- We start with four, but in the end there can be only one. Kia ora. I'm Chris Kirk, and this is Brain Busters. Who has the mind power to make it all the way through the rounds and end up at this ` the Brain Buster. - It's your boy, Mikey Falesiu, AKA Mr Brain Buster. Today's top two players have their work cut out for them. Will they be up for the challenge? Let's find out. - Thanks for that, Mikey, and don't forget, you can play from home as well. So let's meet today's Brain Busters. Captions by Annie Curtis Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2021 Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Brain Busters. Today we have four players on the show who think they can be called the ultimate Brain Buster. We'll start with Mega Memory before we move into our specialist subject rounds, where our players can choose from six of options. They'll hope to gain enough points to stay in this game and avoid elimination. So let's meet those players now. Firstly, Annabel, welcome to the show. Right into horse riding. How did you get into that? - My family is quite horsey, so I kind of joined the bandwagon. - (LAUGHS) I like that, 'My family is quite horsey'. It's a cool way of saying it. - Yeah. - Excited to be here on Brain Busters? - Yeah, I'm very excited, very nervous. (CHUCKLES) - That's good. Channel the nerves, Annabel. Great to have you here. Komai, welcome to the show. Right into your basketball. Are we more shoot from downtown or take it up to the hoop kind of guy? - Um,... the both kind of guy. - Both kind of guy. - (LAUGHTER) - I like it. Favourite NBA team? - Golden State Warriors. - I won't talk too much about the season that's just been, then. - Yeah. - Moving on. Nick, great to have you on the show. Swimming's your thing. How often are we swimming? - Six or seven times a week for North Shore Swimming Club. - Wow, so is it a family affair as well? The whole family is right into swimming? - Yes, we're all quite into it. - So are you the fastest? - No, my sister is. - Oh, I see. Gonna beat her one day, though, right? - Uh, we'll try. - (LAUGHS) Let's try and win Brain Busters now, though, Nick. And we've also got Edith on the show. Edith, what do you want to be when you're a bit older? - I'd like to be a CEO of my own company. - Why's that? - I'd like to be a bit of a boss lady. (CHUCKLES) - Boss lady. I like it. Great to have you all here. Let's get straight into our first round of the day and play Mega Memory. We'll start building up the points right here. Good luck to all of our players. 90 seconds on the clock. Your time starts now. What colour is fresh celery? Edith. - Green. (DING!) - Is Milford Sound a recording studio or a place? Nick. - A place. (BUZZ!) - North Korea. Dairy products are made from which white, creamy` Komai. - Milk. (DING!) - The video game console Wii, Kinect, and PlayStation Move use which unique type of controls? Komai. - Oh... (SIREN WAILS) - (BUZZ!) - Motion was the answer to our final Mega Memory question. Thank you, everyone, for playing. Let's take a look at those scores. Annabel and Edith share the lead with 40 points each. Komai has 10 points, and Nick also has 10 points. We now move into our specialist subject rounds, and going first today is Komai. What would you like to play? - Reo Rangatira. - Thanks, Komai. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Komai, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Looking pretty chill at the moment. How are we feelin'? - Good,... - Ready to go? - ...I guess. Yep. - All right, best of luck. 20 points for each Te Reo-focused question. Here comes your first one. Spell 'Marama'. (DING!) - Kia ora. What is a Maori word for 'flower'? - Putiputi. (DING!) - Ae, that is correct. Translate this ` ko Heeni ahau. - I am Heeni. (DING!) - Correct. What is a Maori word for 'correct, procedure, habit or law?' - Tikanga? Oh... (DING!) - Well done. Nice work, Komai. Ko te hea manu i kata e a Maui e nganga ana ki te uru ki nga ku ha o Hinenui-te-po? - Te ruru? (BUZZ!) - Oh. Last one. If you're wearing 'mohiti', are you wearing glasses or a hat? - Glasses. (DING!) - You definitely are wearing glasses. Komai, well done. Not easy going first, but you've absolutely smashed it. Thank you so much for taking on Reo Rangatira. Komai has the lead now with 110 points, Annabel has 40 points, Edith also has 40 points, and Nick has 10 points. So our second player to come forward today is Nick. What would you like to play? - Equaliser. - Thank you very much, Nick. Let's play Equaliser. Nick, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) So your sister beat you in swimming, but can you beat your sister in maths problems? - Well, we'll find out. - (LAUGHS) We will indeed. 