(Sobbing) Oh, no, no. BOWERS: We are very much treating this fire as a crime. Detective Stone's firsthand account indicates this might have been arson committed by a disgruntled member of the Church of the Believers. Did they find the church leader yet, - Adrian Shannon? - Still at large. You know you have like-minded friends at the NYPD. If Michaela Stone goes on the offensive, your friends will have your back. What happened to nonviolence? Michaela Stone is a threat. I had nothing to do with the fire. You had motive and opportunity. No, it's a smokescreen, and you're falling for it. - Jared Vasquez is an Xer. - Michaela. Michaela Stone, you're under arrest for arson, conspiracy to commit arson, and homicide. You are never gonna live this down, Jared! You have to keep your mouth shut. I just saved your life. Can I get some headphones? Here you go, sweetheart. FLIGHT ATTENDANT: (over P.A.) Ladies and gentlemen, we are in the final boarding process for Montego Air Flight 828... - Headset, anyone? - I'll take one. Thanks. ...nonstop service to New York. Welcome aboard. Amen, amen. I always say a little prayer before a flight. Brings me peace of mind. My dad was a preacher, so we prayed all the time. Stayed up at night praying God would make me worthy. You are worthy in God's eyes. Not my dad's. He made that very clear, so I finally got up off my knees and walked away. And I'm still gonna pray for you. Yeah, well, don't worry about me. MICHAELA: They need to worry about Adrian. I mean, the NYPD should be trying to find him instead of trying to pin the fire on me. I'm still trying to get you out. Need anything? Water? No. -Zeke. -You okay? Yeah, I'm fine. I can't believe Jared arrested you. He knows you didn't do it. There's something else going on here. - What? - I don't know exactly, but... Jared said something. He said he was saving my life. (Scoffs) I don't care what he said. His actions have made it pretty clear that he's an Xer. He's probably just covering his ass. Why do you still trust this guy? I don't know. After everything that's happened, I shouldn't, but... But you always see the best in everyone? Zeke, when are Saanvi's treatments gonna start working? Visit's over. He needs to go. Ben and I are getting a lawyer and getting you out of here. Hurry. Jared, talk to me, please. What is going on? Just keep your mouth shut. (Engines roaring) BEN: Well, that's a relief. Bye. Excuse me, ma'am. I don't think you should be lifting that. She wants bacon. And she strongly suggests you do not get in our way. Only 29 weeks old and already running the place. I love it! Who was that on the phone? Uh, Teresa Yin, the attorney who got Zeke out. She's taking on Michaela's case. I'm headed there now. It's crazy to me that anyone would think that Mick was involved in that arson. The only thing the police need to focus on is finding Adrian. But wasn't it Isaiah who set the fire? I thought you said Adrian looked shocked? He could've conned us. At the very least, Adrian created a murderer. So horrible. Who would plan something so -- (intense music) MAN: (Echoing) Help. Help. Help me! (Train horn blowing) "Help me"? I just had a Calling. Thanks for the smoothie. Well, that's what older sisters are for. Well, technically, I'm older. I was born before you. Okay, a minute and a half before. Eh, it still counts. How are we gonna explain that to a baby? Twins separated by five years? The plane disappearing and coming back. The Callings? Voices, visions... We should make the baby a guidebook, sort of like a "welcome to our weird family" road map with pictures and captions, and then when she gets old enough, we can read it to her. What do you think? Work with my older-younger sister to make something for my younger-younger sister. I'm in. And that is why we need a guidebook. Let's go get some supplies. - What's going on? - Her lawyer's here. She's getting out. But this isn't over. - I've got this covered. - Simon told me to handle it. I'm gonna offer to give her a ride. We'll find ourselves in a rough neighborhood. And she doesn't find her way out. That plan's not gonna work anymore 'cause she's leaving with her lawyer. - WOMAN: No, that's correct, ma'am. - Don't worry. I know exactly how to deal with Michaela Stone. -Ma'am, calm down. -Okay. But I'm telling Simon this was your call. Good. 