters. But all four of our players are wondering if they've got what it takes to head to the Brain Buster. - One winner will go through to Amygdala to turn their points into dollars. But first, they've gotta get through this bad boy. Chris, you reckon they got this? - Yeah, I think they do, Mikey. And you've got this as well. You can join us by playing online. Simply head to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. * Nau mai, hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Amie and Alex take on their specialist subject round, and coming forward now is Neve. So, what would you like to play, Neve? - Spellbinder. - Thanks, Neve. Let's play Spellbinder. Neve, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) From surfing to spelling. Ready to take it on? Good luck, Neve. Here comes your first word. Polo. - (DING!) Correct. Sewer. - (DING!) Well done. Implement. - (DING!) Very quick with these words. Maximum. - (DING!) Correct again. Please spell boulder. - (DING!) - Awesome stuff. Melancholic. - (DING!) Great job. And your final word is logical. - (DING!) Blink and you missed it. You just got a perfect score. Neve, well done. That was very, very impressive. Thank you for taking on Spellbinder. Neve has now jumped to first place with 170 points. Amie has 120 points. Alex is on 110 points. Then we have Logan on 40 points. So, just one player remaining to take on their specialist subject round, and that player is Logan. What would you like to play, Logan? - Sequencer. - Awesome, Logan. Let's play Sequencer. Logan, please step forward. (DRAMATIC MUSIC) I'm sure we're under pressure a lot playing football, Logan, but how does the pressure compare to this? - You just learn how to deal with it. - Absolutely. Well, you seem pretty cool, calm and collected. So let's get straight into it. Here comes your first sequence. Best of luck. In what order were these animated movies released, from first to last? Hoping to ease that pressure, getting that first one right. And you've done it. Nice work, Logan. Put these New Zealand rivers in order of length, shortest to longest. Well played. In which order were these wars fought? You had the hand on chin, Logan. We were thinking about it. We were gonna swap the Spanish Civil War into that earlier position, kept it there in the middle. Was it the right thing to do? Yes, indeed. Well played. Logan. In which order were these books published? Much of a bookworm, Logan? - I read a lot, but not so much these books. - How do we think we're doing with this order? - I hope it's right. - Let's see. You are right. Finally for Sequencer, Logan. In what order were these buildings opened? Locking it in for our final Sequencer answer. But missing out, unfortunately. Actually, the Taj Mahal ` earliest, back in 1648, then the Sydney Opera House, and most recently, The Shard London. And that wraps up Sequencer. Logan, well played there. Some really solid answers from you. Thank you very much for taking on the challenge. And that is our specialist rounds complete. So let's take a look at the leader board. Neve holds onto first place with 170 points. Logan now joins Amie on 120 points, and Alex has 110 points. So, unfortunately, we need to eliminate our first player today on Brian Busters. And that player is Alex. You have been eliminated, Alex, but a $100 bank account is yours. So, what will you be doing with the money? - I'll probably buy a new pair of football boots. - Oh, awesome, man. Best of luck with the new season! And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Three players left, and go time is just around the corner. Can't wait to see who our final two will be. I hope they're ready for this! - Thank you very much, Mikey. And before we can get to the Brain Buster, of course, we have our Brain-Teaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds and we're left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are Reo Rangatira and Blueprinter. So, Neve, Logan, and Amie, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Neve, who has decided to play Reo Rangatira. Amie would like to play Blueprinter. So it comes down to Logan, who has decided to play Reo Rangatira. Thank you all very much for voting. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Can Logan and Amie catch up, or will Neve run away with the points? Let's find out now. Best of luck. Here comes question number one for your Brain-Teaser. What does rua plus rua equal in Maori? Logan. - Wha. - (DING!) - Is correct. Well done, Logan. Spell waiata. Neve. - (DING!) - That is correct. Well done. What is a Maori word for Wednesday? Neve. - Wenerei. - (DING!) - Correct again, Neve. Extending her lead. What kind of fruit is ropere? Neve. - Strawberry. - (DING!) - Awesome job, Neve. New Zealand is also referred to as Aotearoa. What does Aotearoa literally` Neve. - Land of the long white cloud. - (DING!) - That is correct. Well done. Thank you, everyone, for playing Reo Rangatira for the Brain-Teaser. Let's take a look now at our final leader board. Neve now has a whopping 290 points. Logan is on 150 points, and Amie is on 120 points. So, unfortunately, we have to eliminate our second player now for Brain Busters. I'm sorry to say it's you, Amie. It's not a bad score at all, but unfortunately, you do have to go. So, a $100 bank account is all yours. What are you gonna do with the money, Amie? - Probably put it towards an iPad. - Nice choice. Thanks for playing. And congratulations to Neve and Logan. For them, it's now on to the Brain