- It's been a month. Dad's never been gone this long. - I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this. - Clark's coming back, like he always does. - This was an important day for me and I wanted to share it with you. - I have things I want to tell you, but I can't. - Then you should take this. - Are you breaking up with me? - Yeah. - Now, at last. The ascension is nearly upon us, my friends. Go, merge with your other self. - Where's Clark? - He was too late. - Why are you here? (dramatic music) # # - For him. # # - What do you mean you're here for me? - So we could meet. - Jon. No! - Looks like the weak one got the powers here. - Jon! - Mom! # # (high pitched ringing) (heartbeat thumping) - Jon. Jonathan. Jonathan. - You can't stop what's coming. - Clark. - (coughs) # # (dramatic music) # # www.able.co.nz Able 2022 - Well, that's a lot to process. Anderson is dead, our family was a disaster, to put it mildly, and everything Ally was preaching was true. - I tried to stop her. I really did. I just wasn't strong enough. - So if Ally Allston merged with her bizarro self, does that mean she's some sort of god now? - I don't know what she is. All I know is that pendant gave her power, a lot of power, and the Jon that came here wants to do the same thing with you. - Yeah, I could tell. - Sweetheart, we are not going to let that happen. - Yeah, but he can do everything Dad can do, right? - Yes, but he's on our Earth. The yellow sun should weaken him the same way the red sun weakened me. - He's still pretty strong though. He had no problem kicking my ass. - What are we supposed to do? Hide out--hide out at your fortress? - Have you been having visions? - No. I mean, I've had this, like, weird brain freeze feeling when I was walking Candice home earlier tonight. But, what? Why? Is that like the visions you were getting from the other Superman? - It sounds like the beginning of them. - Great. - Does that mean he'll get a lot more of them? - Probably, and when you do, he's gonna be able to see where we are. - Not if we can stop them from happening in the first place. I'll go see if John Henry is still up. - Jonathan, I know things have been rough between us, but none of that matters. You're my son and I love you. And I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. - You sure now's a good time to be texting Sarah? - I know she's up. - That's not what I'm talking about. - Nothing's happening with Jon right now, Mom. I have to fix this with her. She dumped me 'cause she thinks I didn't see her as a priority, but that's just not true. - You have had a lot on your plate lately. Maybe she's noticed how distracted you've been. - That doesn't mean she's not important to me. You know, and that's what I've been trying to tell her, but she's not replying to my texts. - Well, she probably needs some time to think, sweetie, and so do you. - About what? - You know, sometimes when I'm working through a really big problem, I write it all down in a letter. - You're serious? A letter? - Yeah. It helps me to take a breath and process my emotions. And then when everything is laid out in front of me, I can hone in on what it is exactly that I'm trying to communicate. I think you should try that instead of texting. (engine rumbling) Clark. - It's gonna take a while to figure something like this out. - Ballpark? - No idea. I mean, disrupting inter-- what does your mother call it? - Inter-dimensional kinesthesis. - Yeah, that? That's all new. I'm not sure I have any tech that'll even work. - Did your mother say anything else that could be helpful? - This is all new to her too. - (screaming) - Jon? Jon! - (grunting) - Jon, what'd you see? - M--Main Street. (groaning) - I'll figure something out, okay? (unsettling music) # # - Clark, hey! Oh. How was the assignment? - What? Oh, it was... (chuckles) It was fine. - You were gone for a month, away from your family. I hope that it was better than fine. - Uh... Um... - Are you okay? - Lana, I'm so sorry. I really, really have to go. - Okay. - It's just things have been crazy lately and I've got to fix this thing at the farm. - No, totally. We'll catch up another time. - Lana... - No, it's fine. # # - Any luck? - Yeah. He was there, just like Jonathan said. But before I could get to him, Lana ran into me. She said I've been gone a month? - It's been 33 days. How long was it on the other world? - (sighs) A day? Maybe? - So what, time moves differently over there? - Either that or in the portals I went through which I really wish I'd known before I ran into her. - Why? What happened? - She said you told her I was on some assignment. - That was the best I could come up with. - It's not your fault. I just could tell she was hurt. - She probably wanted to talk about winning the election. - She won? - She moves