'Cause it is. Any of these? No. It -- It was kind of like this one, but the shoreline was rockier. Alright, "New York, river, bridge, rocks"? There was a minaret or something like that on the opposite side. Did you hear anything? A train whistle, I think. That's it. High Bridge. That's where I was. Crosses the Harlem River. (Train horn blowing) I can't get over how real the Callings feel. This is exactly what I saw. BEN: I don't hear any cries for help, though. So, we wait? (Cellphone chimes) It's Michaela. - She's out. - Oh, thank God. Ben? Someone's watching us. No, no, no! Wait! Stop! Adrian. * Where the hell have you been, you son of a bitch? The whole world's been looking for you. ADRIAN: I don't want to be found, okay? You're a suspect in a murder investigation. That's not gonna happen. GRACE: Adrian? Oh, my God. We're taking him straight to the police station. Wait. This can't be a coincidence. What are you doing here, of all places? A Calling. Tried to ignore it, but it got louder. Finally gave in. Walked all the way here from Queens, dodging cop cars and traffic cams the whole way. We can't turn him in. Are you kidding? The Calling helped us find him, and he's got to be held accountable. Ben, why would the Calling bring us together all the way out here only for us to bring him all the way back? (Extreme's "More Than Words" playing) # Saying "I love you" # # Is not the words I want to hear from you # # It's not that I want you # Surprise! (Laughs) You cheese ball! # How easy # What are you doing? # It would be # # To show me how you feel # I have loved you from the first moment I laid eyes on you, Michaela Beth Stone. # More than words # You know, they say through thick and thin, good times and bad. But I'm here to tell you in front of everyone that loves you... # To make it real # ...I will never leave your side, whatever we face. # Then you wouldn't have to say # # That you love me # (Laughing) Jesus. # 'Cause I'd already know # Will you marry me? (music continues) I got the photos to glue in. And I dug up some stickers that I think could help tell the story. So, now how are we gonna explain Callings to the baby? What if we just show one? Your drawings. Yes, that's -- that's perfect. Um, let's find a happier one. Yeah, not a lot of those. True, but they've led to so many happy endings. You found Zeke with this drawing. And, um, this one, you helped save those people under the warehouse. I guess there were a lot of happy endings. What's this one? It was the first one I ever drew, and I actually never figured out what it meant. It still kind of creeps me out. Okay. Well, let's just go with this one, then. And we could add a picture of Zeke now with Auntie Mick just to show how great it all turned out. (intense music) Can you please tell me what's going on? My mind is about to explode. This your first time back here? - Yeah. You? - While you were...gone... I came here a lot. Whenever I wanted to talk to you, I'd come here -- when I wanted your blessing to start seeing Lourdes, when your mom died, when the plane came back. I mean, I even came here when you took me down in court. Jared, I have to tell you how sorry I am about that. And, that time, it didn't make me feel better. In fact, it made me feel worse. So I walked into a bar and ended up clicking with the bartender. And then I realized I was in the belly of the beast. The Xers. So you joined them because of me. I did. Because the best way to destroy a hate group is to blow it up from the inside. - Oh, my God. - You said you'd never feel safe - with them out there. - You've been undercover? Why didn't you tell me? Because I needed you to believe I was in so deep that they'd believe. It took a lot to gain their trust, Mick. The blown police raid. You were right. I tipped them off. I turned you in to I.A. for that. You can't help being a good cop. You know what the thing that killed me the most was? That you bought it. Yeah. You were convincing. Guess you can't help being a good cop, either. The bartender, she's one of them? No, but she loves her brother, and he is one of the worst. You really care for her? Yeah, I do. I, um, have to tell you something. I bugged her bar. And I have to tell you something. I know. Okay. I'm all in. I want to help. In the Calling, I heard a voice yelling for help. Same. I tried to ignore it, but, my God, the Callings are manipulative. Says the cult leader. I created a religion. Well, your religion led one of your followers to murder people in a fire -- That wasn't my fault! The Calling was responsible for that fire. What? How exactly? I got a vision of a burned-out airplane with dead passengers