Buster. - Where champions are made! Who will leaving as today's Brain Buster? Find out very soon. - Where champions are made! Who will leaving as today's Brain Buster? Find out very soon. * - Welcome back to Brain Busters. We've gone through Mega Memory, our specialist subject rounds, the Brain-Teaser, and for our final two, it's now time for the Brain Buster! - Neve and Logan are our final two contestants that have made it here to the ultimate obstacle course. Well done to you both. Now, Neve, painting is your thing. What got you into that? - I've always liked it since a young age, because I wasn't always as good at maths and science, so I was more diverted to creative stuff. - All good. Well, you ready to take on the Brain Buster? - Yes. - All the best to you. And Logan, welcome back. You just got back from a trip in Kenya. - Yeah. - How was that, man? - It was really cool. We went to Kenya as a missionary trip with a couple of other people from our church. And we helped out with an orphanage, and we went to a safari, and really enjoyed our time there. - Nice. I'm sure they're cheering you all the way from Kenya. You ready to do this? - Yep. - Nice, bro. Well done to you both. It's now time to jump up on to our zip lines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go! Three, two, one, fly! Neve and Logan, well done for making it to the Brain Buster, but this is as far as one of you will go, as only one can move on to Amygdala. A swift slide down the Neurotransmitter for both players, and fast footwork over the Molecule Steps. A huge $440 will be up for grabs for the winner of this one, but they've got to make it through the Brain Buster first. Logan is first to unlock the Parietal Lobe. Neve isn't far off from doing the same. Shaka! Up the Parietal Lobe now. Logan's got a bit of a lead. Will he be able to extend it here, or will Neve catch up? Neve has a whole lot more points than Logan ` 140 points, to be exact. But she risks handing them all over if Logan carries on at this pace. She surfed through the tunnel and now on to the Frontal Lobe to join Logan at the DNA Molecule Ladders. Neve appears to be closing that gap. It could be anyone's race once again. Just got to find the correct number combo... but Logan gets a very fast switch activation, meaning he is free to head for the Basal Ganglia. Neve is on her way now too, but I don't think she'll have enough time to catch Logan, who's scored himself a Brain Buster win. Tu meke! - Last wee bit, Neve. Hits that buzzer. That's our race complete. Neve, I'll get you to hop across this way, and we'll start with you as well. Trailing for a lot of it there. You almost caught Logan in the end there as well. What were you thinking as you were going through the course? - I don't really know. I was just... - Tryna go fast? - Yeah. - And you did a really great job, Neve. Thank you so much for competing today on Brian Busters. You, of course, get a $100 bank account. And what will you be doing with that money? - Probably gonna end up spending it in the op shops on grandma clothes. - (LAUGHS) Awesome, Neve. Thank you so much for coming on to the show. Logan, congratulations. - Thank you. - You've taken out the Brain Buster. And I think you might actually need to say thank you to Neve as well, cos she's just scored you a whole lot of points. The question is, can we turn those points into dollars? We're about to find out in Amygdala. Logan, what a race we had there on the Brain Buster. Now we've made it to make it to Amygdala. Congratulations again, but I think you got some serious thanking to do, because if we look back at the points, you scored 150 points, which is a great job. Neve, however ` 290 points. And you get to take all those points, add them to your score, which means you're playing for $440 dollars. Anything you wanna to say to Neve? - Ah, thanks! - (LAUGHS) Yeah, big thanks indeed. All right, Logan. Let's get into it now. Best of luck. What kind of place to stay in is a Hilton? - It's like` It's a hotel. - (DING!) - Correct. Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday are all characters in which 2019 animated movie? - I don't know. Frozen? Nah. - (BUZZ!) - Unfortunately, not Frozen. The Addams Family was the answer we were after. Which is not a character in Inside Out ` Sadness or Laziness? - Laziness. - (DING!) - Correct. In softball, what do you use to hit the ball? - A bat. - (DING!) - Bat is correct. When you're texting someone, what does 'TBH' mean? - To be honest. - Up to date with all the text lingo, are we, Logan? - Not really, nah. - (DING!) - T-I-C ` That is correct. In The House at Pooh Corner, what kind of animal is Tigger? - He is a tiger. - (DING!) - Tiger is right. A musical key is either major or what? - Minor. - (DING!) - Minor is correct. Finally for Amygdala ` which food is served both hard-boiled and soft-boiled? - An egg. - Final Amygdala answer. Played well. Can we go one more one right? - (DING!) - Yes, we can, Logan. Well done. Let's take a look. $308. Very well played, Logan. What are you gonna do with that money? - Probably go towards a new pair of football boots, and maybe a team's jersey or two. - Yeah, not surprised there, Logan. Great to have you on the show. Best of luck with all the football as well. Congratulations. $308! - Yew! Good stuff, Logan. Hey, if TBH is 'to be honest', what's OMG? - Oh my gosh. - My man! If think you could take on the Brain Buster just like our man Logan, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters.
