- TOM: In '98, a handful of us were made aware of a possible assassin. We called him Goliath. - NIAMH: Boss? We're still on the island. We've found something. - How many bodies altogether? - Three. But none of them are your mum. Tom. - Tori. They found him. Dad. - NIAMH: The Keenan case has been orchestrated by someone who wants us to find Goliath. Whoever it is, they're still out there, sir. We think they hold the key to unlocking the truth about the past. The harbourmaster, he says he was asked about Goliath four months ago. Someone phoned him, said their name was Frank MacFeale. - How did you know it was me pretending to be MacFeale? - I know you've been meeting with the person who's trying to unmask Goliath. Who is it? I brought you here. Now tell me. - No. Jackie blocked this investigation 22 years ago. Now he's doing it again. Why would you, of all people, cover for him? Or is it you? Are you Goliath? (GUNSHOT) (CAR DOOR CLOSES) (DOOR SQUEAKS) (UNEASY MUSIC) (GRUNTS SOFTLY) (GRUNTS) (GRUNTS) - NIAMH SHOUTS: Mr Corry? Mr Corry? Your sister called. She's worried about you. (BIRDSONG) Mr Corry? FADES: Mr Corry... He might have fallen or something. He might be in trouble. Mr Corry. FAINTLY: Mr Corry? (TENSE MUSIC) (FOOTSTEPS APPROACH) Anything? Someone else has been here. He can't go anywhere on his own. - Check with the hospitals, make sure he hasn't been brought in. If not, this is a missing person's investigation. We need to move out of here. Treat this as a crime scene. (POLICE RADIO CHATTER) - Sir? This is Linda Corry, sir, Mr Corry's sister. - Who are they? What's happened to Adam? - This is a missing person's investigation. - Oh God. (CRIES) - There are people looking for him. - No, but he's not a well man. - Does Adam get many visitors? - No. - And how often do you visit? - Once a week. I do his messages for him, his prescription, make sure he has everything he needs. - You haven't seen anyone else coming or going in all that time? Has Adam spoken about anyone? Someone that might have visited him? - No, no. I want to see inside the house. - Not yet. Not yet. - Get your hands off me. - I'm sorry, you can't go in there; it's a crime scene. - I will be making a complaint. (OMINOUS MUSIC) (LOW CHATTER) - NIAMH: Sir? Sir. - Adam's notebook. I handled that. Remember, when we were in the other room with him? - I'll make sure to pass that on. He was saying that Adam made notes inside about who visited ` times, dates, what was talked about. But that there are some pages missing. The most recent ones, especially. (TENSE MUSIC) - Tom! You're wanted. Just had an update from the CSIs at Adam Corry's. A fingerprint they lifted from one of the teacups does not belong to his sister, nor does it belong to anyone else on the database. They're working on the DNA. - What's going on? - She was brought in an hour ago. She'd been dumped out the back of a van outside the hospital. Looks like the woman in Keenan's car. But listen. - WOMAN: I was coming out of the hospital. (BREATHES DEEPLY) They just came up behind me. Put me in a van. Showed me to someone on their phone. - OFFICER: When you say someone...? - A man. I just heard his voice. He said,... 'That's not her.' - Keenan's looking for the woman involved in his kidnap. Her hair is the same as the woman in his car, the woman outside the sandwich shop. - This one's over from London. She wasn't even here when Keenan was kidnapped. Can we bring him in? - No. Well, you heard yourself, he wasn't there. The best we can do is put him under surveillance. - He's going over where he went on the day he was kidnapped. He must think someone at the hospital was involved. - You think he's on to something? - Yes. We need to redouble our efforts in the search for the woman in his car. I believe she's the Goliath hunter. (SIREN WAILS) I was here on the 16th, talking to one of your ophthalmologists about a patient. I was just wondering, we're looking for a woman, likely to be in her 30s, 40s, average height. This is all we have, I'm afraid. Does she look familiar? - No. No, I'm sorry. We see so many people. - Oh well. No bother. Thanks, anyway. (COMPUTER BEEPS) - Sir? Excuse me, sir. Sorry, you said the 16th? - Uh-huh. - Sorry, I should have looked. Does this have something to do with questions you wanted to ask about a patient, Mr