everywhere, and it freaked me out. So I went to my right-hand, Isaiah, told him what I had seen, right down to the champagne glasses, and then he made it all come true. No, this is on you. You created a monster by making Isaiah think we're all immortal. The Calling was warning you to stop. You don't know that! You follow the Callings blindly. Have you even considered the possibility that they create more bad than good? No, I refuse to believe that. The Callings have saved so many people. "Signs and wonders." Sorry, what? Where do these Callings come from? Do you ever ask yourself? Only every day. Grace is right. You're here for a reason. - Maybe the Calling is trying to restore your faith. - Ben? Wish I could believe that. My water just broke. It's too early. Come on. What am I supposed to do now? I don't give a damn what you do, Adrian. I've got to get my wife to the hospital. * Can someone please tell us what's happening? Where's Dr. Elbaz? Away. She wasn't expecting this delivery for another two months. Grace has some internal bleeding. It sometimes happens when there's been a prior trauma. The car accident. - Is the baby okay? - She's stable right now, but your blood pressure is dropping. - What's the solution? - Normally, delivery. Great, so let's deliver. 29 weeks is early, but she'd make it, right? Unfortunately, we can't. You have a condition called placenta percreta. The placenta has invaded the surrounding tissue. That's what has ruptured, making this a much more complicated and more dangerous surgery. You'd be risking your life. There are a handful of specialists who are qualified to perform this. We're trying to locate them now. Okay, how long will that take? We have calls out. There's someone here in town, but he isn't responding. We found someone in Boston. She can be here in five hours. Can the baby hold on that long? We hope so. (gentle, solemn music) (Indistinct conversations) There she is. It's about time, Stone. You can hide behind your lawyer to avoid questions about the crime, but you're damn well gonna answer questions about your job. My office, now! You, too, Vasquez. And I want to make sure you're both comfortable, 'cause you're gonna be spending a lot of time with me. Welcome to the team, Stone. Who the hell are you? What do you want from us? (Train horn blows) (intense tone) MAN: (Echoing) Help! Help! Help! Aah! MAN: Help! Help! Help me! Help me! (dramatic music) JARED: It took me a while to figure out exactly who was at the top of the Xer's food chain. BOWERS: Simon White. Professor at Astoria. I've met him before. He's in Ben's department. He's a classic hate-group figurehead. He uses academic credentials to gain all sorts of followers in fringe online forums, meantime tapping uneducated recruits to start violence. While keeping his nose clean. That's what makes him so dangerous. He's convinced himself that 828ers are terrorists controlled by evil voices you all hear in your heads. Whatever gave him that idea? Wild conclusions based on his own digging around. Oh, my God. These are Ben's boards. His plan is to release damning information about you all, get other people worked up. Incite them to attack passengers. Problem is, I can't get anything to stick in court. Even when he gave the green light to kill you, he still didn't say enough to incriminate himself. This guy's careful. So you guys don't have anything on him? We could pick him up on lesser charges -- - conspiracy to illegally obtain your confidential records -- - That gives you mail fraud. - Sneaking into Ben's garage? - That's a slap on the wrist, - and you'd have to blow your cover. - And I'd have to blow my cover. Is this what it's like when you two get along? Yeah, afraid so. Okay, then. Then let's put our heads together and figure out a way to nail Simon to the wall. (Cellphone chimes) Tamara wants me to come by the bar. Go. Check in with us in an hour. Have to keep up appearances. Speaking of keeping up appearances. And you find that paperwork, and you don't come back until you do! See? I can be fun. Oh, my God. I swallowed a lot of water. (Coughing) You're a miracle. I'm not. I promise you. Let's get you to a hospital. Look how grumpy you looked here. I had been enjoying life as an only child for an amazing 90 seconds until you came along and stole my thunder. Well, I was an only child for 5 1/2 years, and I prefer having a sibling. Siblings. Yeah. Me, too. (Cellphone ringing) - TJ? - Dad. Hey, Dad. We're just -- (intense