Moving along to Hunter. Great having you here on the show as well, Hunter. Rock-climbing's your thing. How did you get into that? - My friends were doing it, so I thought I'd give it a go. - So some serious upper-body strength. Mikey always talks about it. Is it gonna help you on that Brain Buster? You gotta get there first. So to help get there, let's get into our first round of the day. It's Mega Memory. 90 seconds on the clock for our players today. Let's get straight into Mega Memory. Let's take a look at the leader board Maiah has 20 points. Max also has 20 points. Hunter is on 10 points. And Melodie has zero points. So now we move into our specialist subject rounds, and playing first today is Melodie. What would you like to play, Melodie? - Reo Rangatira. - Thank you very much, Melodie. Let's play Reo Rangatira. Melodie, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) First up today for Brain Busters. How are we feeling, Melodie? - A little nervous. - Bit of pressure, but I'm sure you're more than capable of handling it. Best of luck. Here comes your first Te Reo-focused question. Please spell 'pehea'. (BUZZ!) - Needed an 'E' before that 'A', sorry. In English, how many is tekau ma whitu? - 17. (DING!) - Correct. What is a Maori word for the number 15? - Tekau ma rima. (DING!) - Ae, that is correct. What is the English for the type of penguin known as korora? - Um... Is it the blue penguin? (DING!) - It is indeed. Well done. Finish this whakatauki. Ki mai, ki ahau, he aha te mea nui o te ao? Maku e ki atu, he... - Um... I don't know. I'm just gonna guess 'tangata'. (DING!) - Tangata, he tangata, he tangata. Kia ora, Melodie. What is an English word for 'nui'? - Is it boy? Wait. (BUZZ!) Oh. - Big... - Oh. - ...was the answer there. Think you knew that one as well, Melodie. Well done, though. Some tricky ones there, especially that whakatauki one, but you absolutely nailed it. Congratulations. Thank you for starting us off. Melodie has the lead with 80 points. Maiah is on 20. Max also has 20 points. Then we have Hunter on 10 points. So, time for our second player to come forward. That player is Hunter. What would you like to play? - Identifier. - Thank you, Hunter. Let's play Identifier. Hunter, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) All right. Must be pretty handy at identifying that correct path to take when we're rock climbing, but how will we go in Brain Busters Identifier? Good luck. Here comes your first one. Nice start, Hunter. - Oh. - Excellent. Hunter goes right again. Impressive stuff, Hunter. Correct. Unlucky there, Hunter. Just needed top swap them around. Hoping to finish strong here. Can we do it? Unfortunately not. Needed to put in kina there. Unlucky, Hunter, but a really great performance there for Identifier. Thank you so much for playing. It's Hunter with the lead now, sitting on 110. Melodie has 80 points. Maiah is on 20. And Max also has 20 points. So, two of our players have already completed their specialist subject round, but all four of our players are hoping they can head to the Brain Buster. - Getting closer to crunch time, where our top two players will go head-to-head. Hopefully they've been doing some training, because this ain't gon' be easy. - Thank you for that, Mickey. And don't forget ` you can play from home as well. Simply hop online to Heihei Games. - Don't go anywhere. We'll see you a muri i te whakata. - Nau mai, hoki mai. Welcome back to Brain Busters. Just before the break, we had Melodie and Hunter take on their specialist subject round, and playing next is Maiah. So, what would you like to play, Maiah? - Spellbinder. - Thank you very much. Let's play Spellbinder. Maiah, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Maiah, obviously your counting must be pretty good if you can count to 3000 cows, but how's your spelling? - I think I should be right. - We will find out now. Best of luck. - Thank you. - First word, Maiah. Halter. (DING!) - Correct. Grapefruit. (DING!) - Well done. Succulent. (BUZZ!) - ...E-N-T. Sorry, Maiah. Slur. (DING!) - Well done. Spell prefix. - Could I have that as a sentence, please? - By placing a prefix on a word, it can change the meaning of the word. (DING!) - Correct. Trepidation. (BUZZ!) - ...I. Solder. (BUZZ!) - No 'U', I'm afraid. S-O-L-D-E-R is how we spell 'solder'. And that was our final word for Spellbinder. Maiah, thank you very much for playing. - Thank you. - Hunter holds on to that lead still with 110 points. Maiah is close behind on 100 points. Melodie has 80 points. And Max is on 20 points. So, we do just have one more player remaining to take on their specialist