into her new office tomorrow. Maybe I should just go over there later and smooth things over for you. - Anything else I should know about? Why didn't you just tell me those drugs belonged to Candice? - Dad, I thought you said that everything was cool between us. - It is, Jonathan, but I still want to understand what you were thinking. - Okay, well, clearly I didn't want Candice to get in trouble. - Well, maybe she should have. She was selling drugs. - See? That's--that is exactly why I didn't say anything. Because you ask me a question and then you don't even listen to what I have to say. - No, don't make this about me. I'm not the one who was lying. - (chuckles) Are you serious? You lied to me for 14 years about who you actually are. - No, Jonathan, that is not the same thing. - Yeah, it's worse. Because I lied to protect someone else and he lied to protect his own secret. - That secret keeps this family safe. It allows you to have a normal life. One that isn't in the shadow of me being Superman. - Okay, well, if that's what the secret's doing, it's doing a pretty crap job. - Jonathan, I'm serious. On the other world, our family lived without that secret. - I know, okay? You said that already and honestly, it doesn't seem that bad because at least there I have powers. Maybe then you'd actually listen to me. - Jon. - You know what? I'll let you know if I have any more visions or whatever. (electrical buzzing) - So... how powerful is Ally Allston now? - Uh, Clark wasn't sure exactly. - But stronger than Superman, the most powerful person in the world. - Ally Allston isn't the problem. - Not yet, but if Jonathan merges with his bizzaro self, he'll be as strong as she is. - It's not gonna happen. - And he has the pendant, which means he can create a whole army of people that are stronger than Superman. - Okay, look. You cannot spiral out at the worst case scenario. - You mean the one where your entire planet gets destroyed and you lose everyone you care about? - Nat, that's not gonna happen. - How can you say that? - Because I won't let it. There is nothing I won't do to keep you safe. You hear me? Nothing. Good. 'Cause I really need your help if I'm gonna get this thing finished in time. - I know that look. - Jordan was texting me nonstop last night, and as soon as I message back, nothing but radio silence, so. - Yeah, well, I ran into his dad in town last night and he was clearly wishing I hadn't. - Really? He always seems so excited to see you. - Yeah, I could literally feel him trying to get rid of me. I mean, he didn't even mention the election. - I don't get it. He's your biggest supporter. - Yeah. I don't know. You know, there's always been this other side of him that's a little...I don't know, not present. - Yeah. Jordan used to get like that too. - Honey, I'm sorry. I know how tough it is after a breakup. - You know what? It's all good. My mom, the mayor, is moving into new offices today and I packed some boxes to go inside of your car. - You are the best daughter ever, but I don't think we should put those boxes in my car. - Why not? - Well, because I would, um, rather... You drive them over in yours. - Please tell me you're not joking. - Your dad and I both agreed you've earned this. - Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! - (laughs) Now, honey, it's only for driving in Smallville. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - And I want to know where you are at all times. - Okay. - Hey, Sarah. - Huh? - I'll meet you over at the office. - Okay. - Okay. (chuckles) - Thank you. - (laughs) - Have you been having more of those visions? - No, it was just-- it was just Dad going all ape over the X-K again. - (sighs) - Yeah. What's that about? - It's a letter I wrote to Sarah. - You wrote her a letter? What, is she taking a prairie wagon to the 1880s or... - Well, Mom took my phone, so. - Let me see. - Uh... - Bro. Let's see here. Um... (in posh voice) "To Sarah, my dearest flower petal--" - Okay, all right. - Let me see. No, let me see. Wow. Are you really gonna give this to Sarah? - Yeah. (upbeat rock music) - This is so cool. (loud whoosh) - Oh. Hey. I didn't see you whenever I was backing up. - That's 'cause I just landed. - Okay, what's with the gloves and the jacket? I mean, Wellnitz is gonna have some serious opinions about this. - Do you really think I care what some small-town idiot thinks? - Aren't you going to say anything about the car? - It's not bad, but I've pretty much been all in on Lambo's recently, so. - Okay. Well, if you're gonna be like that then... I'll just see you later. - # Young lady, I'll scare 'em # # Whoo # # # (door closes) - Oh, honey, I'm so glad you came back. I--I just found this. (dramatic music) Jonathan. What are you doing here? # # - Hey, Sarah, is your mom