Minister of Finance Hon Grant Robertson delivered the Wellbeing Budget 2023 on Thursday 18 May. The Budget process allows the Government to develop priorities and targets for spending, revenue, surplus, debt repayment and investment for the coming year. These strategic priorities and targets are published in a pre-Budget document: the Budget Policy Statement, which is presented to Parliament and examined by the Finance and Expenditure Committee. The Minister of Finance indicated that the 2023 Budget would have these themes: Supporting New Zealanders with the cost of living, delivering the services New Zealanders rely on, recovery and resilience, and fiscal sustainability.