subject round. That player is, of course, Max. What would you like to play, Max? - Blueprinter. - Thanks for that. Let's play Blueprinter. Max, please step forward. (TENSE MUSIC) Last to go, Max, but are we feeling the pressure? - Not really. - Ready to take it on, then. - Yeah. - Let's jump straight into it. Best of luck. 30 seconds to have a look at what your Blueprinter is. 30 more seconds to put in your answers. Here comes your Blueprinter. Farewell Spit. Good luck. Your time starts now. Farewell Spit is New Zealand's longest sand spit and stretches 26km out into the Tasman Sea, creating a sheltering arm for Golden Bay. Despite the golden sand, the bay was actually named after the discovery of gold in the 1850s at Aorere. 10 seconds left, Max. (TENSE MUSIC) That's time. 30 more seconds now to put in your answers, which starts now. (TENSE MUSIC) Halfway, Max. Five seconds left. Just missing out on that last one, unfortunately, but, still, let's hope we can see a whole lot of green. First one. Of course. Farewell Spit is correct. So is Westhaven Reserve. You got three in a row. Missed out on Harwoods Hole, though. Collingwood also incorrect. Our last one is correct. So well played there, Max. Unfortunately, we couldn't get that last one in there, but still a really good effort. Thank you for taking on Blueprinter. - Thank you. - So that is our special subject rounds complete. Let's take a look now at those scores. Hunter has 110 points. Maiah has 100 points. Max also has 100 points. And then we have Melodie on 80 points. So, unfortunately, we do need to eliminate our first player today on Brain Busters. And I'm sorry to say it is you, Melodie, but of course you get a $100 bank account. What would you like to do with that money? - Probably go to the mall with my friends. - I love your honesty, Melodie. Enjoy that. You definitely deserve it. And congratulations to our three remaining players. For them, that's one step closer to the Brain Buster. - Three players remaining, which means very soon the top two will be flying, climbing and racing their way through the ultimate obstacle course to see who will be crowned as today's champion. - And how we work out that champion, Mikey, of course, we have the Brainteaser. Now, all of our players today have gone through their specialist subject rounds, and we're left with two options for our players to choose from. Today, those options are... So, Maiah, Max and Hunter, please select which one you would like to play now. Thank you, everyone, for voting. We will start with Maiah, who has decided to play... Equaliser. Max would like to play... Equaliser as well. And Hunter has chosen... Sequencer. So, there we go. We are about to play Equaliser. So, a very close game indeed here at the moment. Who will go through? Let's find out now. Best of luck. Here comes your first equation. Max. - 22. (DING!) - Correct. Max. - 79. (DING!) - Max is correct again. Max. - 18. (DING!) - Max, again, well done. Maiah. - Negative-one. (DING!) - Is correct. Maiah sneaking in for our final Brainteaser equation. Well done. And with that being said, let's take a look now at the final scores. Max has now moved to 190 points. Maiah has 130 points. And Hunter has 110 points. So a very close game there in the end. But, unfortunately, Hunter, I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from Brain Busters. Great having you here on the show. Of course a $100 bank account is also yours. What do you want to do with that money, Hunter? - Just put it in the bank. - Save it for a rainy day. I like how you think, Hunter. Thanks for coming on the show. And congratulations to Maiah and to Max. For them, it's now on to the Brain Buster. - Our two finalists have made it this far, but we all know they can only be one champ. Don't go anywhere. We'll be back. - We asked you what the GST was in New Zealand, and the answer is 15%. Welcome back to Brain Busters. We just have two play as remaining as they get ready to take on the ultimate obstacle course. It's time for the Brain Buster. - Maiah and Max are our final two players. Well done to you both on making it this far. Now, Maiah, netball is your sport. Tell us about that. - I play a shoot and defence, and I've played since I was about 8. - Nice. You reckon your skills can help you get that win today? - I'm hoping so. - Nice confidence. Best of luck to you. And, Max, rugby is your thing. What got you into that, bro? - My friends started playing it, so thought I'd give it a go as well. - Your friends gonna be happy you made it this far? - Yeah. - They're gonna be even happier if you make it to the finish? - Yeah, I