around? - Uh, no, but she'll be here soon. - Do you mind if I wait here? - No, yeah, go ahead. - I was thinking about going to grab some coffees. Do you want one? - I'm okay. Thank you. I heard about you and Jordan. - Yeah, I mean, it's kind of complicated. - I know he's been unpredictable lately, and I'm sorry about that. - No, it's not your fault. He's okay, though, right? I mean, there's not something else going on that I don't know about? - We've just been dealing with some family stuff lately. - Seems like every family in Smallville is going through something so. - That's probably true. And I just wanted to say how impressed I am with how well you've been handling everything. You're way more mature than I was at that age. - Thanks, but that really doesn't seem possible. - You have no idea. When I was 15, every guy I dated was just me trying to piss off my dad and I was really good at pissing off my dad. - Seriously? - Yeah. There was this one guy, Dave. He was spectacularly awful. He was in this Primus cover band. - What's Primus? - A band no other band should ever cover. - (laughs) - I still haven't told Clark about him. Or any other guy I dated in high school actually. - Wow, that kind of sounds crazy coming from you. - Anyway, the older you get, the more you realize everyone is dealing with something. - Yeah. Speaking of, what's going on with Jonathan? - What do you mean? - Well, when I saw him earlier, it looked like he was going to a rave out in "The Matrix." - Where did you see him? - Um... Walking on my street as I pulled out. It looked like he was going to Candice's. - Tell your mom I dropped by. I have to go. - Okay. - Clark. - What is it? - I think the other Jonathan has Lana. - Whoa, how do you know that? - Because Sarah said she saw an oddly dressed Jonathan on her street. - Why were you talking to Sarah? - Why would he want to take Mrs. Cushing? - Because on his Earth, he and Lana work together for Ally. - So wait, he thinks that Sarah's mom's gonna help him merge? - You said that you saw him last night. Maybe he was trying to get your attention. - Wait, you saw him and you just let him go. - There wasn't anything I could do. - You're--what do you mean? You're Superman. You could've flown over there and stopped him. - Not with Lana there. - Right, right, right, right. 'Cause you gotta keep your precious secret so we can live "a normal life." - You're serious? Why didn't you say anything to Sarah's mom? - Boys, we are not talking about this right now! - It's literally the entire reason she's in danger. - Okay, Jonathan, I don't have time to stand here and defend the decisions I've made. - Right 'cause you never think you're wrong. - No, it's because my best friend is in danger. - Okay, well, maybe if you didn't care so much about keeping your secret-- - Jonathan, upstairs right now. Clark, go find her. - Jordan. - Why were you talking to Sarah? - Here goes nothing. (device powering up) - It's working. I mean, if Jon curls up into the foetal position. - We need more energy. A lot more. - Where are we gonna get that? - Same place we get the stuff that powers my suit. - (speaking backwards) - Hey, have you seen my mom? - I thought she was with you. - Uh, no, we drove here separately, but that was, like, an hour ago. - Well, she hasn't answered any of my calls and we really need to schedule a staff meeting. - Um, maybe she's just deciding on what to bring to the office? So... I'm gonna go home and check on her. - Okay. - You were trying to smooth things over. What does that even mean? - It means I was trying to give her some context about what's going on with you. - I was doing that, but then you took my phone away. - Honey, I know that's what you think you were doing, but trust me, it's better this way. - Oh, so you're allowed to talk to her and I'm not. - That's not what I said. - That's what you meant. - Can we please not do this right now? We have way bigger problems on our hands. - Well, Mom, this is pretty big to me. - I know, sweetheart, and I promise you, I am on your team. - Then you shouldn't have talked to her without at least asking me first. - You're right. I'm sorry. But there is a dangerous version of your brother to worry about right now, so can we please just cut each other some slack? What is it? - Someone's here. - I think something might've happened to my mom. - She never showed up at the office. So I went back to the house to look for her and she wasn't there. I mean, Jon-- Jon was in the neighbourhood. Maybe he knew where she went. - I talked to him when he got home. He said he went straight to Candice's. - It doesn't make any sense. Her car is still there and when I went home, there was a busted cabinet and glass all over the floor. - Okay, let's not jump to conclusions. I am sure everything is fine. - Mom. - Let