music) Oh, no. Oh, no. Okay. We'll be right there. It's Mom. They're on their way. You want me to call Mick? Not yet. I just need it to be the four of us together. We're gonna figure it out, okay? We're going home together. (Alarm beeping) - What does that mean? - It's the blood-pressure monitor. Let me go grab the doctor. (Monitor beeping) I want the surgery. I don't care who does it or what happens to me. I just want my baby safe. Grace, you could die. You heard him. - He -- The doctor said -- - I'll take that risk. The minute our baby is in danger, we have to get her out. We have to save her. It's our job as parents to take care of our kids... no matter what. (Sighs) Promise me. (Monitor beeping rapidly) Uh... Uh, okay. Grace? Grace. (Alarms beeping) Grace? What's happening?! Excuse me. Baby's crashing. Your wife can survive this with a few transfusions, but I don't think your baby will. - She -- She wants the surgery. - I don't advise that. I have never done this surgery before. I understand that. Can you save the baby? Yes. But your wife could die. Save the baby. It's what Grace wants. Just wait till my kids get here. Okay. We'll prep her. (Car horn blares) Hey. - Tamara, what's going on? - It's Billy. What he do? He's really gone too far this time. Look who I found. * (tense music) Hey. Gimme your phone. - What? - Gimme your damn phone. - Yo, Billy, man, what the hell?! - He had you in his contacts! I think he's been tracking you. (Grunts) This is the guy your ex-fiancee threw you under the bus for, right? - Yeah, how'd you find him? - When your ex got off scot-free, the three of us were gonna welcome her home, but then this guy showed up instead. So we roughed him up a little to send her a message, and we figured that you might want to take a crack at him. (Grunts) Hey, and guess what else we figured out. His face is all over Ben Stone's wall. You did good. (Chuckles) Come on. What? What, where we going? Just shut up and follow me. It's weird that Jared hasn't checked in yet. He had 60 minutes. It's been...64? Exactly. To Jared, 60 minutes is 60 minutes, unless he can't step away. So what do you want to do? 'Cause I'm not about to blow his cover. Wait, no, no. H-He doesn't have to check in with us. We can check in with him. I bugged that bar, remember? Yeah, but that doesn't mean that we should listen to anything that he -- You know you have trust issues. Yeah, I've been told. (Chuckles) TAMARA: Well, you need to hurry before Billy does something stupid. I'm scared to death. Hey, listen to me. I got this, okay? Just take off. Seriously, go. Okay. (tense music) Hey, why you dragging me back out here? Uh, I need a drink. So do you. That was a big move, you bringing this guy back here like that. Eh, he's not as tough as he looks. Zeke. His name's Zeke. - They have Zeke. - We have to move in now. Let's just take a moment and think, okay? (Jukebox chiming) (Extreme's "More Than Words" playing) Wait. Sorry, hold on. (Extreme's "More Than Words" playing) This song. That's our song. He knows we're listening right now. Alright, listen to me carefully. You got to trust me on this. # Saying "I love you" # MICHAELA: He wants us to hold off. BILLY: What's with the music? You want to slow-dance with me? It's just a little white noise. Billy, I'm not sure I trust your guys. Look, man, this is a serious situation. We need to bring Simon in on this now. Why would we do that? He's gonna be pissed at me - for "going rogue." - Nah, man. Think about it. I mean, this guy is up on Ben's wall? That's got to mean something. Simon will know exactly how to handle the situation. Eh...I don't know. Look, you bringing Zeke into the back room... # More than words # ...bro, that was the move. Even if he wasn't tied up, we got him three on one -- four on one now, and Jarecki's packing. So are you. I only wish I would've made that move myself. You're proactive. Simon's gonna finally realize how valuable you are. Okay. I'm just gonna say that we have a major development, and he should get his ass over here. Damn it if you two aren't Mr. and Mrs. Smith. We can tap in to the feed from our phone. I'll get a team. He's gonna be okay. # More than words to show you feel # They both are. # That your love for me is real # Mom. Mom. Are you -- Are you -- - Oh, my God. Mom. - Mom! (Indistinct announcement on P.A.) The baby's heart rate is dropping. The surgeon's still three hours away. If you want me to do the surgery, we need to do it now. I understand. Let's do