will. - Ae. All the best to you both. It's now time to jump up on to our zip lines, and let's get ready to fly. Here we go. Three, two, one, fly. Welcome to the ultimate obstacle course, Maiah and Max. These two have been pretty evenly matched throughout today's episode, but only one can take out the Brain Buster. Down the Neurotransmitters and on to the Molecule Steps. How will we go memorising the codes? Make sure they stay in your head as you hop through the Corpus Callosum. Max makes it over and wastes no time inputting the code. Nailed it. Here goes Maiah. Can she do it? Nice. Max is nearly up the Parietal Lobe. Hoo-hoo, that was fast! Maiah has some real catching up to do after that one. Max is out of the tunnel and ready for the Frontal Lobe. So close, Maiah. Keep at it. Yes. Nice one. Max has time on his side with the switches. But Maiah's coming through the tunnel now. Can she get to the DNA Ladder before Max changes the light? No! Max activates his side of the Brain Buster and heads for the Basal Ganglia to the finish. He flew up that Parietal Lobe and did not stop. Congrats, Max. You are the winner. Maiah, you did an awesome job today. It's not an easy obstacle course, and Max didn't make it easy for you either. Those 3000 cows of yours will be very proud. Another superb race today, Chris. - Buzzer to finish. Smile on the face. Well done, Maiah. Get you to come across this way as well, and we'll start with you. It's called the ultimate obstacle course for a reason, but you have showed it whose boss. Did we enjoy it? - Sure did. - Absolutely. That's the main thing. And congratulations, second place today, meaning you school yourself a $100 bank account. What will you be doing with that money, Maiah? - Probably put it away for when I get my truck. - Save it for a rainy day. I like it. Say hi to all the cows from me as well, OK? - Yep. - Thank you, Maiah. Congratulations, Max. You've taken out the Brain Buster today. What was going through your head when you were on the course? - Go fast. - And that's exactly what you did. Fast enough to secure you first place and a trip hanging out with me at Amygdala! Well, Max, just like the Lakers who took out the NBA final, you have taken out Brain Busters. How does it feel to be here, the final round? - Pretty good. - Can we get them all right? - Hopefully. - Let's go for it. Best of luck, Max. You're playing for $320. Let's see how much we can get. - OK. - Which cartoon adventurer has a monkey friend called Boots? - Dora. (DING!) - Sure is Dora the Explorer. What sport is played in the video game NBA 2K20? - Basketball. (DING!) - Nice helpful question for you. Which country uses the tourist marketing slogan '100% Pure'? - I'm not sure. - Worth a guess. Country. - Africa. (BUZZ!) - New Zealand was our answer. Steve Jobs was most famous as the head of which company? - Apple. (DING!) - Well done. Which cartoon ogre is played by Mike Myers? - Shrek. I think. - You think? (CHUCKLES) - Yeah. - Could be something else maybe? - Yeah, maybe. - Going with Shrek, though. - Yeah. (DING!) - Shrek is correct. Black truffles are commonly grown in the soil below what type of tree? - Black truffle tree. - Logical answer. (BUZZ!) Not the case, though, sorry. Oak tree was the answer. In actual fact, a kilogram of truffles can sell for up to $9000 in New Zealand. That's crazy money. What was Cinderella's slipper made of? - Glass. - A glass slipper you reckon. - Pretty sure. - Be a bit tricky to walk in glass shoes, wouldn't it? - Yes. (DING!) - Somehow, Cinderella managed to do it, though. Well done. Which type of pizza is said to be named after an Italian king's wife? - CHUCKLES: Pepperoni. - Can't go wrong with a classic pepperoni. - Mm. - Would pepperoni be named after an Italian king's wife, though? (BUZZ!) Unfortunately not. Margherita was the answer. And finally for Amygdala, Max, espresso is a way of making what? - Coffee. - Final answer for Amygdala. Locking in coffee. (DING!) Which is the correct answer. Well done, Max. Let's take a look. $192. Fantastic job. What are you gonna do with the money? - Probably gonna save up for a new phone. - Awesome stuff, Max. It's been great having you here on the show. Thank you so much. $192! - Shot, Max. Have you ever tried truffle before? - No. - Hopefully with that prize money, you get to try some, eh? You never know. It's so good, bro. If you think you can take out the Brain Buster just like our bro Max, jump online and head to Heihei Games. - Thank you so much for joining us today. Until next time, that's it for Brain Busters. www.able.co.nz Copyright Able 2021 Thank you, New Zealand On Air.