20 points for each equation. Here comes number one. (DING!) Well done. (BUZZ!) (DING!) Awesome stuff. (DING!) Correct. (DING!) Impressive. Finally ` (DING!) Finishing in style. Well done, Nick. A really strong finish there as well. Thank you for taking on Equaliser. Komai has 110 points. Nick now also has 110 points. Anabel has 40 points, and Edith has 40 points. So an interesting start indeed here on Brain Busters today. But all of our players are wondering if they're going to be able to hang out with Mikey. - Here on the Brain Buster, one wrong move can be a game changer. Hopefully not with today's final two. I'm sure they got this. - I'm sure they do as well, Mikey. And don't forget, you can play from home. Just hop online to HEIHEI Games. Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri e te whakata. * - Nau mai, hoki mai, and welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break we had Komai and Nick take on their specialist subject rounds, and coming up to the front now is Annabel. What would you like to play, Annabel? - Blueprinter, please. - Awesome. Let's play Blueprinter. Annabel, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Annabel, had a great start with Mega Memory. 40 points on the board ` gotta be happy with that. - Yeah. (CHUCKLES) - Let's see if we can get some more points for you now in Blueprinter. You're gonna have 30 seconds to have a look at your Blueprinter, and then 30 seconds to put your answers in. - Yep. - Good luck. Here comes your Blueprinter. It's the Galapagos Islands. Your time starts now. One of the best places on the planet to see wildlife, the Galapagos Islands was also where Charles Darwin visited in 1835, and the observations he made there lead him to develop his theory of evolution. (INTRIGUING MUSIC) 10 seconds, Annabel. (SIREN WAILS) And that's time. 30 seconds now to put in your answers, which starts now. Half way, Annabel. (SIREN WAILS) Just in the nick of time. Well done, Annabel. Happy with where you've placed everything? - Kind of. (CHUCKLES) - Let's see how we do. First one. (BUZZ!) Missed out with Santiago, sorry. (DING!) We got one, though, there. (DING!) That is two. (DING!) Nice work with Santa Fe. (BUZZ!) Missed out again, though. (BUZZ!) And that one's incorrect. (BUZZ) - (CHUCKLES) - Santa Cruz also incorrect. So a bit of a mixed bag, but still not too shabby. Thank you so much, Annabel, for playing Blueprinter. Komai and Nick still both share the lead with 110 points, Annabel now has 100 points, and Edith is on 40 points. So we do just have one more player remaining to take on their specialist subject round, and that player is Edith. What would you like to play? - Identifier. - Thank you, Edith. Let's play Identifier. Edith, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Ready to be a boss lady here on Identifier? - Definitely. - Excellent. Let's get into it. Good luck. Always good to get that first one right. Is it? (DING!) Yes. (DING!) Correct again. Well done, Edith. (BUZZ, DING!) Needed to swap around those top two there. Sorry, Edith. Speedy locking in those ones. (DING!) And you are correct. All right, last one. (DING!) Really want to be right? (DING!) And Edith is. Sigh of relief there. Well done. Thank you very much for playing Identifier. A nice way to finish there for Edith, so let's take a look now at the scores. Edith now has the lead with 120 points. Komai has 110 points. Nick also has 110 points, and Annabel has 100 points. So a very, very close game here on Brain Busters indeed, and unfortunately, we do have to eliminate our first player. I'm sorry to say it is you, Annabel. Still, what a great game, and a $100 bank account is all yours. What will you be doing with the money? - I'm going to buy some new clothes. - Nice choice. Don't want to save up for a horse with that? - No. (CHUCKLES) - Spend it on the clothes. - Yeah. - Fair enough. Great having you here, Annabel, and congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, it's