it. (Indistinct announcement on P.A.) You're gonna be okay. You have to be okay. (Crying) Please. Stop. Stop, stop. I'm changing my mind. We're not doing the surgery. Grace said we have to take care of the kids, and that's what I'm gonna do. No surgery. Just... give her the transfusions. (Voice breaking) Just save my wife. Everything will turn out well. WOMAN: (over P.A.) Laboratory, dial 5-1-2, 5-1-2. Oh. Are you family? No. Sorry, I should just leave. No. He can stay. This man saved my life. - Oh, I don't know if I really saved your -- - No, I know. If you hadn't come out of nowhere, I'd be dead. Wow. Well, you are very much alive. Labs check out. X-rays show no water in the lungs. You're good to go. (Indistinct conversations) Guess you'll need these back. You really have been a miracle. Thank you. - Excuse me. - You know, if -- if there's any way I can help you out. -Oh, no, thanks. -Excuse me? Stop! Oh, my God. I can't believe I just found you. I hope this is important. We have a busy afternoon. Yeah, sorry for the 911, but you're gonna want to see this. BILLY: Hey, Simon. Look who we found. It's Zeke from Ben Stone's wall. I know who it is. What is he doing here? We thought you'd be impressed. This is not the plan. Well, we got him now. Should we just let him go? The minute we release this guy, he's gonna call the cops, and then we'll all be implicated. It puts everything I've planned at risk! So don't release him. Get rid of him. And blame Michaela Stone. He's the guy who shot her, right? It'll look like revenge. Is Mom gonna be okay? Yeah, buddy. She needs a blood transfusion, but she's gonna come through this. Hey, guys, you mind waiting outside? (Monitors beeping) The transfusion has started. We should see an improvement in your wife soon. But the foetal heart rate is dropping. I'm so sorry. Can I have a minute? I need you to know I'm doing this for Cal and Olive. They can't lose you. Neither can I. I love you too damn much. Or maybe I don't love you enough, not enough to put what you'd want ahead of what I want. Because I want you, Grace. And I know you'd give your life to protect this baby. But you're not here, so... I need you to please... please forgive me. You sweet... sweet baby girl. I'm so sorry. I'm stacking the deck against you, and you're not even born yet. I know the odds are slim, but... ...I have faith. I have faith you're gonna make it somehow. I just -- I just do. And if you do make it, you'll be the luckiest baby girl in the world, because you have the world's -- (Sniffles) ...world's best mom. I need to do this. I'm sorry. I need you to fight. (Sniffles) I found him. He was downstairs. - BEN: What do you mean? - This is the specialist I told you about. We couldn't reach him. - Oh, my God. Dr. CHMAIT: This is the patient? - Grace, is it? - Uh, yes. Uh, they said you could save my wife and my baby? I've done this surgery many times, but the baby's heart rate has been dropping. - We need to go now. - Yeah, yeah, okay. You can't come, sir. Uh, what -- what can I do? You can pray. * Imagine how the world would feel about 828ers if one of them just stone-cold assassinated her boyfriend. They'd lose every ounce of sympathy. Then we release all the incriminating intel we've gathered. It would have a much bigger impact. You can plant something, some piece of evidence that points to Michaela or her brother or both? Yeah. I can. Good. Let's do this. Simon? You good with that? Yes. Just make sure you keep this clean and keep us out of it. Not a problem. You two can roll. He got them. He got both of them. Going in. They've got a hostage and at least two guns. Could be a powder keg. (tense music) Don't say a word. (Grunts) This man has destroyed my life. It's gonna feel so good to put a bullet in his head. If anyone does this, it's me. Give me the gun. (tense music) Any last words? I told Mick she couldn't trust you. Guess you never know who you can trust. What are you doing? My job, dirtbag. Get over there. Unh-unh! Don't even think about it. Put the gun down, slowly. Now! Hands up. Hands up! You are gonna regret this. -Drop it! -Get off me, man. Get off me! (Handcuffs click) (Police radio chatter) You okay? (sighs) Yeah. All things work together for good. It's gonna be okay. (Sirens wailing, indistinct conversations) (Sighs) -Tamara, listen. -Don't. Just don't. This whole time, you were using me to get to Billy? No. No, I swear it's not like that. Like hell it's not. I hope it was worth it. If I was good at compliments, I'd