PJ Keenan? - That's right. - Only you're in the wrong place to speak to Ms Matthews. - Uh, sorry? - Tori Matthews. She's a surgeon. There's a note attached to the diary. She wanted to be alerted when the police followed up on Mr Keenan's appointment. - Thanks. (BREATHES DEEPLY) (PENSIVE MUSIC) (CELL PHONE RINGS) Hello? - TWOMEY: Tom, we've got the DNA back from the teacup at Corry's house. It matches the DNA found in Keenan's car. - Uh-huh. - So, it's confirmed. The woman involved in Keenan's kidnapping was in Corry's house. - WOMAN: Sir. - I've got to go. (LINE RINGS) - VOICEMAIL: Hi, this is Tori Matthews. Please leave a message. - (BEEP!) I was` ...taking it` ...slow. Stealth as. Pretty chill. Hung a right. Left. Boom. (SIREN WHOOPS) (BRAKES WHINE SOFTLY) SOFTLY: Oh no, no, no, no, no. (BREATHALYSER BEEPS) OK. That is a fail. (SIGHS SOFTLY) (EXHALES SHARPLY) (INDISTINCT RADIO TRANSMISSION) (SCOFFS SOFTLY) RT: We're just gonna go 4Q. (SIGHS SOFTLY) - VOICEMAIL: Hi, this is Tori Matthews. Please leave a message. - (BEEP!) (KEYS JINGLE, CLICK!) - Sorry for the short notice, but, er... I'm pleased... you agreed to dinner. - Are you? - Aye. So, er, were you married before? - Mm! There's the police officer I was expecting. - Sorry. Old habits. - No, never married. Too young. - Ah, 'course. - No, I... I moved about a lot. - How come? - Well, I finished my schooling here... University in England. And after my training, I just wanted some excitement. - Where did that take you to? - Well, I helped set up a trauma stabilisation unit in Syria. - Wow. If I think about Izzy doing that, I'd be standing right behind her with a Kalashnikov and a packet of plasters. - Still your little girl. - Always. Well, I raised her, you know. Did all the jigsaw puzzles, the stories, taxi rides to the nightclubs, from the nightclubs. You thought Syria was tough. - (LAUGHS) No. You know, I come from a single-parent family myself. How do you know him? - I don't know what you're talking about. - You asked to be alerted when the police came looking for Pat Keenan's doctor. - No, I... - You had access to Keenan's medical records. You knew when he'd be at the hospital. You followed him from there. Disguised yourself. A black wig. - Tom... - They found a woman's DNA in Pat Keenan's car. They found the same DNA on a cup at Adam Corry's house. If we asked you for a sample, would you be confident it wasn't a match? - You're not making any sense. - You manoeuvred yourself to teach on my daughter's course. You knew that my district was small enough that I'd be the SIO. You wanted the inside track on the investigation. - Let me go. - You abused my trust, and you used my daughter to do it! - I would never harm Izzy! - Tori Matthews, I am arresting you on suspicion of kidnapping Pat Keenan and the abduction of Adam Corry. - Stop! - You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence... - Stop! ..if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court. - I'm Simon Quinlan's daughter! SHAKILY: I'm Simon Quinlan's daughter. - But he was a priest. - Aye. He kept me and my mum secret. We lived out in the Mournes. Do you know where Adam is? He was helping me find my dad's killer. I met him when he came to ask my mum some questions. He couldn't get any sense out of her, but he had time to show me what he found. - Jesus. - Tom, I'm just doing what you're doing. I'm trying to find the man who killed a member of my family. He'd heard the name Goliath. - From where? - Some peeler in the Dunfolan Arms, full of drink. - Did he say who? - No. I mean, Adam didn't know what to do with the information. I mean, if he took it to the police, they'd only brush it under the carpet again, wouldn't they? So I suggested something he didn't like. - Kidnapping Keenan? - It was a while before I landed on Keenan as an ideal candidate. Someone who would link in to the Goliath story, who would force you to reopen the case, go looking for the bodies. Someone who was an easy target. - Easy how? - His promiscuity. Plus, he's not exactly a good man. Adam said I was playing with fire. - I'd agree with him. - But it worked, didn't it? - So, you and Corry, the families of former enemies, you what, you just become friends? - The families of victims, aye. And that includes you. - We are not the same. - Your wife was taken