one step closer to that Brain Buster. - The heat just turned up for the three remaining players, but there can only be one winner that goes to the Amygdala. Can't wait to see who it'll be, Chris. - Kia ora, Mikey, and before we can head to the Brain Buster, we have Brain-Teaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we are left with two options for our players to choose from. Those options today are Spellbinder and Sequencer. So, Komai, Nick and Edith, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Komai, who would like to play... Nick has chosen... And Edith has selected... There we go. Let's play Sequencer. It can't get much closer than this, just 10 points separating all of our players. So let's get into our Brain`Teaser that is Sequencer. Here comes number one. In which order were these films first released? Edith. - Christopher Robin, Home Alone, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. - Edith in lead currently. Can she extend it? (BUZZ!) Home Alone actually first, then Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and most recently, Christopher Robin. Arrange these days according to the New Zealand calendar. Edith. - Easter Sunday, Halloween, New Year's Eve. - From the earliest to latest. (DING!) Edith gets those points back. In which order did these New Zealand women first become members of Parliament? Nick. - Georgina Beyer, Helen Clark, Jacinda Ardern. - Nick wanting to get some more points. (BUZZ, DING!) But can't quite do it. Just needed to swap Helen Clark and Georgina Beyer around. Place these events in order of which occurred first. Nick. - Iron was discovered, Coliseum opened, World War I started. (DING!) That is correct, Nick. Finally ` Arrange these mobile phone features by their development from the earliest to most recent. Edith. - Hand held, texting, camera? - Edith wants to add more points. She's in the lead. Gets this right, she'll extend it. However, if she gets this one wrong, it could be game over. (DING!) Edith is correct, and that wraps up a very great round indeed for the Brain-Teaser. Thank you all for playing. Let's take a look at our scores. Edith has 150 points. Komai has 110 points. Nick also has 110 points. So we have a tie between Komai and Nick, which means we must now go to our tiebreaker round. I will ask a question. The first person to buzz in and give me the correct answer will go through to the Brain Buster. But if you answer the incorrect answer, your opponent will go through. Good luck to the both of you. He comes your tiebreaker question. Who said, 'He'd huff, and puff, and blow`' - The Big Bad Wolf. (DING!) - Nick, that is correct. Congratulations. You are through to the Brain Buster. Great show sportsmanship there by our two players as well. Komai, I'm sorry to say not fast enough on that buzzer, so you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. A $100 bank account is all yours. What are we gonna do with the money? - I'll just save up for something. - Smart choice, Komai. Thanks for coming on the show, man. - Yep. - And congratulations to Nick and Edith. For them, it's now onto the Brain Buster. - Our top two plays are about to race to the finish, but only one will be crowned as today's Brain Buster champion. Who will it be? Don't move a muscle. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. * - Nau mai, hoki mai, and welcome back to the show Our players have battled through, and now it comes down to this ` the Brain Buster. - Edith and Nick are our final two players who have made it onto the ultimate obstacle course. You guys ready to do this? Let's jump up on our zip lines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Fly! Swimming star takes off would-be boss lady Edith in today's Brain Buster. Nick did well to get here, making it through the tiebreaker with Komai. Can he make it all the way to Amygdala, or will Edith get there first? A quick glance at her code, and Edith is taking off into the Corpus Callosum. Nick's not messing around, though. He's made it to the Hippocampus and had no problems with remembering his code. Will it be the same for Edith? Uh-oh, looks like she's forgotten her code. This is bad news for Edith. Nick has made it up the Parietal Lobe already. She goes back for a second look. Hopefully she's got the code right this