me make some phone calls. I promise you, we will find out what happened. But the best thing for you to do right now is go back to her office and I will reach out the moment I hear of anything, okay? - (sighs) Okay. Thank you. - Sarah, wait. Look, I'm sorry for blowing up your phone. - Jordan, can we--can we just not do this right now? - Wait, I know it's a bad time, but this is important. I need to tell you how I really feel. - Jordan, my mom is missing. - Look, look, instead of stumbling over my words in a million texts... - (groans) - I wrote it all down. Everything I've been trying to say to you but couldn't. It's all in here. - Jordan, I don't want your letter. (dramatic music) # # - I'm sorry, sweetie. - Yeah, great idea. - It's kind of beautiful. - No, no, no. Don't be fooled. Anyone who tries to go in through without protection gets torn to shreds. - So what, it's like some dimensional rift that leads to the other Earth? - There's more to it than that. Clark mentioned the middle ground, like a negative zone, completely devoid of time and space. - Sounds just like what I was stuck in before my AI located your suit. - Come on. Let's get what we came for. Oh, no. (chuckles) I'm afraid that's-- that's not gonna do much. No, this stuff is really wedged in there. - So what, you created something to get it out with? - Yeah. (both chuckle) (drilling) - Jonathan, what are we doing here? - Besides waiting until it's time? You know the answer to that. - That X-K you're taking is getting to your head. You're not making any sense. - You don't know what you're talking about. - I know that you've been struggling. Got kicked out of school. - That Jonathan is not me. - And that your parents are worried about you. - You don't know my parents. Those people... They just look like them. Sort of how you look like the Lana from my world. - Jonathan, you're scaring me. Please just--just untie me and then we can get you the help you need. - That's not going to happen. - Please help me! Help! - If you want Superman to come, this will be a lot easier. Don't worry, he'll be here soon. - I couldn't find her anywhere. - So he did take her. - He was right there on Main Street. I could've stopped him and instead I-- I chose to protect my secret. - Clark, you didn't know this would happen. - That doesn't matter. - Yeah? Well, Sarah stopped by earlier looking for her mom and she was so worried, and all I could do was just lie to her face. It felt so gross. What are we doing, Clark? This secret is destroying everything we care about. - Yeah, but it also gave us everything we care about. My dad said I had to keep this secret safe, that I could never just be Clark Kent if the truth got out. I'd never be able to have the family I'd always wanted. I saw that other family and they were a mess. The fame, the ego, the-- - We're not them. - I know but what if this is the thing that makes us different? - It's not. The difference is that we have two very exceptional young men being raised by two exceptional parents. - What are you saying, Lois? - Maybe we need to trust our family to know the right thing to do with the truth. - (screaming) - Hurry. It--it's happening again. - (groaning) - Jon? Jon? He's got-- he's got Mrs. Cushing. She's tied up. - What else did you see? - Hooks covered in blood. They're in, like, an industrial freezer. Like a big--big freezer. - That sounds like the old slaughterhouse on Kempsville Road. - And what if he's just trying to get me away from Jon? - Dad, I got it. - Go. Save Lana. (dramatic music) # # - How predictable. I knew you'd come for her. - She doesn't want this, Jonathan. - I think you and I both know part of her does. - I'm not gonna let you harm her. - I was counting on that. # # - (groaning) # # (struggling breaths) Wait, wait. You don't have to do this. - It's okay. It'll all be over soon. - (gasps) - (gasps) - Tell my Lana I'll be back soon. - (gasping) - All right. I think that should do it. - Dad, what's happening? - We have to go, now. - Mrs. Cushing? - Not Mrs. Cushing. (JAUNTY MUSIC) Collect Le Creuset kitchenware with every three orders. Collect all three, only with My Food Bag. - (speaking backwards) - She's here for Lana. Go outside and yell for Superman. - No, Dad, I-- - Just go. I'll hold her off as long as I can. Just go! (gasping) (dramatic music) # # - (groans) He's coming. (gasping) - Jordan. - I'm the only one who can stop him. (dramatic music) # # - Your dad's not coming to stop me this time. - Oh, my God. - (gasping) - Superman? - You have to get all the kryptonite out. - Okay. Okay. Okay. - As fast as you can. - Okay, okay. - (wincing) (tense music) # # - (speaking backwards) - You're not going anywhere. Oh, crap. - Jon, stop it! - Keep screaming. Let him know that he failed his son just like my father