from you, from your daughter. Someone deprived you and Izzy of a normal family life, just like they did me. And the least you could do` - I've tried everything. (OMINOUS MUSIC) - Have you ever been closer than you are now? Adam and I were on to something, and you know it. But you're going about it in the wrong way. I also know what Keenan's people will do to you in prison when they find out. I've seen the type ` prison officers paid off, a stabbing in the shower. An overdose that makes it look like suicide. It happens in the way you imagine it would. - You know, I will not be scared into submission. - And I will not lose a good person to a stupid bloody move. I'm asking you to think about it. Your whole life up in smoke. Maybe cut short entirely. And why? So you can manipulate a police investigation which may or may not give you the result you want? - But he was my daddy. - Leave it alone. It's my final offer. (TENSE MUSIC) - (SNIFFS) (SNIFFS) (BIRDSONG) TORI READS: 'I took our wee girl for a cycle out along Head Road. 'We stopped by the long dry-stone wall. 'I told her the wall stretches over 15 mountains. 'She laughed and told me I'd been at the Communion wine. 'VOICE BREAKS: I enjoy this stolen company more and more, now that she is older. A young woman. 'She is her mother's daughter and for that I am eternally grateful.' - You remember that? I worried about him on a bike. His limbs were like spaghetti. Read another one, please. - I'm sorry, Mummy. - What for? - SOFTLY: I can't. SHAKILY: I'm not able to. We will never have justice. - WHISPERS: But... I thought you said` - I know what I said. But things have changed. HOARSELY: And I can't continue. - What things? Somebody murdered your father. They had no right. We are commencing our initial sweep of sectors one and three... (BOAT ENGINES RUMBLE) (TENSE MUSIC) Object in the water, about 50m to port. (RADIO BEEPS) (RADIO BEEPS) Uniform from Charlie 590. One male, approximately 70 years old. White beard. No signs of life. Visible wound to the head, potentially gunshot. Looks like he's been washed ashore. We'll set up a cordon here and hold the scene. - RT: 590 understood. Detectives, CSIs and body recovery on the way now... (INDISTINCT CHATTER) - TWOMEY: Tom. - NIAMH: There has to be a witness. He couldn't have got out here alone. (CAMERA SHUTTER BEEPS, CLICKS) The last words he spoke to us were about finding his brother's killer. - Looks like he found him. - You think this is Goliath? - Gunshot to the head. What more do we need? The nature of this manhunt changes. Notify the Intelligence Hubs, we're now looking for a murderer. - Sir. - We thought we had it bad with Keenan's bunch. We're in the middle of this now, about to get it from all sides. And I've no doubt that this is directly related to the two of you using Corry for your investigations. So much for keeping the peace. Hope you're happy (!) - We look for witnesses. Keep up the hunt for the woman that matches that DNA. Let's check out any CCTV that we find in the area. Niamh, you take charge at Adam's house. Birdy, make sure the CSIs know that the nature of the investigation has changed. - Sir. - Let's box up the work he was doing on finding his brother's killer. Bring it to the station. Let's see what he knew. - You think he has something that identifies Goliath? (UNEASY MUSIC) NIAMH: Looks like Linda Corry's brought all the Protestants, sir. - You can smell the doilies and the abstinence from here. (SIGHS HEAVILY) - I would say that you, Detective Chief Superintendent Twomey, seem to have little interest in finding the person who killed my brother. - Well, with respect, I think the fact that` What? - And the fact that you displaced a perfectly good Protestant officer to become head of this district smacks of appeasement to your own community. (DOOR OPENS) - I think he might have preferred the petrol bomb(!) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) - TOM: Shit. I didn't know you were gonna be here. (LOCKER CLANGS) - I'm having to be everywhere. (DOOR OPENS) Let's get on with it. (DOOR CLOSES) - Gunshot wound to the head was made from a distance of about 10 yards, with a 9mm. The round entered above his left eye, went through his brain, and came out the back of his head on the right-hand side. That sort of angle. - Don't do that. Please. - The shooter was of an approximately similar height. The lungs are dry, which confirms that he was dead before he went into the lough. - Was he dumped in deep water, or did he wash out? - We found ligature marks around the ankles, which indicates a weighted rope. So, whoever it was tried to sink him in deep water, but then the weight dislocated the ankle, and the rope slipped loose. Now it's just a matter of forensic evidence. In a perfect world, we'd find the boat, and there'd be blood on that, for sure. - Anything turned up at the crime scene? - Nothing further. - We're gonna do everything we can to get Adam Corry's killer. We're gonna catch them. We're gonna parade them through the streets like a fucking pariah. No one gets away with this. (TENSE MUSIC) (GATE CREAKS) (HANDBRAKE GRAUNCHES, SEATBELT CLICKS) - BIRDY: Aye, just drop them over there. (TENSE MUSIC CONTINUES) - NIAMH: It was Adam Corry who used Frank MacFeale as an alias. We flagged the name shortly before Adam Corry went missing. It has to be an active officer who connected it with Corry. The timing's too coincidental otherwise. - Combined with the nature of the execution, it is further proof, if proof were needed, that we are looking for Goliath himself. - The name went to districts, Int Hubs and the Garda. By now maybe 500 officers will have the Frank MacFeale name. - One of whom made the connection. You as good as killed Adam Corry. You didn't think. You just put it out there. - But, sir, we ran checks on the name. - No. You're a fucking idiot. I mean, for goodness' sake. Officers all over the country will have been notified about the name Frank MacFeale, but they won't know we're looking for Goliath. We've kept that quiet. Shite. That means Goliath... could be someone from this district. Jesus, do I have to do all the police work around here? Birdy! Make a list of all the officers from this district who could fit the Goliath profile, those who are still serving who were in uniform in '98. - Sir... - At least then we can see if they're connected to the investigation. Put a request in to HR for serving officers' records with permissions. Get what you can. - Sir. - Well, get on it! 'You've taught me that grief knows no division. 'Sadly, time is against our friendship, which is why I've sent you this. 'Jackie Twomey's back, the man who stopped me last time. This has to be more than coincidence. 'There's going to be another cover-up. I can feel the noose tightening. 'If they come for me, I want you to have my collection of leads. 'The necklace was given to my brother by his lover. I've never been able to find out who she was. 'If you can get someone to look at it, perhaps there's DNA. 'Why would Jackie Twomey need to cover this up? 'I can see only one reason ` he knows who Goliath is.' - Ah, HR have said they'll send the files of the relevant people over as soon as possible. Er, but just so you know, there are only, um, three individuals currently serving in this district that are still active since 1998. Dinger. Um, you, sir... and y-you, sir. Others that would have been eligible have either moved out of the district or have seconded elsewhere, and they wouldn't have any knowledge of our current investigations. - Well, it's not me. - Sir? - If the idea is our potential Goliath fits this profile and he's one of three,... He says it's a collection of all the leads he has to Goliath. - I can't get away now, but I'll come and see you tonight. - This man was meticulous. - He could have done with going electronic. - (SCOFFS) - (KNOCKS) HR files have arrived, sir. - Have you looked at them already? - Aye. - Has the DCS seen them? - No. (SIGHS) Both you and Dinger are pretty routine-looking, you'll be pleased to know. Oh, nearly your birthday, I see, sir. - Focus, Birdy. - Um, (SIGHS) the DCS's file, well... - What? - When I compare your records from 1998, this is you. This is Dinger, and this is DCS Twomey. - Huh. It's been redacted. - Why would it have been redacted? - I don't know. - Who would have done that? - Special Branch? Intelligence? Some... monkey further up the tree. - Can we talk to the Intelligence Services? - We can try. Leave it with me. (FOREBODING MUSIC) (BLINDS RATTLE AGAINST DOOR) - Sir! Details of an allegation that a police officer unofficially ran Joe Harkin as an IRA source. He has a number here but doesn't seem to know what it is. - 2421. - Later on, he says that the same officer is suspected of passing highly sensitive information using insecure means. - 2421? 