time. Yes! Awesome stuff, Edith. Don't give up. But Nick has a pretty comfortable lead now. Edith is willing herself up the Parietal Lobe, as Nick scrambles across the Frontal Lobe. He's at the DNA molecule ladder now. How fast can he find the combination? Nick's going to have to be fast, because Edith is on her way across the Frontal Lobe. This is an amazing comeback! And there it is ` Nick's side of the Brain Buster has been activated. Whoa, so has Edith's! Go, go, go! I can't believe how close this is going to be, Chris! Well, that ended up being a very close race in the end. Well played to both of you. Nick, come across this way. Edith, we'll start with you. Had a bit of a slip-up, forgot the code, had to go back. You were playing catch-up, and you almost did. - Yeah. - What was going through your head? - PANTS: Um, I was just a bit stressed out, but I think I got there in the end, yeah. - You did, and well done. Really solid effort. Second place today on Brain Busters, meaning you have a $100 bank account. What will you be doing with the money? - I'll probably save it up to buy something in the future. - Smart choice, Edith. Thanks for coming onto the show. Nick, congratulations. You had a bit of a help from Edith there, but she almost came and stole it away from you. What was happening in your mind? - Well, I had the thing pulled down, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this is going to be quite close.' (CHUCKLES) - Yeah, and it really was. Still, Nick, you held your own and did a fantastic job. For you, the journey is not over. One thing left to do, and that is taking on Amygdala. Nick, welcome to the amygdala. - Thank you. - Happy to be here. - Excited and nervous. - Good. Channel that excitement, channel the nerves, and let's get straight into Amygdala now. You've done really well to be here. You're playing for $270. Let's try and win as much as we can. Which is not a unit of mass ` the kilogram or the Instagram? - Instagram. (DING!) - Can't get many followers with a kilogram. Minestrone, pumpkin and mushroom are popular types of what liquid meal? - Soup. (DING!) - Correct. Would you buy groceries or glasses at Specsavers? - Glasses. (DING!) - You would. If you're trying to buy groceries there, you probably should be going to Specsavers. - (CHUCKLES) - Which US city is home to the Philly Cheesesteak? - California. - Which US city... - Oh, city. - ...is home to the Philly cheesesteak? You did lock in California. (BUZZ) Yeah, unlucky there. Sorry about that one. The correct answer was Philadelphia. - Oh, I wasn't getting that one. - (LAUGHTER) - On which part of a golf course do you traditionally use a putter? - The green. Play much golf, Nick? - No, not generally. (CHUCKLES) Mini-putt maybe, but... - On which part of a golf course do you traditionally use a putter? You said, 'the green'. (DING!) And that is the correct answer. What is blown into a recorder to make a musical note? - Air. (DING!) - Nicely done. Is moussaka a food or a musical instrument? - Food. - Why do we say food, Nick? - I've never heard of an instrument called moussaka, although it does sound like 'music,' but I'm not really sure. - You're right. It does sound like 'music'. Makes sense for that to be the one, then. Or is it food? (DING!) It is food, food that hails from the Balkans and Middle Eastern regions. Final Amygdala question, Nick. Are we ready? - Yes. - Was Hound Dog sung by Elvis Presley or Elvis Parsley? - Elvis Presley. (CHUCKLES) - No way it's Elvis Parsley? - No. - Have you heard some of Elvis Parsley's songs? - Oh, yes, I love Elvis Parsley (!) One of my favourites, you know (!) - (LAUGHS) Was Hound Dog sung by Elvis Presley or Elvis Parsley? (DING!) It of course was Elvis Presley. Well done, Nick. Let's take a look. $189. Great job, man. What are you going to do with that money? - I just got a kayak, so I'm looking for some new accessories. - Oh, awesome. All the best out on the water, Nick. - Thank you. - Congratulations ` $189. - Whoo! Nice job, Nick. I'm sure you won't forget where the Philly Cheesesteak comes now? It comes from...? - Already forgotten. - BOTH: Philadelphia. - (LAUGHTER) - If you think you can take on the Brain Buster just like our man Nick, jump online and head to HEIHEI Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2021 Thank you, NZ on Air.