probably say you're one of the best cops I've ever worked with. But I'm not, so, instead, I left something on your desk back at the precinct. (Camera shutter clicks, sirens wail) JARED: You okay? Thanks to you. You saved me. You, uh, seem to be doing a lot of that lately. I don't know how you kept your cool through all that. Well, I may not be hearing voices in my head, but I've learned a thing or two in my years on the job. Glad it still counts for something. It counts for a lot. OFFICER: Hey, folks, I'm gonna need you to stay back. Active crime scene. Stay back. (RT chatter) (door opens) Both of those ladies are prizefighters. Mom is recovering, and she'll be able to have visitors in just a bit. - Thank God. - Thank you. What about our baby sister? Yeah, can we see her? She's in the NICU. She'll be in an incubator for a bit, like any 29-weeker, but you should know she's doing fine. I-I don't know how to thank you. If you didn't get here, I -- It was actually something of a miracle that I did. I was kayaking earlier today in the Harlem River. Lost my balance, and I flipped over. Wait. Harlem River? Yeah, and a total stranger happened to be standing under the High Bridge at that exact moment. He jumped in, saved my life, and brought me here for good measure. This man who saved you, do you know where he is now? I asked him to wait in the lobby, offered him some money. He may still be there. - Thank you. - You're very welcome. Come here. Are they out of surgery? You did it. You completed a Calling. And the man you saved was the one person that could save both of them. They're gonna be okay. Now, if you needed any more proof that the Callings are good, this is it. You sure about that? What put your wife and baby in danger in the first place? Grace's water broke. Why? Why did it break? We don't know exactly. I do. I saw her fall near the river. Ask her. The only reason she was on those rocks was because the Calling told you to go there. Why would the Callings do that? Set up dangers just to trick us into thinking we're saving the world? It's what the Callings have been doing all along -- manipulating us, teaching us to trust so we will eventually blindly obey, not caring whether we're doing good or evil. Evil? We're helping people! "Signs and wonders." Why do you keep saying that? Matthew 24:24. My dad used to quote it. "False prophets will arise from the dead "to perform signs and wonders." We're not false prophets. You keep assuming we're on the side of good, Ben, but I know now we are returned from the dead to be agents of the apocalypse. You're deluded. "I see," said the blind man. (sombre music) MAN: Yeah, it's in here somewhere. What's going on? Just trying to find my ID. That's what we're worried about. (tense music) (Hissing, indistinct whispering) (Monitor beeping) Hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey. She's fine. She's perfect. # Oh, there's nothing I can't do # # As long as I've got you by my side # # Oh, there's nothing I can't do # # As long as I've got you by my side # # Every morning to face the day # # I need your love, I need your love # # Every moment to chase the day # # I need your love, I need your love # # Oh, there's nothing I can't do # # As long as I've got you by my side # (gentle music) (Door opens) - Hey. - Hey. I brought you takeout. Uh, thanks, but you know I can cook, right? Yeah, I've had your cooking. That's why I brought you takeout. (Chuckles) Tough crowd. (Chuckles) I also brought you this, which you can share with me. It's been a minute, right? Yeah. I'm okay, though. Here's to Eden, the newest member of the Stone family. She is small, but she is mighty. Mm. What is it? I had to make a decision in the hospital. Grace or the baby. Ben, no one should ever have to make that decision. Well, I did. And I knew that Grace wanted to protect the baby at all costs, and I chose the opposite. I don't know how I would have lived with that. You don't have to. They are both fine. You can go on being the best father that I have ever, ever seen. The Calling, it came through. It saved them both. I wish Adrian saw it that way. What do you mean? He's convinced the Callings are manipulating us, all for some dark purpose. He thinks we're agents of the apocalypse. What? You believe him? Not after today. I'm with you. All good things. All good things. - Kiddos are in bed? - Yeah, safe and sound. (Hissing, indistinct whispering) Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Able 2020