2421. 2421... (TENSE MUSIC) - You all right, sir? (DRAWER CLANGS) - We each had a post office box in town. It was useful if we had to store things while in the field. - Like what? - Evidence, information, things you might wanna keep safe if you're on the move. 2421 was Jackie's box. Go with DS McGovern. Dig up what you can, which places DCS Twomey` everywhere he's been for the last 24 hours. - A-Are you sure, sir? - Well, you heard him. He was quick to exonerate himself from all of this. Now, look. - We're talking about the DCS, sir. - Aye. - SOFTLY: Shite. - What's the problem? - Well, I-I think that should be obvious. - We have suspected from the outset of this investigation that there might be an insider among us, someone prepared to use their position to commit murder. Now, at some point, we're going to have to face up to who that person might be. Do it! - Come in. - Have you touched any of it? - The documents, aye. - And the jewellery? - No. - Don't. I'll take it away as evidence, all of it. - I was still a teenager when my dad went missing. 19, just. But young. Naive, like. Every day since then has just chipped away at that. All I know is I won't just be another victim. I need to find the man who killed my father, the man who was meant to be upholding the law and protecting people, the man who killed your wife. - Have you read Adam's journal? - I have, aye. - So, you have an idea who Goliath is? I've suspected him for a while. He is one of us. Someone I've known for... years. A friend. Jackie Twomey. - Yes. Adam mentions Jackie in the documents. Thinks he concealed Goliath's identity. - That's right. Jackie headed the investigation into the disappearances in 1998. He was ultimately responsible for shutting the case down. The mistake I made was showing him your Goliath postcard this time round. Before I knew it, he'd come down from Belfast, installed himself as the SIO at Dunfolan, all so he could suppress a full police investigation, again. - That's what Adam said. - I don't think they'll let it come out. It would destroy the Service. It could... It could go far beyond that, too. - You're a police officer. This is your job. - He's my boss. I won't be able to gather evidence against him effectively, not without him being across all of it. - You have to. - I can't, not... not on my own. - Well, then, I'll help you. Look, I'm an outsider. I can move freer than you. - I don't want to endanger you. - You have to let me try. I mean, Christ, if it's him, we can't let him get away with it. Tom, justice at all costs. Leave peace to the politicians, and let's give them evidence they can't ignore. (UNEASY MUSIC) - NIAMH: Adam Corry went missing from his home some time on the 21st. Where were you that day? - I was here. We had an inspection. - And in the evening? - I made a lovely wee lasagne, and then I watched a wildlife programme, which was very distressing, and was in bed by 10 o'clock. - Can anyone verify that? - Probably my next-door neighbour. She's always complaining about the thinness of the walls. Probably heard me crying about the wee gazelle. - (CHUCKLES SOFTLY) Would you say you're in a good position to manipulate evidence? - No, not at all. My findings are double ` in fact ` triple-checked. - Could the DNA at Adam Corry's house be Siobhan Harkin? - No. We have her on the system. - (SIGHS DEEPLY) So, we still have no idea who the woman was. - Apart from the fact she's at the centre of your investigations. (CELL PHONE CHIMES) - We're going after Jackie. - Jackie's a good fit. You know, there's police officers, and there's politicians in the police. I never really trusted the latter. - Birdy. - Sir. - Have you seen DCI Brannick? I'm after searching high and low. - No, sir. - Any idea where he's at? - No, sir. - Walk with me. What's the current focus of the investigation? - Sir? - Are you deaf? - No, sir. - Then answer the question. - Er... - 'Er'? - I... - Are we communicating in vowels, Birdy? I asked you a simple question. Now, answer me, or I'll have you out on your hole. - A police officer in this district, unofficially, a-and allegedly... ran...