failed me. - Clark! (echoing) Clark! - Hurry, hurry. - (speaking backwards) (groans) - Dad. - Hey, baby. (gasps) (chain snaps) Stay right here. I'll be right back. (heartbeat thumping) - Who's the weak one now? - (grunts) - (panicked breathing) (groans) - Are you okay? - Yeah. - Not for long. - This is for my brother. - (groans) (triumphant music) # # - Thanks for all your help today. - Oh, it was nothing. You're the one that actually stopped him. - Don't sell yourself short. This is the second time you've helped me save lives now. - Do you think that Jonathan's gonna be okay? - That wasn't the Jonathan Kent that you know. The one you saw today, he's-- he's from a different world entirely. - What do you mean? Like, your world? - Something like that. - Wow, that's terrifying, but also a huge relief. 'Cause I didn't know how I was gonna face Lois and Clark after all of this. - I'll fill Lois in on everything. - So I shouldn't tell anyone. - I can't ask you to lie for me. - Yeah but it's not for you. It's for the Kents. I mean, if this story were to get out, they would have to deal with the fallout. - I'm pretty sure the Lois Lane that I know, she can handle it. - It's not Lois I'm worried about. (gentle music) # # - You're a good friend, Lana. - Do you maybe want to come in? - I, um-- I should probably get going and I think your family's probably worried about you. - Oh, my God, Sarah. She must be freaking out. I have to go call her. - It's okay, it's okay. Go. - (chuckles softly) # # - Goodbye, Lana. - Guess we learned our lesson. No leaving the house without the hammer. - (scoffs) You know, here I am promising to keep you safe. You're the one who rescued me. - We take care of each other. - I'm your father. It's my job to keep you safe. - Dad, I'm not a little girl anymore. This is serious. Crazy Lana isn't the only person that's gonna come out of that portal. - Unless there isn't a portal to come out of. - What are you saying? - I need to make a call. - Wait, can we talk about this first? - You've done enough for one day, okay? - Dad, I can help. - Just trust me. I got this. - Hedy. - Yes, Frau Irons. - Very funny. Bring up the changes to the Pasiphae Project. - We still need an energy source. - I might have a solve for that. - So where's Dad taking him? - Your grandfather's handling all that. - So he's going to one of those black sites where they're holding Tal-Rho. - There's nothing to worry about. - Until Ally shows up. - We will deal with that when the time comes. But for now... You were right about the letter. I'm sorry. - Read it. - Jordan. - No, it's her idea. I want to hear what she thinks. - You were gonna tell Sarah your secret and you knew about this? Why does everything have to be an act of defiance with you two? Don't you get that we are on your side? - Do you not get that we're on yours? - Yeah, of course. It just... Feels like we keep drifting apart as a family. - Maybe we're not that close to begin with. (door opens, shuts) - What? - It's nothing. - Mrs. Cushing okay? - I just took her home. She gonna be fine. - Yeah, except now she thinks I'm a kidnapping psychopath. - Actually, I was able to explain how that wasn't really you. - Wait, you told her? - As Superman. Lana still doesn't know who I am. - Great, so your secret's still safe. - It is. But... You know, maybe it shouldn't be. Look, Jon Henry and Nat may have sent Lana's doppelganger back through the portal, but as long as she's still working with Ally, our Lana might not be safe. - What are you saying? - I came back here first because we're a family and... this decision would affect all of us. So... If you're all okay with it-- - Absolutely. - Yes. - Go. - Oh. Um, okay then. Uh, wish me luck. (soft music) # # - Honey, I'm on my way to the office right now. - Mom, I'm still kinda freaked out about it all. - I know and I'm really sorry. - But I still don't get it. What happened? - Like I said, I just needed some air and somehow, the day got away from me. - Mom, that doesn't really... - Honey, I need to go. - Hello? (sighs) - Clark. What are you doing here? - I, um-- I need to talk to you. - This really isn't a good time. - Lana, there's... There's something I've... (sighs) Something I've wanted to tell you my entire life. - How did you even know I was gonna be here? Oh, you know what? It doesn't even matter. - Lana... - Clark, listen, I do want to hear what you have to say, but I have had the longest day. You've no idea what I've been through. - Yeah, yeah, but I do, though, actually. - What? - I was there. Lana, I--I-- I was with you. - What are you talking about? (soft resonant music) # # - (sighs) # # My God. # # (thunder rolling) (ice crystals chiming softly) You're Superman. # # Captions were made with the support of NZ On Air. www.able.co.nz Able 2022
